This is a quaint little place within the amazing outlets at traverse mountain. I have not eaten here as i am not a great burger fan but they do make some really cool milkshakes with malt in them , that just elevates the taste of the milkshake. They have a 80s look inside the restaurant with coke ads from even further back like possibly from 60s-70s adorning their walls. The staff are busy and courteous but there is really nothing unique about the food itself from a glance at their menu or in reading the reviews i could find online and hence nothing really stood out as far the restaurant goes to me. This is a good place to grab a quick bite if one were out of time but needed to find a place to finish lunch or dinner quickly and that is just my preference as maybe there are people who love this restaurant as perceptions can differ. I would give this restaurant a 3 star. read more

We decided to try Johnny rockets for takeout even though a friend told us it wasn't good.. we both ordered burgers and tots and while they did mess up the order (both were given regular fries vs the cheese tots and chili tots we ordered) but the burgers were actually good- seemed fresh, good amount of fresh veggies and not at all greasy (unlike 5guys). If you are into Americana aesthetics, this is a nice, pretty looking, decent place to be with a large group or just two of you in a nice booth where you can feel like you are invited to Peggie Sue got married. However, do not expect to be fully satisfied with a greasy burger (unless you are into greasy with no substance) with tasteless buns (the one on the bottom was very wet!) and badly assembled. My only complaint was it was so cold there I couldn't take off my winter coat, however, the food was good and hot. The burgers were made to order, and if you order the meal you get unlimited fries. One thing you must try there are the shakes. The chocolate shakes was creamy, full of chocolate, and thick enough to eat with a spoon. We did not have high expectations for this restaurant due to the yelp ratings. However we actually found Johnny rockets to be good enough for a return visit. The service was fast and friendly despite the place being pretty crowded on the Saturday before Christmas. The kids got kids meals and enjoyed them. I got the black bean burger. The only other place I have tried this burger is at Chili's and it was way better at Johnny Rockets. The only thing is the burgers are a la carte so fries are not included and are extra. We stopped at Johnny Rockets for a quick lunch and should have known better. Despite the service being friendly and quick the food was mediocre. I had a patty melt and my wife ordered a hamburger. The burgers were not very good with dry hamburger patties and poor quality toppings. The fries didn't taste fresh and were undercooked and mushy. My wife's Oreo shake was good but it's pretty hard for anyplace to mess up a shake. If you want a burger I'd suggest skipping Johnny Rockets and going to the nearby JCW's instead. I was extremely unimpressed with my visit tonight. I went in with my grandma tonight to get a shake to go. The hostess seemed a little confused or irked about us not being seated and doing a to-go order instead. The young man at the counter taking our order was extremely confused about the whole process. He wasn't sure how to take the order or when to have us pay. He was getting all mixed up with his math and with the change we were owed. I asked for a chocolate shake with Oreo added, which apparently made it a "Deluxe" shake and cost extra. It took several minutes for them to make the shake, and I'm not sure why as this was probably the most expensive, worst shake I've ever had. It was $5.69. It had NO OREO even though we paid extra for it. And I've been sipping up ICE CHUNKS the entire time. It even broke my straw so that I had to wait to get home to use a bigger straw to be able to suck up the ice chunks. On top of that, it just tastes like freezer burned vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup added to it. I could have made a better shake at home or gotten a better one in a drive-thru for half the price. This review is about their Vegan burger (They call this The Streamliner). This is because I just happened to be in this restaurant and wanted something healthy (Yeah right!). In the description in the menu, they mentioned this is an award winning burger. Wow, an award winning Vegan burger - so tempting right? But I did not know what is so good about this burger. The patty was almost tasteless and the whole burger experience was overwhelmed by the mustard taste. Too much mustard. Never had a strawberry Oreo shake and loved it! Great service and amazing ambiance! It feels like a 50s diner... I'm not old enough to know that, but I can imagine it's close. He was awesome with my kids. 5/5 service I will say we were the first group of the day to use or table and it hadn't been wiped off from the night before. I really like how they decorate the place to make you feel like you were back to the 50s, especially the juke boxes, they were so adorable! I've got Route 66 Burger with cheese fries, and Cookies n Creme Mike Shake. My friend ordered Smoked House Single Burger with regular fries, and Chocolate Mike Shake. The service was quick, we didn't wait long for our food. Route 66 was ok, it had everything I like, however, the burger was a bit overcooked and it came out dry and hard. As for the fries, I really don't recommend you upgrade to cheese fries. It's not what I expected it would be. Just stick to regular fries! My family and I went here to eat. There was 6 people sitting in normal seats and a child sitting in a highchair, and I have twins that are 4 months old. I had them in a double stroller sleeping, they told me that we could not have the double stroller by the table and it needed to be placed by the exit door... Why would I put my stroller with my sleeping 4 month olds by the exit door when we are sitting across the restaurant. At the table we were at there was 3 chairs on each side of the table and one chair at the end We asked if we could move the chair at the end and push the stroller in. They told me that we couldn't do that and the stroller had to go by the door. We didn't eat there. That is ridiculous that a place would not be able to accommodate us. I went to Johnny Rockets for a great time with friends. I was expecting to enjoy a retro 1950-1960s ambiance with great food and the classic unlimited fries. Inwas severly disappointed with what I got instead. Instead of a classic retro feel, I got a run of the mill burger place. Took my daughter here for our daddy daughter date last night. It was our first time sitting up at the bar top right up close to where the employees were working. The service was prompt and friendly. As I sat there, after we had been served, I had the pleasure of watching staff eat off patron's meals prior to the going out to the tables. I spoke to the manager and I told him I realized this probably happened in the restaurant industry more than anyone wants to admit, but with an open kitchen it was really bad. They are about on par now with pricing, except with Johnny Rockets you get a better bun and better quality toppings. Also, sweet potato fries. Oh my. Also take note. You get soft-serve blended into a shake (hydrogenated vegetable oil, sugar and milk solids) at JCW. Johnny Rockets is one of the few places that uses real, high quality ice cream. Very happy with our visit tonight. I'm only giving it four stars because the food was a bit cold, I'd love real cutlery (plastic?!?!), and the hostess looked surprised at our group size. Appearance: When I arrived at Johnny Rocket's it had that old school feel which seems to be exactly what they were aiming for. Old posters on the walls, classic 50's style decor. Service: I was promptly greeted when I arrived, the store was probably 75% full, no line when I arrived at mid afternoon (ie about 4PM) on Friday. They seemed rather chaotic, but friendly. I overheard several of the servers talking about an issue with their CO2 and I had ordered a rootbeer. Needless to say as nice as my server was he didn't say a word about the carbonation issue and simply gave me a flat rootbeer. So on one hand everyone was friendly but a flat soda is certainly not a positive on the service side. Now on to the critical part, the food... Fries - These are thicker than the average fry these days, but had no real flavor. If you are ordering the fries I would suggest at the very least using some Catchup to go with them. I would say fries were at best average. The previous poster was also correct in stating that they were fairly stingy with the fries. Burger - I ordered their "Smoke House Double", which is the only really positive part of the experience. The hamburger was hot and juicy with good flavor. The bacon was crisp and well flavored, the onion rings were crisp and subtly flavored and it wasn't overloaded with BBQ sauce. Overall I would say the cost is high, the burger was actually decent, but the rest of the experience left a bit to be desired. The location is new and certainly they are still getting things organized based on my experience, but I think even once they settle down it still probably won't be worth going back. In my opinion you can think of Johnny Rocket's as a slightly improved version of Carl's Jr. But for half the cost I think I would prefer Carl's Jr which has better fries, soda with carbonation, and a burger that while not quite as good, is close enough. read more

Nothing was exceptional that we couldn't get anywhere else and burgers were left to be desired. You're better off going to Dee's for $10+ less. They have a very limited selection of food and nothing you order comes with fries as a side so it's an added cost. One of the females working with the food had long hair tied up but didn't have a hair net on.
