My husband used a new delicate vegetable knife to hack at a coconut and broke the edge of the knife along many points. He then left for a trip hoping I would not notice before he could surreptitiously replace it. I noticed immediately of course. I took the knife to Johnny who sharpened it better than new without batting an eye. I also brought in two very old vintage scissors inherited from my mom who brought them from her home country over 5 decades ago. These scissors were precious to me, as I inherited them when she passed away. They were among the few things I was able to recognize and dig out of the Eaton fire rubble that was once my home. I brought them to Johnny just to see if he could clean them so I could display them in our rebuild and he did not disappoint. Not only did he clean the large one, but he was able to separate the blades and sharpen them, too. Johnny asked for my mom's name so that he could think about her as he worked on the knives. It meant so much to me that he made that effort and connection. His passion for his work shines and I feel incredibly fortunate to have such an artist nearby. read more

I needed to find a place that could sharpen a knife on the same day. I found Johnny's on yelp. Johnny answered the phone and said they were busy but they would be happy to see me as a walk in. They are located in Altadena so I'm always happy to support an Altadena independent businesses. Johnny's is on Woodbury next to the Ace hardware store and there is parking in the back. I enjoyed my visit with Johnny. He invited me to come into the shop and watch him sharpen my knife. while he worked he told me about other knives he had there and he appears to have a very nice set up many rotating belts and a strong determination to turn out a good result.. he sharpened the knife twice because at first it didn't meet his standards. I would be happy to go back to Johnny. I only brought one knife but in the future, I can bring more. He charged $10 to sharpen an 8 inch carving knife.. read more

Johnny saved my knives after they were ruined by Steven at LA knife sharpening (check Steven's Yelp page for the review). My wife and I were super frustrated at the work he did so we brought them over to Johnny to get them sharp again. Johnny explained to me every step of his sharpening process and I left with knives that are sharp as new again. It sounds like Johnny has 30+ years of experience sharpening knives whereas Steven barely just got into the trade and the results show it. Apparently Steven tried to learn how to sharpen knives from Johnny before starting his own business. Steven's just an imposter (with a huge ego too) while Johnny is the real deal. Life changing! Ok at least kitchen changing! I had gotten a quote of $25 per knife (!) at other places then saw Johnny's sign and gave it a chance.
