I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area!! We found this out-of-the-way restaurant by a search in Yelp because we were not familiar with the area we were in. We were blown away by the cleanliness of the restaurant (including the bathroom), the service, and the food. My wife ordered chicken parmigiana and I had a special, eggplant parmigiana on meat ravioli. Both of our meals were delicious, and we have very discerning tastes for restaurant food. I paired my meal with a delicious glass of Chianti. For dessert, I had espresso and my wife had a cappuccino. Both were well done. Service tends to be friendly, portions are solid, and it checks that "comfort food" box. But The BEAST isn't here for vibes alone... helpful definitely, but we're here for the food. And this is where things level out. The dishes especially staples like chicken parm come out looking the part, but flavor-wise? It's a little one-dimensional. The sauce leans heavy and slightly flat, lacking that bright, fresh tomato punch you want in a strong Italian kitchen. It fills you up, sure but it doesn't leave a lasting impression. Food is very good. The large salad portion is huge, along with the dressings they give you on the side. Pizza was ok. The only negative comments I have are the hardwood seats. I'm just not a fan of not having a padded seat in a restaurant. Also they lay down a cloth napkin on the table as a tablecloth. Everything was sliding all over the place. I'd eliminate these. We lived in Danbury for 12 1/2 years and our go to place was Augie's Numero Uno. We left Danbury a few months before Augie's was sold. Today my wife wanted to drive to Danbury to do a little shopping. I decided to look up some things online and stumbled on to the fact that Augie's cousin Gisella had opened this restaurant almost 7 years ago. Also that her husband was the chef, who had also been the chef at Augie's for years. Of course we had to try it out for dinner after our day of shopping. It was definitely worth the visit. A number of staff members had previously worked at Augie's and remembered us. It was a great reunion. The food was just as good as we remembered. Even with a 50 mile drive we will make sure to go back at least a few more times this year. read more

We had a give certificate for Gisella's arranged to go for lunch,since the open at 12 noon on Sundays. The parking is difficult for handicapped ,as my husband does have walking distance difficult, but across the street from the restaurant is parking so we managed to park there. The people at the restaurant were delightfully welcoming and the service excellent. Since it's a family own business you immediately feel at home as the waitress took pride in her working there for years and could recommend some delicious choices. Place has gone down hill! Our family walked in when it was not even that busy, and stood there for several minutes before anyone sat us at a table. With more than 10 staff members walking around like foolish zombies, not ONE said a word like "someone will be right with you". After getting set at a table for 4, we then again sat there for a while before someone came to our table. This person looked like they just rolled out of bed and forgot to get dressed as it looked like she was wearing her pajamas. Rest of staff was no better, worst dress code we have ever seen. After we finally got our drinks and ordered some appetizers and our entries, we specifically requested that they do NOT "fire" our dinners and bring them out until we were done with the appetizers. We were told "oh, we never do that". So when they brought out the greasiest fried calamari we have ever seen, and over cooked mozzarella sticks, they also filled the table with the salads that should have been brought out with our entrees. One salad was to have no cucumbers in it and sure enough it had some in it. So the salads sat there untouched until we were served our entrees. It's bad enough the tables to seat four are way too small, we now have 4 glasses of water, 4 drinks, basket of bread, 4 bowls of salad, a platter of Mozzarella sticks, a platter of calamari cluttering the table it was pathetic. So, as we dealt with the clutter, we had the greatest entertainment by the staff taking turns giving shoulder messages to one staff member who was sitting on a crate near the glass and silverware station. This went one basically throughout the time we were eating. Once our orders came out, we had to make room for the plates within the clutter. All four dinners were bland, and nothing had a spec of seasoning on it. Not sure who is cooking back there, but they need to go to school to learn how to season properly. Will wrap this up by saying the only service we got that was fast, was the check! Never again will we step foot in this place.. Been living in the area for many years and this place should get no stars! And as we walked out, no one of the many zombies just standing around that we passed by said "have a good night", come again" nothing.. Don't worry we won't be coming again!!! read more

Food quality / price (value): 9. The atmosphere is Country Italian. The menu is exactly what you'd expect at an Italian restaurant. I had the Chicken Scarpiello with sweet sausage over angel hair. There was plenty of chicken, sausage, and pasta, and a very flavorful sauce. The wife had the Chicken a la Gisella, stating that it was excellent. We both had enough leftovers for at least one more meal to take home, and the Chicken Gisella was closer to two meals to take home. The service was okay, but completely fell apart towards the end of the meal, which seems to happen at all restaurants sometimes. The lighting was blindingly bright in the room in which we were seated for some reason, and I believe it should be lowered 50% anyhow. Placed a delivery order on Sunday evening close to closing time. I would definitely try Gisella's again not so close to closing time. It could be in my mind but I always feel like quality is a bit less closer to closing time. Our order came complete (missing no requested items. Our food costed $52 and change including tax and tip. I feel like the price was good for an appetizer, two meals, and two add ons. The garlic parm bread had just enough of the buttery garlic taste on nice crunchy piece of bread. My husband's meal was pasta with alfredo, grilled chicken, and what he was really looking forward to some nice broccoli. He did not prefer the consistency of the alfredo but enjoyed the grilled chicken and broccoli. For my meal pasta with garlic and oil, and a side of meatballs. We were looking for something different and found this little hole in the wall. It's a little Italian restaurant tucked away down a side street. You'd never know it's there. Service was prompt and courteous. They have a large menu with all the Italian and Italian-inspired favorites. The girlfriend and I split a pizza, and while I have zero complaints, it just didn't stand out. It's like any other Italian restaurant in the area. By all means, try it! Love this cute little place. They brought us out fresh warm bread. The mozzarella frittata just melted and was so fresh. The salad has homemade croutons and the pasta alla vodka was the best I ever had. You could tell the sauce was made with love and the pasta was perfectly Al dente. Made for good leftovers too because the portion was huge. The service and food was so wonderful and the environment is so welcoming. The prices are reasonable for this quality of food. First off...sitting down, there was a woman cackling in the background and no one told her to shut the fuck up. She sat there and was taking photos of everyone and the waiters were not even concerned. Second...there was swearing and insults being thrown around the room...A toddler throwing up and the waiters telling the parents to clean it up...The waiter handed the parents a towel and wipes and said "Clean this shit up"...Third it took too long to get drinks, appetizers and food..Not to mention the loud dishes clanging and dropping the plates and silverware on the ground. Went here last evening for an Early Bird Dinner. My wife has been here several times and raved about it. This was my first. Don't be turned off by the recent one star reviews....my experience was very positive. We were greeted warmly and seated, and immediately served bread. Our waitress, who was wonderful and friendly, immediately came and gave us our menus and took our drink orders. We ordered off the Early Bird menu. I had the Eggplant Florentine and my wife had the Chicken Franchese. We both selected the salad as our side. The salads were nicely prepared, fresh and cold! Balsamic dressing was delicious and my wife's blue cheese dressing was serviced on the side as requested. Eggplant entree was excellent as was the chicken entree. Portions were lunch size, but still sufficient. At $15 each, it's a total bargain! We each had a glass of red wine at $8 which were decent pours...again...a great bargain. We were in the mood for Italian so stopped by Gisella's. We were seated at a cozy corner and given our menus promptly. I chose the Linguini with vodka sauce and the hubby chose hot sausage, peppers and onions. I also got the garden salad with gorgonzola. Fresh bread was brought out and my salad followed shortly. The salad was so good with the house vinigrette & gorgonzola I had to share with the hubby. Just looking at the pictures makes me hungry again! When the entrees came out, I forgot my salad. These were huge plates. My dish was great. My husband was in heaven. We barely spoke. You can clearly taste there is love and pride in the preparation of the food. Service was good (there were A Lot of people). Hubby found out there are free soda refills. When we were done, we had to package the leftovers. They also asked if we wanted to take home the remaining sodas we hadn't finished. Who asks that? Needless to say, this place knocks it out of the park for us.
