I stopped by Johnny Doughnuts early this month when I was in the area with a friend. It was a little hard to find the storefront because I am not originally from this area. Just as a FYI, it is pretty much right next to the Starbucks! When we arrived, there was a line of about 3 people ahead of us at 11:30am, but it did go by pretty quickly. We got a powdered donut with jelly and a cronut. The powdered donut was soft and airy. There was a fairly good amount of jelly in the donut. The regular cronut was deliciousness covered with granulated sugar. Though both had a good amount of extra sweetness, it was not too overpowering. The two donuts costs a total of $11.20. It was a tad steep for only two donuts. I do also think they do not have much competition (other donut shops) nearby, which could explain the costs (or the area alone). Still my go-to doughnut shop when I'm driving through this side of the Bay Area. I went after lunch and a lot of my faves were already gone! *sad face* So plan wisely if you're trying to get, let's say, a Crodough (a must try!). I'm not going to lie... I don't buy the hype around this place. They try to be hip and retro at the same time, but nothing else about the place fits that description. The doughnuts are far from the classic, light, fluffy doughnut you had as a child. They've completely missed the ball on what constitutes a great doughnut. These things are cakey, heavy as heck, and will have your stomach hurting before you can even get through half. The toppings (frosting, etc) are skimpy and more for decoration and eye-appeal than anything else. There is zero difference between eating one of these things fresh or stale... it's all the same experience. And the best part is -- they're $8 a pop! We have allergies in the family's I didn't get any seasonal flavors nor did I catch the cronut but my options were solid! I went to Johnny Doughnuts last month when I was in the Larkspur area. I took an early morning SoulCycle class and this place is located in the same plaza. Johnny Doughnuts is a walk-up shop. They have a few picnic benches outside where you can enjoy your food. I got one of their blueberry cake donuts and an espresso. (Customer experience during Covid-19 Pandemic) The Johnny Doughnuts brick and mortar in Larkspur's Marin Country Mart is conveniently located with easy parking. We ordered at their walk up window and got what I consider basic: an old-fashioned vanilla doughnut and a cup of coffee. I originally wanted to try their crodough but they come filled only, and I didn't want a filled doughnut. First of all, they are exponentially better than your average doughnut shop. Our doughnut was warm and fresh, the crumb was very soft and delicious. The glaze was just right, not too much to overpower, and complemented the cakey goodness. The coffee was good, better than expected. They have outdoor seating available. The staff is friendly, courteous and PATIENT especially when I couldn't make up my mind and ended up deferring to what my husband wanted. Highly recommended. My friends and I stopped at this outlet in Larkspur and decided to get a donut -- we got there right as they were closing. I saw the people behind the counter sliding the donuts off the trays into a trash can. 50+ leftover donuts from the day were being thrown away. We knocked and signalled from the takeout window (that was closed) that we would like to buy the donuts so we can give them away to someone who might enjoy or need them. The people at the counter just ignored us for 5 minutes straight, and sniggered to themselves inside. One of them opened the window an inch and asked us to leave, saying that they won't sell us the donuts. We were all just really upset by the amount of food waste that they were generating.
