We were really disappointed with this place. They are trying to be a high class restaurant, when they're obviously not. Staff was friendly (once we were sat. Not as much before). They have one vegetarian meal. Which was a salad. The food was just okay. It's not a bad place, just not worth what they're charging. read more

We've eaten there before, and always had a good meal. We were given a $75 gift certificate by friends who knew we liked it, and, somehow forgot about it. We rediscovered it when it was 18 months old, noting that it said it was good only for a year. I called to see if they'd honor it, and was told no, fairly coldly. Gotta clear the books every year. I can't complain, really, as it was our fault for misplacing it. But seventy-five bucks ain't hay. I'm pretty sure if I were the owner of a local restaurant, I'd have, in the name of good customer service, offered some sort of deal, for having collected $75 with no expense in return. One free entre, maybe. Or half the value of the certificate. Something to indicate a desire to retain a customer. Whatever. Just thought I'd mention it. Won't be back, obviously. read more

Amazing hidden Gem! Didn't make happy hour but who cares! Prices are very reasonable for this type of dining. Drinks are nice pours! Crab Cake crazy recipe!!! Amazing fluffy masterpiece!! Pasta meals large enough to easily split. They have Caymus 2015 Cabernet very good price. "Maybe shouldn't have said that". Lisa and Emily behind the bar never missed a beat. Wish I lived closer as we would be regulars. We had the seafood pasta. On a scale of 1-10. It's a 12+. Perfect blend of sauce and seafood. Will defiantly return next time in the area. read more

Came here dinner on a unday night no reservation was made. We were seated promptly and greeted nicely. Server took our orders; Drinks and fluffy crab cake first served , it was great.2 12 oz Steaks for main course and dessert.. was kinda hungry. Waiting was a bit long but acceptable since is so good. I would definitely go back again and words have been spread to my friends and family. I guess we found another good restaurant close. I gave 4 stars coz theres still improvements can be made. This goes to all restaurants. Restaurant business is a hard business, its an endless competition. Over all i was happy with my experience. read more

Ok seriously: this is my wife and my favorite new place! Everything we ordered was delicious! My wife said the seafood linguini is easily the best she has ever had. I had the confetti chicken and it was spot on perfect! Now let's talk appetizers. Can you say "HUGE CRAB CAKES"??!! I'm not usually a fan of crab but these crab cakes were pretty much the best thing I've ever tasted, and they are HUGE! I'd say at least double the size of normal crab cakes. Owner, Christine, is a fantastic person in every sense of the word. She's the kind of person that you feel like you've known for decades even if you just met her. I also love it that she is an active owner who is very proud of her restaurant. She makes sure that everything is prepared to her high standards and that you enjoy every bite. We already made reservations to bring our good friends here next weekend. It gives us a great excuse to go to John's Grill again. We're already looking forward to it! read more

Excellent food, excellent service. We will definitely be back. A new local favorite for us!

Great neighborhood place. Everything we have ordered has been good. Fresh interior really updates the place to match the food quality.

My boyfriend and I came here Saturday to celebrate a belated Valentine's Day dinner. We had reservations for 6:15 and came about an hour earlier for happy hour. The food wasn't bad and our waitress was new but great. What wasn't so great was the disaster customer service we got from the owners when using the yelp voucher, which was supposed to get $30 off our bill when we pay $15. They deducted $24 instead and when questioned, one of the owners (I think John's wife), came over and said that she heard we had questions. She told us curtly that when you deduct the amount due (after tax) on the original bill from the current bill that it's more than $30 off and quickly walks off. Leaving us confused and still with questions. At this point we felt bulldozed. Our waitress comes back noticing we are still confused about why the tax is factored into the $30 deduction. She says she'll talk to John about it since she didn't understand it either. When she goes back to the kitchen we can hear John screaming at her that he's cooking and can't be bothered with this. We can hear her try to explain our confusion and him screaming back at her. At this point we were feeling terrible for our waitress. It's one thing to have really crappy customer service but it's another to disrespect your staff. Our waitress comes back on the verge of tears apologizing. We went ahead and paid the bill. I sincerely hope our waitress found somewhere else to work that doesn't belittle their employees. My boyfriend used to come here often to celebrate his birthdays, but after this very sad and disrespectful display - they won't be getting our money again. I haven't had a worse experience at a restaurant. read more

John's grill is a small restaurant with a nice atmosphere and high quality food. I tried the calamari which I rate a 6/10 but the star of the show was their seafood pasta! Amazing! The cocktails were also great. read more

I was enjoying a decent meal at best when the Co-manager came and started yelling at me because I didn't have enough on my card so I offered to pay the rest in cash and she called me poor I left (in my tesla) and will never eat there again. btw I did pay for the food. read more

Wonderful spot! The food is fantastic, the service stellar, and the drinks on point. Can't wait to frequent this place, it knocked my socks off! Get the salmon and veggies, you won't be sorry. Good beer on tap, our martinis were delightful as well. The wine list is nice, there are a few options to please most palates and the price point is typical on the bottles. Pro tip: ALWAYS purchase a bottle as opposed to by the glass-saves the customer money and in WA state it's legal to cork and take home with you. Cheers! read more

A wonderful, memorable dinner delight! This past Saturday evening my wife and I had dinner at John's Grill in Mukilteo. We started with drinks (I took time to look things up for this post). I had, the Midnight Manhattan - Sazerac rye, Carpano Antica sweet vermouth, and amaro Nonino combine for a subtle herbal, and velvety Manhattan...it was a very balanced and tasteful starter. My wife had the Berry Bramble - Wheatley vodka, muddled blackberries and raspberries, Chambord, and lemon juice shaken and served with a skewer of fresh berries. She wouldn't share a taste! It was that good. Next our entree's. I had the Grilled Porkchop - A very thick and tender pan seared pork chop, caramelized onion, cremini mushroom, roasted garlic topped with a brandy veal sauce reduction served with seasonal vegetable and potato du'jour. The sauce mingled with the potatoes. The chop had a smoky grilled taste. Very satisfying. My wife had the Seafood Risotto - Sockeye salmon, Penn Cove mussel, east coast little neck clam, prawn, bay scallop, cremini, red onion, red pepper, tossed with a creamy risotto and finished with toasted panko. She left a bite for me. the risotto was creamy and delicious as advertised. Our waiter was professional and helpful. The room was not crowded with tables though they could have chosen to put two or three more in place... We thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend John's Grill. Wait! Dessert. I can't remember what it was called. Do you remember eating dixie cups with vanilla and orange sherbet? The Chef made his own using gelato and vanilla mouse or pudding. It was served with a wooden spoon to remind us of the old days. It was lovely. read more

This place was just perfect. On a wonderful date night and wanted to try something new. Driving around we found John's and walked it. Place was pretty full but the bar area was wide open. We sat down and was instantly waited on. Great wine with a personable waitress. The decor was fantastic and in the bar you had a view of the kitchen. All the cooks seemed to be having a great time. We ordered our food and it was placed in front of us quick. Now here is where it matters. "the food!". It was amazing I was savoring every bite. Well and evenly cooked I could tell it was fresh. Will go again. read more

Really amazing food! Service was a bit slow but good food is always worth the wait!!!

"Ooo, we should go there." "That place looks cool." "I hear they have an interesting menu." "Are we EVER going there?!" Last night, after finding a jam-packed Diamond Knot (dang you, "Tight Wad Tuesdays"!!), we decided to FINALLY make a stop up the hill in Old Town Mukilteo at John's Grill. The location is new and the space is certainly cool, posh, and chill. I liked the art they had hung. For some reason I kept diving into the painting of a 70's muscle car. After a rough day (backed up sewer, drive over Scary Snoqualmie, and not eating the whole day), I was ready to get my eat on. They only had two brews on tap, so I had the Diamond Knot IPA (bro had the Manny's & my future sister had the house red). For an appetizer we had Polenta sticks. I didn't know what polenta was, but it was seasoned well and the it tasted good with the Roquefort sauce. For the entree, I was torn between several (somewhat pricey) dishes. I ended up going with the most expensive (deserved it after the wacked day I had AND since my bro was payin!): Filet Mignon cooked with peppercorn. I loved my meal. The meat was succulent (I had it cooked medium well, instead of the "burnt to a crisp" I usually go for), and head-spinningly good. It was served with asparagus & small potatoes. I snuck bites from my bro's NY Steak (yum), and sister's Pork Tenderloin (SNAP! The sauce was good on this one! {this was one of my other choices}). Our server was nice and we were digging the atmosphere, even if it did feel a bit hawty tawty (I was dressed for a pub!). John's Grill did not disappoint! read more

John's Grill - Delicious food and best of all WONDERFUL SERVICE! We started with this yummy appetizer the "Prawns Cocktail." - Seafood Near Me - Mukilteo, Washington

My parents really love this place. I mean REEAlly love it. After they discovered it last Christmas I swear they were talking about the steak with roquefort cheese for over a month. The quality of food here is excellent - the corn chowder is *Amazing*. So is the crab cake and the steaks are all consistently delish. John's is in a quiet little out-of-the way spot that gives you a good excuse to drive down to pretty Mukilteo. It doesn't have the view that Ivar's has but it won't have a crowd either and you're guaranteed awesome service and food. read more

My experience was less then desirable, had reservations for four at 7:30 pm on a Saturday. We show up and are told it will be a few minutes the people at our table have almost finished their entrees and they don't think they will get dessert. we are finally seated at 8:30pm. The server comes to our table and says we have appetizers coming. We are out of mashed potatoes and salmo. if you must have salmon it will take 15 minutes longer to prepare. Dont want free food just wanted to take my kids out to an upscale restaurant as a treat . Amazing food but their management skills are lacking and for such a high rating i would think it would be more professional guess not. Don't have have more then one toddler in their in there at a time as they only have one high chair !!!! read more

Cute little place off the waterfront. Our service started a little slow. But was made up for in hospitality and taste. Everything was great. There wasn't one plate left with food on it. We all tried something different - from the seafood linguini to the stroganoff (and they were kind enough to leave out the Mushrooms.). And I assume the owner who served us - a woman after my own Heart - asked me if I had heard of Rombauer wine - I said it's only my favorite - she said ok well next time you come in I'll have it. Unfortunately we live in California - but we will come back for family visit and we will come here too !! Yum !! read more

As always John never disappoints! LeeAnn and I needed to cut loose and celebrate her positive job interview with the local school district. Enjoyed a beautiful day in paradise with a window table at Johns! Checked in on yelp and were given a complimentary polenta appetizer! On to the house salad with blu cheese! The beef stroganoff was flavorful with tender slices of perfectly seasoned meat paired with a couple glasses of Zin. Her fresh king salmon was the special and the take home box was not needed by either of us! Our favorite place. Nina was a great attentive server. Thanks John & Lisa, The 5 stars is a perfect 10 with us! read more

We ventured to John's based on Yelp reviews but we had moderate expectations. We found the intimate little place in old town Mukilteo but without a water view. Strangely, the place was steady but not overly busy. Based on the quality of the food, this is surprising. We started out with the crabcakes (actually 1). It was terrific. Light, fluffy texture w/ plenty of crab. I haven't had one quite like it. Definitely better than I expected. For entrees, I ordered the NY steak prepared with peppercorn mushroom sauce. The steak was cooked medium rare as ordered. The steak was juicy and flavorful Not as tender as I'd hoped for but not bad. My wife had the filet prepared with the carmelized onions and roquefort dressing. Unbelievable! It was really good. Very tender, very good flavor. Definitely the standout entree. We will definitely go back. We will both order the filet. read more

Pretty small place. Service was great, food was good too could add a few more choices on menu‍

This is the hidden gem of Mukilteo, it has to be the best restuarant in the Everett area. John maybe gone but the new owners have kept his recipes and the quality has remained the same. The BEST steak in Snohomish county hands down! Everything on the menu is delicious. Do yourself a favor and try this place next time you were planning on heading to Ivars, Anthonys, or Arnies, it's just a little further up the hill. read more

I'm debating between two and three stars here... Nice ambience, friendly service but the food is quite lackluster as are the preparation of the drinks. Let me elaborate.... We came in around 615 for happy hour. There were a couple of questions we had asked to gluten-free items and though the gentleman helping us didn't happen to know off the top of his head he was polite and quick to find out the answer. However once the food came, the food itself was pretty underwhelming: Happy Hour Burger: We didn't get asked for a temperature and we didn't think to offer one but when the burger came it was somewhere between medium well and well. Having it slightly less than that might've been better for the flavor of the meat. The cheese on it was a deliciously strong cheese from France that I normally love in moderation on crackers. This is called Roquefort. Think of a blue or Gorgonzola cheese but times 10 LOL! I saw this on the menu and so I was expecting it on the burger however because of its strength I didn't think they would put that much on. There was a lot of cheese on the burger and with that kind of cheese it over-powered all the other flavors to a degree that's nearly unimaginable! It made it very difficult to continue eating. Crab Cake: I ordered a crabcake which came out in a size I've never seen a crabcake before! It was absolutely huge! Now part of the reason why it was probably so large was because of all of the air and foam on the inside. Usually when I have crabcakes they are small and tight and compact, usually a patty form similar to a burger. While I'm always up for something new, this particular style was not to my liking at all. However this is simply an opinion and it's not to say that you might not like it. Steak Salad w Honey Dijon: The salad was easily the best thing on the menu and definitely don't have any complaints on it in anyway! The steak on the salad was simply mouthwatering the delicious and the greens and the dressing were wonderful! All in all that was a wonderful salad and I'm actually thinking about that meat right now! To drink I ordered a flight of red wine. I selected three of the top-tier red wines on their menu and none of them had any flavor. I believe this is due to the fact that inside the restaurant the temperature was quite hot! Maybe over 75° even! As a result the wines were all "cooked" to where I couldn't even taste the flavors of the wine. I literally had one drink from each of the glasses and push them aside. I didn't want to complain but was curious to see if the restaurant would acknowledge my dislike of the wine but, sadly, no one noticed anything. I wasn't planning on having any dessert but I did look at their dessert options and short of a few delicious dessert martinis and dessert coffee's, they were only two actual desserts on the menu. As I was not terribly hungry anymore and the options were limited I opted not to go with one of them but it was a little disappointing to only see two dessert options. This is the sort of place that I feel has the potential to do a lot better and I am excited to hear that they have upped their game however I don't know that I'll go back to try to be honest ‍ ... for $60 I could have done a LOT better somewhere else. read more

I really liked the food at John's Grill, and I'll admit I'm a foodie so things like presentation matter to me in addition to atmosphere and food quality. If your comparing this food to rest of offerings nearby this wins hands down. The food was definitely 4-5 stars, location was nice and window seats are the best. Calamari app wasn't all that special or memorable, reminds me of exact same order at Cheesecake Factory. Special was off the charts: In-season halibut wrapped in prosciutto with asparagus and fetticini. Things to improve: 1) Never ever attach menu additions with a clip to the menu, it's just tacky. Laminating your cocktail menu, also not the best. 2) Wait staff could have been more attentive on plates we had finished and taken them away. Note: Originally gave this review 4 stars but after seeing their video and realizing it a local staple and long time family run business they get an extra star; restaurants aren't easy. read more

I enjoyed every moment. From the welcome to exit. Service is great. Food is great. Pricy but great. Portion size on appetizers are just right. Get the beef kabobs. Awesome. I ordered two of them. One to start. One as my dessert. Awesome. The lamb Chops were great. One lamb chop short of a more filling plate. But I'm a big guy. Wifey had the pork but wasn't as great. The corn clam chowder was good. Spicier than she thought. Nice surprise. Small and quaint place. Small bar. Good for happy hour. Great location when the weather get super nice... it will be great for outside seating. I'd come back. Even if we felt "too young" for the atmosphere. Haha it was great. read more

Anytime my wife and I have a special occasion to celebrate (birthdays, anniversaries) we always find ourselves coming back here to John's Grill. Each time I go, I try something new on the menu. I have not been disappointed. To start, the bread they bring is heavenly. My wife found the same brand (Essential Bakery?) at Whole Foods and we just love it. I've had the beef stroganoff and the meat is so tender in addition to the entire platter being so creamy and flavorful. For the steak lovers out there, any selection will truly please your tastebuds. I usually go with the NY cut as these are just as tender as a filet cut. I feel so spoiled having such a great restaurant where I live. This is truly Mukilteo's hidden gem for fine dining in a casual atmosphere! Thank you so much! read more

Excellent food, Terrific service, wonderful ambiance and an overall incredible experience! 10/10 recommend

I hate making this review. I haven't been here in years and my family and I really enjoyed eating here. The ambiance of the restaurant and the service is great. In the past I've always been pleased with the food and never had a complaint. My fiancé, and I wanted to go somewhere special for my birthday and wanted to eat somewhere local. I've been telling him that I wanted to go here for over a year and told him that he would really enjoy it. We were left very disappointed with our experience. We both got the Caesar salad and both had a few bites. The lettuce was wilted and soggy. My fiancé had the seafood linguine. The pasta and sauce was good but the scallops and shrimp was overcooked. I got the salmon with potatoes with caramelized onions with like an apple dressing. The whole entree was unpleasant. The salmon didn't taste right and the potatoes and dressing tasted burnt. We ended up spending well over $200 for our dinner. For that price, we were left really disappointed and shocked about the bad experience. read more

Really nice setup on the patio, pretty well distanced. Christine was super attentive and very friendly. Limited menu, which can be a little challenging to navigate for specialized diets (mine is keto) but they do a few things really, really well. Had the salmon, it was quite good! Definitely interested to return and try out some of the other options on the menu, and see if they can do a few tweaks towards more keto friendly. read more

Dessert vs deserted If you insist on rolling the dice in Mukilteo- Make reservations at least an hour before you want to eat. The drinks are small and slow to get to the table. I waited for over an hour for my food that came over cooked and cold. Needless to say - it was a very disappointing experience as everyone else who arrived after were getting desserts by the time we got a refill on water. I felt discriminated against and will never be back. Getting charged for a replacement meal that I didn't even want was insulting. That's for ruining my one my night out that I dared to take this year read more

We moved to Mukilteo in 2020, and due to Covid shutdowns and busy schedules its taken us a while to finally dine here. We were really looking forward to it! It's a quaint place and great menu however, my salmon was full of bones. I almost swallowed one which made me panic a bit. I think for a dinner costing upwards of $170 for 2, the quality should be better for the salmon. I didnt complain to the waitress because every time I got a bone I told myself "oh, that has to be the last one." I also didnt want to be a whiny customer at the time. i nearly swallowed and picked out of the fillet with my fingers over 7 bones. :( Highly disappointing. It really put a damper on the excitement we had to finally try this place. read more
