I was here on Monday the 13th of August. I had vision test. Then they fitted me for glasses and such. They also did a test to check out my eyes and found I had cataract in my right eye. So now I need to have Cataract Surgery to remove my Cataract. So today the 15th I made appointment to see a doctor to check out my right eye for surgery to remove my Cataract. Then I can go back too have my vision retested to see if I need glasses or not. The Doctor was very nice and everyone was very nice. So I will see what happens in the future. read more

Absolutely the poorest managed office in my 69 years I had one appt in February all was well...had another appt. scheduled this morning and the office staff could not, find my records and told me they no longer took my insurance however, after calling my members service they tried while i was on the line to straighten this out with NO results. unwilling to help. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Ackerman for over 4 years, he is always friendly and has a great sense of humor. The staff provides excellent customer service and the office is pristine. I do question how one of the ladies greats me, she tends to talk in slang, I'm not sure if that's how she talks or she is doing it because I'm black. I stopped in, to make an appointment, as I was looking for a doctor in the neighborhood. It was easy to get in, the gal at the front desk was very nice, and very helpful The (very) weird part, was when I was sitting in the dark, having my eyes tested, with Dr. Ackerman sitting very close, of course, and him telling me what a nice voice I had, what a sexy voice I had, over and over -- with his wife working in the office. I was extremely uncomfortable, and did not speak up, which I now regret. I don't believe any kind of medical professional, who has you in a vulnerable spot (chair, dark room, closed door) should be making any kind of comment like this. Nice clean place. If you like to wait. You can't have a convo with the doc because they play the music so loud, you miss 90% of what is being discussed. All designer frames, way expensive unless you have insurance that pays for most of it. Nice people that work there, doctor included. A 2 plus hour appointment for a simple eye exam. Dr. Ackerman and his staff are great! Have had some eye issues after surgery years ago. Been to other eye doctors that tried to force me into hard contacts, or gave me an incorrect prescription. I was really hesitant to try a new eye doctor - glad I did. Dr. Ackerman spent 1.5 hours with me trying to get my vision nailed down. Nobody has come close to spending that much time to try and get things right for me. He is personable, professional and not some uptight stiff. Office staff is very pleasant. With a significant change in my eyesight I was referred to Dr Ackerman. Upon arriving I checked in with a very nice young women and upon seeing the numerous options enticed in the eyeglasses display I began to wander and check them out. Upon doing so I was asked to take a seat and wait for my appointment, I was told that until I have a script I was not to wander in the glasses area. What am I going to do steal a pair of frames while I am being watched as I walk around. Maybe others are not insulted by that demand to take a seat but I was. On to the eye exam; after explaining the problems (plural) that I was experiencing with my eyes and completing the exam (there was not one view that resulted in a clear vision of the eyes being in focus ), I was told that my issues with depth perception and walking after dark with my glasses on, were self inflicted issues. In his words I needed to tell my brain to focus on the task and ignore any sensory action items, ie: when walking down stairs I was not to watch where my feet landed but focus out in front of me and not look down. I explained that I have never walked down stairs without looking down. "That is not how you are supposed to walk down stairs." was his response to me -REALLY not acceptable!!! Upon being told that my prescription was the same as 3 years ago and sent out to the eyeglass area I then was greeted by, in my opinion, over-priced frames and a overbearing office manager. Nothing under $400.00, although I was told they could make an exceptionally reduced price on a pair of last years model for $375.00, but it was the last pair and if I did not take these they most likely would not be here later. I then indicated I would discuss this with my spouse and asked for the script to take with me. You would have thought I was asking for her right leg, very unprofessional response to my request for my script - which I had to pay for before the exam and they did not accept any insurance plan. Suffice it to say, I will not be returning nor recommending this facility. read more

I trust Dr. Ackerman with my eye care. I have been going to him for almost ten years. However it is his office staff I am not happy with. Michelle had me try on some frames and I ordered them. When I went to pick them up I was in a hurry and they looked right. A few day later I realized they were not the same ones. When I went back to the office and ask Michelle if I could see the frames I had tried on because I did not think the ones I got were right she said "Oh I just sold those yesterday". If she was going to sell them why didn't she sell them to me? Then she told me she couldn't take these frames back because of Covid. Seems strange to me seeing how other stores are taking items back. I know I will continue to get my eyes checked with Dr Ackerman but will no longer get my lenses and frames there. read more

Last week, TriWest arranged an appointment for me with Dr Ackerman as a community provider for the VA as I am a disabled Vet. Upon arriving, the cursory paperwork was completed with the exception of my social security number. The office manager DEMANDED my SSN in spite of the fact that TriWest had provided them with a written approval letter (I saw it on the desk). Knowing I didn't have to provide my SSN, I phoned TriWest who confirmed that fact. TriWest offered to provide my member number to the office manager but her unwillingness to cooperate was a clear indication of their anti-Veteran position. For any veterans seeking Vision care through the VA, I do not recommend this provider. To say she was combative would be an understatement. The end result was no care was provided. read more

Dr. Ackerman is the nicest little man with so much knowledge and experience, I am so glad to have found a great eye doctor in phoenix. He is located in the same plaza as my kids pediatrician, so i thought it wouldnt hurt to stop by, boy was I glad i did. The staff were so kind and courteous, one of them i think her name is spelled Ina (black curly hair) was kind enough to call my insurance company and stay on the phone with them for over 45 min to see if it covered one of the procedures I needed. I met Dr. Ackerman for the first time today for an eye exam and contacts fitting. The staff is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt. Dr. Ackerman is not only very good at his work, he's also kind, thoughtful, and funny. It's almost a rarity to find a doctor's/provider's office that is "all of the things." This is that place. I recently moved here and had an incident that requires immediate eyecare. In desperation, I did a Google search and found that Dr. Ackerman was only 1/4 mile from my new home. I called and they were able to see me within an hour. I went to the appointment and he spent over an hour testing and examining my eye to verify what was wrong. He is patient and very thorough. I left with a prescription and within a day, the pain was gone and vision had returned. I have found my new eye doctor!! Highly recommend to everyone who needs a great doctor. read more

No insurance...I called for pricing.... they said $125 for the exam...when I got there, they said additional $75.00 for contact exam... Got ripped off. Glasses cost 800$ broke in one week.could not get my money back. Receptionist rude. They lied to me I took 3 hours off work to see doctor or talk to office manager . Neither were available when they made my appointment. Receptionist asked me to wait another 1 hour to see doctor and 3 hours to talk to office manager when I had an appointment. Took glasses to another place and found out that all that was in the top of the glasses was glass not a prescription that I paid for. read more

I have an unusual prescription that has stumped more than a few optometrists in the past. I was ready to give up after two national chains and two private optometrists failed to correct my vision. Not only did Dr. Ackerman get my prescription right, but more importantly, he took his time and was incredibly patient during the exam. He's genuinely concerned about his patients' eyesight and he goes above and beyond to ensure that the patient is satisfied. The doctor was excellent however his receptionist/front person needs some training in customer service not only did she not explain pricing and the pricing for the "add ons" but when my wife called to ask about some info for our insurance company the lady said "he's a big boy and knows what he wants and pricing". They also billed my insurance $753 for glasses that wer supposed to be $117 billed to my insurance! So if you want to know why Americas health care system is insane this is why companies like this trying to pull fast ones over our eyes. Wish I had gone somewhere else. read more

I chose to take my daughter to Dr. Ackerman because she is very young and we were considering contacts for her to wear for dance. I am a patient of his who "strayed" and went to see an optometrist at a store just for convenience sake. However, I knew I wanted to take my kids to see him for when the came for contacts. He's kind, funny, and welcoming when he sees you. No matter how long it's been since you've been in. After the exam my daughter was nervous about putting in the contacts and between him and the optician in his office they got her to try. They were both encouraging and reassuring to her and helped her relax. Ena, the optician there was fantastic as she encouraged Sofia and never made her feel bad for her apprehension. She was patient and funny and My daughter just loved her. I left smiling and high fiving her for being brave. Now my son is saying maybe he will give them a shot as long as I take him to see Dr. Ackerman! read more
