Joined my Mom and Husband for lunch and it was more than I expected. I have been a few times for dinner and I always get the same dish, the pasta. It never misses and is always made to perfection. Because it was lunch they didn't have the pasta so I chose the Friday special, catfish and spaghetti. It came with cornbread and a side. I got Lima beans. Drooling good.... My husband got fried chicken livers and rice with turkey gravy. My Mom built a blue plate special with catfish, sweet potatoes and greens. As usual, we did taste tests from all the plates and it was good eating! Our server was attentive and had a great sense of humor. Ok, so the hype is true! The food at Johnny T's is delicious. We had seafood beignets, catfish and grits (my order), and the house special which was grilled fish topped with shrimp & crawfish cream sauce over rice with spinach. Everything was great! The seafood beignets were more like boudin balls, but made with seafood. Fried catfish and grits... perfect! On the menu it's listed under the appetizers but it's more of an entree portion as well. All of it was good, but out of everything I definitely recommend the fish & grits. Ambiance: We ate downstairs in the bar/dining area and ventured upstairs for the entertainment. Downstairs is chill. Upstairs lounge is a whole vibe. Clinton Babers is currently doing a residency. He was on for about two hours and then the DJ followed. Note: After a certain time, there is a cover whether you're going up to the lounge or just dining. So just plan to get the whole experience. Service: Great. Food came out fast. Everyone was friendly, even security. Ryan, the bartender is the best. Parking: We got there around 8:30/9 and there was a free lot across the street and street parking available as well. Had an awesome time here with a large group when I was in Jackson for a conference. The only thing I had to complain about was the lack of vegetarian options. There was only one thing on the menu that I could eat, but it was a pretty universally liked pasta dish, and I wasn't disappointed. I also loved my drink--I ordered the Rick James. Still have no idea what was in it, but I'm guessing it was a sort of frozen Long Island situation. I forget Johnny T's Bistro & Bar serves lunch but my friend suggested it and I said ok. We both ordered the fried catfish with butter beans and Mac and cheese. I got these purely off her suggestion. I was a little miffed to only see one piece of catfish but I was so full halfway through it, I realize it was ample. It was seasoned well and was fresh out of the grease. The butter beans were hot and good and full of meat. Could have used a touch of salt and black pepper but they passed. The Mac and cheese was ok. That's a dish that's very subjective so I won't say too much about it. I love a good piece of cornbread and this muffin did not disappoint. It looked like it would be tough but turned out to be pillowy soft with a touch of sweetness. As much as I enjoyed it, I would be hesitant to try the dressing if they use that cornbread for it. I fear it may be too sweet to my liking. Service was good. It was very slow when we arrived but picked up considerably. No complaints on service. Bring the titanium card as their prices are expensive for Jackson, imo. Don't allow the prices to scare you away because the food is worth every penny. They play a great selection of tunes and offer a full service bar. The fellas they have as bartender/waitstaff lack finesse. I'm sure that's b/c the tip is added in as a Service Charge..My order is always to geaux because of the lightning (dim) and the neighborhood. It's in the hood, but the food is good! I ordered the baked chicken with Mac and cheese and greens. The chicken was so tender and flavorful. The greens were juicy and seasoned perfectly. The Mac and cheese was gooey and perfect. The server was amazing and so helpful. The food took a little bit longer to come out but it was obvious the chicken was freshly made. The music is awesome and adds to the atmosphere. On Saturday, September 20, 2025, I celebrated a birthday at Johnny T's in Jackson, MS. I was excited to meet friends and family, especially after reading great online reviews and hearing positive word-of-mouth. Unfortunately, the actual experience was disappointing. I arrived around 6:30 p.m. thinking I had a reservation I'd made on Thursday (9/18). I had called the restaurant Thursday, Friday, and even most of Saturday but no one ever answered. When I walked in around 6:45 p.m., staff told me I did not have a reservation and explained they purposely don't answer the phone during business hours because it's "too distracting." That's something guests should know up front. Outside, a deputy sheriff enforced a list of rules posted on a chalkboard--no outside cigars, no white T-shirts, no baseball caps, no tank tops, no flip flops, must have ID, guest cover charge, and must be 25+. These policies are strictly enforced, so they really should be clearly listed on the website for guests making plans. After some back-and-forth, my party of 10 was eventually seated on the patio. From there, problems kept piling up: Sanitation concern: A black kitten wandered in through the patio entrance and into the building. When we mentioned it, our waitress simply said, "We've tried to catch it but we can't. There's nothing I can do." Long delays: Food came out two plates at a time, often 15-20 minutes apart. Two of us didn't get our meals until everyone else was nearly finished. Service issues: Over half of the alcoholic drinks we ordered were never delivered. Unexpected blackout: Someone hit the pole securing the transformer outside, causing a temporary power outage shortly after I started eating. Payment policy: All items were combined on one check and we were told we could only use one form of payment or half cash/half card. This policy is unusual and should be made clear on the website and before taking orders. Staff attitude: Our server's communication became increasingly passive-aggressive, especially after I questioned the payment policy. When we politely asked the manager if he could consider even a small (10-15%) discount--given the long delays and the fact that two people barely got to enjoy their meals--he refused, saying "things happen and this was not his fault." The food itself was tasty, and the menu has an upscale feel, but the prices are on the high side and the customer service fell far below expectations. Overall, while the food was good, the experience--from strict unpublicized rules to inconsistent service and an unaccommodating management response--made this birthday dinner frustrating and not worth the price. This is my first dining experience in Jackson, MS and I was thoroughly impressed. First off, reservations fill up quickly for same day so try to plan a day in advance. You are warned ahead of time of a 20% gratuity for parties of 6+ or dining after 9pm (I'm guessing to pay the local artist playing that night). I didn't get to witness the live music but I know it was getting set up. There is some expensive $25 parking if you can't find anywhere to park. Felt relatively safe as a friendly Sherif set up right outside to deter any problems. Prices lean toward almost fine dining costs... be warned. Onto the food... Shrimp toast is hands down, the best thing I ate there. Didn't care for the sauce on the Seafood Beignets but they were alright. The pasta was exceptional for both the Cajun and Alfredo dishes. Pasta was cooked well and good portion sizes. Have enough for lunch the next day. Service was nice and friendly. For the record, being an Asian Canadian and walking into a bar/restaurant that is predominantly African American in sketchy looking neighbourhoods can be a little intimidating but the staff made us feel welcomed. This place became popular since it was featured on Deion Sanders' road to Colorado special. It definitely caught our (my husband and I) attention and so we made it a point to visit the next time we were in Jackson. We're in Jackson so we made reservations for my husband and I with another couple. The atmosphere was probably the best part of the experience. Our service was okay. It was very busy so it was hard for him to pay the necessary attention to us. I ran out of water and it was never refilled during my entire visit. The cocktails....not it. My husband and I ordered the Watermelon Margarita. The menu description said top shelf tequila. In actuality they used Exotico. Definitely not top shelf. I had to order another drink specifying Patron as my tequila of choice. For my entree I ordered the House Special but with Salmon instead of Tilapia. Spinach and salmon were extremely salty. I didn't eat it. For tasting efforts we tried the seafood beignets. It's exactly what it sounds like. It's beignets cooked with seafood in it. It was good. Probably the best thing I had of the night. My husband had the wings. He truly enjoyed it. My friend had the Cajun shrimp pasta. It was too spicy for my liking but she loved it. The restroom is a single stall and when I used it, it needed attention. The parking can be a challenge unless you want to pay $25 for designated parking. For two people our bill was $194. That included a $30 Service Charge which is 20% gratuity that they automatically charge regardless of the size of your party. From what I could tell that's not stated anywhere except on the bill when it comes out. My husband and I had 2 Margaritas each and that was $60 by itself. The food and drinks were definitely not worth $194. It was barely worth $100 much less almost $200. Oh I almost forgot! We ordered the strawberry cheesecake "from Cheesecake Factory". Mind you I live in Kentucky where we actually have a Cheesecake Factory. This was not it. It was frozen cheesecake thawed out. Perhaps Cheesecake Factory indeed but was definitely frozen. my second year living in jackson & am just discovering johnny t's. i came here on a sunday evening with friends. we weren't really into the celebrating 4th of july thing so we decided to get food n drinks at a restaurant instead. we arrived about 6pm, there weren't a lot of people present but the ambiance was dim and relaxed. there was a nice scent that was present as well which made the atmosphere more enjoyable. we were seated and greeted with a drink/food menu. our waitress got our orders in right away & recommended great drink options. i started with a frozay (rozay + moet) blended together. it was great, not too sweet & easy to sip. for entrees, my friend and i shared the shrimp salad with catfish & grits. everything was beautifully plated, they know how to plate their entrees & make them picture worthy. our waitress was kind of pushy but got us everything we needed! will be returning for good eats & music (hopefully more comfortably next time, i don't like feeling rushed to order) this place is a hidden gem on farish street, they also have some parking options as well. :) read more

My first dine-in experience back since all the Covid shut downs & it was great! I truly missed dining in & feeling like for a split second everything was normal. My friend and I had dinner here after work where we sat outside in their patio seating. There was maybe one other group of people eating when we arrived and 2 others joined later. We were all a good amount of distance from each other so there was not any uneasiness. I appreciated how our server lit the mosquito/bug repellents for each table while we were seated and was masked each time he approached the table. Onto the FOOD... I decided to order the Cajun Pasta with Shrimp (as it comes) and a Rick James frozen drink. OMG!! It was heavenly--I love Johnny T's because the food is so good, no matter what you order. And the Cajun pasta was exactly what I needed. For me, it was a nice portion size and the shrimp to pasta ratio was actually pretty decent lol. The only thing was that it was a little spicy, but I love spicy food so it wasn't unbearable for me, but beware if you don't like spice because it contains a whole lot. I had enough for leftovers the next day, and you know with great pasta the 2nd day is better than the first! The drinks were also tasty. I'm new to working downtown and decided to try Johnny T's based on a referral from a friend. I placed my lunch order via telephone and was told I could pick it up in 15 minutes. When I arrived, my order was ready and a 20% automatic gratuity was already added. Although hesitant, I signed the ticket. The website clearly states that a lemonade is included in lunch order. When I asked for the lemonades (3 of them), I was told that the website was outdated. I asked how is a customer supposed to know that, the person behind the bar dismissed by concerns and said if I wanted lemonade, I'd have to pay $3 for each. I made reservations on Open Table for a Sunday at 3. The entry was confusing. We went in and to the right what looked like the bar side with a few tables. We decided to go back to the bar and ask. Once again we were just standing around waiting to be acknowledged. Finally the bartender told us we could just pick a table. I gave him my name and told him I had booked on open table( apparently I didn't need a reservation because I got a notification from OpenTable saying I had missed my reservation). First off there are no servers there are about 20 tables, but you have to order all of the food at the bar, which is probably why they kept messing everything up. We had to assist other people with ordering and they food came out before ours. I asked the employee to check on our food and his response was "I didn't put yall order in." Nothing else done. So we step out he ask me what i needed andni told him and tried to explain to him again his response towards my son was unnecessary and he took it the wrong way. He begins again to speak ti my son about how he ought to act in a professional place of business. At this point I just gave up. He responded to my son in a rude tone and mannerism and insults him YET he wants to lecture my son? He then tells me I can come inside and talk to the young woman about paying my deposit for rental of the space upstairs but my son couldn't come back in But why not?? All he did was raise his voice above the music to get this guys attention. My son even tried to diffuse the attitude of the guy by apologizing for trying to help me get his attention. The guy didn't care about that and didn't acknowledge it. I told my son to go to the car. I went back inside emotionally shaken at this point not believing what had just happened to us and why at a venue I truly liked until yesterday. When the young lady came over i told her I was there to pay the deposit on the venue but i was shaken emotionally by what had just happened and it was best i come back tomorrow. She just smiled and said " Okay." No inquiry about what happened and no acknowledgement that something negative had just occurred to a potential customer w official check in hand. I walked out and will never go back as long as the rude and obnoxious short guy that works behind the bar is gone. I want to contact the owner Mr. John Tierre and make him aware of what is being tolerated and allowed in his establishment. From this point on if anyone ask me about this place i will share my experience and recommend they dont go because of the chance they may comebin contact with the abrasive, obtuse, visceral and extremely unprofessional short guy behind the bar. Came here with a friend on Sunday, and the place was busy we where able to get a spot at the bar while we waited for a table. They serve daiquiri's I got something called "Rick James" it's all them mixed together. The vibe here was very chill. Good music, local artist playing, a friend is telling me. We get a table, still no appetizers 45 min into our visit, but the vibe is chill, so no worries about that. I ordered "Shrimp Toast" and this is nothing but love on a plate so delicious! I can't begin to express the great flavor profile this appetizer has. I'd go back just for them. I also ordered the "fried broccoli" it was also very good great breading not over cooked. I ordered the "catfish plate" very good fish thin strips fried hard. a side of "grits" I was not the biggest fan but my friend liked them. The "greens" neither one of us cared for those to many stems. Also the chicken pasta with shrimp very good. I enjoyed everything the service was good from a staff stand point did not seem like we had one direct server but it seemed to work. Four stars because when I got my bill they added "gratuity" as "Service Charge" did not mention it when I was given my bill. I was in Jackson for a work trip and I decided to take my agents here for a appreciation dinner. I ordered a alcoholic beverage that tasted terrible, I took one sip and asked the waitress to take it back and bring me something else which she did. Dinner was great, everyone enjoyed thier food. I asked for the bill which totaled $499, I take it, briefly look it over and notice that the drink that I sent back was still on there. I asked the waitress kindly to take it off. She went to the manager and asked him to remove it, I'm guessing he refused so she came back and asked if I would like another drink instead of taking it off. I responded no I would not like anything else to drink and she walked off. When she returned she was accompanied by the manager who brought me a new bill and said, we didn't charge you for one of the other drinks you all ordered so we removed the one you didn't drink and charged you for the other. Your new total is now, $501. I then advised that that's fine however now her tip has changed from $80 to $20. I know it wasn't her fault but that was the only thing I could do to make me feel better about the situation. I felt like he tried me. Truthfully I don't know whether I was charged for the extra drink or not because everyone had multiple drinks and we weren't counting but one thing I will always do is pay what is required of me but I refuse to pay for something that was sent back. Any other establishment probably would've eaten the $12 and been ok with the $499 they were getting. But not these folks. The extra $2 costed his waitress $60. Hopefully they pay well! read more

Took a girls trip from Chicago to Mississippi for the JSU football game. From the time we sat down we were made to feel right at home. Our drinks were amazing along with our food. We knew the greens were a little too good. We inquired and the chef is from Chicago! Needless to say we ate there 2 days in a row excited to try everything on the menu. The food was priced very well. In Chicago we would have spent Double. We can't wait to return. read more
