Their website says the haircut includes "styling" and this is the first time I've ever left a salon with wet hair that I immediately wanted to put up in a bun when I got home. As a new customer, it seems like they could've at least mentioned when I was setting up the appointment that I needed to ask for a blow dry. I'm happy with the color she chose for my roots, but leaving the salon with unfinished hair left me not wanting to come back.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I deliberately waited several days before writing this review…read morebecause I wanted to cool down, get used to the haircut, and try styling it several different ways before deciding how I felt. Unfortunately, I am just as upset now as I was when I left. I had been growing my hair for FOUR YEARS, and I could not have been clearer with Jack about what I wanted. I showed him multiple photos, explained exactly what I liked about them, and repeatedly told him that preserving my length was extremely important to me. Looking back, the first red flag should have been that he barely looked at my reference photos for more than a couple of seconds before saying, essentially, "Yeah, yeah, I know what you want." Apparently, he did not. I asked for long layers and a few soft, face-framing pieces while keeping my length. Instead, Jack proceeded to cut and cut and cut. I repeatedly expressed concern about how much hair he was taking off, and each time he reassured me, "These are just layers. I'm not touching your length." Technically, I suppose he can claim that he "kept the length" because he left one thin, long section at the very bottom. But the overwhelming majority of my hair is now significantly shorter. From the back, the remaining length comes down into a thin V. From the front, instead of the subtle face-framing pieces I specifically requested, the bulk of my hair looks almost like a bob with a few long pieces hanging underneath it. That is not what I asked for. It is not remotely what the reference photos showed. What bothered me almost as much as the haircut itself was that he could clearly tell I was unhappy, yet instead of acknowledging that the cut was dramatically different from what I had requested, he kept reassuring me about how "healthy" and "sexy" it looked and insisting that he had kept my length. Whether he thought the haircut looked good was completely beside the point. It wasn't the haircut I asked for. I am extremely nonconfrontational, so unfortunately I didn't advocate for myself as strongly as I wish I had in the chair. I paid, even tipped him, went home, and cried. When my husband and friend saw my hair, their immediate reactions were essentially, "Oh my God, what did he do?" But perhaps the most unbelievable moment came near the end of the haircut, when Jack asked me whether I wear my hair straight very often. He then told me that the haircut he was giving me wouldn't look as good blown out and was better suited to wearing my hair naturally. Excuse me? That is a conversation you have with a client BEFORE you cut off years of hair growth, not when you're almost finished. If a haircut is going to limit how I can wear my hair, I should be told that beforehand so I can decide whether I want that haircut. To make matters worse, after this happened I spoke to a friend who told me she had gone to Jack last year and had a remarkably similar experience--she felt that he kept trying to take her hair much shorter than she wanted as well. A stylist can absolutely have professional opinions and make recommendations. But ultimately, it is the client's hair. If someone repeatedly tells you that keeping their length is their highest priority and brings photographs showing exactly what they want, you don't get to disregard that because you personally think another haircut would look better. I went in expecting a trim, long layers, and subtle face framing. I walked out having lost years of growth and with a haircut I specifically did not ask for. I genuinely think I would have been better off giving myself a trim with kitchen scissors. Now I get to spend the next several years growing my hair back to where it was. Needless to say, I will never return, and I absolutely would not recommend Jack--especially to anyone with long hair who is particular about preserving their length.

And I'm mortified I have to leave home with this miserable attempt of a haircut. Honestly, how do hairdressers keep their licenses when they do work like this? I called the salon and expressed my tearful frustration, ask to have someone else to fix my hair or refund my money. Well, customer service isn't one of their long suits either. I'm a 74 year-old disabled woman who's just moved across country. The best that the salon could offer is for me to come in at 7:15 Saturday morning or wait until Monday, the day of my move. No, they can't refund the debit card I used to pay $100 ($75 haircut & $25 tip). If I want my money back, I have to drive back over to their salon and retrieve my refund. I have to pay a barber to fix my hair because salon no longer know how to cut hair. Instead, I will be filing a complaint with my bank.

Love this salon .David the owner does a beautiful job on my hair,like a artist. The assistants shampoo your hair and give such a wonderful scalp massage I could stay there for days. The atmosphere is very relaxing and professional. Unlike other salons the stylists focus on you and not everyone and everything around you. That is a huge plus for me. The website and appointment making is a great advantage over other salons. I think I've had everyone do my hair but David,katy,and Laurie are my favorites. I love their personalities and the fact that they spend so much attention to me. The only downfall of this salon is the price. They are high for the area and for that reason I do go to another salon a lot to get me by I always end up back here when I can splurge on myself.the salon is very clean and modern. Staff is professional and friendly. No typical salon gossip or craziness. Tipping is allowed on credit cards and checks. The stylist continue their education through shows and classes and it shows. The staff is like a big happy team that work well together with no drama like I've seen in other salons that I visit. they are a extremely busy salon but you dont sit in a chair with a dripping wet head like other salons waiting on your stylist to get to you. the stylists never rush on you and will take time to consulate before and after with you.highly recommend this salon. Love, love, love this salon. I have been going here for a couple of years now, intermittedly I admit because it is a little expensive, but every time I do take the plunge I am overjoyed. I recently had my hair highlighted with ombre highlights, which I was slightly nervous about, but I could not be happier. I brought my stylist, Suha, a picture of Lily Aldridge and I think I like the style she gave me even better than the picture. It is definitely the most drastic change I have made to my hair ever, but I love it. Suha did a fantastic job. I also must note how professional and easy-going she is. She listens to what you want and tries to improve on your ideas. She is not pushy though, and will always try to give you the style you want. My ombre highlights took a lot longer than I anticipated, and when I first arrived I asked if she could teach me to style my hair a specific way. After all the time she spent on the color I felt a little guilty that she still did it, because I knew she had to leave. However, she was still pleasant and patient and styled my hair beautifully. I am so late in putting up this amazing review for Caroline. She has been my daughter's colorist and hairstylist for almost 2 years. My daughter wanted her hair an all over blue, her hair is originally dark, so Caroline not only agreed to do this, but detailed step by step the whole process and scheduled her for all the time she needed to complete her hair. Her hair was bleached blonde then colored to the most beautiful blue I've ever seen on hair. She was always very conscientious about keeping the integrity and health of her hair, which after months of her hair growing back, is beautiful and incredibly healthy. We have been back to have her hair colored again and AGAIN, her hair came out beautifully. Her hair - even growing out from her haircut - is still absolutely amazing. We are always happy with her hair. Caroline has even cut my hair and fixed another hairstylist from another salon's mistakes, which I was incredibly happy about. Cannot begin to explain how GREAT my experience was Jon David Salon. Everyone was so friendly and Neetu was AMAZING! We are military and recently moved here and having to find a good hair stylist is always so scary. I was at a neighboring salon the day before and asked for very subtle and light highlights and to please make it look very natural because I was having engagement pictures done this coming week . I was charged 210.00 and my hair looked like I was back in 2004 with extremely blond chunky highlight sporadically in my hair. I was so disappointed and was going to get charged to touch it up. Lucky I called Jon David explained my situation and the FABULOUS receptionist got me in the next day and said she knew exactly who to set me up with . Neetu worked a miracle on my hair and it's better than I have ever had it! I LOVE IT and cannot wait to go back to have her cut it! I HIGHLY recommend this salon read more

I made an appointment for Sunday June 7 at 5:15pm. When I called on Friday, I was VERY clear that I ONLY wanted a hair cut. I would wash at home as I wanted to be inside for the very minimum. I was told no, we'll wash it here. Again, NO. I just wanted a simple haircut. So, I arrived at 5:05 and called from the parking lot. After being put on hold for 3 full minutes, I was told "we're so sorry, but the stylist is running 15-20 minutes behind. Do you mind waiting?" I inquired about who the stylist would be as I didn't need a "master" - I just wanted a simple basic haircut. Nope. I was assigned a master stylist, and the cost would be $64. That's on top of waiting outside for an EXTRA 20 minutes. Add on 20% - so $75 and inconvenience. If JD cannot be respectful of my time or what I requested, then I'm not interested in having my hair done there. I canceled the appointment and left. read more

Caroline is the most wonderful person that I have ever allowed to touch my hair! I had undergone an absolutely horrible and destructive assault on my hair at another salon. Caroline was so sweet and compassionate and fit me into her schedule quickly! When my appointment came she worked magic and gave me exactly what I wanted. I have never left a salon so happy...except for the next 4 times that I've been to see her! If you are in need of an excellent color and cut by a very talented and sweet stylist, Caroline is the person for you! Chose to get my hair cut and colored by their "best" and most experienced colorist. Really paid for this choice too. Way way way over paid. Color was badly done, with visible roots showing (which she tried to hide as she styled my hair at the end). Cut was even worse. Choppy, rushed.. Terrible. Never went back. Surprised since this place has so many good ratings... Was not pleased with my cut and color, and more importantly how the stylist tried to hide her rushed mishaps upon styling, then charging me an arm and a leg. Go at your own risk. Ps. I ended up paying upward of $300 plus for a cut plus highlights much to my horror. read more

Yesterday, I tried out the new Arlington location of Jon David Salon. It was late in the afternoon, so it was fairly low key...although all of the stylists on duty were with clients. The overall feel of the salon is very modern and trendy. I got a haircut and deep condition and was extremely satisfied. The shampoo may have been the best I've ever had, and the conversation with my stylist Rania was great. Overall, it was a great experience, and I will definitely be going back. Omida is an absolute miracle-worker who took my damaged dark brown hair that had a stubborn red tone to it and took me to a beautiful, healthy blonde in one appointment. Loved the salon! I had had a much too short layered cut at a DIFFERENT (close by) salon. I search the Internet for reviews, read dozens, and found an archived "Best of" from NoVA magazine about Jon David. I called on a Sunday hoping for an appointment during the week and was pleasantly surprised to get one for that afternoon. I was greeted warmly, had a consultation with Neeta (sweet), and was HEARD! I just had my first visit at this salon and can honestly say I AM THRILLED with the final outcome. David was extremely easy to talk with and clearly understood what I wanted. I had David as my stylist! What an amazing experience! I've got some religious restrictions regarding my cut hair and he was so sensitive and cooperative. In addition, he did the most amazing transformation from super long hair to ultra short!! I definitely will go back as often as I can to have him "maintain" my mane! One word: Amazing! I am new to the area and a friend recommended this salon. I have very fine hair and have had some horrible experiences in the past, and was worried about finding someone in the area to cut and highlight my hair. After several months without seeing a professional stylist for cut and color my roots had grown out several inches and I looked shaggy, so remembering my "poor" early twenties I purchased a box hair color. One of the best hair salons I've been to in the DMV region, deserves 5 stars for sure! This salon is filled with a ton of amazing stylists who care , give good advice, and create beautiful hairstyles. I've been going here since 2007 and it's one of the few hair salons that I trust to get my haircut at. I highly recommend either David, Irina, or Ellie T for women's haircut. Caroline is absolutely amazing!! She has been the only person I have let touch my hair since the first time she did it (4 years ago). I have gone from dark brown hair to super blonde, then to red and blonde, and most recently she even added some violet in my hair. Her color is flawless and the cut never disappoints. I love Mike at this salon. My hair is very curly and he cuts it perfectly. Plus, he is a master with my color. I love how he mixes different shades. I go to Jon David to see Caroline, who's been doing my pixie growout cuts and some color. I went in yesterday to get Ombre (red to copper), and as a natural red, I knew that presented a challenge. Paul is an expert stylist who knows exactly what to do to make your hair look its best! Oh, and he's very nice too! His salon has been here for a long time. I always want to give someone the benefit of the doubt and hate giving poor reviews. With that being said, I don't think this is the place to take your child if you have long hair. My child has shaggy surfer hair and just needed a clean up. The lady was so nice and so pleasant but the cut just wasn't the best. He emerged with a poof ball of hair.
