3.5 but rounding up Decent tacos with a lot of different options that are not usually found in a typical taco place. I had the al pastor, lengua, chicken tinga, and surtido. Three tacos are plenty filling. The tacos comes with the basic topping, cilantro and onions, along with limes and some hot sauces. The limes were dry and the hot sauces weren't to my taste though. The al pastor taco was the best, you can never go wrong with that choice. The lengua was ok, chewy and soft but I prefer it more firm. The chicken tinga taco is topped with iceberg lettuce. The chicken was good but the taco on a whole was a bit dry and felt like it needed something more. The surtido taco was new to me, which consists of pork and pork skin. It has an interesting texture, nice and chewy but has more skin that meat. I thought the skin would be roasted or fried like chicharron, but it wasn't. This place is great! The location is a bit odd but the food is awesome. It's not really a sit down place but there are a few chairs and a bench. Just be aware that generally get a lot of orders so best to call ahead. I've been here many times and have ordered most of the things in the menu. This is a great spot! Honestly, my boyfriend had told me about this place a lot. I personally have never had a Mexican taco so i was excited when he bought 3 chicken tacos . He had also got a chorizo and streak burrito that was really good when i bit into it. All protein was seasoned great, a lot of outstanding flavors. I He said "This burrito is the bomb diggity, this s*** is straight flames! Fire! Fuego!" For those who don't understand, the burrito wasn't spicy this is his way of saying it was amazing. The hot sauce is really traditional Mexican hot sauce, so its going to make your face hot and eyes tear if you eat spicy stuff every now and then. Now if you don't tolerate heat well I would not recommend the hot sauce to you (and stay out the kitchen). Also I would say don't pour too much hot sauce on your food because it could possibly ruin it, they season their chicken very well and unfortunately I poured too much over a taco and it ruined the whole taco. My boyfriend says that the mild sauce is absolutely phenomenal. I personally don't like the aftertaste of most hot sauces so I'd rather use spices instead of sauce to get my heat. In conclusion, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for real Mexican food. read more

Food is still good, but they've gotten extremely dishonest with their pricing. Ordered over the phone while looking at the website prices , and when I came to pick up, the bill was significantly higher, with items being up to multiple dollars more expensive. When I questioned the total, the cashier stated that the menu prices are newer than those on the website and handed me a paper menu. If you've had the time to print a new menu, how could you possibly not have time to change website prices as well? Of course, no offer from her to honor the website prices. On top of that, after leaving and comparing my itemized receipt with the menu she handed me, I noticed that the charges on my receipt for some of the items were higher even than those on the paper menu she handed me! This is disgusting, insulting, underhanded behavior by this establishment. The restaurant has been reported to the BBB and chamber of commerce. read more

Amazing authentic Mexican food! It is a very small hole in the wall, with delivery and pick up options. I ordered 4 tacos: crispy pork skin, lengua (cow tongue), pork pineapple, and tinga chicken. It was presented beautifully (well - as attractively as food can be arranged in a takeout container). I was comfortably satisfied after three tacos. Fresh, perfectly seasoned, and delicious ingredients. I highly recommend all of them, especially the pork pineapple taco. The fried pork skin is VERY crispy, almost like very well-done bacon. My boyfriend got 3 chicken tacos (the marinated chicken--forgot the name). Adding lime and the spicy red hot sauce that came with it made the experience even better! We also got 2 chicken tamales. Not enough meat in my opinion. But with the spicy sauce they were good. Also ordered chips & guac. Not my favorite. The guac is a little watery as if they were skimping on the avocado, so I had to dock a star for the disappointing guac. But it came in a pretty decent sized container (8oz) for $4.75. I'll accept some fault for making a special request, but I love cilantro and hate hot lettuce in equal measures. After a PERFECT execution of my "please add cilantro / avocado and lettuce on side, thanks!" request the first time I ordered enchiladas, every duplicate order since has been a hot mess. I order the same thing every Wednesday and, while still delicious, I am giving up on them getting it right. I am so disappointed. I've been coming to these guys, truck, Riverside and now Stamford for years. Today I ordered three salty steak tacos. The meat was tough, and the tacos were basically empty.. Just steak... Nothing else. No onions. Not even limes. None of the usual items they put in. This was worse than taco Bell. And to add insult to injury, they charged me .53 for an extra green sauce. Not sure how anyone could be knocked out by an experience here, but they seemed to be pretty prompt on their delivery. The food is nothing to write home about. It's best to stick to the multicultural melting pot in New York, if you truly want to experience the traditional taste of some truly fantastic, and authentic Mexican cuisine. I'm not sure why anyone would put cottage cheese on a quesadilla. The Pico de Gallo wasn't that great either. Not sure what was going on with the hot sauce they provided, but Taco Bell has better, and I haven't eaten there on years. Overall, if you're really not looking for anything other than a quick bite, this is a place to consider. Other than that, you're better off with a franchise restaurant. This little cowboy went to Yelp. This little cowboy searched for the best food in Greenwich in the $ range. This little cowboy (and his mom) had a chicken tamale, bean & cheese tamale, chorizo taco, carnitas taco, chicken burrito, guacamole, tortilla chips, Mexican Coke and agua. This little cowboy had plenty left for later. And this little cowboy went ¡olé! ¡olé! ¡olé! all the way home. This is one of those places that defines the term "hidden gem." It's literally 2 blocks from exit 5 off of 95 on a tiny side street with maybe five houses on it - only 100 feet from bustling East Putnam Avenue, yet a world away. I really want to keep El Charrito a secret, but I'm so excited - the food is top notch and such a fantastic value - that I just can't hide it. The owner lady who took our order was especially friendly and bubbly. Food was ready about 10 minutes after we ordered. Because this is take-out only, our choices were to sit on the front steps or find a table someplace. We ended up eating on a bench at Bruce Park after briefly considering plopping down at the nearby Patio(dot)com store (seriously). Think about where you want to eat before you come, unless you don't mind using your car as a dining room. Everything was awesome. The chunky guacamole was perfect, and at $2.50 for a 12 oz tub, an absolute steal. You probably couldn't even buy the two (or so) avocados packed into this container for $2.50. As far as I can tell, the tortilla chips are made fresh, as well - crispy and thick, with just the right amount of salt. I already know what I'm getting next time. Can't wait to return.
