UPDATE: used Sidney for their mail in cuticle nipper sharpening service. It's hard to find someone that will sharpen these small tools. I didn't realize it was the same company I already used in this review. LIGHTNING FAST service. I found them online & clicked through to order nipper/tweezer sharpening for $5 per utensil. Sent out my stuff & got it back beautifully sharpened in less than a week. I sent out my 'good' nippers & a couple cheapies that I had. He sharpened them all but left a note to only buy stainless steel tools since any sharpening of the cheapie non-stainless tools would leave them vulnerable to rust. Next time I'll just send my good tools & toss the cheapies. This time I figured why not, I'll have backups. Anyhow - highly recommend. read more

I was VERY pleased with the end results after taking my knives to Sidney today for sharpening and repair. He was extremely knowledgeable and professional. High quality workmanship and service overall. Would definitely refer him to other friends and associates. Very pleasurable experience overall. read more

This is one of those old world skills that no matter how advanced we become as a society we still desperately need. Sidney is friendly, polite, more than affordable and skilled at what he does. You forget what a sharp knife is supposed to handle and feel like until someone does it for you correctly. 10 knives and a pair of shears was a thirty minute wait and affordable. Like very affordable. He will give you directions but just keep in mind he's at the end of a long driveway before you hit an electric gate. Park in the shade of the giant eucalyptus and enjoy the quiet and the horses while he works. read more

I've been looking for a place to sharpen my cuticle nippers for a while, but couldn't find anywhere near where I live and I really didn't want to mail them out for service, completely due to lack of patience in waiting for their return. After a long search, I found Sidney's and was very pleased with the price and the free return shipping. I sent out 5 pairs of cuticle nippers that desperately needed some real tlc on a Wednesday and I got them back by Saturday. Very impressed and satisfied with the service after doing my mani/pedi quickly and cleanly with the newly sharpened tools. Will most definitely send them anything that need to be sharpened in the future. read more

sidney is as honest as the day is long. brought no less than 10 knives from my food truck that needed sharpening badly after daily use. went to his place in sunland and sidney was 100% safe in this post-COVID world. he had on an N95 respirator and made sure to get information on what the knives were used for. took all of 10-15 minutes while i waited and sidney only charged me $15. way too low! i insisted on paying more and he acquiesced and begrudgingly took $20 total. which is too low! i will keep coming back. the work and service are perfect. read more

Ken did an amazing job in sharpening all three shears and he also fixed them since my husband had used them for household use that they were 90 degree cut but Ken went out of his way to make them 45 degree cut. He is wonderful and helpful and very precise and took his time to do the work within that hour. I really recommend him. I got all my three shears done for $30 and he was wonderful in giving me a free shear pouch read more

In a world gone mad, Sidney is a calming, pragmatic, and comforting presence. You should find something to sharpen just for the chance to meet him, take a few minutes to enjoy the fresh foothill air, and watch the horses and peacocks while he works. I had been looking all over LA for a scissor sharpener, all of them were either: 1) closed, 2) only sharpening knives, or 3) national chains offering drop-off services every few months. If you've found Sidney's Expert Sharpening, then you can stop looking. Sewing scissors, stylist scissors, whatever specialty scissors you have, he has the tools and the expertise to restore them to a factory edge (or better!) His rates are WAY TOO reasonable, and he is so humble, so please round up whatever he charges you! He's a one-man operation, and he works from a shed outside his home, so please call ahead to set up an appointment. You will get so much more than a new life for your scissors, you may gain a new perspective on life. Many thanks, Sidney! You are truly one-of-a-kind! read more

Sidney is an master blade sharpener and an expert when it comes to sharpening all types of blades. He uses state of the art, water cooled disk machine and will put a razor edge on your blade in a matter of minutes. He repaired and sharpened a set of shears for me as well as my everyday pocket knife. Used to be you could take your knives and scissors to the butcher and they'd do it for you, but those days are gone. At least, I couldn't find anyone in my neighborhood. Expert Sharpeners comes to your house and sharpens your knives and scissors in your driveway. Sidney has a workshop in the back of his van. He was done in about half an hour (approx. 10-15 knives and scissors) and everything came back to me good as new. He is also highly affordable. Personality-wise, he's a sweet old guy who does this as a hobby. This is why I love LA - a guy comes to your house to sharpen your knives. How awesome is that? Sidney is a very rude, UN-accommodating RACIST who ONLY provides service to a certain group of people/ communities while refusing service to all others. Then to add insult to injury, he won't make recommendations either. I even offered to drive to him because I really needed to get my six pairs of sewing shears sharpened to complete my very important project. He still refused. He actually told me "I NEVER drive (get this) East of the 110 fwy & South of the 10 fwy. Completely disappointed, frustrated and angry because it was a Saturday and I couldn't find another business opened, I turned to what IS tried and true "Youtube". Just so happened I had the sharpening stone and the recommended 3-In-One-Oil and it worked like a charm. So Thank You Sydney "The Racist". read more
