On the hunt for gluten-free food led me to Joey's Kitchen in Whaler's Village. I had looked at Joey's online menu and was excited to see what items could be prepared gluten free. I drove over and asked the guy behind the counter what items I could eat that were gluten free. He said I could have tofu and veggies without soy sauce, kalua pig and cabbage, kale salad, fish tacos, and rice noodles with coconut curry sauce and tofu as an option. I asked what about the garlic chicken? (I had seen it could be prepared gluten free online). He said it's prepared in a shared fryer so not really gluten free. Well, I'm glad that he was aware of cross contamination but disappointed that I got my hopes up thinking I could have things like wagyu loco moco, or short ribs. or garlic chicken... I ordered the rice noodles with the curry sauce and tofu. I took it to go and it was nice and hot. The curry had a nice heat and flavor. It tasted like my favorite curry sauce from Whole Foods. (I'm not saying there's is from a jar, just that it reminded me of that). The tofu was grilled and didn't have any flavor other than the curry. Overall, it was good, but I ate it all. The portion for $19 is about what is expected nowadays. They are knowledgeable about what is gluten free but there aren't a lot of options if you're celiac or have a gluten-sensitivity. We came to this spot in whalers village while waiting to check into our room. Food tastes local and authentic. I was a little sad they were out of the garlic shrimp but the loco moco did not disappoint. You order your food at the counter and find a seat in the open food court, once the food is ready, they bring it to your table. Next time I'll be sure to try the lumpia. read more

Stopped in for breakfast, saw that everyone was waiting in line for Vintage Island Coffee. Do yourself a favor and walk to the food court and grab breakfast here (or honestly any of the places that aren't the Island Coffee place, seemed overrated). Joey's was awesome, I'm Filipino so I'm a little biased, but toc-silog was legit! Hubs got the local burrito, also amazing. And super affordable for this area on this island. Was waiting for my table at Monkeypod and wanted a snack, so shared the ahi poke bowl here. Pretty good poke. It's a shoyu ahi, very well seasoned, topped with limu, and sweet onions. Joey's Kitchen is conveniently located in Whaler's Village--right near the Westin Resort and Spa Ka'anapali. We had a great breakfast--which we could eat at tables outside the restaurant, but we opted to take our food to outdoor seating on the beach at our hotel (2 minutes away), the Westin. We had the banana pancakes with coconut syrup (you can have maple syrup, too)--but we loved the tropical flavor of the pancakes with bananas and coconut syrup. The seating is the one thing that is not my fav but it is what it is. We got lucky and got seating. I ordered the kalbi short ribs 5 stars for this one, flavor and the way they cooked it was perfect to me! The fish and chips was mahi mahi I think. It was light and yummy. The boneless short ribs was over cooked and dry looks better that it taste in the mouth. The crispy pork could have used alittle more time in the over or drizzles hot oil on the skin... it was too light and didn't hit the spot like the kalbi. The lumpia was just okay too. Get the breakfast burrito! We ate here our first morning on Maui and it did not disappoint. I had the breakfast burrito and my husband had the local breakfast. Both were delicious and sooooo fresh. Located in the food court at Whalers Village, Joey's Kitchen serves local and Filipino dishes such as lumpia, garlic chicken, huli chicken, kalua pork, and loco moco. The prices are decent - on par with the rest of the island, and the portions are hearty. Order at the counter and then find yourself a seat. The food is served on paper plates, but there is an additional fee if you get your food in a to-go box instead. I find that strange considering that both are disposable products, but I guess it is because to-go containers are more expensive than paper plates. Joey's Kitchen has so much potential, but it also has its moments of inconsistencies. Sometimes, the food is amazing. Other times, the food is just average. I have had some really tasty garlic chicken and lumpia. I have also had pork belly chicharron that was too hard and fried brussel sprouts drenched in way too much sauce. Everything on the menu has the potential to be really delicious, but it really just depends on who is in the kitchen and what mood they are in. It is a gamble, but hopefully your visit is a jackpot instead of a bust. read more

Went for breakfast and it was decent. Ordered my eggs over hard but it was actually done over easy. Everything was good but it was definitely a lot of rice, and a tad salty. I'm not sure if that's what Hawaiian food is supposed to be but I couldn't finish my plate cause it was so salty. read more

This lovely Filipino restaurant is located in Whaler's village on the bottom floor. If you see Ono Gelato, take the stairs next to is and it's on the righthand side, inside the sliding door. The garlic chicken was recommended by Yelpers and it didn't disappoint. I'd say it would make a nice lunch if sharing it with someone else. It comes with mac salad and a scoop of rice. The fried rice uses sticky rice so it's very good and different from your normal Asian fried rice where either short grain or long grain is used. The pork adobo is nasty. I didn't take pictures of the food because we were starving, but let me tell you, it was pretty good. The adobe fried rice and chow fun were both pretty darn good. The short rib was super good. The BBQ sandwich was different - not bad but also not my favorite. Wish there was more seating inside the restaurant and also wish it opened a bit earlier. We had to get our food to go since we were told there was a line out the door when we called but when we picked up 20 minutes later there was no line and a couple open tables but at that point we had decided to take the food elsewhere. read more

The last time I was eating at the at the Whaler's Village food court I noticed a restaurant called - "Joey's Kitchen".......... I didn't get a chance to eat at Joey's, as I opted to eat Italian that day, but I remembered and bookmarked this place to try at a later time.......... This past Wednesday while I was working in Lahaina, I finally made my way back to the Whaler's Village food court and gave Joey's Kitchen a try. Upon walking up to the ordering counter, I looked over the wall menu, and decided to look for something of the lighter fare since I had eaten a MASSIVE Frrrrried Chicken lunch the other day (from Chi Chop). I ended up going with a Tofu Stir-Fry vegetables with white rice (sorry, they don't do brown rice here). What can I saw about the grub? I must say this dish was done spectacularly well! Very nice flavor to the Tofu Stir-Fry, as the marinade was delicious. They used a firm tofu, and they provided a nice balance of fresh vegetables with a scoop of rice. The portion of my meal was just right. Not too heavy, but just enough food to get me through the day without giving me any "Hawaiian Paralysis", while I try to drive to my next job on the island. Lol! Overall a pleasant dining experience, and I felt so lucky that there was a food court option in the fancy shamancy Kaanapali area! A staycation on the Westside was a perfect opportunity to give this place a try and we are so glad we did! It's located in the food court of Whaler's Village. The workers are really friendly. We got the kalua pork hash with eggs, garlic rice, and gravy. It was sooo good! The portion size was huge and everything tasted great. I especially liked the garlic rice! We also got the hulihuli chicken with potato mac salad and rice. It was authentic hulihuli chicken that was moist and tasty. Best Loco Moco in Maui!!! There. I said it. I had the "unfortunate"experience of embarking my loco moco hunt at Joeys, and sadly nothing came close. The element of surprise also hit me like a freight train since, to be honest, I didn't expect much to come out of this red cafeteria tray in Whaler's Village. Other places took it up a notch with fried rice, which is a delicious play on the basic loco moco... What did it, you say? What makes Joey's the king of the hill? The sauce! My gf and I had gotten the pork adobo, pancit with shrimp, and the pork/Shanghai lumpia. We weren't expecting the thick pancit noodles but it was still super delicious regardless! The pork adobo was flavored perfectly and idk what they put in the mac salad, but the flavor was AMAZING. I couldn't put my finger on the specific taste that was setting it apart from mac salad that other places serve, but man it was so good. The lumpia was juicy and came with a sweet chili sauce. The aunty working the register and taking our order was so kind and friendly. It's inside a little area with other eateries too on the right hand side when you walk in and because it's enclosed, it may get a little loud depending on how crowded it is, but I still liked it and thought it was a nice family-friendly environment. Definitely would fight for parking to come back, especially for the pork adobo :) read more

This time going for some recommendations from some locals we talked to. Did not disappoint, hence the updated review. Solid 3.5 The adobo fried rice and garlic chicken and yoooooo it broke da mout!!! I regretted coming to a food court in the lower level of a mall and spending $33 on 2 plate lunches, especially when the wait was pretty long with only 2 orders ahead of me, but the loco moco and kalua pork and cabbage were some of the best we've had. Joey's Kitchen is located in the Whaler's Village food court. 3.5 stars. Great to get some local and somewhat inexpensive grub here. The fancy, popular restaurants that line hotel row at Kaanapali can get too pricey. Sometimes you just want some "home cookin!" Things to try here: Garlic shrimp over rice - got this twice! I liked it better the first time I tried it. Is flavorful, but the 2nd time around, I think the chef was heavy handed in the sweet/sour sauce. If you like that, then you'll like this dish. I liked it better the first time when it seemed buttery and garlicky. Pancit - they use egg noodles not bihon (rice noodles). I prefer pancit bihon because that's how my Ma made it. But still give this a try. Adobo fried rice - this is also okay/good. I saw other pics of this dish. For some reason, ours wasn't as "dressed up." I would come here for breakfast - they have tosilog (I forgot to take a pic of that). I would recommend trying this place if you just want local food and tired of making reservations at the pricier restaurants. Depending on what you order, you might still shell out $16-20 a plate, but the portions are pretty good. read more

I think the food is good, I don't believe it is somewhere I would go to multiple times on my trip. The portions are good and there's lot of seating available.
