I had three of my knives sharpened at the Studio City farmers market. It had been a few years since I had done this and note to self to do this annually. It makes all the difference. I dropped them off, did some shopping around the market and picked them up 30 minutes later. $28 for 3 knives is a bargain. Friendly, professional and expedient service and my knives are like new again. I used Venmo for payment. read more

I've been using David for 5 years I wouldn't trust anyone else with my knives He's very reliable You don't need to talk to him He knows what to do And you pick up your knives from his side gate read more

I'm a professional chef and my knives take a lot of abuse. I've been going to different sharpeners for years that either were too expensive or turn around time wasn't quick enough. I even tried to sharpen them myself which was messy and time consuming. David is a professional in every sense of the word. He is communicative, fast, and affordable. I've been taking my knives to him for the past year and will continue to until either he retires or I do. I also appreciate that he does serrated blades, scissors and landscaping equipment- not many sharpeners will do that. Highly recommend David's knife sharpening. Your only regret will be that you didn't use him sooner. read more

Sharper Edge - Knife Sharpening Near Me

Sadly i was disappointed with Sharper Edge knife sharpening there at the Farmers Market. I brought him two good quality Kershaw pocket knives to sharpen. He left them in worse shape than when I brought them. To now have uneven edges and one of them has a divot towards the bottom of it. My brother's knife also has a ding in it that wasn't there before. It was a brand new knife so it was undamaged. The only thing good was the price. I guess you get what you pay for. I will never let him touch one of my knives again read more

Amazing service that couldn't have been an easier process! And Dave could not have a more awesome guy. It dawned on me the other day that my father-in-law complained about the knives when carving the turkey last year and I hadn't done anything about it with him flying in again in a few days. So happy I discovered Dave and was able to get the knives cutting better than they ever have in time for this year's Thanksgiving. read more

Awesome experience! Thank you for working your magic - you made our modern knives sharp-as-new and brought our 100+yr old heirlooms back to life! Terrific results, reasonable prices, super quick turn-around, and great sense of humor - you rock David, thank you! read more

Nope. Knives came back duller than when I left them. When I asked why I was told "Your knives are too old." Then he offered to sell me new knives. Went to another shop and they are sharp again. read more

I dropped my 7 knives off at David's place and within a few hours he sent me a text saying they were ready. $52 for 7 knives. I used the for the first time today and while I've always sharpened them myself his professional sharpening made cutting an onion feel like butter. He also told me they were really old and next time they loose their edge to let them go. They are over 20 years old and while hurtful to hear the truth Im glad he told me and he also gave me a brand suggestion for my next set. read more

Very easy to coordinate and drop off! Also very responsive and answers any questions you may have. Knives look great and very sharp. Will be using his service again! read more

It doesn't seem like many of the knives, clippers, or the hedge trimmer I brought were sharpened. I was disappointed with the results.

Everything went well! I found this gentleman at the Studio City Farmers Market & then rediscovered him during Covid. Maybe he was doing this before Covid, but he set up a system where one can bring their knives to his house. He has instructions about how and where to leave your knives, scissors, etc. He'll shoot you a total when he's done, along with the total. You bring cash, leave it in the basket & pick up your AMAZINGLY well sharpened knives, etc. He is kind enough to let you know if you need to replace some of your old knives or (as was the case with my serrated knives), they were on their last sharpening. So helpful! Who else in my little world would tell me this? Thank you so very much!! read more

I wanted to check out this service based on reviews of his work at farmers markets and was happy to learn he does same-day drop off/pick up service. Four of my kitchen knives came back duller than when I dropped them off. He kindly offered to re-work them and somehow they came back duller again, like they weren't touched. Like crush a tomato dull. I can run a nked finger across them and not be cut. He said the knives are old...sure, but I've had them sharpened successfully a year ago, they come back razor sharp. We don't abuse them. No nicks, no bends. I hit them with our home sharpener for a few minutes and they got sharp. He was very easy to communicate with, and prices are good, but I was really disappointed based on my expectations from all the good reviews. I'm still confused why they couldn't get sharp. Really bummed. read more

David's been sharpening our knives for years. First at the Encino Farmer's Market and now he comes to our home in Encino. He does really amazing work and our knives are wonderfully sharp! He also sharpens our scissors, gardening clippers and shears. He's always very prompt, friendly and a pleasure to work with. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs knife sharpening services. read more

Great job and fast! I think my knives took like 2 days to get back. I love supporting a small operation. Will be back! read more

Thanks for giving my knives a new lease on life. David was very responsive, professional, friendly, and quick with service. My only request is a some kind of way to pay other than the preferred method of cash. I understand fees are a pain for credit cards, but it would certainly be my ideal payment method to avoid atm usage. I would certainly be willing to pay more to cover the charge just for the convenience read more

David has been sharpening my knives for years. Fair prices and does a great job every time.

David is a total pro. Drop off and pickup were extremely easy, and my knives were ready within a few hours. We're very pleased with the quality of work, especially for the great price. If you're in the LA area and need knives sharpened, do yourself a favor and pay David a visit. read more

I've used David's sharpening service at his home a few times and each time he responded quickly, the knives were sharpened perfectly and in a few hours....at a very reasonable price. Need a gift for that friend "who has everything"? Grab their knives, take them to David for his fast service and return their knives in a few hours! They'll thank you for your creative gift every time they use a knife! read more

David is FANTASTIC! This was my first time using a knife sharpening service and I am so glad I chose Sharper Edge. I emailed David the night before I planned on dropping off my knives to get more information on how everything works with his contact free drop-off, and he responded within an hour with instructions on how to drop them off at his home work station. I had David sharpen 3 chef knives for me and he texted me 45 minutes after drop off stating the knives were ready for pickup. Super fast turnaround time. His prices are super fair and well worth it. The quality of work is amazing and all three knives were sharpened to perfection! Since this was my first time using a knife sharpening service, I naturally wasn't comfortable giving my expensive/valuable knives for sharpening. Two of the three knives I gave for sharpening were in pretty bad shape (nicks/chips), and David made them better than new. Having seen the quality of work David puts into sharpening knives, I now feel comfortable handing over my more expensive knives for sharpening when the time comes. I highly recommend David for your sharpening needs. I hope that I can watch him work his magic when this pandemic is over. read more

I brought a full set of Henckels kitchen knives to the Sherman Oaks Farmer's Market and they completed the sharpening in less than 30 minutes! Very reasonable price, less than $60 for ten knives...will be a return customer! read more

I hadn't had my knives sharpened in about 10 years. Sharper Edge has a 0 contact process that really worked well for me. I was able to drop the knives off, and within 3 hours I was texted that they were ready for pick up. The price point, timeframe, and service all worked great for me. Highly recommend. read more

I can't say enough great things about Sharper Edge. Went to the home workshop today for the first time and David took care of me immediately. The work was so impressive and he gave me some good advice about my knives as well. He has a drop off location and let's you know the price as soon as you drop the knives off. I am a home cook, and I am so happy with how the knives are performing. Sharper Edge is where you want to go for all your sharpening needs. Thank you David!!! read more

David is the absolute Best! He is an expert at his craft. I use my sashimi knives for Catering large events, and he always sharpens my knives (Japanese & German) in such a high quality and skillful way that they stay very sharp for a very long time. He is also a true gentleman who makes the Studio City Farmers Market worth visiting alone! Highly Recommend! read more

Sharper Edge - David Golombeck holds a sharp knife in his workshop. - Knife Sharpening Near Me

David from Sharper Edge is the absolute best! I've taken my Shun and Globe knives to many Knife sharpeners. The difference is David is a true CRAFTSMAN. He saved my Shun Chef's knife. It had fallen into the garbage disposal. I thought, oh, here we go, I'll need to buy a new Knife. Not with Sharper Edge. David fixed my knife like new and saved me hundreds of dollars. He is very reasonable, comes to your home and is also at the Studio City and Pasadena Farmers' Markets. David is the real deal. He can sharpen anything including tools and hunting knives. Bonus, he's a really nice guy. read more

Really easy to work with. Work was quick and cost was reasonable. I'll be using David again.

Dropped off six high end Japanese knives. Done in one day and again as sharp as when first made

I've had my knives sharpened by David several times and it's such an easy process with great results. This morning, I texted David that I'll drop off five knives in the morning and by noon, he let me know that they were ready. Very affordable and conveniently located. read more

I kept missing Dave at the Studio City Farmer's market...then COVID-19 hit. Here I am, cooking at home more frequently than ever, with dull knives. Something had to be done! I reached out to Dave via e-mail, he got back to me right away. He explained that I could drop my knives off at his home workshop and already had a very easy contact-free drop off (and pick up) system in place. They were ready to pick up within an hour or so. Here I am, only a few hours after originally reaching out, preparing dinner with my newly sharpened knives. Dropping off knives at his workshop is so easy--if you are like me and kicking yourself for missing him at the market stop right now and schedule a drop off instead! read more

Same day service. I brought a bunch of knives and 5 pairs of scissors around 2:30 on Friday and he got them back to me by the end of the day. I paid cash but he accepts credit cards. David obviously knows his knives and taught me a thing or two and was nice to explain a few things to me. I also appreciated the link to the video of how to sharpen knives and that you are supposed to get them sharpened more often than you think. I would definitely take my shears to him anytime. read more

Took my go-to kitchen knife and a pocket knife in for some TLC, as they both had become quite dull. Pocket knife even had been dropped in the past, and was a bit flat on the point. Got both knives back by the end of the afternoon, and they are RAZOR sharp. Incredible service, fantastic quality, great prices... extremely happy to have found David! Will definitely be returning. read more

Totally amazing. I have two sets of over 20 year old Henkel kitchen knives that were in desperate need of new edges. I found David here on Yelp and couldn't be happier. His website was down so I just called him on a Saturday. He told me where he'd be that Sunday but I could just drop the knives off at his home workshop that day. I'm lucky in that he lives 5 mins from my house in Sherman Oaks. Normally you can drop off your knives with your info and he'll send you a quote. I was fortunate to catch him there and he said I could come back in an hour and they'd be ready but I asked if I could stay and watch him work, and he obliged. He is a total perfectionist and wouldn't quit till those old stubborn knives were razor sharp. It was fun chatting with him while he ripped through my six knives in about a half hour. Just call him and he'll text you what you need to drop off your knives or look for him at some local Farmer's markets. I will be recommending him to anyone I know who wants razor sharp knives. read more

Sharper Edge - David working his magic. - Knife Sharpening Near Me

I found David on Yelp and reading all the reviews, decided to get my knives sharpened by David. I was very happy with the service I received. I called to get a quote and he picked up instantly- which is usually rare. He also texted his details and was super friendly. I arrived and he was able to assist me right away and my knives were sharpened within 5 mins!! Definitely coming back! Highly recommend getting your knives sharpened by David! read more

[Correcting a long-standing error - the Sharper Edge proprietor is 'Dave'...not 'John'!] Look Sharp! As numerous others have mentioned, Dave's work is superb and the prices, eminently fair. Previously, I had tried a gourmet cooks' retailer (epic fail: they scratched and ultimately replaced several of our Shuns) and an independent hardware store that subbed the work out (adequate, but about 70% more than Dave). Dave is extremely gracious and accommodating, eager to explain his methods and demonstrate the process. Dave will sharpen anything with an edge (e.g. serrated knives, scissors) and turn it around swiftly. Seriously: look no further. read more

David is fantastic. Not only did my knives come back in great shape but he was kind, prompt and easy to deal with. Super fast. Super sharp :) read more

My two favorite knives had taken a beating and after four years of use and abuse I brought them to John. I assumed I would drop them off and have to pick them up in a week or so but to my surprise, he happily sharpened them while I waited. While he only charges $6.00 for each large knife, I was embarrassed to open my wallet and realize that I didn't have enough to cover the cost. John was nice enough to let me take my knives and gave me his card so that I could send him my payment. (I live close by and decided to drop off cash the next day because of his generosity and excellent service.) If your neighborhood has enough interest, John can even arrange to come to your home and take care of your and your neighbors' sharpening needs. How's that for convenient? On his website, John also posts a schedule of various Southern California Farmer's Markets in which he can be found. read more

Excellent service, super fast and friendly. My knives are super sharp. Thank you so much.

It had been far, far too long since I'd had any of my knives sharpened, and even my spare set had dulled. So I dropped them off in a bundle to David this afternoon, and not two hours later I had a text message saying they were ready. Got to have a lovely chat with the man himself when I picked them up -- always nice to meet another Brit here in LA -- and the knives are fantastically sharp. I'll definitely be back! read more

John is awesome!!!!! I'm a professional chef and take pride in keeping my knives sharp. Recently my wife gave me a beautiful Japanese knife for my birthday. This knife was the envy of my kitchen until I, foolishly, broke it's tip. I was crushed, but determined to fix it. I worked on it for a couple of days and got a tip back on, but i just wasn't completely satisfied with it. I knew it could be better, ( I'm a professional chef, not a pro knife sharpener) but i knew I needed a professional to help me out. After going online and researching some pro knife sharpeners, I came across John from Sharper Edge. I contacted him and he told me to stop by his work shop. As soon as I walked up I knew i called the right person for the job. Just talking to him I could feel his passion for his craft. He took a look at my knife and commended me on the work that I had done on it, then game planned as to what he was going to do to get it to where I wanted to be. John cleaned the tip and then went ahead and put a ridiculously sharp edge on my knife. I was giddy and can't wait to start using it again, but I could've stayed there and chatted with John for hours, he truly knows what he's doing and is willing to share his knowledge. I wish I could give more than just 5 stars thank you John. read more
