I've been working with John's since they installed my ac unit 6-7yrs ago. I signed up for and renewed their service plan and they've been great about reminding me when it's due rather than soaking up the money and not doing the work. Today Damian came out around 830 for my 6month service and noticed a leak and that my unit wasn't working as well as it should. This poor man went over every inch of my system for 8hrs and even checked my attic to make sure a duct didn't pop off. He was on my roof in the June Phoenix heat until 4. Even had his supervisor come out when he needed help. This is the kind of tech I hope shows every time. I'd rather have someone that will ask for help rather than close it up and say it's good. 3/20/26* Update. Please read my updated review as well as the most recent yelp reviews within the last 12 months regarding John's Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing. Years and years ago this was a good company to use for HVAC maintenance. The HVAC Manager Brian was our original tech before being elevated to the HVAC manager. Once that happened we had no complaints for many years. Then things took a turn last summer 2025. Mind you we diligently pay into their monthly maintenance program. In June of 2025 we had our regular scheduled maintenance service with a new technician named "Carlos". Carlos came b/c our previous technician was no longer with the company. Which is fine b/c Brian is the HVAC manager has been for awhile now and our thinking was techs are trained properly. Carlos does his what I thought to be a "good" service and didnt think nothing of it. Then 3 days later my top drop drain (the one YOU dont want dripping l" was running like a faucet was on. Mind you I was floored b/c we just had "Carlos" out to "service our home". When I tell you what ensued over the next two weeks with what happened. Not only did "Carlos' break my HVAC pan and was not honest and only reason I found out was b/c it took me calling and getting angry that my drain thats not supposed be dripping was dripping after not once but twice Carlos being at my home doing a "service call". Yes, I was absolutely angry to come to fins out that "Carlos" tried to repair the pan with a silver tape (a pan that holds water) with repair tape. It was when I demanded that Brian (who said he needed to send Carlos back to my home to fix the issue) send a new person to my home to find out why it has been running each and every time Carlos had been to my home. At that point when Brian sent to of his other technicians to my home and told me what had happened to my HVAC as well as replacing the pan doing the right thing. I was mind boggled why I had to have a conversation as angry as I was with Brian to send another technician out. I was very angry. Only solace was Brian said he would replace the broken property of the HVAC and send another tech! Then heres the shocker, I never heard from Brian to follow up knowing I have been a customer for 14 years!!! To see how things went, no apologies. I chalked it up to hes a manager now hes busy, is whole demeanor has changed since being a manager to just that! Presently I noticed I had not heard from Johns for my regular service call and when I called to get scheduled at 947am this morning to be told your service agreement has been cancelled. I said why? Nice girl said Brian cancelled it. I said why, she said let me find out. It is 300p I called back b/c I had not heard and the nice lady said Brian said we wont be serving your home any longer! Wow, is all I could say! Sometimes when people are promoted and power is what they move by its not a good thing. Unfortunately thats what happened here. I am a home owner and I have every right to deny a vendor to send a tech who damages my property and furthermore if said vendor chooses not to follow up and give me a courtesy call after 14 years b/c you have the power as the manager to get mad that you have to replace property that was broken by your employee on your watch but not let me the customer know. We have been customers of John's Heating, Cooling and Plumbing for 6 years. They serviced our old house in Cottonwood from 2020 through 2022 and now our next and current home in Palo Verde from 2022 to date. I have always been VERY HAPPY with the service we have received from them in the past. Well, that is until now. We called them on August 10th for service because one of the units was not cooling. When the service tech was there he said we had a clogged drain line. We told him to fix it. He asked if we wanted the second unit drain cleaned as well and we agreed. He also cleaned the evaporator coil on one unit. He was at the house a total of two hours and our bill was $973.00, Invoice attached. Now, if the service tech would have been at the house for 6 hours or even four hours, I would have had no issue whatsoever. BUT, TWO hours? That is $500.00 and hour! My corporate attorney doesn't make that! So I called on Tuesday to express my concerns and the receptionist said she would have Eisen, the service manager call me. Never heard from him. I called back on Friday and he once again was not available but he would call me. Never heard from him. So I called back the following Wednesday and finally got to talk with him. He said that's what they charge and he wouldn't be willing to do anything to make me happy for the outrageous invoice. Not a good experience with John's Plumbing & Heating. They came out to my house on November 6 to look at my water softener. They were in and out in about ten minutes and told me I needed a new head almost $1,300. Something didn't sit right with me, so I called Steadfast Plumbing for a second opinion. They came out fast, did a real check, replaced one small part, and charged me $277. That's it. This is what gets me too many companies jump straight to the big-ticket fix without even troubleshooting. If I didn't know better, I'd be out over a grand for nothing. Requested service for AC unit. Company did not show during scheduled window. When I called for an update on the ETA, I was told that a tech was on their way. Then a half hour later, John's called back to say no tech was on their way, the price would be higher and that the information on their website was not correct. If you have an urgent AC repair, I would not trust this company. In my case, because of their games, I had an unnecessary delay in getting my AC unit repaired, because I trusted they were going to show up as they had promised. I ended up going with a more reliable company to complete the repair. read more

I had John's replace my 11 year old AC unit when it failed in the summer of 2024. Overall, the installation went well and the unit has worked fine. When I was evaluating the different units I could purchase, I decided on the more expensive, variable speed AC unit because Mike Rowland, my sales guy, told me the unit was eligible for a $2000 tax credit when I filed my 2024 taxes. I took this on faith, assuming John's knew what they were talking about. There was no ambiguity such as "up to $2000", or "could be eligible for a $2000 tax credit". It was cut and dried - a $2000 tax credit. As I was preparing my taxes in April 2025 and read the tax docs (Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit - https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/energy-efficient-home-improvement-credit), I discovered this was not the case. There was a $2000 credit for certain things (heat pumps, water heaters, etc), but only a $600 tax credit for eligible air conditioner units. I called Mike and asked him about this in April 2025. His tune completely changed. He lied, saying he never guaranteed any tax amount, that from what he's read online the tax credit is 'up to $600', and that I would 'have to talk to my tax advisor', as if I was inappropriately asking him for tax guidance. When I called John's main office and asked to talk to Mike's manager, I was sent to the service manager, Brian Luck. Brian offered help and information about my unit and related tax information, but it was not helpful because I already had that information. I asked him if John's trains their salespeople centrally on things like this, or if they leave it up to each salesperson. He told me they train their salespeople centrally, and they always teach them to say "up to" when offering numbers like tax information. I asked Brian three times what happened in his discussion with Mike about this, but he repeatedly deflected (not stating whether or not he talked to Mike about what I've told him) and simply said they train their people to say "up to", etc. I don't know if I caught Mike on a bad day in June 2024, and he got his wires crossed and thought my unit was eligible for the $2000 tax credit, or if he just outright lied from the start to get the sale. But to try to gaslight me after the fact and tell me that's not what he said, and then to imply I'm the one being unreasonable by asking him for tax advice when I should be going to my tax advisor - that is totally unacceptable. If there were any other variables that could account for this, like maybe if the tax credit was dependent on not just the unit but also something about my house, and later we found out something about my house reduced or removed the tax credit, I could understand. But that is not the case. It was completely dependent on the unit, which I trusted John's to be able to tell me. I will NEVER use John's again - for AC, heating, plumbing, or anything else. Set an appointment for drain cleaning based on a coupon I got in the mail that said "$59 Drain Cleaning." When I called, I asked if the $59 was per drain and the phone rep said it was for ALL our drains. I told her we needed 2 bathroom sink drains cleaned and our bathtub drain cleaned. She told me that all three drain would be included in the $59 special offer. When Dustin came for the appointment, I showed him the coupon and he told me that was only for an outside drain and just to clean the bathtub drain would be $150! This would NOT include cleaning the two bathroom sink drains. At that point I asked him and his assistant to leave. When talking to these people, please be aware they use deceptive tactics just to gain entry to your house and then they hit you with the real charge which is WAY more than the offer you get in the mai. We started using their service after they bought a plumbing company that we liked and trusted, but we've come to regret it. Remember: Johns Heating and Cooling advertise that they are a 24/7 repair company. Monday evening around 5 our AC went out. After calling a few places ,John's said they would be able to send someone that night. However, since we are not the home owners, they have to hear from the landlord. Once they do, they will send someone out. Annoying, but okay. We call our landlord, tell him whatsup, gave him their number, he called and no one picked up. He got a answering system or some sort and left all his information and said if you need anything just call me. He let us know that this was done. I called back and the lady, i think her name was Ashley, said that she didnt get a call and would look for the VM. After saying "bare with me" about 15x times and 10-15 mins later, She said she found it and that it was not going to work because he didnt actually say "I give permission". I was annoyed and said "okay well he left you everything you need so go ahead and call him and get the actual information you are needing". She goes "thats not our job, we dont make calls". we went back forth about this. At this point, I am pissed.I explained we had a toddler and a very elderly dog and needed this fixed tonight. After back and forth again, with this Ashley, I finally got our landlord on the call ( 3 way call). She asked him questions and he said "if you listened to the vm, this is all there" (or something very close to this). So he was also annoyed.. and at this point it was almost 930 at night. So she finally got everything she needed and confirmed we are okay with the "after hours charge". Had no idea there was an after hour charge for a 24/7 service, so whatever.. we said okay... btw $150.. freaking wild. she said that the tech would be out right after he is done with this one job. We said okay cool... not even 10 mins later, we get a call from the lady. She stated that the tech said he cant get to our place tonight because this job is taking longer than expected. At this point, I am PISSED.. you are a 24/7 service that does NOT provide this service. She stated that we were be first on the list in the morning, that they should be here aroun 7-8 since she is marking it as an emergency. Annoyed but we said okay. I get a call around 8am the next morning, from some other lady, and she states that she will have a tech out to us between 12-2 or 2-4 (i cant remember now). I said NO, we were told first thing in the morning from the lady we talked to last night because YOUR TECH did not want to come last night after his job. She said well im sorry but thats all we have open. i said i want to talk to a manager. she said she would call us back. After this, we said screw it.. and we called another company who was able to come right away as their 2nd job.. he was in and out of here in 20 mins and he came around 930-10am. I called Johns and i stated we did not want to do business with them and please remove us from the schedule. If you are a service that offers 24/7, you should offer that. Our whole experience with your rep who schedules and i guess the teach who was oncall, was HORRIBLE and it made your company look bad. read more

Had these guys come out to get my AC unit back up and running, The tech was nice and they were able to get out to my house 2 hours after I called in. My unit just had its coil recently replaced and I was thinking a capacitor might have gone out and it would be a simple fix. The tech did identify that the issue came from a copper tube that was leaking refrigerant and said it was going to be very costly to repair even recommending me to consider replacing the entire unit that is only 5 years old. After getting hit with the news I was quoted $2700 to fix the issue if I didn't want to finance a new unit. I paid the $89 call charge and called a second company to get a repair quote. I got it fixed the following day in 30 minutes for $230. Now my AC is working just fine. The techs are probably hourly with commission incentives which is why a new unit is pushed and the repair bill in general was incredibly high. Do your research and protect yourself, find a company you can trust the HVAC industry is very corrupt. read more

I highly recommend Johns. I heard about them through a family recommendation. We ended up getting two brand new AC units when we purchased a home in 2022. Their price was very competitive and they have pearl certification just like the other company we looked at from Costco. They were able to install both units within a week. There were two minor hiccups the first month after install, but they came right out and fixed the problems same day. Very happy with our units, with the service, and with the price! read more

Tech came out with faulty gauges and told me I needed repair a TXV valve and the cost would be $2475. Didn't feel good about the technician's diagnosis and had 2 different companies evaluate. No valve needs and each service call was $50. John's on the other hand wanted $79 and misdiagnosed the problem. Called John's office to discuss pricing and diagnosis and the manager said, " that's our price, take it or leave it". This had scam written all over it!!! First off, I have been a customer for 10 years and had them install a new unit about 5 years ago. I have a service contract with them. Never had a problem until the last 12 months. Today, tech came out for the 6-month routine service. Did the service and tried to upsell me on repairs. One unit did need a new circuit breaker installed. Agreed to replace it as I've noticed it before. Tech replaces it and leaves without checking that cool air is blowing. Had to call back to have him come out again. Tech forgot to put in the fuses. I checked the unit and it was making a strange sound. Ask him about it and he said it was the variable speed motor and it needed to cool down. Still never checked it was blowing cold air. Temp in house has risen from 70 to 83 because the unit doesn't work now. Called customer service 3 times to get someone out to fix the issue. No callback until I was making my 4th attempt to get the unit fixed. Still waiting if they will send someone out tonight as the current on-call tech is the same person who serviced the unit earlier. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY until they begin to provide reliable and trustworthy employees. read more

Definitely not pleased. I've used John's for plumbing ever since they purchased BSJ, and used BSJ before that. We've always loved using them - the cost was reasonable, the technicians were professional, and they always got the work done in a timely fashion. Not this time. Our technician showed up in a dirty, stained shirt looking like he'd either slept in his uniform or I was the last stop of a 12 hour shift - it was 9AM. He took a look under my kitchen sink, let me know that a clamp had busted and the electrical tape that had been plugging a hole was no longer doing it's job - fine, it was probably a DIY job from the previous owners. He also told me he had to use the larger equipment to snake my drain so instead of $83 it would be $300. I'm still not sure why it's a $200+ difference? He then told me my faucet was leaking, and it would be $800 to replace the faucet - just for labor. I had to buy the parts myself. $800 for a half hour job?!?! Yikes! Oh, and he didn't have the clamp he needed so I had to go get that too or he'd have to charge me an astronomical price for that as well. Also he couldn't do it that day because apparently John's can't keep themselves staffed and there were only two plumbers on shift on a Monday so I would have to take another day off or work from home so he could come back on Tuesday when there were more plumbers available. All this to install a clamp and a faucet that would take me 15 minutes to run and get. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because, once you got passed his appearance, the technician was reasonably professional and at least honest. He did manage to get my tub drain unclogged and at least told me what the issues are with my kitchen sink. I honestly don't know what has happened to this company - maybe they changed management? - but the service level has definitely gone down while the cost has gone way, way up. I won't be using them again for plumbing or HVAC. And now, off to Lowe's to get the parts needed to fix my sink myself! read more

A technician from John's Refrigeration came to do scheduled maintenance on my A/C unit today, 12/13/2021. As he was leaving, I said I am sure you are fully vaccinated;he said he was not. I then asked why he wasn't wearing a mask. No response. According to John's they cannot ask an employee if he is vaccinated. The company can send anyone to your home. The technician was careful to wear shoe covers but had no concern for my health. I cancelled my service contract with John's Refrigeration. I am very upset that John's has no customer service; what is more important than making sure your customers are protected from deadly viruses. Look elsewhere for air conditioning repairs or be prepared to spend WAY too much. The prices this company charges are outrageous. My air conditioner broke while I was out of the country and we had to get it fixed quickly for our house sitter. A friend recommended this company and they came right away. The repair required changing out the thermostat ($350) and the fan motor ($740) and cooling down the compressor ($100). I had installed the original thermostat myself and knew the cost for the part was around $100 and it takes about 30 minutes to install it, and the cost was $350 for this repair. Regarding the fan motor, I found later that the cost of the part was less than $200 and it takes no more than an hour to do this repair, and the cost was $740. Regarding cooling down the compressor, this requires a tech to poor cool water on the compressor for 10-20 minutes, and I was charged $100 for this. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to get other estimates and the repair had to be done immediately, so I had no choice but to pay these prices. When I objected to the pricing, the tech Ivan said over and over again that these prices are "very competitive" and I would pay that anywhere. When I asked for the costs of parts and labor, he refused to tell me. He offered a $50 coupon at the end of all of this, as if it would make up for the extreme price gouging that this company does to its customers. At the end of the day, I was charged $1000+ for a few hours of work by one tech. If you think that is fair, then disregard this review, but I would recommend starting your repair search anywhere else. read more

This was the first AC company that actually took the time to diagnose and really fix our home's cooling problems -- which involved plumbing a new return, and wasn't cheap, but which actually fixed the problem and has kept us from overloading our replacement unit. Other companies just recommended ever-more-oversized units, probably because that's a better profit and easier than sending techs into the attic. John's does it right, and aren't afraid to give bad news but they give actual solutions! read more

He spent over an hour checking out the entire house and gave us a list of items that required following up, in order of priority. My husband went over each line item with Ivan and was satisfied - and he is not easily satisfied. Cameron diagnosed a pre-failure condition on a part and had the part delivered and installed before he ever left! John's Refrigeration installed my rooftop Trane unit and a wall-mounted Daikin mini-split in 2015. Best choices ever! John's shows up when they say they will and if a scheduling conflict arises they ASK if you can reschedule. I'm always accommodating because THEY are so accommodating. I've called at 1am in the summer w/AC not working and someone was at my house and up on the roof by 2a. No joke! Updated: On their own, John's called me to follow up. I explained my unhappiness, and that I would not be back. They decided to cover the part under warranty, and sent me a refund check for $313, leaving the bill at $230ish. Turns out they had replaced exactly that part on a previous service call. This refund satisfies me, although does not delight me. I feel this should have been the result in the first place. Customer for years, but not thrilled with the pricing... Been using John's for years, but have noticed that the pricing has gotten outrageous the last couple of calls. Ivan came to our house today, nice enough guy, remembered me from prior calls. Took less than an hour replaced one relay and a portion of the thermostat wire that was exposed to the sun. The bill was $544. I'm pretty fed up and will call someone else the next time we have an issue. Its a shame that John's is now willing to gouge longstanding customers for a little extra profit. read more

Watch out for these guys. Replaced my capacitor for $360 plus service fee. Tried to condemn my entire A/C system and sell me another one. Another friend the same day had same company that tried to sell them another system and just their blower motor went out. I will be getting several estimates for sure. My system is 9 years old. I would love to have that warm fuzzy feeling when a service company comes out for any service repairs in my home. Our experience has been fantastic! Ivan worked with us during Covid-19 restrictions to get our 2 units maintained and running at peak performance. They installed 2 new units a few years ago and our air conditioning bill went from $195 a month to $115 a month. We have been thrilled that we can leave our indoor temp at 79 and be more than comfortable. We are so thrilled we chose John's for our air conditioning needs. I recently called John's because their sticker was on my condenser and My A/C quit blowing cold. I just purchased the home a year ago and figured they may have done the initial install. I called at 8:30pm and to my surprise they picked up. I was delighted to speak to someone and I received a call promptly at 7am the following morning. All was fantastic. The technician called and was running ahead of schedule, and asked if he could come early. When you are without A/C that was music to my ears. The technician diagnosed my problem quickly and thoroughly. He was extremely friendly and professional, used booties over his boots to ensure not to track in any dirt. He showed me about 10 different photos he had taken of various parts of my system. This is where my review takes a turn. He presented me with three invoices ranging from just over $1300 to $350, all included a package with two more "free" inspections. When he got done going over them, I was extremely confused. I saw all this "maintenance" and "upgrades" to my system but it was still unclear what caused the unit to turn off. I finally had to ask, "what caused my unit to stop working?" He said the drain pipe is clogged and it triggered the automatic shut off. When I asked how much to clean that out and get me running again it was going to be $150 which included the package with two more "free inspections" Knowing that I have a nice Trane unit, installed in 2015 I asked for only that to be done. So In summary I appreciate their timely response and the fact they ran ahead of schedule however, I won't use them again as they reminded me of the car mechanic that tries to push services that aren't needed. I immediately lost trust. I'm a mechanically inclined male in my 40's, the toys in my garage would back that up. I was surprised that this sales tactic was used. I would caution customers who don't have a basic understanding of hvac and advise trying another company. Maybe these are standard techniques across the industry but it was my first experience with it. read more

I was immediately scheduled for a maintenance check and given a 2 hour time frame. about 45 minutes into that window, the office called and advised it would be closer to the very end of that time. I really appreciated that effort. Daniel arrived a little late (hey my garage door people had me waiting 6 hours then cancelled, so I was thrilled with this), but sincerely apologized and went right to work. We sat down and he detailed what issues I had with my 10 year old unit. He showed me pictures of each issue and explained why it happens and what was the most important to fix. I'd used John's Refrigeration for years by having my A/C Unit serviced at the start of the season. Each year, they'd recommend I replace my old Carrier System with a newer, more efficient system. Since they seemed honest, I agreed to purchase a new A/C Unit. Against my protests, they insisted that I could save money by purchasing their private label unit instead of one of the big names like Carrier or Trane. The compressor on the system blew after the unit was only 2 years old, and of course, out of warranty. Also, I saw no decrease in my utility bills. Later, they admitted that they were having "lots of problems" with the off-brand they were pushing, but claimed they had no way of knowing the systems were inferior. That's hard to believe, since could have conducted their own testing to insure quality I would NOT recommend anyone use this company. read more
