My quest for the best oyster happy hours in NYC brought me here on a sunny winter afternoon. John Doe is a corner establishment with ample seating, screens lined up for premium sports viewing and a menu that is hard to beat. Their commitment to $1oysters all day everyday is nothing short of impressive and I'm totally here for it. After indulging in a ritualistic post-travel Sunday body massage, I popped in here and was not disappointed at all. The bartender was warm and kind. I got myself a pint of the blueberry ale which was delicious and fragrant, and ordered two dozen oysters to down. When the waiter came out with the oysters I was absolutely shocked. These oysters were HUGE and meaty and briny, sweet and succulent and everything an oyster should be. They come with a very nice mignonette, cocktail sauce and thick, juicy lemon wedges as well as a pack of oyster crackers. I scarfed down these bad boys like my life depended on it as the buffalo bills played in the background. I bet this spot is so nice to sit outside in the summer as the view of the empire state really seals in the quintessential NYC dining experience. If you are looking to satisfy that oyster itch, you have to come here and check this place out. 10/10 recommended!!

After a 30 mile hike from the Javits Center my boy brought me here because he says this place has the best happy hour deals. I was impressed with the aesthetics and the ambiance of this place. The service and the burger itself were absolutely amazing! And this place had outdoor seating for when the weather gets warmer. When the person brought out that classy bottle of water I knew this place couldn't disappoint. Definitely give this place a go if your in the city. Hopefully next time i get to enjoy the happy hour specials.

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for a quick drink with some friends. Had no issues getting a spot right at the bar and woman behind the taps was not only funny, but very helpful and attentive and is really the reason I liked the place so much! The place has great drink specials for happy hour, and besides the price they are also well made. I ordered the Grumpy Old Man, which for any old fashioned enjoyed I think will be delighted with what they get, although it's a little on the sweeter side. Didn't get the chance to try the food, but I sure was tempted with everyone ordering around us what seemed like really some good classic pub food. If I'm ever around the area, I'm definitely inclined to come back and try more.

The oysters were okay for $1. Not the best unless you like Virginia oysters. Got one oyster that basically had nothing on it. It was laughable. Service is meh. Hostess is nice! Beef sliders were dry. Burger was nice. Soda was flat. Ambience is cool.

Did someone say $1 oysters! In this economy that's practically unheard of! Plus I don't think they have a cap. AND they also have daily specials on the weekdays. We went for Taco & Tequila Tuesday. $8 for 3 mini tacos! What!! This place just has it all: AMAZING prices, food and wonderful service. The staff were so sweet and attentive, even though it was busy. And let me tell you they were BUSY! We ordered: A lot of oysters Crispy Fish Taco Chipotle Chicken Taco Savory Beef Taco BBQ Pulled Pork Taco (All the tacos were topped with guacamole, pico de gallo & sour cream ) Chicken Wings (they have quite a few flavors to choose from) Irish Spice Bag Definitely check it out! I know I'm going back!

I heard about this place and it just so happened I wasn't working far so I stopped here after work to see what the hype was about for the $1 Oyster Happy Hr. I'm an oyster lover and I love finding a deal so I can indulge and I was really excited because you usually don't find a happy hour that last this long in NYC. I ordered a couple of drinks too Mezcal Margaritas, which were really good. I really don't have any complaints, aside from when I was a little disappointed because my waitress forgot to let me know that the drinks I ordered weren't on happy hour, but aside from that it was a good vibe. I ordered about .2 dozen oysters and they were amazing and I ordered some fries that were really good. Overall the service was also very friendly and I enjoyed the outdoor seating. I'll be back soon.

Emma is the kind of bartender that makes you forget you came for a drink..because you end up staying for her. She's got that rare mix of professionalism, personality, and precision that sets the tone for the whole bar. Whether she's crafting a cocktail to perfection or remembering your drink before you even say it, she makes you feel like you're the only one in the room. Her energy lights up John Doe bar ..warm, confident, and effortlessly cool. The drinks are great, but Emma is the reason they feel better. She doesn't just serve..she curates an experience. If every bar had an Emma behind it, the world would be a much happier place.

WE ARE SOOOO COMING BACK HERE. I am so happy we found this gem. We were in Flatiron at 9 pm on a Saturday night, long after traditional happy hours. In a desperate bid to satisfy my craving for oysters tonight, I looked up "cheap oysters". A 10 minute walk took us to John Doe. Guys. The website is not lying. Oysters are $1 each, all day everyday. This place closes at 4 AM?? EVERYDAY??? It sounded too good to be true, but I promise you it is. It is. Ok well, the only thing is you're required to order a drink and buy a minimum of 6 oysters. But whatever that's not hard at all. I enjoyed a nice beer with my 18 oysters. It was actually so good. I love oysters. I loved this place too. It was surprisingly not extremely crowded or loud or overwhelming. Don't get me wrong- there were tons of people and the music was booming. Great, great music. I'm 21 btw. Music made me wanna shimmy my body with my oysters in hand. I didn't have any issues talking and being able to hear from across the table. Energy inside this place was impeccable. I'm still riding the high of finding this amazing spot. I wouldn't worry about being able to be seated at a table inside, or calling ahead for reservations, or none of that. Just walk in and expect the friendliest waiters and yummy cheap oysters. I'm so happy. 10000/10 stars from me. I oysters. My boyfriend's review: As a first time oyster eater they were a very solid intro to oysters. The presentation was nice and the hot sauce on the oysters was delicious. They went great with my beer. Holy W.

Food: I came here on a Wednesday evening and the service was great. We started off with two cocktails each and some oysters. I liked the oysters and then we ordered two espresso martini glasses and shared a penne vodka pasta. The pasta was tasty and Al dente. The ambiance felt fun with cheerful Christmas music. It was a busy evening for a Wednesday night.

Got the happy hour ipa which was 6$, my friends each got happy hour well drinks for 7$. We sat outside, it's finally warming up and it was cute outside. We ordered 12 oysters which were pretty good, and we had some garlic and herb wings as well because it was wing Wednesday. Wings were $1.5 and the oysters $1 each. We also got the truffle fries and calamari. The fries were really yummy, for the price I thought the portions would be a bit larger but they were delicious. Very garlicky and oily so if you're not into that I would steer clear of the fries. Overall good experience, nice staff and good happy hour deal!

This is your typical pub that stays open until 4am as we stopped by for a late night drink. Most drinks and cocktails were around $15 each. The music was blasting 90's R&B and hip hop, which I enjoyed though. Nothing great, nothing bad really.

Both failed epically. The bone marrow was inedible as it was like cold custard. Escargot had zero flavor and a real lack of garlic and good butter. Tasted more like vegetable oil than good butter. We shared the lobster pasta entree. Tasted more like Mexican goulash. No Italian flavors to be found in the sauce. Never once did the nameless waiter stop and inquire about our meal. Just all around a poor experience and a disappointing Friday night. There are far better places that appreciate your patronage. We will not be coming back. Not worth it.

Ambiance: This place has a nice ambiance, definitely very "New York" -- dark (you can't see how dirty the floor is) and loud music (maybe too loud). We sat upstairs (we had a reservation) and of all the people on the top there was a party of 4 (us), a party of 8 (all dudes celebrating something) and the rest of the tables were on a DATE - which I thought was funny. Service: We were served by Ann-Marie who was so delightful. She was kind, super nice, and took the time to speak to us (which is basically how we figured out she wasn't a native New York City person). She gave us good food suggestions and we were very happy with our selection. Food: Here is what we ordered * Steak Frites: My two boys got the steak frites and I have to say the steak was awesome! I had a bite of each of theirs and they each ordered it differently (one Medium Rare/Medium and one Medium) and they both were prepared PERFECTLY. The fries were overflowing. * Caeser Salad with Salmon: My wife got the salad with Salmon (they only have a few salad options) and she enjoyed it. * Prawn and Crab Risotto: I got this and I have to say it was VERY bland. I wouldn't get this if you are looking for taste. I had to put salt and pepper on it to make it have any semblance of taste. Value/Price: I would say this is not over priced but it is not cheap either...bill is attached. I would recommend it to folks who are looking for a good place to either go out on a date or a family type meal.

The buttermilk tenders is supposed to come with pickled shallots and marinated green beans. We didn't get the pickled shallots or the marinated green beans, which was a shame. The chicken tenders by themselves didn't have much flavor. It also is unfortunate paying $17 for what was considered a small plate and just getting the chicken tenders. The Asian-sesame wings were okay. Also, didn't have much flavor and weren't that impressive. There was also still hair on some of the pieces of chicken, so the chicken could have been cleaned better. They have fries and hand cut fries. The regular fries were soggy. Should have went with the hand cut fries. The tater tots were okay. I was told that the chicken sandwich was good. The hostess was welcoming, our waitress was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, and the support staff kept everything running smoothly throughout the evening. We took several of our server's recommendations and were happy with every one. What we ordered: * Butter Service Garni * Dressed Big Rock Oysters * Yellowtail Crudo * Filet Mignon with Pommes Purée * Nutella Opéra Cake Everything was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly, the pommes purée were rich and incredibly smooth, and the Nutella Opéra Cake was the perfect way to end the meal. The only thing I'd mention is that the restrooms are located down a fairly long flight of stairs. If you're wearing heels, have a stroller, or have mobility limitations, it's something to be aware of. Overall, this was a fantastic experience with excellent food, attentive service, and a beautiful atmosphere. I'd gladly return and would recommend Quality Bistro to anyone looking for an upscale French dining experience.

We started with the kale salad (although it seemed more like spinach than kale), and it was still fresh and delicious. The tomato burrata was outstanding--definitely a must-order! I had the steak frites, which was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the French onion burger, and after trying a bite, I already know that's what I'll be ordering next time--it was incredible! The cocktails were made perfectly, and to finish, we shared the lemon ice cream cake. It was light, refreshing, and not overly sweet--the perfect ending to a great meal. Everything from the food to the drinks and exceptional service made this a wonderful dining experience. We had such a great time and can't wait to come back. Highly recommend!

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I was lead to this great spot for a late dinner and cocktails on a Friday night. The hostess was really friendly and quicky sat us at a two seater near the bar, which we appreciated. The ambiance was light and friendly and they even had a DJ playing all the good jams! I think I danced a bit, (definitely liquid courage). The DJ read the room and created a fun ambiance. The waitress came over a few minutes later and quickly took our drink and meal order. We ordered the Tuna Crispy Rice ( Yum), Guinness Wager Sliders (Nom Nom), Korean Chicken Boas (My Favorite!) and Carnitas Tacos.....I'm embarrassed to admit that we cleaned our plates like a couple of savages. Bartley Dunnes is a great choice to come solo, meet up with friends or come as a group of no more than 4, unless you make a reservation. They have a second floor that I unfortunately didn't get a chance to check out, so I can't write about that. However, I did see people coming and going straight up. I'll be back!

They have a great happy hour running from open until 8 PM, including $6 beers and $8 cocktails, which is a great deal for the area. ordered the Bartleys Spritz (Aperol Spritz) and a Tequila Mule. We sat at the bar, which runs about half the length of the space, and there were also plenty of tables throughout. The back section of the bar feels a bit separated from the main entrance area. There are some TVs throughout, and everything inside seemed fairly new and well maintained. It was not very crowded on a Tuesday early evening, so service was quick and the staff was very friendly. We did not order food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot for happy hour drinks in the MoMA/Midtown West area.
