We were walking around Ridgefield and needed something to eat. We've been there so many times that we've tried just about everything, except for Baja Cocina. You wouldn't expect downtown Ridgefield to have a taqueria amongst the upscale shops and math tutors, but guess what? Remember when Hilary was running for president and her opponent threatened there'd be taco trucks on every corner if she won? That wouldn't have bothered me one bit. I'm at a taqueria, I'm going to have some tacos! I ordered three: one with fried shrimp, one with mango and shrimp, and one with chorizo. (We went last week, so I forget the proper names. You'll see them on the menu.) The tortillas are the standard taco size, about 13 cm, so anyone can down a trio with room to spare, if you want an appetizer or dessert. They have table service, so pick a seat, grab or pour a soda or ask for a beer, and get ready. The kitchen is pretty quick, about as quick as eating three delicious tacos will take. The meats were fried or grilled to perfection. The sauces, fruits, and veggies are the perfect temperature and texture. A few Mexican hot sauce bottles are yours to use as you see fit, which this heat hound appreciates. My girlfriend's rice bowl looked great, too, so I'll assume this taqueria can do more than make some awesome tacos. They're space is a little cramped, being on the wrap-around first floor of a building with a staircase in the middle. It's an odd design, and not accessible, but you can blame whoever built this place decades ago. (Fortunately, I think you can get delivery, or a to-go order.) Great menu Asked for soft taco shell, got hard shell. Asked for lemon for my tea, got a lime. Ordered chips and salsa from cashier, and had to go back and ask again for them. No other customers were there, and an employee sat at the prime table in the front window and watching his phone. He didn't move when we came looking for a table. When you want an easy, casual, gets-the-job done lunch, this spot is good! It doesn't blow you away, but it's affordable and a ton of options and fresh ingredients abound. I wanted so badly for this place to be good, it's local and the menu looks good. But it is SO bland. Food for the whitest of white people who think mayonnaise is spicy. This quick bite taco/ burrito store is based on walk in, order from menu at counter , have wait person behind the counter prepare in my case two veggie selection soft tacos from containers like subway/ chipotle choose your items. We had a very nice lunch here on Friday. The ordering format is similar to what you see at Subway or Moe's or Chipotle. You walk down an ordering counter and your meal is made fresh to order right in front of your eyes. Take your pick of 12 taco varieties (fish, lobster, pork, chicken, shrimp, beef, chorizo or vegetarian) priced between $3.50 to $5.50 a pop. If you want something more substantial than tacos, no worries, amigo, because Baja also has burritos, salads, and rice bowls with 26 different things to pop onto your plate. They start at $9 or $10. Still want more? They have entrée sized combination plates (think carne asada, sautéed shrimp, enchiladas, fajitas) served with rice and beans for $16 or $17. Looking to cure a morning hangover? No frills taco place with tons of options! Their menu is a bit overwhelming but it's nice to see all the ingredients right in front of you and see that everything is fresh! Most recently I got the fiesta piña taco, but noticed it did not come with the...piña, so had to go back and ask them to add it. Found that odd. When I asked if it had it, the waitress went to check and came back to tell me no, which should not have been the answer/what she was asking given that it's IN the name! The Sur taco was delicious. I did not enjoy the elote which I don't think I've ever said and I do jokingly but seriously say corn is my favorite food. There was something about the spice used that felt more like something you'd get in the taco section of a supermarket aisle more than something authentic. Did not enjoy. My sister got one of the tacos with ground beef and it was horrible - felt like dining hall tacos with how boring and bland it was. read more

A quick stop in before catching a movie on a whim. Better than expected! Full plate of nachos that was enough for 2. Husband got a burrito and the food all over his face said enough about how much he was enjoying his Baja experience. We would definitely come back for an inexpensive lunch or dinner. Shredded pork burrito flavorless. No flavor of pork, like it was boiled. No cilantro or any flavors in the burrito. The chips are decent, but the salsa just tastes like tomato, no onion, cilantro or lime flavors. It also has no texture, like it was in a blender for too long. I hadn't been to Baja Cocina in about a year before tonight. While they were always good, I think they've kicked it up to a whole new level. Three amazing and overstuffed tacos. Both the blackened fish and lobster tacos were otherworldly wonderful. And the steak & chorizo was perfection. Reasonable prices, friendly staff, cheery casual vibe. This place punches Prime Taco in the face and gives them a swirlie for best taco in Ridgefield. Bravo! read more

New collection of food on the go that is direct competitor to dreadful Prime Taco. Decor is simple, trendy and hip but evenflow is extremely lacking-cannot imagine seeing this place swamped. For layout, this gets a 1 but decor gets a 3. Now let's move to what really matters...the food. Sampled 2 of the tacos, both pork, the diablo and the Pina. Not bad-had some good flavor and porks were moist in both as they did vary in seasoning since one was made with grilled pineapple. Was jonesing for a seafood option but this has not made its guest appearance yet so will save for another time. They offer shredded chicken, pork, ground beef, beef strips and countless of accoutrements to garnish with-as mentioned seafood is an option but was just not available tonight. A nice array of sauces and a tasty simple guacamole that is good and is just not avocado mashed...they put a lot more pizzazz into it. The stud ordered the ground beef burrito with spicy sauce, pico de Gallo, guacamole, hot peppers, cheese, Spanish rice and refried beans...was pretty tasty and gets a 3.2/5. Fajitas are available and are reasonably priced. No margarita bar here but beer is available and the staff here is far more astute and speedier at delivering fresh food to its clients-even the taco maker on crutches was pretty impressive at balancing himself and layering tacos in conveyor belt like fashion. The sauces were decent, not great but again better than PT. Overall, I would rate this kid friendly and adult satisfying. Ingredients are super fresh and your food is made to order and made smack in your face so that's a plus...would I go back? Yeah, why not...but again, I am not running here but I could easily be coerced to go. They have a lot to offer from simple to complex and in terms of Mexican, pretty reputable for this cute town as the others don't seem to pass my test. read more

There are a variety of choices of fresh foods to choose from for your bowls, tacos, burritos, etc. There are also several types of entrees to choose from which are also fresh and delicious.
