Very quick and good work. I got mine done in about 15 minutes or so. $15 to get my dull 8" Chef's knife sharpened. But for those of you thinking of using him that haven't before, this is a home address. Therefore, call or use the scheduler on Yelp before you go over since he may or may not be in at the time and his schedule varies (I caught him at a free moment). Also you might be confused because the more obvious addresses that you see from the street are 809B, 809C. But where there should be 809A, it's just 809. It's on the ground floor. I took 5 pocket knives and 5 kitchen knives to Haik to sharpen. The pocket knives were all in good condition but were just used and abused for years and needed a good sharpen. Its worth noting that this is NOT A STOREFRONT. Haik runs it out of what I assume is his home. Just call in advance to arrange a time to be there, and you're GOOD2GO. I found it on my Yelp app on my mobile phone and that wasn't readily apparent. The address was near my work so I swung by in the morning, and was confused to be on a residential street. I called and he wasn't at home, but arranged a time for me to return. I dropped off 5 knives and he said he could have them done the next day. I said two days was fine, but happened to be back in the area the next day and checked, he had already sharpened the knives. He sharpened 5 knives quickly and really professionally. I was in Germany last month and I found an amazing Hubertus Lever Lock Shell Puller.. I brought it back with me to the states but it needed a good sharpening. I grew up in a home that used heavy mid-level rough-and-tumble German stainless steel kitchen knives that could go in dishwashers. So when I discovered the wonders of Japanese steel and got a set of Shun Classics, I didn't realize they required a completely different maintenance culture of cleaning AND drying immediately after every use, so they got washed and left on a towel to dry themselves several times early on. Ooops, big mistake, this is like forgetting to change the oil on your Ferrari for several years. Withing a few weeks all of my Shuns had corrosion staining and pitting and shortly thereafter the pitting on the cutting edges turned into chips in the blade. I was very annoyed with myself after dropping several hundred $$ on the knives. So I called Shun, who will sharpen them for free, BUT, you have to pay to ship them to Oregon AND you have to wait at least 4 WEEKS to get them back, WHAT!? So I Googled and found Haik (Stay Sharp) in Glendale, and he did a damn fine job on my set of 3 Classic Shun blades, all of which require a 16 degree double bevel edge. I brought him a dulled and beat up 8-inch chef's knife, a 6-inch utility knife with pitting and several chips on the cutting edge, and a 3.5-inch paring knife also with pitting/staining and chips in the cutting edge and a broken tip, and he gave them back to me the same day, all with pristine factory edges, reshaped tips, and all for a gentlemen's price.
