John Devoy's has some of the biggest oysters I've had for the price, we got the $1 happy hour oysters before 7pm so if you're strictly going for oysters, it's worth checking out. That said, be prepared for a lot of terms and conditions that aren't very obvious upfront. We had read some Yelp reviews beforehand and saw people mentioning there were conditions, but we should've read them more carefully because we missed a lot of the details. Looking back, the reviews were right. What was frustrating is that the waitress never showed or explained the terms and conditions card before seating us. We didn't even notice the card until after we were already seated and had ordered drinks and oysters. As we kept ordering, it felt like a new rule kept coming up: * You have to buy a drink. * Once the table orders more than 24 oysters, you have to order an entrée. * They only let you order one dozen oysters at a time for the table. * We also couldn't sit at an open 2-person table because it was "reserved," even though it stayed empty for almost 50 minutes. The waitress was nice overall, and tried to help us out since theres a bit of surprises with terms and conditions, which made the experience less enjoyable. Bottom line: the oysters are --big, fresh, and a great value. Just make sure you read the Yelp reviews carefully and ask to see the terms and conditions before you order so there aren't any surprises. read more

Sister and I went here after watching a comedy show at The Gramercy Theater. The bartender was new but was very kind and helpful. We started off with a cocktail each, I ordered a kettle one with seltzer with a slice of fruit and my sister ordered a Hennessy sidecar. I enjoyed my drink, however my sister's drink wasn't correct, so I walked back to bar, and I explained that something was off. The bartender asked what would she like instead, I asked for a Hennessy on the rocks with a lemon. Bong!!! Figured out what the issue was with the drink, it was FAKE HENNESSY. SMH! We didn't let that spoil our night! We ordered chicken fingers, beef sliders and fries. But no more drinks! read more

John Devoy bar and restaurant is a new Irish restaurant addition in the Park Avenue neighborhood. Upon checking in, we were seated at a high table for two, which is located at the front of the restaurant after the bar, but regular dining tables are available at the back of the restaurant as well. We came here for Sunday brunch and took advantage of their 60-minute unlimited cocktails of mimosa, Bloody Mary, and John Devoy's lager or ale. For our entree, I selected the hangover burger, which is a tower burger consisting of bacon, onion rings, a fried egg, and served with French fries, while my partner chose eggs Benedict. Both dishes are flavorful. We were impressed with the presentation and the portion sizes. With good value and friendly customer service, we will definitely come back here to try their dinner menu. read more

Came after work on a Friday 6pm, space isn't too big and it's a pretty loud bar, but nice drinks, affordable prices, long happy hour 11-7pm and fresh $1 oysters! To get the oysters you do have to order a drink, but they are fresh even though it's not oyster season. Beef nachos were good as well, a great happy hour place for sure but fills up quickly with the limited space. read more

Came here for the $1 oysters but didn't end up getting any because of all the rules they have in place. First of all, one side of the sign says "Raw $1 Oysters, All Day, Every Day." Flip it over, though, and you'll find all the terms and conditions for getting the oysters. They're not actually $1 all day. They're $1 until 7 PM, then $1.50 each. You must also order drinks for the entire initial party size, even if one person is just joining for the vibes and offers to leave after sitting for 10 minutes. You still need to order a drink for that person. I understand the food requirement and have no issue with that, but the drink requirement felt excessive. Even after one person said they would leave, the waitress told us we still needed to order the same number of drinks as the original party size. That's a little ridiculous. I even asked the waitress how much the oysters would cost if we didn't order the drinks. I was willing to pay a higher price since all we wanted was food and oysters. She said they don't allow that and that we needed to order drinks for everyone. Nowhere on their website are these rules listed. The site simply says: "Raw Bar, Oysters $1, available 7 days a week, minimum of 6 per order." If we had known about these requirements beforehand, we wouldn't have come. There are other oyster bars that don't have these conditions attached to ordering oysters. I actually felt bad for the waitress. She was trying her best to accommodate us but unfortunately couldn't serve us the oysters. Please update your website or be more transparent about these rules. This is the greatest little bar / restaurant in the area. Have been coming here since it opened. The staff is always warm and friendly. And the food selection is amazing. This lil cozy bar was a delightful little gem on a snowy, crappy January day. But then we added Feeny and things got even better. Feeny is not the only reason to come here for brunch, but she's the #1 reason to. Amazing music, funny stories, super attentive to our drink levels, brunch has never been more delightful. We celebrated a baptismal party in the upstairs room. Roisin was terrific to work with. we selected the menu and we asked her to arrange for flowers and balloons. she did not disappoint. the room was lovely and the food was delicious . The sliders were a big hit, as were the egg rolls. Roisin tended the bar and looked after everything, including taking pictures. if you are looking for a place with ambiance', food, and excellent service, John DeVoy is your place. if Roisin can host, it's even better. read more

I live in the neighborhood yet had never been to John Devoy's. Was walking past and of course noticed the $1.00 oysters. Settled into a nice table and ordered a dozen oysters...and their side of their $6.00 mashed potatoes. I know, a strange meal but it was ridiculously good. I asked the superb waiter if they had gravy on the side and he said he'd ask. He returned and said that they could make gravy for me...and that's what they did. The chef literally made it from scratch. And it was literally the best gravy I've ever had and transformed the mashed. The oysters were great, and the presentation was perfect, on a huge platter of ice, two oyster forks, two lemon wedges, some Tabasco, cocktail sauce, and some sort of green sauce. It was absolutely superlative. John Devoy's is beautiful inside. Great atmosphere. And plenty of TVs for sports. Even better, they have the volume completely muted. read more

This is the typical Irish Bar and Restaurant. It's homey and cozy and the staff is super friendly. Alicia, the owner is awesome and loves to know the customers by name. This places gives the Cheers vibe- where everybody knows your name. It's off the charts awesome. Drinks are good, food is good and service is great. This bar is the best new addition to Park Ave South / Flatiron in years! My husband and I stumbled in by chance for a quick bite to eat, and we fell in love. The food and atmosphere were awesome, and our bartender ended up showing us their private little bar upstairs. We just hosted a birthday party for my family there at the weekend and it was top notch.
