I've needed to find a new hair place for over 6 months. My hair stylist left the area and I've tried a new place every 3-4 months with mixed results. I think I have found my new salon! I LOVE my hair. I spoke and my stylist listened. He actually channeled my inner desires without my articulating them. I admit to wanting someone who KNOWS what to do. If I have to tell you how to cut my hair, I might as well open my own place! Zed KNOWS what to do. The color is perfect. The cut is carefree...meaning I don't have to do anything but roll out of bed and into the shower. The true test is to come home from the salon and take a shower. Can I make it look as good as it did 15 minutes ago? Absolutely. Wash..Shake...Let dry. It still looked good. I am very disappointed with my haircut yesterday. I waited for about 10 minutes at the shampoo bowl before anyone even talked to me. After the shampoo, I sat for another 15 minutes in the chair before the stylist came. She was in the middle of a color job on another client and rushed the haircut. She did not blow it all the way dry or even show me the back. I have never had such a rush job at a "professional" and expensive salon. The cut is not even and not straight in the back. The whole experience was nerve wracking, rushed, and not at all relaxing. Definitely not a good salon experience and not worth the price! read more

This review is for Wilma. I moved to the area in 2000 and it took me a while to find someone that gave a great manicure. I had tried several other places before I found her and even drove back to Baltimore on a few occasions to go to my old salon. The first time I sat down with Wilma I felt completely at ease. I've never had a bad experience and if I happen to break or chip a nail, all I have to do is call her and she will take time out of her day to fix it for me. I went to Jon David for the first time yesterday for a haircut and partial highlights. This was by far the best experience I have ever had getting my hair done! The receptionists were really nice and greeted me as soon as I walked through the door which I really appreciated. On top of that, I barely had to wait. My stylist was Katy. She was awesome! If you're like me and hate getting your hair highlighted because it takes forever, then go with Katy. She is so efficient and spent half the time it usually takes to apply the highlights. She talked me through everything and made sure to get my approval for various things that she wanted to do to my hair. In the end, I got the best highlights I have ever had and a really cute haircut. As a client of Jon David's for nearly two years now, this review is incredibly overdue but I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this salon. I am sure many can empathize with how difficult it is to find a salon that caters to you and Jon David quickly became my favorite salon ever since my first appointment. Further evidence of their superb service is evident if you just make a Saturday appointment; you will be amazed at how busy the salon can be and the level of service provided by the wonderful staff. My hair color has constantly changed over the past 14 years-from blonde to black to tones of red and burgundy....to even pink. You name it, I had it, but there was always something that I felt was "off" about my hair after it was done. Whether it be the color fades to a shade that I don't like or the cut is not flattering, it has taken me a long time to be happy with my hair. At my first appointment with David, I explained what look I wanted and he was very constructive with his opinions on how I can achieve that look. The first thing I immediately appreciated about David was that he was not going to *rush* my hair (I wanted to dye my naturally dark brown/black hair several shades lighter) but that he wanted to take a systematic, step by step approach to getting to my goal color. He introduced me to the ombre style which I fell in love with right away. It was flattering and it lightened my hair enough to fit Spring/Summer. Also, I have to add that David taking this "step" approach to hair color also made it a breeze when I wanted to darken my hair 6 months later!! I personally had little to no color fading/changes between trips to the salon and I cannot begin to express how amazing that is. You truly get your money's worth at this salon! What I appreciate most about going to Jon David however is that whoever your stylist is, they will be the one to work on your hair. I know it sounds like such a small issue, but I have been to other salons where you make an appointment with one stylist, but someone else entirely does your hair until it is time for the actual haircut which happens to be the only time you actually *see* your stylist. This is not the case with Jon David. My appointments are always with David and he is the one who looks at my hair, oversees and handles the actual coloring of my hair in addition to cutting and styling my hair. Of course, depending on how busy it is at the salon, David will have someone help out (ie: getting colors mixed and blowdrying/shampoo), but for the most part, he is the one that works on my hair. I have so many wonderful things to say about this salon. The entire staff is wonderful and very courteous. The shampoo girls are always a joy to talk to and when it comes to blowdrying/styling-Susan does a fantastic job giving that "voluminous glam" look. I can keep going on about how wonderful this salon is but this is already a lengthy review! I regularly recommend this salon to all of my friends and family. Although my regular stylist is David, I have seen the other stylists' work and I have yet to see a dissatisfied client leave the salon. Jon David salon aims for perfection and from all the compliments I receive on my hair, even 5 months after my last appointment, I believe it will be very difficult to find another salon in the NoVA area that can yield comparable results :D read more

Love the salon and the shampoo girls are amazing! I would add that the only frustration I experience is always being put on hold for extended periods. I have to call to book appts for both myself and my husband and I've been placed on hold regularly for up to 20 min. They need to hire someone dedicated to the phones and appointments. It's too busy a place to do anything else and it wastes people's time. read more

My concern with John David Salon is that as a customer I have been placed on hold for an extended period of time every time I have called. It is difficult to call and make an appointment since you are immediately placed on hold. If this was not the case I would highly recommend the salon. My friend recommended the Jon David Salon to me. I decided to check it out the other day and I have nothing but good things to say about it from the minute I walked in to the minute I left. I walked into the salon and was greeted immediately. The staff is so nice! The owner also took the time to greet me. I'm pretty sure he took the time to greet all customers at one point or another. The first time I went to Jon David, i was so impressed with Christian. He was thourough, gave me a great trim and a FANTASTIC blowout and I knew I would be back. Unfortunately, on my return visit, I asked for more layers to be cut into my hair, and when given this more demanding cut, Christian was not up to the challenge. The layers were not blended, and at the very end, he asked which side I parted my hair on and them cut a good two inches off the layers around the right side of my face. He was able to mask the horrible cut with another amazing blowout, but once I got home I realized the damage that had been done. I will not be returning to Christian for anything other than a blowout from now on! Buyer beware... read more

I found Jon David salon by Googling top rated Salons in the Springfield/Alexandria area. I booked an appointment requesting one of their top color specialists/stylists. My appointment was made with Sarah and she has been able to perfect the exact hair styles I have desired since day 1. Over the course of two years, she has been able to exceed my expectations to give me the dramatic hair styles and dramatic color changes I have wanted. My natural hair color is a dark brown. I wanted a vibrant cherry red and she mixed the perfect color. The color was absolutely stunning. About 9 months later, I wanted to go from this cherry red to a light golden blonde. She did it in one appointment and it turned out gorgeous. Not only is Sarah very talented and friendly, the entire staff is as well. David, the owner, is also very friendly and has created a great salon. The salon itself is very beautiful and modern looking. Very happy with the service every time. read more

i had a good experience. i got my hair cut, my brassy highlights toned, and added face framing highlights. after toning my hair once i thought it was too light.. so my hair stylist happily toned it a second time. i was happy with the result but as i was leaving, the salon owner noticed "lines" in my hair, and told my stylist to fix it so the highlights blend better. she did so with no complaints.. and it only took a few extra minutes. i really appreciated the owner doing that.. it shows that they actually care about their work. i paid less than what i was expecting, pricing is reasonable. salon has a clean modern vibe. will be returning for my hair cut/coloring needs. read more

So happy to have found this place & even better that it's close to my house! Staff is very professional & listens to what you want. It's probably a little on the pricey side, but in my experience with salons you definitely get what you pay for. I have tried everything from Hair Cuttery to Bubbles to some swanky Dupont Circle places and have found it's worth the splurge on my hair which is an accessory I wear every day :) I've had decent cuts from the cheaper places but if the overall experience is important to you, Jon David is great. A trip to the salon is a "treat" for me and I like to feel relaxed while I'm there and confident that I'm in good hands. That's exactly how I felt on my last visit a few days ago. Agree with other posters that tipping can be stress-inducing with so many people "working" on you at some point, but I just ask my stylist to make sure the other folks get taken care of and feel confident she does so. read more

I have been searching and searching for a salon in the northern VA area for so long and I've finally found the one! I went in a few months ago for a hair cut and had Tina who did a wonderful job. I've been dying to add highlights to my hair for a while now and was waiting for my wedding to be over in case I ended up hating it. I ended up making an appointment with Omidah because I've never dyed my hair before and I was nervous so I wanted to have someone who was on their expert or advanced level. I ended up waiting 30 minutes for my appointment to start because she was running behind with another client. But, once it started she was great. I wanted to do an ombre look and she did such a fantastic job! The appointment ran over but she still took her time with styling and making sure I was happy. I was worried the color was going to be too light but once I saw the end result it was perfect. The salon is definitely a little more expensive than what I usually pay, but it's 100% worth it. read more

I moved to the area from California a year and a half ago and had trouble finding a salon and stylist that could get my bob hairstyle just the way I like it. I admit, my hair is a bit of a challenge, and I am extremely particular. The first 2 salons I went to did not even come close to what I was looking for. I wanted something stylish and hip, and after leaving both salons I left looking like my new cut aged me. I just about gave up on finding the quality of service and satisfaction that I had for years in California, then I tried my luck with Jon David Salon. I was given an appointment with Mike, and was impressed with his work from the very first visit. He definitely knows what he is doing, especially when it comes to texturizing, which is crucial to keeping a bob cut looking great weeks after leaving the salon. If stylists are judged based on the amount of compliments that their customers receive, then Mike deserves 5 stars. read more

Finding someone who you can trust with your precious hair is such a drag. A lot of times, the person has their own vision for what looks best on you, or just misses the mark completely. I had never been to the Jon David Salon before, but I'm so happy I did! I went in for a cut and with very particular boundaries for what color/highlights/balayage i wanted. CAROLINE IS AMAZING. Not only is the staff at this salon so friendly and warm, Caroline is just a beautiful human. Having to sit in a salon chair for 5 hours is super annoying if you don't like the person, but Caroline is kind, understanding, and laid-back. She is so respectful and honoring of your hairstyle wants, while also keeping it 100% real about your hair's natural abilities. Her color came out BEAUTIFULLY and I get compliments on my hair all the time. With Asian hair, getting it lightened up is VERY risky, but she gave me beautiful light ashy brown and ashy blonde highlights that look incredible.
