My chef knife was in serious need of a sharpening. I had a couple small chips on the knife and it just needed some love. I stumbled upon Steven's YouTube channel about a month ago. I was really impressed by his passion and commitment to his knife sharpening business. I had a day off so I was able to drop off my knife to him in Sierra Madre where he sets up on Fridays from 10am to about 2 PM I believe. My knife was done in about 20 minutes and it looks and cuts great! Thank you Steven. You are a Pro. read more

Our Japanese cleaver had a nick and was previously sharpened somewhere else, but still felt off. Been following Steven on IG and noticed that he's very knowledgeable when it comes to the details of knives, especially Japanese knives. Decided to stop by his booth while he was in San Gabriel in front of Howie's market. He was done in 30 min! Super efficient and super happy with his skills. Thank you! Will definitely be coming back to him for our future needs! His schedule and locations are posted on his website for easy walk in or text him. He will also post updates on his Instagram. read more

The amount of copium this dude exhibits in each of his replies to negative reviews is palpable. He called me a bunch of times on instagram to 'hear me out' but instead cut me off to yell at me 'his understanding' of the situation. I hung up. I later scheduled a call back with him, he missed my call and now he attempts to control the narrative to protect his fragile ego. He fucked up my chef's deba and I made it right by replacing it, something Steven here should've known to do himself. He's a poor sharpener, based on his lack of progress in the craft since I first used him years ago to grind down some bolsters. He sharpened a single beveled knife at 90 degrees and left a plateau where an edge should be. The fact that a professional sharpener would hand that back as being 'complete' and taking money for the work is.... Embarrassing. I left all the editorials out until I read his response. The facts are this: he destroyed a deba that belonged to a chef client of mine. When I asked him to correct the work, he refused. I ended up covering the cost of replacing the knife. $250. My grinder is in storage so I had Steven do grind work that I would then finish and polish by hand. He gave me... not what you'd call a working knife back and charged me for the pleasure. He never made it right. read more

I brought in a variety of 6 knives for Steven to sharpen. He was incredibly quick and efficient. He estimated about a 20-30 minute wait time but finished much faster. I had questions about knives in general and was happy to learn that he actually sells them too! He was so patient and was kind enough to inform me on brands and types of knives he recommends and why. If you're thinking about trying his services, I highly recommend it! I will definitely be returning. Thank you Steven! read more

Steven is awesome! I bought my mom's knives to sharpen at 12:45pm and got it back at 3pm same day. He is super nice and the process was simple. The knives are super sharp and my mom is a happy gal! I'm a big supporter of small businesses and Steven's place is no exception. I really enjoyed our brief chat and it was also only $8 to sharpen each knife. Highly recommend everyone to come here! :) read more

Steven did a great job with my knives! I'm comfortable maintaining mine, but still like to defer to a pro once a year. I also find my local pop-up site to be very convenient/accessible (that is, parking at a grocery store is a lot easier than a farmers market, in my view). I agree with one of Steven's social posts: The paper cutting test is fun but has limitations (thin tomato slices are a great measure); I'm glad to see on his other posts that he has a tool to objectively measure sharpness. Art and science! read more

As a chef who has worked private events to commercial kitchens, my knives are used to their full extent. I've had chips and dents from who knows what. I have gotten my knives sharpened at countless places from DTLA to specialty shops but, this place takes the cake. Many places have turned down kitchen scissors, meat cleavers and serrated knives but Steven did it all. He even helped me fix some chips and dents on a knife I was contemplating on letting go! The price was reasonable and he was quick with sharpening my 8 knives within less than an hour ( looked like he had quite a lot of knives to sharpen after I dropped mine off so time varies). Overall, I'd highly recommend his service. I had a mix of workhorse knives like 8" Mercers to 6-8" Würsthofs. All were sharpened well and none chipped. I'll surely be a returning customer. read more

Steven. is the man. Great customer service and WAYYY better than the local competitor in Burbank. miles ahead. Steven has the full set up while the others are playing with a simple grinder anyone can buy from Lowe's. On top of that, he's got a tomato at the end of the line to ensure that blade is ready for your slicing and dicing needs. I always do a paper slice test and it always passes. happy to support his local business and forward him to the community. get this man the keys to Burbank, STAT. oh, did I mention the price point?? can't beat it. Thanks again Steven, see you in 6 months read more

I gave Steven a full set of Tsunami Japanese VG10 Damascus knives only to have them returned in a less than ideal condition. By less than ideal I mean nearly ruined. Was charged $110 for the work and when I inquired about some additional fixups I was snubbed to say the least. F*** this clown. read more

Excellent service with a fast turnaround time when visiting in person! I do not have any experience with the mail-in service, but I've been using this service for a few months as I don't have the time to sharpen my knives by hand. Ultra fast and reasonably priced - thanks for the job well done Steven, I'll definitely be back!

I texted Steven on a Thursday with a special request to drop off in Burbank and pick up next day at his sierra Madre location. Immediately within 5 minutes I got a response saying it was no problem at all. Fast forward to the drop off - I was pleasantly surprised when Steven said he'd be able to get it done in 5-10 minutes if I could stick around. Normally a lot of places require several days lead time, so I was definitely taken aback by this (his website says typical times are 1-2 hours). Knives came out super sharp - won't hesitate to use his services again soon! read more
