I've lived in Chandler since 2001. I've had various A/C issues and various contractors. Some clearly are out to sell you a new unit. Others don't seem to have the knowledge and experience to work on modern systems, especially when the diagnosis is over their head. I had True North (Trevor) out to my home for the first time yesterday to diagnose a problem that another contractor wanted me to throw a lot of money at. Trevor is the A/C whisperer/detective. I told him what I had been experiencing - an intermittent cooling problem and he also took extremely detailed measurements at the unit. He solved it like a puzzle, taking various behaviors from the unit and measurements into account to form his conclusions as to the best action to take right now... all using facts and evidence. There was no hard sell. There were no looks of confusion. There was no "rip and replace" approach. Trevor clearly loves what he does and I immediately felt comfortable that he was treating the problem as though it were his own home and A/C unit. This early hot spring season is now nice and cool inside for us. In short - I'm blown away by the level of expertise and service I received yesterday. When he called to say he was on his way, my husband had gotten the system working again, so I asked if he still wanted to come out--just to give us a quote. Axel took the time to talk to us about various options for replacing our 20+ year old system and then sent over an estimate with those options. He also verified my husband's fix and thoughts about the overall issue, all for no charge. I began having a problem with the heating portion of my central A/C. I called True North and got immediate response. Trevor diagnosed the problem and provided solutions. Very quickly, installation technicians arrived, along with Trevor, to open a new intake and repair some problems. The installation pair worked quickly and installed a very nice new 20x20 intake. Later, my wife said she was impressed with how clean and neat they had left the area; no additional cleanup was required. Very rare in our experience. Trevor replaced the parts that were not functioning and made adjustments to get the proper air flow and timing correct. Needed to have AC looked at (making loud noise) and I used them for service. Called on Sunday and was told someone would come out Tuesday morning. Then got a call the next day that something came up and they could come on Friday. I appreciated the communication but not the longer wait. The tech came out and did a diagnostic (separate $97 fee that doesn't go toward fixing), then went and got a part and I paid $388 total for fixing one part and getting my system checked out. He also gave me quotes on a future unit because he suggested replacing it entirely, which I suspected he would do. Overall a good experience with good communication. May consider them in the future if we need a new unit (lowest price was going around $10K). read more

I really wanted to like these guys and paid a premium to have them install a new AC Unit. Unfortunately, I was left with the feeling that I over paid for a job that was mediocre. In all honesty, I would have been better off using a smaller outfit, like an owner operator, or just going with a big box shop like depot. For what they charge, you are expecting top quality work. Our AC wasn't working so we called True North for diagnostics. The technician was professional and did a good job. But, after our AC was working again, he offered to replace some corroded wires and didn't tell us it would be over $275 (the actual wire probably costs well under $50 and it took 20 minutes). We could have done it ourselves if we had known, it was that easy of a replacement. The diagnostic service might be an ok price, but any additional work will be very expensive. read more

I used YELP in order to find the best company to assist with a new HVAC system for my home. I compiled my quotes, looked over customer reviews and chose True North. I am glad that I did my homework and chose them. They quoted a very good price, but this decision required more than that. I needed to know that the experience would end positively. And it did. The guys all knew exactly what they were doing. There was no mess at all, and we were not inconvenienced in any way at all. After they finished, an associate that does drywall work came out and repaired the hole in the wall that they needed to create to access the furnace and coils in my attic. There was never any pressure before, during or after the install. And the crew was incredibly respectful. I'd gladly recommend them to friends, family or clients. read more

I had an issue with our rental property that the AC was not really blowing cool air on one side of the home. Due to person circumstances of our tenant, it was imperative that we get someone out to at least diagnose/fix if they could same day. I called several A/C companies locally and many could not come out the same day even though they advertised emergency services check up etc. True North came out and gave me a time where they would be able to make it with someone in the area. They ended up coming between 5 - 7 PM and Johnny was a great tech. He understood the situation and for a reasonable fee checked and diagnosed the issue. While the fix wasn't going to be simple, simply having the diagnosis gave us a great next step. This company frustrates me so much I don't know where to begin or where their shenanigans end, so I'll keep it brief. The over-the-phone assistance (I think there are two employees?) is okay, but the techs, and anyone else who gets sent out to the field is sloppy and inconsistent (for example, we were first told air purifiers would be $700 each, but were later given an estimate for close to $3,000 for two). When they're not promising to show up at one time and arriving at another (the opposite from what you'd expect, showing up WAY earlier than discussed), they're contradicting each other's work, not being thorough with clients, and barely behaving as the professionals they're supposed to be. In our experience, this has involved vaping coming in through the front door (at an asthmatic's residence), showing up with Beats headphones around their ears, and blowing snot on our front doorstep when there are two very obvious Ring cameras right there; we also had another tech opt to knock on the door of a three-level building when there are two doorbells right in front of him - why? Additionally we've experienced an item in the house being broken with the techs choosing not to say anything but rather replace it with what they thought was so similar we wouldn't notice (we did, because it was so glaringly different, and this also caused them to be gone from the house for some time while they ran to Lowe's and...I'm guessing, to eat?) and a "contractor" that made an absolute war zone in our house and were not even licensed, if you can believe that; they were let go before they would have ever been close to finishing the job after several weeks of disarray. They've had occasional times of transparency and have apologized for their past actions, but I see an overall lack of training on just basic skills, communication, and...I hate to say it...common sense. We're not savages and we're not unreasonable people - if you need to blow your nose, you can use our bathroom; if you need to take a lunch break or you accidentally broke something, just tell us - it's not difficult. The case could be made that they provide products and services slightly less than their big box competitors, but, just like the tired old cliché goes, "you get what you pay for." Oh, and they always leave a mess...always insulation left on the floor for me to clean up. True North, quit allowing your techs to behave like animals in customers' homes - just start with that, please. read more

I've used True North several times now for A/C repairs, HVAC and always receive impeccable service. I will never use anyone else! Mike is driven by integrity, quality workmanship and doing things the right way the first time and that is a very rare commodity these days. We had Mike back out a few weeks ago to change around some A/C cold air return lines that were poorly designed and inefficient. Mike brought another tech with him to help with the heavy workload, they removed the old massive 1960 cold air return ducts from a hallway closet and split them into two returns on opposite ends of the house. As always his work is clean, effective and efficient! I could not recommend True North more, I've recommended them to friends, co-workers, customers of mine and anyone else that needs any HVAC work done. They will always be straight forward with you and never recommend you something that you do not need! We've also used several other contractors for various needs that Mike has recommended to us and they've all been just like him, honest, upfront and high quality workmanship!
