TLDR: Would come back here for the brunch items, but not the donuts. The good: wide assortment of flapjacks, waffles, omelette, breakfast sides and sandwiches, and burgers. Something for everyone! Ample parking lot AND a drive thru window! Satisfying portion sizes. The bad: if you snooze, you'll lose on the donut variety, so plan accordingly! I actually got up mid meal to purchase our donuts bc several customers came in between the time we arrived and the time we would've been ready for dessert. You can catch me snoozing at 6am, but not at donut o'clock! The ugly: the cream in the Boston cream donut used to be (atleast a couple years ago, at another location) reminiscent of a true vanilla, pastry cream or custard, but this Boston cream was an IMPOSTER! The cream inside was a slightly greasy, artificial tasting whipped topping that was atrocious. My 7yo rejected the French twist donut she picked bc it was a bit dried out and tasted nutty for some reason. The inevitable response to this review from Joe Donut's management is what people should pay attention to. I expect a rude reply like they've done to others. Look at how they have replied to others sharing their experience, which is exactly what reviews serve to accomplish. It will summarize this business in a nutshell perfectly. Here's my take on my one and only experience with this business. Long review but details matter! I walk in with my kids on a Saturday morning. They immediately latch their eyes on a couple donuts. As I'm ordering an iced coffee to go with it, my child starts saying "there's an ant", as she points at the donuts. Sure enough, there was an ant crawling on the tray of donuts. There's never just one ant, we all know that! To which the employee commented "oh yeah, look at that", and just left the donuts there. I tried to confirm that the donuts were going to be tossed out but that was indirectly acknowledged by the employee saying "well we get our donuts from a bakery and since it's the weekend we'd have to pull Sunday's donuts from the back room if I throw these away". I cannot confirm if the donuts that had an ant crawling on them were ever actually replaced. Either way, the kids didn't care so we got a couple donuts from the tray without ants on it and we take the coffee home for mommy. One swig of the coffee and mommy gets a mouthful of coffee grounds from the bottom of the cup. I return with a full coffee simply asking for a refund, which the employee could not offer and needed to take my info for the manager who was allegedly going to be in soon. No call Saturday, I return Sunday and the manager gets a bit snippy when I decline her offer of a replacement coffee. She doesn't seem to care that this is more about customer experience than the coffee or the $6 at this point. She blames their credit card system for the reason I cannot be issued a refund. The Business is closed on Monday. I stop back Tuesday and the employee takes my info just like Saturday's employee. Still no call from mgmt on Tuesday or Wednesday. I return on Thursday and the same employee is there. Very apologetic for something that's not even her fault. She calls the mgr, Sheila I believe, and is told to blame the credit card system again. The employee asked if she could just give a cash refund and was told no. Ironic timing as I stand there and see flies landing on the donuts. All of this extra exposure to a poorly managed business, simply because they're too stubborn to issue a refund. By the time I get home now after dealing with this for 5 days, Mt Prospect police call informing me that since I harassed employees they do not want this civil matter turning criminal if I return and the situation escalates so the business has asked that I no longer step foot on their property There was zero harassment of any employees in any way. The employee confirmed nothing further could be done by her and that's understandable but we agreed the situation is unacceptable in principle. I do not expect to ever get my refund at this point and the mgmt team seems to act like they don't owe me anything, which makes zero sense. I did not visit Joe Donut planning to give them a donation in exchange for a non-consumable drink. I have zero expectation to ever return to this business after this experience so I hope that their call to the police is not wrongfully interpreted as a successful restraining order against a reasonable customer. I wish this business all the best. Clearly there are local patrons who really enjoy their food and drinks. Unfortunately, my first experience was terrible and there will not be a 2nd experience, partly because I guess I'm banned from the property now and have no way to order food again without them calling the police and saying I am trespassing! :-) read more

This is basically a coffee shop with fancy donuts that also serves burgers and has a nice breakfast menu. Prices are good, everything was clean, and the staff was friendly. I ordered the Southern Lovin biscuit sandwich. I got a big fluffy biscuit, a huge piece of chicken, and delicious bacon perfectly crisped. I visited Joe Donut - Mt Prospect on a Saturday afternoon around 12 p.m. The place wasn't busy and there were many people working behind the counter, so it definitely had an energetic vibe. That said, the experience felt a little disorganized. The girl who rang me up seemed to be new. Everyone has to start somewhere, of course, but there was an overbearing manager (perhaps the owner) hovering nearby who didn't appear to be offering much actual guidance or training. The dynamic felt more tense than supportive, which was noticeable as a customer. As for the food, prices seemed a bit high for what you receive. The value didn't quite match the portion size. We ordered the Double Royal with Cheese, and it was about the size of a McDonald's double cheeseburger. It tasted fine, but for the price point $10, I expected something more substantial. We also ordered the $5 "hand-cut" fries, which were clearly pre-cut and frozen. That was disappointing, especially given the premium price point and the expectation set by the description. Overall, not a terrible stop, but between the pricing, portion size, and the uncomfortable front-counter dynamic, it didn't quite live up to expectations. So I've never actually been inside and I've only brought them home but, they are pretty good but I have a couple gripes with them. I understand that creative license is a big thing in food. But when there is a classic item that people are expecting to be a certain way and you mess with that, it doesn't go over well. At least not for me. Specifically I'm talking about their very loose interpretation of a Boston cream donut. I also love a good maple bacon donut but , they definitely need to cook the bacon for those donuts more. Both of these are in my pictures, so you can see what I'm talking about. Overall the variety and flavor of the donuts is pretty great, but I've also dealt with a lot of attitude from the staff. So I didn't appreciate that. As I said I haven't been in the actual location myself but to speak to the Ambiance at least the parking lot and that situation is not the greatest. It does look very clean from what I've seen, but there are other places I would go before here. That said if you're close by and craving a donut definitely worth a stop in. I was sorry to see that the Old Orchard location closed a while back, but then I noticed this one so it's even steven. No matter what happens, I am always about a 20-minute drive from three locations of Joe's Donuts. What a time to be alive! I saw a lot of blueberry fritters over the summer, but I'm keen for their apple, happily more available in the cold weather months. Joe's fritters are among the best in the land. The other doughnuts are outstanding as well. I've tried a couple of breakfast sandwiches too, and while tasty they lack balance, needing more moisture and/or a vegetable ingredient I think. In an area that is saturated with Dunkin' Donuts, it was nice to find something different. In a sit down, modern location, Joe donut is offering up some of the more progressive varieties in the area. Grabbed a half dozen including a maple bacon, red velvet, pistachio old fashioned, chocolate covered old fashioned, and sprinkles for the kids represents the most expensive donuts I've ever purchased coming in at $14. Looks like they also serve some traditional egg sandwiches and espresso drinks. First samples of the donut collection showed signs that some were not fresh baked that morning with the glaze crumbling off in chunks on the first bite and the cream cheese topping on the red velvet being oxidized. I've heard good reviews about the donuts from their other locations, mainly the Niles location. This location has a breakfast and lunch menu along with donuts! Walking in, you order at the counter (donut, breakfast, lunch, etc.). The place isn't too large, but it's pretty cozy and comfy. Hubby and I went around lunchtime and it wasn't busy. We took our menu to the table to look over before returning to the counter to order. He ordered a steak and egg sandwich on a ciabatta. They didn't have iced tea, but had bottled (Lipton) drinks in a cooler for him to buy. I ordered the Mom Jeans (chicken sausage egg scramble with avocado) and it came with a side of pancakes. I ordered a small cold brew. Hubs said his sandwich was tasty. My scramble was pretty good too. The pancakes were tasty served with sweetened whipped butter and syrup. The cold brew was ok. On our way out, we bought a dozen donuts. Some were good and some were a bit of a miss for us. The cake donuts were too dry for us and frosting fell off after our first bite of our donuts. Maybe it was an off batch? The guy working the front of the house was really nice and friendly. He cared about the business and we could tell he was either the manager or owner. He was doing the cleaning up of the area and brought our food out to us. The woman who took our order at the register and helped us with our donuts later never once smiled. She didn't seem like she wanted to be there and it was just awkward asking her questions. She wasn't emitting warm, friendly, or welcoming vibes at all! The breakfast and lunch part was good. I just got off the phone with someone at this I'm location. I don't even know if it was a manager or just another store worker because they didn't address themselves. I'm disappointed how they handled my situation which is why I'm writing this review. My husband and I used the drive thru to order a half dozen of donuts and coffee. We used the drive thru for the convenience and when they offer a drive thru we expect to receive the same the experience. We honestly haven't been to a Joe Donut location in a while so we were asking questions and switching out. The person helping us was nice and helpful. They gave us a wrong donut which was the specialty donut. The person I talked to adamantly believed we ordered the maple bacon which is not true because we would never order that in our lives. We wanted the apple fritter. We realized this as we got home on Chicago so we drove a long way and there was no way we would drive back. The person on the phone said we should have went inside instead of outside. I don't think that was the best way to go about solving the situation when there is a drive thru for a reason. They should close the drive thru if they can't correctly give away the orders. Nothing was done to accommodate this mistake so I wouldn't recommend anyone to come to this location. It would have been nice if they took my information down for the future to pick up a free donut or refund me the one donut, but nothing was given except to tell me to come inside next time. You would think we wou expect to receive better service than a more popular chain. As a law Enforcement Officer, I wouldn't recommend. I walked, and first wasn't greeted. I stood at the front desk for about 2 minutes (keep in mind the restaurant was empty with the owner sitting on a table). I think was asked for what I wanted and I asked for some donuts. After asking for donuts I asked if they offered a Law Enforcement Discount, because most places do. The employee asked the I assume owner ( a female with white hair) and she started questioning me about my employment with Law Enforcement. After this the cashier girl ( who was very nice by the way ) told me the price and even asked the lady again if she was changing the price for me, and the lady made a very disturbing face to me saying "absolutely not". Respectfully, as a law enforcement officer who serves the community this is the ultimate level of disrespect. I've always enjoyed coming here--the donuts have been good, and the service has been solid. However, this recent visit left me disappointed. I'm not sure if there's a new owner, but several changes made the experience much less enjoyable. First, they no longer offer the large donuts they used to have. The variety was minimal, and the donuts now resemble the smaller size you'd find at Dunkin', not the unique, oversized square ones that made this place stand out. They also no longer sell the signature Joe's Donut size boxes, which was disappointing. The biggest issue I had was with the gift card situation. Before placing my order (which included two dozen donuts and a sandwich), I told the staff member I'd be paying with a gift card. Only after everything was rung up was I told that they are no longer accepting gift cards because the system has been down "for a while." I asked what I was supposed to do with my card and was told I might be able to use it at other locations--basically confirming that they just aren't accepting them anymore at this one. I had to pay out of pocket unexpectedly, and it felt like that information should have been communicated up front. I've never had a bad experience here until now, but it seems like the quality and customer service are slipping. I don't plan on returning, except to try to resolve the gift card issue and request a refund. It's really a shame--I used to love coming here, but it's just not the same anymore. read more

Went here for the first time to try their sandwiches. I'm not a huge donut fan, so we didn't try any of those, but their brunch was excellent! I had the Gringo Spicy biscuit sandwich and my husband had the breakfast burrito. Both were delicious! The biscuit on my sandwich was amazing! So light and fluffy, it made the sandwich fall apart a bit but well worth it! Neither came with a side but none was needed, as they are very filling on their own. Coffee was great! Got the cold brew, black. Very smooth and tasty. They also offer nitro but were out when we were there. i was pretty impressed with the selection of doughnuts here! i had to try my favorite old fashion and i couldn't decide which flavor so i got all 3 available: lemon poppyseed, pistachio, and caramel. i thought they were pretty good but i've had better so i was slightly disappointed as i thought it could possibly be a closer drive to replace my favorite Do-rite ones from the city. i got the chicken sandwich because it looked huge in the pictures and it was definitely huge. i felt though the bread didn't taste that great and just something was lacking. it wasn't as flavorful as i thoguht it would be. i feel like they should have dressed up the coleslaw maybe a bit better. i did think the breakfast potatoes were so good... kind of like deep fried latkes. i will have to come back and try the biscuit sandwiches and hopefully up my stars! read more

I've been to other Joe Donuts and was so glad to see this one finally open! Came on a Sunday and it was pretty packed but they kept the line moving and they were bringing out orders at lightning speed. We came in just before 11 and were able to snag a table, but by the time we left it was pretty full. Food is amazing! I had the Joe Pothole which was a biscuit with melted American cheese, covered with gravy and chopped bacon, loads of breakfast potatoes and 2 eggs. It was so good! My favorite thing on the menu. Jeremy C got the Burnt cheese as a scramble, with the breakfast potatoes and a biscuit and he was also raving about how good it was. We got a Boston cream donut, which typically is my favorite flavor of donut, but it was not my favorite here. I love though how they have so many different fland unique flavors! An average breakfast spot. The donuts themselves didn't seem fresh, can't say they were any good or worth the money which is disappointing considering it's a donut shop. The breakfast meals we ordered were decent, nothing too special but can't complain either. I tried out the "biscuit #1" and my boyfriend tried the "sidecar" we added a side of the hash browns that were probably the best thing they have on the menu.
