After a 30 mile hike from the Javits Center my boy brought me here because he says this place has the best happy hour deals. I was impressed with the aesthetics and the ambiance of this place. The service and the burger itself were absolutely amazing! And this place had outdoor seating for when the weather gets warmer. When the person brought out that classy bottle of water I knew this place couldn't disappoint. Definitely give this place a go if your in the city. Hopefully next time i get to enjoy the happy hour specials.

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for a quick drink with some friends. Had no issues getting a spot right at the bar and woman behind the taps was not only funny, but very helpful and attentive and is really the reason I liked the place so much! The place has great drink specials for happy hour, and besides the price they are also well made. I ordered the Grumpy Old Man, which for any old fashioned enjoyed I think will be delighted with what they get, although it's a little on the sweeter side. Didn't get the chance to try the food, but I sure was tempted with everyone ordering around us what seemed like really some good classic pub food. If I'm ever around the area, I'm definitely inclined to come back and try more.

The oysters were okay for $1. Not the best unless you like Virginia oysters. Got one oyster that basically had nothing on it. It was laughable. Service is meh. Hostess is nice! Beef sliders were dry. Burger was nice. Soda was flat. Ambience is cool.

Did someone say $1 oysters! In this economy that's practically unheard of! Plus I don't think they have a cap. AND they also have daily specials on the weekdays. We went for Taco & Tequila Tuesday. $8 for 3 mini tacos! What!! This place just has it all: AMAZING prices, food and wonderful service. The staff were so sweet and attentive, even though it was busy. And let me tell you they were BUSY! We ordered: A lot of oysters Crispy Fish Taco Chipotle Chicken Taco Savory Beef Taco BBQ Pulled Pork Taco (All the tacos were topped with guacamole, pico de gallo & sour cream ) Chicken Wings (they have quite a few flavors to choose from) Irish Spice Bag Definitely check it out! I know I'm going back!

I heard about this place and it just so happened I wasn't working far so I stopped here after work to see what the hype was about for the $1 Oyster Happy Hr. I'm an oyster lover and I love finding a deal so I can indulge and I was really excited because you usually don't find a happy hour that last this long in NYC. I ordered a couple of drinks too Mezcal Margaritas, which were really good. I really don't have any complaints, aside from when I was a little disappointed because my waitress forgot to let me know that the drinks I ordered weren't on happy hour, but aside from that it was a good vibe. I ordered about .2 dozen oysters and they were amazing and I ordered some fries that were really good. Overall the service was also very friendly and I enjoyed the outdoor seating. I'll be back soon.

Emma is the kind of bartender that makes you forget you came for a drink..because you end up staying for her. She's got that rare mix of professionalism, personality, and precision that sets the tone for the whole bar. Whether she's crafting a cocktail to perfection or remembering your drink before you even say it, she makes you feel like you're the only one in the room. Her energy lights up John Doe bar ..warm, confident, and effortlessly cool. The drinks are great, but Emma is the reason they feel better. She doesn't just serve..she curates an experience. If every bar had an Emma behind it, the world would be a much happier place.

Everything went excellently! Had Tacos, Margaritas, and Oh man the BBQ wings were absolutely delicious. I definitely will go back, and soon .

WE ARE SOOOO COMING BACK HERE. I am so happy we found this gem. We were in Flatiron at 9 pm on a Saturday night, long after traditional happy hours. In a desperate bid to satisfy my craving for oysters tonight, I looked up "cheap oysters". A 10 minute walk took us to John Doe. Guys. The website is not lying. Oysters are $1 each, all day everyday. This place closes at 4 AM?? EVERYDAY??? It sounded too good to be true, but I promise you it is. It is. Ok well, the only thing is you're required to order a drink and buy a minimum of 6 oysters. But whatever that's not hard at all. I enjoyed a nice beer with my 18 oysters. It was actually so good. I love oysters. I loved this place too. It was surprisingly not extremely crowded or loud or overwhelming. Don't get me wrong- there were tons of people and the music was booming. Great, great music. I'm 21 btw. Music made me wanna shimmy my body with my oysters in hand. I didn't have any issues talking and being able to hear from across the table. Energy inside this place was impeccable. I'm still riding the high of finding this amazing spot. I wouldn't worry about being able to be seated at a table inside, or calling ahead for reservations, or none of that. Just walk in and expect the friendliest waiters and yummy cheap oysters. I'm so happy. 10000/10 stars from me. I oysters. My boyfriend's review: As a first time oyster eater they were a very solid intro to oysters. The presentation was nice and the hot sauce on the oysters was delicious. They went great with my beer. Holy W.

Food: I came here on a Wednesday evening and the service was great. We started off with two cocktails each and some oysters. I liked the oysters and then we ordered two espresso martini glasses and shared a penne vodka pasta. The pasta was tasty and Al dente. The ambiance felt fun with cheerful Christmas music. It was a busy evening for a Wednesday night.

This is your typical pub that stays open until 4am as we stopped by for a late night drink. Most drinks and cocktails were around $15 each. The music was blasting 90's R&B and hip hop, which I enjoyed though. Nothing great, nothing bad really.

Awesome Atmosphere & Great Staff! I had an amazing time at John Doe!!! The atmosphere was cool & vibey! with great ppl The staff was friendly, attentive, and made some top-notch recommendations. Shouts out To Amanda, Joshua ! The vibe was perfect for a fun night out with friends or a relaxed evening w/ a hot date. I'm a regular and ALWAYS gotta show love to my John Doe peeps! Highly recommend!

Got the happy hour ipa which was 6$, my friends each got happy hour well drinks for 7$. We sat outside, it's finally warming up and it was cute outside. We ordered 12 oysters which were pretty good, and we had some garlic and herb wings as well because it was wing Wednesday. Wings were $1.5 and the oysters $1 each. We also got the truffle fries and calamari. The fries were really yummy, for the price I thought the portions would be a bit larger but they were delicious. Very garlicky and oily so if you're not into that I would steer clear of the fries. Overall good experience, nice staff and good happy hour deal!

Both failed epically. The bone marrow was inedible as it was like cold custard. Escargot had zero flavor and a real lack of garlic and good butter. Tasted more like vegetable oil than good butter. We shared the lobster pasta entree. Tasted more like Mexican goulash. No Italian flavors to be found in the sauce. Never once did the nameless waiter stop and inquire about our meal. Just all around a poor experience and a disappointing Friday night. There are far better places that appreciate your patronage. We will not be coming back. Not worth it.

I've heard "Lunch at The Modern" so many times, one thing I was absolutely going to do during this…read moretrip to NYC was lunch at The Modern, and I'm so glad I did. Located at MoMA, The Modern is a 2 Michelin star restaurant hosting both fine dining, showcasing Chef Thomas Allan's cuisine, and a more casual dining experience in The Bar Room. The restaurant is gorgeous and has a giant glass wall overlooking MoMA's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, a lovely view. There is an abridged tasting menu of 3 courses, but we opted for the full chef's menu cause we didn't want to miss their signature "eggs on eggs on eggs" and after the supplemental charge, the price was close enough. - Hiramasa and sugar snap peas/crispy ham and cheese--simple and delicious, with the hiramasa being light and fresh and the ham and cheese providing a deeply savory contrast - Chilled lobster, shiso, and green radish--the lobster was cold and sweet but as a personal preference, I don't really enjoy bitter flavors and the slice of lemon under the radish threw it off a bit - Eggs on eggs on eggs--words cannot adequately describe the unctuousness of this dish, it's like eating rich, buttery velvet on a crispy, fluffy log of brioche. As a bonus, they bring you an extra toast to mop up all the tasty bits - Pumpkin seed sourdough and cultured butter--okay I totally didn't know this was meant to be eaten with the next dish so given total lack of self control in the face of pillowy fresh bread and perhaps the smoothest butter on the planet, I may or may not have eaten it all before the trout showed up... they were nice enough to give us more :') - Sea trout with clams and saffron shellfish broth--the fish was cooked to literal perfection and the clam and saffron sauce enhanced everything even more. This fights with the chicken dish for spot #2 in my favorites of this meal - Heritage chicken, provençal asparagus, vin jaune--this reminds me of the stuffed chicken from Per Se and was cooked just as well. The vin jaune sauce was slightly nutty with an incredibly rich flavor and also went well with the bread - Lamb saddle, romanesco, and lemon poached dates--for some reason I thought the chicken was the final savory course and I did not pace myself at all and was so full by this point. The lamb was tender and the date was a wonderful bite though - Wild strawberries and cacao--I can't remember what was all in this but I loved the little wild strawberries as they were like delicious strawberry gummies - Dark chocolate cremeux, meyer lemon, and espresso--delicious with interesting flavors, I haven't had many lemon, chocolate, and coffee combinations - Mignardises of raspberry, lemon coconut, cherry cheesecake--only one I tried was the cherry cheesecake bonbon but my husband ate 'em all so they must've been good lol The MVP of this meal was the melon lemonade mocktail, made with honeydew, jasmine, and pandan. Might be the most perfect drink for me ever made because it was melony with a subtle floral note from the pandan and jasmine, and only lightly sweet and tart, everything I love. Sooooo good! Service was pretty good up until we wanted to pay, and for some reason it became really difficult to find someone to close us out. We waited almost 20 minutes between the mignardises and finally being able to pay, even actively looking around trying to flag someone down. Despite The Modern not being the most innovative of meals, it's easily one of my all time favorites. I definitely prefer food that's executed well over food that's pushing boundaries, and may be back any time I'm in town.

Hands down the best restaurant experience my wife and I have ever had…read more We wanted to treat ourselves for our anniversary, and I had recently watched their Bon Appétit behind-the-scenes video. Their entire operation seemed so incredibly focused, meticulous, and inspiring that we knew we had to try it. We started with the Iberico ham and the hiramasa tart, both incredible. Then came the chilled lobster, which was super fresh and refreshing, served with an amazing sauce that made me want to lick the plate clean. Every dish felt refined without being overly complicated. The service was extraordinary. You can immediately tell the front-of-house team is operating at an extremely high level and is aware of everything happening in the room at all times. At one point, my wife stepped away to use the restroom just as they were about to serve the first course. Without saying a word or making anything awkward, the staff simply looped around a couple of times until she returned. The moment she sat down, they resumed service seamlessly without missing a beat. That level of awareness and professionalism really stood out to us. Next came the rye bread, which was fresh and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, paired with delicious butter. Then we had the sea bass with crab, which was phenomenal and one of my favorite dishes of the night. But the true star of the show for me was the lamb. My wife and I grill lamb racks often, and I genuinely had no idea this level of perfection existed. It was cooked flawlessly, and the sauce was absolutely incredible. If I was not in public, I probably would have been scraping the bone clean :) Big shoutout to one of the staff members, Stephanie, who completely made our night. We were telling her how excited we were to finally visit after watching the Bon Appétit video, and she casually asked if we wanted a tour of the kitchen after dinner. Honestly, I thought she was joking at first. Then she came back after dessert and reminded us. Even after paying the bill, I still thought maybe she was kidding, but then she walked over smiling and said, "Let's go." My wife and I were completely geeked out. Seeing the kitchen in person was surreal. It was exactly like the video: super meticulous, orders being called out and repeated in unison, everyone moving with total precision and purpose. You could see the Omega clock, the Michelin stars on the wall, and just the overall culture of excellence behind everything they do. We were honestly in awe. Thank you again, Stephanie. That experience meant so much to us. Every time we visit a fine dining restaurant for a special occasion, I always wonder whether it will truly live up to the hype. Some completely miss the mark. Some are very good. But none have delivered on every aspect the way The Modern did. This is officially our favorite restaurant in the world.
