Just updating my review.. pizza was great as always with generous toppings. However, the penne vodka was so bland, dry and not enough sauce, see photo. I was looking forward to the dish and was really disappointed. How can an Italian restaurant mess up penne vodka, it's just pasta and sauce for $17, and it was not worth it and felt compelled to update my review. Ate as much as I can since I hate wasting money but had to throw away half of it. It was not good. I should've heed the other reviewer that said it wasn't good. Hence, I have to downgrade to 3 stars. read more

I haven't had John's pizza for many many years . This establishment was a staple in town when I grew up here in the 70/80s . Since returning from NYC , I've never found a great pizza delivery place that's very good quality and : or too expensive for what you pay for. This week I was back in town and craving a good NY thin crust pizza . Yelp Reviews looked very good for John's and they deliver so I gave it a try. Johns did NOT disappoint. We had a margarita pie w fresh basil and a clams casino pie too, both very good , very tasty , and crust was crunchy and flavorful , NOT a bland overly doughy , heavy mess . The next night we ordered NY style calamari w cherry peppers, really yummy , another margarita pie, and chix parm dinner that came w side of pasta and a very nice salad w homemade dressing . This Second order was just as good ! And I must say their Cesar Salad was the best "delivered" cesar salad I've had in town with a delicious homemade dressing , FRESH Parmesan shavings with CRUNCHY tasty home made croutons. I ordered it twice! Johns staff is friendly and accommodating and their delivery menu is extensive too with many options so you won't get bored easily . Gotta say this is my new go to in Ridgefield. John's Best is always a safe option when you don't want to make dinner. I can only vouch for the pizza because that's all we ever get, not sure about their other dishes. Our favorite go to is Chicken Bacon Ranch. That's always good. We've tried a few others, they are hit or miss. The crust is good and they're usually super fast to make our order so we always have had hot pizza. read more

We have picked up pizza here almost every Friday night for the last 6 months. This past Friday, I picked up 1 large cheese pizza . Called at 6:36 and picked up at 6:55. When they handed me the box- it was cold. Usually the box is very warm because the pizza just came out of the oven- I knew right then this was a pizza that had been sitting around a while and not picked up from another customer. My fault for not saying anything before I left, but I couldn't wait another 15 minutes for them to make me a fresh pizza even if I did say something. My point is this- with so much competition in the area, combined with the fact that there are rarely ever more than 6 cars in their parking lot and business is obviously struggling, I am appalled that they would risk losing a customer by trying to save a few dollars by serving me an old pizza. It was Friday night and all my family wanted to do was eat a nice freshly made hot pizza- shame on John's Beat in Ridgefield. To the Owners that will reach out after they read this review and tell me to call the restaurant to make it right- don't bother, you had the nerve to serve me an old and cold pizza- it wasn't an accident, and I will not be calling back. My husband and I went for a later evening last minute dinner this past Friday night and we decided on going to John's Best. We were immediately greeted and seated in a very friendly fashion! Our waitress made sure we had everything we needed and checked on us frequently. We had the Chicken Parmesan dinner and it was delicious and a nice size portion. Bread on table was good and dinner came with a nice garden salad. Price was reasonable. Overall a very nice experience. We will be going back to John's Best soon. read more

Just had another amazing dinner here. I think some of my kids' favorite memories when they look back on these years will be dinners on the patio at John's Best. We went after a lake swim. Incredible salads (especially the Signature), delicious mozzarella sticks (not always on the menu, but they have them). They have GF pasta and accommodate other special diets--my dad has quite a unique one. My daughter got her favorite the baked penne with a good portion leftover for lunch today. I have had a lot of pizza in my day so I know it's not that hard to make an edible one. we ordered 2 veggie pizzas not cheap and picked them up along with a number of entrees. the veggies were grey overcooked and tasteless, the crust was soggy and flavor less there was little sauce the cheese was also tasteless. I don't know if it all was in the back of their fridge and they just loaded everything on figuring we were out of staters and it wouldn't matter or if that is their regular faire but awful would be a compliment. Next time we'll go to Whole Foods for a frozen pizza it will be better quality and not the garbage we were served. read more

The Regulars really seem to love this place. The owner says people rave about the eggplant; it's not breaded but the Buffalo wings are. If you ask for extra pizza sauce they will refuse because it's not cooked. Apparently, when you run tomatoes through a blender you also have to run it through the oven - must be "Artistic integrity." Over 4 yrs ago we stopped in on our way to the Danbury Mall and we have become regulars since. The food is fantastic one of the best places we go to. If you are in the mood for a good salad try the signature salad and If you are ever driving around route 7 and you want a great place to eat I highly recommend stopping in and getting some food. Okay, so I can't vouch for a wide variety of food here, but what I can vouch for is the house dressing and the rolls. OMG. If they sold that salad dressing, I would put it on everything. The first time I saw it, I thought it was raspberry vinaigrette because it has a slight lavender tinge. But I was wrong! It is an amazing Italian vinaigrette with a secret purple ingredient, apparently. Also, the bread is to die for. We love John's Best. The staff is friendly, the food is tasty and the price point is spot on. Typically we choose authentic Italian dishes but have also enjoyed the pizza. The veal is exceptional and the Scrod Calabrese is excellent. The mixed seafood salad is authentic and in line what I have had at great restaurants from the Amalfi region. Great food, great service. LOVE the pasta arrabiata. I've never waiting more than 20 minutes and appreciate the owner (who works hard and long hours) making pleasant conversation when you arrive. Pizza is very good too, very consistent with the quality. My only recommendation is to boost the ambiance. Had dinner at John's the other evening after searching for authentic pizza....My search is over! Having grown up in the Bronx I think I am a qualified judge of simple and authentic Italian food. My expectations were met and then some. From the opening scungilli salad which was bright, fresh and plentiful, to the mussels marinara, to the pizza, all dishes hit the mark perfectly. Ok... my experience at this John's Best Pizza was definitely the Worst. I was used to the other John's Best and my friend and I decided to go to this one on Sunday. I was surprised that it was empty, but we thought "maybe it's because it just opened up" Service: 1/5 - We get in there, and a lady is too busy watching the TV on the bar, she comes serve us like she is doing us a favor. We probably came in the the best part of the soap opera, and I'm sorry if we did, but at least try to make it look like you are actually happy you have a customer there....at lunchtime ...on a Sunday... Food- 1/5- To start, I like the loaf of bread served as soon as sit down at a restaurant, but we were served what we like to call "Beggar Bread" you know...bread that is a couple days old, cold and hard... We were not enjoying the way things were going so we decided to just order pizza, since you can't go wrong with pizza from a place called John's Best Pizza... (or so we thought) We ordered Chicken, Bacon Ranch Pizza and oh gosh, the pizza was SO DRY. (When I order pizza, I want obese american style PIZZA, with the heart attack fatty oil puddles on top and stuff, don't make it fat free...I mean who diets on a Sunday? ) But this one barely had ranch or cheese NOT good at all. I am from out of town and came upon this restaurant driving thru with my son and husband late on a Friday evening. It was still pretty busy even at 9:00pm. The staff was attentive and friendly. The food came out unexpectedly fast and was absolutely delicious! My son had a personal pizza, my husband ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich and I ordered the signature salad. I was definitely impressed, we all cleaned our plates it was really tasty. The decor is simple but don't be deceived the experience was excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. We came here as overflow when Hoodoo BBQ had a 1.5 hour wait on a Saturday, and the kids were getting antsy. There were very few patrons so we had very low expectations, and boy were we pleasantly surprised! The pizza crust was perfect-- chewy on the inside and crispy on the edges. The flavor reminded me of some of the best pizza joints in NYC. We ordered a kids size spaghetti and netballs that could have easily fed an adult! It was also very tasty, and kids were happy (biggest critics as you know!). Cesar salad was crispy and perfect. Garlic cheese bread not to be missed when you come. It's a 30 min drive from Stamford and I'd definitely make the drive again just for a good slice of NYC style pizza and friendly service. read more
