Love Joan's! They have so many different options to choose from. They have breakfast, sandwiches, salads, and yummy drinks! Something for everyone. I typically like to get the salad trio. I get the kale salad, tuna salad, and couscous salad. These are my absolute favorites! The kale salad has a delicious balsamic like dressing with roasted peanuts and cranberries. If you love kale salads this one is for you! The tuna salad is very tasty with green onions, carrots, and light mayo? I believe. And lastly the couscous salad has pine nuts and cranberries as well! Came here for a breakfast, and there were a good amount of people already sitting in the tables outside! Grabbed a menu and kinda figured that I was gonna go for their: Scottish Smoked Salmon -- 17.00 with vine ripened tomatoes, cucumber, red onion and capers served with toasted bagel and cream cheese I also went and ordered a matcha tea as well. Grabbed a seat in what appeared to be a communal table inside (which was kinda nice). The food came out relatively quickly. The smoked salmon had a toasted bagel and cream cheese on one plate and all the fixins on the other. The ingredients (now that I look at it, there was a slice of lettuce on there - was that included cuz whoops I ate that too) were all pretty fresh but kinda hard since my mouth doesn't expand that big to fit all that food. Their smoked salmon wasn't extremely salty (yay) and was perfect to eat on ye bagel. The only reason why it's a 3 star because it was $17 and I don't really think that the plates justified that price. Their matcha latte wasn't sweet (yay) but held just a little of that matcha flavor on top. I think they do have raving reviews on other items, and they also had a grab and go and a counter full of cheese too... interesting. Service: 3/5 The outside bussing staff is incredibly friendly, so is the coffee bar staff, but as for the cashiers in charge of the food orders, my judgement about Joan's feels questioned. Stopped by for a quick lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Loved glancing at all their food items in their larder, picked up some frozen trays which I haven't baked yet. I had one of their yummy chocolate chip cookies which was yummy but there are better ones in LA. I had their Chinese chicken salad with grilled chicken which was perfect. It rivals chin chins or feast of the East. It comes in a huge mixing bowl which is hilarious. I was parched and asked to have my Arnold Palmer, but they said they would bring it immediately, but it took 5 mins. Very long line to order lunch - there is no indoor seating anymore and the outdoor seating was whatever is available. The menu looked very limited but I always order my favorites- the chinese chicken salad and the short rib sandwich. The Chinese chicken salad was $15.25 and the short rib sandwich was $15.95- I just realized that their prices are getting higher and the portions are getting smaller. The salad was pretty small and was pre-made. The dressing was a little runny, maybe because it sat out too long. Overall, the food was pretty good. The ordering system is very messed up. When you place your order, they take your name and you are suppose to check back in 20 minutes - huh? What happened to the numbers? The chicken is crispy and perfectly seasoned, the ciabatta bread is buttery and crispy, and the coleslaw and pickles are out of this world. My coworker and I came here for some lunch. It was a bit confusing when we got there because we didn't know there was no indoor dining. It was all to go orders only. We got a order form to mark what we wanted and there was a long line to place the orders. I was a bit disappointed to hear they only had sourdough and ciabatta bread for the sandwiches. Since I wanted to eat a bit healthier, I got the tri salad with green beans, tuna salad, and chicken salad. I also got the matcha latte with oat milk. I have hesitated on leaving this review for years now.... I have been going to Joan's since it opened, we would go every single day for years until we moved from the area. The food is excellent, always has been and I think always will be however the service - not so much. It is only the crew that has been there for a while that truly understand the meaning of customer service. The new crew are rude and act annoyed and irritated when taking your order and don't dare ask for anything extra, like a to go box for your extra food.... I asked that person and not only was she rude like the person I ordered from but she kept her back turned to me the entire time while she was packing other to go orders and handed me the wrong container. I gave up dealing with someone like that and also was being asked to move my car because a truck had arrived in the back. I give the food 5 stars, customer service a 1 out of five! read more

Wow!! Don't support this business. They refused to except cash for food from a friend who was previously homeless and has since gained his life back. He doesn't have a credit card to pay. He desperately wanted to buy lunch at Joan's on Third as he literally slept on the sidewalk next door. The cashier was kind and apologetic but said she couldn't take his money. Several other employees were standing nearby and voiced their displeasure that Joan won't take cash but said "We just work here. We don't make the rules." This is unacceptable. The line was confusing though in terms of who was there for sit-down dining vs waiting to order vs waiting to pick up. There are some items that I feel I like I could get other places for cheaper, such as their pancakes and their tuna and egg salad, but everything in there is good quality. The ambiance is always clean and curated and their staff is always nice and efficient. It does get busy during typical meal times, so you may have to sit pretty close to strangers if you want to sit inside, or just wait in the side lines for a while.
