Been going here for upwards of 5 years now. Small place in the middle of a hamlet, smacked between the town of Newburgh and the town of Montgomery. Top 10 in the whole Hudson valley for sure! Pizza is usually phenomenal! The Bang Bang slice out of this word, traditional crust, NY style...delicious. Plenty of toppings, plenty of choices, plenty of slices to go, pies to stay, cooler full of drinks, traditional and no traditional Italian dessert! Prices have been getting a little high, but the economy is driving ingredients up tremendously. 2 specialty slices and a bottle of soda $13.95....not terribly unreasonable. Atmosphere is cool, calm, quiet, and the TV is going usually all the time. Smells like a pizzeria, staff is great. 8/10 read more

Johnny's is alright. The pizza is not the best in town. The bang-bang pizza, however, is pretty solid. The crust is lackluster, and the service is pretty good. I find the prices to be a little bit high comparatively. The spot downtown is a more roomy and inviting environment. The location on 17k is cramped. read more

Extremely disappointed in this joint. As a fellow member of the Newburgh community and someone who was visiting Mt St Mary College to watch some incredible, electric D2 Women's Lacrosse, I stopped here on my ride home. I feel bad for the students that have to come here. Maybe this seems a little harsh, but here are the reasonings. I ordered a hero chicken sandwich and it took 22 mins...meanwhile I was eating in restaurant with nobody else there. My friend ordered a chicken parm sandwich with a chicken cutlet and it came sloppy with no substance. Straight bread and cheese, and grilled chicken instead of a cutlet! I put the picture of the sandwich below. The chicken was also extremely over cooked and tasted like cardboard. The fries...well...they're not good folks. They taste like my mother just threw theme in the microwave from ShopRite. The front cashier lady was very sweet and she tried her best, despite the difficulties at hand...she did give us complimentary knots, we didn't even complain, they just showed up at the table. She must have known. They also seemed understaffed...and lastly, DO NOT ORDER THE HONEY MUSTARD. It's Dijon mixed with straight shot glass cups of honey. So being in the neighborhood I've been able to visit this place I hand full of times and have been happy with every visit. The customer service is warm and gracious and the portion size is massive. As promised earlier I did update this review after a few visits. My most recent visit I had a panini that was enough for two even though I ordered for myself. There was nothing greasy about the sandwich and I have no worries about dripping anything over my work clothes. Harry who works the counter offered samples of the soup of the day which was good and I would recommend the cream of potato. Your order will be brought out to within 10 minutes of placement. Mind you this also has to do with the crowd and the to go orders. The place doesn't seem that busy but I suspect business will pick up once colleges back in session. Also give some the imported goods a shot but you will find at the base of the glass display. There's a Greek version of Nutella which might be better than what's marketed here. Once again the menu is very extensive and it will probably take me a long time to go through everything but rest assured anything you get here is quality and if you're not happy management will do the right thing. read more

I work in the City of Newburgh and get takeout from here a couple times a week. This is an excellent Italian deli, plus they have their own parking lot. If you know the City of Newburgh, you know how important the parking situation is to where you decide to grab lunch during work hours. I have always found the staff to be very nice folks. Burgers are good, they serve breakfast all day, they have pizza, Boars Head sandwiches, homemade soups are awesome... They've always got a cannoli or rice pudding or chocolate cake in that case by the door which is kinda mean because it's also where they have the grab & go salads, haha. Anyway this is my favorite go-to place, please eat here too so they stick around!! read more

This is one of the two johnnys locations in the area. The location used to be the northside deli. The owner Johnny is a nice guy. I usually eat at the location off of 17k. Its really close to the airport and I can order food for pick up or I can take the food on the plane with me. This johnnys has the same menu. Big portions. The pizza is more expensive than most pizza places in Newburgh. I don't usually get pizza. I stick with the burgers for $9 you get a huge burger. Both locations charge extra $3 for fries. It's very odd. But the food is really solid. The panini are really good to. The food is kind of like a greasy spoon type of place. Last time I was here I ordered a chicabonne calzone. The calzone was huge. A family of 6 could have eaten it. One of the coolest things about johnnys is they serve breakfast all day. Yes all day. They also deliver. They are one of the only places in the area that delivers breakfast. Morning noon and night! This location is hit or miss with service. More so than the one on 17k. I wish both locations were more consistent. Overall. Johnnys is a good spot for burgers. I will continue to come here. The food is good. The breakfast morning noon and night is amazing! We orders from Johnny's over 2 weeks ago. When our order arrived it was the wrong order and cold. When they returned over an hour later with the correct order there was a long piece of hair backed into the cheese of our pizza. We took a video of us pulling it out if the pizza and called to speak with the owner. He has yet to return our call or give us a refund. HORRIBLE SERVICE AND FOOD!! read more

So I have a love/hate relationship with Johnny's Riverside Deli & Pizza. I love the food but hate the price So let's talk food first. Excellent! Great pizza, Boars Head sandwiches and large salads. The menu has loads of specialty items for breakfast, lunch or dinner and it's always fresh and large portions. If you can't find something to eat on the menu then there is something wrong with you. Call ahead if you want to takeout as some items take awhile to make. They also deliver in the area. If I could afford to eat here everyday I would and that is the hate part, the.price. I understand that to get large portions and good quality you pay a little more, I just wish it was a bit less expensive. So I am not going to stop eating here, just not all of the time. Bottom line is if you are going to take a walk along the Newburgh waterfront instead of those trendy restaurants by the water try Johnny's Riverside Deli & Pizza. Highly recommended read more

We ordered 2 pies and 2 dozen wings yesterday and we're shocked to see what I paid for. Our pepperoni pizza was completely burned on the bottom. It was literally black and just nasty tasting. The mushroom pie was loaded so heavily with cheese it had skid completely off the pizza when driving home and was near impossible to get an even slice when we cut it. Yes, we had to cut our own pizza because it was half done. The mushrooms seemed to be marinated or something to that effect and they were beyond garlicky. The wings were SO small and barely had ANY meat on them and they were so over cooked I had a hard time distinguishing if it was eating cartilage or I was chewing on way overcooked skin. They were basically bones with buffalo sauce. I am so so disappointed and disgusted by the way they prepared our food and for the price!!???....over 40$ for the worst pizza and wings I have ever had. We could have gone to Olive Garden for that amount of money and had delicious food and exceptional service. I will NEVER bring business to this establishment again..... first and last time getting food here. I've come to this establishment a few times and I almost always get the chipotle cheddar burger and/or a soup. I only come to this place because of those two items and not the mean grandmother that takes my order. I mean she rolls her eyes at me Bc she suggested m/w for the burger and I asked her to switch it to medium. Cmon man. I feel strongly compelled to write this review because this depicted moment is the straw that broke the camel's back. She's been this way towards me since after my first visit. I never knew what her problem was, I'd even throw her some change in her tip jar to try and get one smile from her but nothing. I am a student and I can't always do that but I try when I can. Seems like she'd rather smile for people that don't look like students? Idk but whatever her problem is she should adjust it because it's affecting the people that put money into the business she's apart of. This is my last visit. read more

We order Italian subs from there often, and they are really good - Fresh bread, quality meats, and a nice coleslaw and pickle on the side. Beware though, they are *not* environmentally conscious there, and they will give you your sandwiches in a STYROFOAM CONTAINER!! Sorry I'm going to go full on rant . To be fair it seems like a lot of delis nowadays don't know how to make a scrambled eggs . Seems simple enough crack an egg or two into a bowl, beat with a fork and put on grill . Second time this week, the eggs has been put on grill and then swirled around making a faux scrambled egg that is neither fried nor scrambled , instead it's just a hot mess . Then when I call to complain, don't apologize just tell me to come back and you will give me another sandwich. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day . My food tonight was horrible. I ordered a Lg plain Pizza and an order of extra crispy buffalo wings. Seems like a simple enough order. The wings were not only NOT extra crispy, they weren't even crispy at all. They seemed to throw cheese on the pizza, put it in the oven and then pull it right back out. The pizza had pools of unmelted white cheese all over it and was just gross. I will not eat from this restaurant again as there are too many pizza locations in the area for this type of quality. read more

Poor quality control you never know what you're going to get. However, it's just bad more often than not now. We used to love this place but I think we are done after several terrible orders. I just picked up a cold cut sandwich from johnnys and It was hands down the worst sandwich ever. The bread was hard as a rock, there was barley any meat on it, Put mustard on it without even asking me, andoverall just the worst expiernce ever. I ordered a calzone from Johnnys. I was extremely disappointed! It looked really good until I cut into it and all the ricotta poured out like soup. Not sure if the ricotta was watered down. It tasted fine if you like to use a spoon when you eat your calzone. Won't be ordering that again. read more

The food is delicious! I have been here multiple times and it just opened recently! They have a lot of Greek selections, they have salads, sandwiches, burgers, and desserts. They are all delicious and not expensive. The people are very nice inside! Would definitely recommend to anyone! read more

Though I have yet to visit their new location on North St. I do want to give a shout out to their 17K location, which has some of the best & most inventive sandwiches, wraps, and paninis around. So many good ones to choose from (try the wrap with chicken fingers, roasted peppers, hummus, and more...unbelievably good!), and while the pizza might not be up to par with Joe's Pizza or Vitanella's, it's still quite decent. Their new location has an expanded deli, so I'll be checking that out soon and reporting back with a full review. read more

This place only survives this long based on location. I ve been there three times to take out meals for my family and every time the order is wrong. Plus the quality of the food is very poor. The Phila cheese steak was tasteless and basically precooked meat heated and served on a small sub with layer of melted yellow cheese. I called after the second order screw up and the owner apologized thus he gets 2 stars, but has yet to fix the problem which is his staff is unable to take and order and deliver what you asked for. They seem like a clean place and the people are nice, but honestly I'm underwhelmed by the food. I got the steak sandwich with cheddar and horseradish mayo. Sounded awesome but it was kinda gross. I couldn't finish it. The ingredients seem solid so I'll take it home and try to add some flavor besides horseradish cause I feel like i ate a horseradish sandwich. I like that flavor but not that much. The other thing that annoyed me was I was looking for a location to do some work and hang out since I work remotely most of the time. However I need wifi to do that. I like supporting small businesses and was trying to avoid Starbucks or panera. As a disclaimer, I'm not sure if this is the restaurant's fault or yelp's but this place was listed as having free wifi. When I got there I was sorely disappointed. This was the fourth place I tried that had this issue so I'm not sure who determines those details but it should be remedied. Johnny's took over a horrible deli that was there for years (thank God!) and it has become our go-to place for take out. We mostly order calzones, pizza, pasta dishes and occasional sides. I actual really love their cobb salad too. We always pick up our food so I can't speak to their delivery service but the staff is always really nice and everything comes out quickly. The owner is VERY friendly as well. Their breakfast sandwiches are also on point. The ONLY complaint I have is that my boyfriend always asks for a cannoli or two and they rarely seem to have any filling made or any left for the shells. But their rice pudding is a great dessert substitute in my opinion (I'm not a cannoli fan anyway!) Overall, a great addition to this lacking neighborhood. read more

I wanted to stop in and give Johnny's a try. I ordered two sandwiches which were the same - turkey, swiss, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on wheat bread. The lady taking the order had such a terrible look and slow pace (like I don't care what you want to order because I don't want to be here attitude) She needs to go!! After her taking 5 minutes to just get the bread out to make the order I watched as she literally put 1 slice of cheese on the sandwich , you could read the paper through the 1 slice as it was so thin!!! C'mon, 2 sandwiches, 2 small bags of chips and 1 16 oz diet pepsi $19 :-) ... I have no problem spending $$ but 1 paper thin slice of cheese ??? Too bad because it is close by, but with that lady's attitude and what I received .... Never again ... I would not have her at my counter interacting with customers .. Good luck. read more

Johnny's started off with a bang but will end in bust if they do not pay closer attention to their service. The deli is neat and clean, but it is very difficult to get quick service in an organized fashion. Do yourselves a favor and train the staff to understand the customers needs.
