I'm a homeowner who has had 12 years of seemingly nonstop home improvement projects going on at my home, both interior and exterior, so I have had plenty of experience dealing with contractors. I'm not a person who typically posts online reviews, but after having had the great fortune and pleasure to work with JM Construction on two projects at my home, I felt compelled to share my experience with other people. The first project was a water loss in my master bathroom, and my insurance company put me in contact with JM Construction. Ron Hart, the company's estimator, was nothing short of a godsend. He couldn't have been more professional and helpful, and he was expert at dealing with every detail of the repair project. When he first came to my house, I was in a bit of a panic because my insurance company was telling me that only a small portion of the water loss would be covered and that I would have to pay for most of the repairs myself. If I remember correctly, I was facing an out-of-pocket expense of around $25,000. Ron listened to my concerns and told me not to worry. The next thing I knew, he reported back to me that he had explained to the insurance company that the type of water damage we had was an insured loss and that they had agreed to cover the entire repair cost. (except for the policy's deductible, of course). The repairs began promptly and were completed within a reasonable amount of time and done beautifully, even down to finding marble tiles that matched the existing ones that were several years old. Anyone who has worked with natural stone knows how difficult that can be! All the people who were involved in the project --- from Ron and the project manager all the way down to the very nice woman who answers the phone --- were professional and very caring, and they took all of the burden and worry off my shoulders. I couldn't have been more pleased. This is why, when I decided to remodel my laundry room and guest bathroom a few years later, I immediately called Ron Hart at JM Construction and never even considered getting a bid from any other general contractor. We are about to start work on the laundry room, and I'm finding that the way this project is being handled is just as amazing as the earlier project. As I said, I'm not a person who typically sits down to write reviews, but these people deserve the accolades!!! My wife and I wanted to take this opportunity to publicly thank the team at JM Construction for the wonderful job done on the rebuild of our house after a fire took it down to the foundation and frame in late April 2013. It is not often one has to experience a catastrophic event as losing one's home - and I hope none of you have to go through an event of at magnitude. After calling my insurance company, my representative provided a short list of recommended general contractors to take charge of the rebuild project. I had no experience in choosing a contractor for a project of this size, and so I reasoned that the insurance company must feel that all of the companies on the list are capable of handling the task and that at least have a good working relationship that would help speed up the process and smooth the way when issues arise. Shortly afterwards we met Ron - JM Construction's liaison person to my insurance team. Right off the mark my wife and I felt we had someone who understood where we were - lost. There were so many questions that we wanted to ask, but did not know who to ask or sometimes even how to format the questions. Ron helped us form the questions and more importantly helped us get answers. He translated our inexperience into concrete results (literally in our case) that got the project off the ground and off and running. He became our advocate. For taking us through the insurance quotation, city permit process, environmental steps and paperwork - Thank you Ron. Ron also introduced us to the rest of the team at JM Construction. Best contractor we've ever worked with, bar none. Jim and the staff at JM Construction have worked on multiple projects for our family over the years, starting with a remodel that was required after an electrical fire damaged a significant portion of our home, back when we were living in the Bay Area. The project manager and crew could not have been more supportive or accommodating, and given the shock and stress that followed that incident, we really needed that help. The work was completed on time, on budget, and the performance was flawless. Since that time we have had them back for various repairs/remodels, and most recently they completed a much-needed revamp of my parent's home in Santa Cruz County. Last October, we had a house fire that basically required our home of 30 years to be taken down to the studs. Throughout the process, we learned that the most important part of rebuilding a house is to find the right contractor.Fortunately we found Mark Nelson and Ron Hart from JM construction. I can not stress enough the importance of working with a contractor that excels in working on insurance jobs. Mark and Ron were extremely knowledgeable about the process and We felt not only were they well qualified, but they genuinely cared about us and knew how much that house meant to our family. Mark insured all inspections were handled correctly and when any issue that came up, he actively worked to get them quickly resolved. Communication is extremely important, and Mark ensured that we understood exactly what was going on with the rebuild and the timeline. He answered all of our questions. He gave us enough time to pick out the Appliances, Floor, Tile, Roof etc. Marks team was professional and detail oriented, and our home turned out gorgeous inside and out. Ron, his partner, is an expert on dealing with insurance companies. Ron Answered all of our questions , offered important information on fire inspections and how the process works that was invaluable, and he did this even before we decided to use JM as our contractor. Ron also did the initial cost estimate to rebuild and was able to justify all costs and get the correct amount of money to ensure our house would be rebuilt correctly. On July 24, 2013, I experienced my worst nightmare - a residential fire. My residence. When the fire department left, I realized how fortunate I was: Nobody had been injured, all pets were accounted for, my house was intact. Still, the loss was overwhelming: The stand alone lanai with BBQ was a charred ruin, one corner of the detached garage was damaged, and the "granny" unit behind and attached to the garage was uninhabitable from the fire and smoke damage. Much of the concrete and pavers had been damaged by the heat of the fire. Shrubs were dead and trees damaged. I turned to my insurance company (Allstate) and they recommended JM Construction. I cannot praise JM highly enough. They handled what seemed to be an interminable process of inspections, architectural drawings, permits, tests, and asbestos abatement. Through it all, they patiently answered all my questions. When the restoration construction actually started, some of the work was done by JM employees and some by subcontractors. All the workers had an incredible work ethic - the only time anyone sat or stood around was on their break or lunch hour. Everyone was unfailingly polite and I never heard swearing or off color comments. I emphasize this because I have walked past construction sites where the language and comments were so bad I have crossed the street to avoid the situation. During the construction process, the job site was accessed by way of my driveway. At the end of the workday the site was so clean that I never got a flat tire and I used the driveway daily. Toward the end of the restoration, I made a list of things I wanted done (caulking in the bathroom, replacement of a cupboard hinge, etc), and JM took care of everything without question. We had water damage from a broken downstairs toilet supply line. The 1st company recommended by the insurance company completely flaked on us. The insurance company dumped them and recommended JM Construction. Dave arrived when he was scheduled to show up, he was very professional and was very interested in helping us getting our damage mitigated to our satisfaction. A schedule was sent to us and it was absolutely followed by their crews. Roy, their floor contractor was excellent, very informative and willing to spend time taking about issues we had with new wood flooring. They matched the existing wood and you cannot tell there were any issues where the floor was replaced. The work done by the insulation contractor and the other employees of JM Construction was all great. They were friendly, professional, and they all arrived when they said they would be there. Cheryl from their office was great about calling and letting us know what was occurring and when the repair crews would be at the house, very appreciative for all the updates from her. Thank you to everyone that worked directly or in directly at our house. Also, can't say enough about much we appreciated Dave for all he did to keep everything staying on schedule, answering any question we had, or concerns about what would be occurring before during and after the work was completed. JM Construction is most unethical, cheating, unprofessional, the worse construction I ever had. I was referred by my insurance company-AAA to use them to replace the flooring. Their vendor used downgraded materials and the job was lousy; they short materials and used unmatched wood base board to finish the work and refused to replace back with my original quality. JM construction flooring vendor damaged total 35 items on my house and refused to reimburse me or repair/replace to original. I had to spend more than 5 months to chase their project manager; the last phone call I got from them was that he would wave $1000 deductible and call it off; however, the very next week; I got a threatening letter from JM Construction that they would put a lien against my household without cause and sent a 3 party collection agency-OPTIO solutions, LLC. to keep on harassing me for the money I did not owe them. I emailed the president at JM construction; he never replied. I finally settled with my insurance company AAA; then AAA is willing to reimburse me the damage items done by JM construction. JM is the most ridiculous, irresponsible and unprofessional and rude and not able to keep their promise. DO NOT USE JM CONSTRUCTION; they can become your nightmare. Again, be careful of dealing with this company; the whole company is a scam. read more

I had a large fire at my house recently and since I did not know or have a general contractor, my insurance recommended JM Construction. JM personnel responded as soon as I called their office, they sent out an estimator to inspect the damages within 24-36 hours after the loss occurred. I received a detailed itemized estimate of the damages after an agreed price was reached with my insurance company. The damages sustained were extensive and included replacement of the hardwood floors and tile flooring throughout, new kitchen cabinets, new appliances and some additional remodel work/upgrades that I also had done at the same time. My repairs were completed with 3 months from the date of the fire occurring. JM personnel always communicated the schedule and any changes that might have occurred during the repair process until completion. They did a job walk thru with me when the repairs were completed to make sure that I was happy with the quality and workmanship and that all items that were included on my insurance scope were repaired or replaced. I would highly recommend JM Construction to my family and friends if they ever need a general contractor for any insurance or remodel work. JM Construction did a major reconstruction of our house after a big fire. They carefully restored the recoverable parts of the house, reconstructed the damaged sections and completely refinished the entire house inside and out. Jm Construction is an excellent company to work with. In addition to having their technical skills, they know how to work with the various insurance companies to make sure everything was paid for with the least amount of hassle. Insurance carriers trust JM Construction. The team at JM always let us know what was going to happen with weekly emails regarding the scheduled work for the week. They always left the job site clean at the end f every day. They have top-notch craftsmen, especially their finish carpenters, tile setters, drywall specialists and painters. We had a very nice house before the fire, but JM improved on everything they touched. They have a very easy to understand and fair way of pricing their work, with no hidden charges for unexpected change orders. They also have excellent project management. They were a lot of fun to work with and we will definitely use them again when we are ready to remodel our kitchen. read more

We had a broken hot water pipe underneath the home towards end of last year 2011 spraying for about 1 to 2 months and didn't know it. We contacted the insurance company AAA after our plumber found out the problem, but it was a bit late. We moved out within a week and the mold and water damage remediation began. After the clean up, JM Construction assisted in the restoration of the home. JM's workers were professional and courteous and did a great job. They did what was in the interest of the client. I managed the entire process daily and saw what they did. They were efficient and I must say the new project manager Dave was excellent to deal with! If there were issues, they fixed them immediately no questions asked. JM finished as promised 4 months and came back afterwards 2 weeks after to conduct another final walk through after we moved in. All the people at JM were a delight to work with and the president, Jim came out as well to check on the home. Class act and top of the line work! JM Contruction; a master bathroom leak which worked it's way down to the kitchen; Christmas; Mom's broken toe; and hand surgery all at the same time. Needless to say, we had our hands full and were uncertain who we should trust to repair our master bath and kitchen. Finally, after talking with Michael of JM my husband and I felt confident our home repairs were in good hands. The JM team did a fantastic job on our master bath and kitchen remodel. It's a beautiful sight to behold (we were able to incorporate HGTV ideas in the remodel). It's simply beautiful! Michael was extremely supportive, accomodating, and reassuring during the whole process. Since our insurance placed us in beautiful temporary housing during the remodel I was able to mend very comfortably. We were away from our home for near four months (the move back date was off only by a few days) but the time away was worth the wait. We're so happy with the remodel by JM. Our home suffered water damage early this year and JM Construction did a marvelous job of restoring the damaged areas. They replaced the bathroom flooring, the bathroom vanity, toilets, and the carpeting throughout most of the home. I also asked them to do some additional work which included additional carpeting, fixing ceiling and wall cracks and some interior painting. I must say that they did a wonderful job. It was truly a pleasure working with Dave Bieber who managed the project. His team restored the damaged areas and I particularly like the way they patched and textured the holes in the bathrooms and carpeted the staircase. It is an improvement over the original carpeting work. Dave was very helpful with vanity and toilet recommendations as well. And when I found additional items that I wanted repaired, he was always willing to work with me to get them fixed for a fair price. I wanted to drop a note about my very positive experience with JM Construction. We had a PVC waste pipe which had been punctured by a structural load bearing beam due to the natural shifting of our house (it's old). It was a frustrating water damaged mess. The load bearing beam was soiled and in bad shape as well as the sheet rock and paint located close by. After consulting with a number of companies I was referred to JM Construction and was not disappointed. They were quick in getting me scheduled with their estimator, Ron. And my project began just over a week later. The JM team was quick, professional, and most importantly, their work was perfect. After just 2 days the job was done, water damage remediated, and even perfect matching paint applied. No mess left in my house, and the crew's care with our home was exceptional. Following an extremely recent and painful experience with a long remodel provided by another company, the Happy Valley School District hired JM Construction of Campbell. A BETTER SELECTION COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MADE! A new building was added that included tapping into water mains, effluent removal, electrical, and fire alarm connections ; all were done seamlessly and without disruption to the school teachers, students, parent volunteers and staff. The school functioned smoothly because of a dedicated team of employees at JM Construction led by on site oversight of a dedicated owner, Jim Edens. Specifically the team included Alberto, Ben, and Javier , who all functioned responsibly and with a conviction for excellence, not often seen in construction projects in our schools 160 year history. JM Construction was selected by my home insurance company to repair water damage from a leaking toilet. They performed damage remediation by removing the damaged dry wall and framing in my garage ceiling, removed mold and waste and they replaced the floor tiles and plywood flooring in my bathroom and reinstalled the toilet. They also painted my garage to color match the repainted areas. They were very professional and performed all of the work on schedule as promised. Additionally, they proactively protected my house with floor to ceiling containment in the work areas and they cleaned up construction debris at the end of each day, never using my waste bins. I am very satisfied with the quality, professionalism and craftsmanship of the repairs. It look's like it never happened. JM gets my highest rating and I strongly recommend them. read more

We hired JM Construction to repair interior water damage in our Cupertino home after a roof leak, and they were excellent from start to finish. Ben came out quickly, delivered a detailed estimate the same week, and patiently answered our questions about scope. What impressed us most: he asked who our insurance carrier was so he could write the estimate in the same format and pricing our insurer uses -- that made the claim process dramatically smoother. The office (thank you, Cindy!) was responsive and organized, with all paperwork handled cleanly over DocuSign, and a project manager (Rodrigo) was assigned within a day of signing. Super happy with the work JM Construction performed on our home. After damage from a redwood tree falling through the side of our house and then the subsequent water damage from the rains and storms, jm rebuilt the main area of our home. They navigated the insurance process for us and guided us through the steps of putting our home back together. They helped make an incredible stressful event somewhat more tolerable. Jim was responsive to questions and concerns as well as his advice was spot on. Steven the electrician was great, John the cabinet guy did a fab job on our vanity as well as all the other crews it took: painters, sheet rock, carpet, flooring etc. quality of work, accessibility, communication all good!! We had water damage and our insurance carrier (Allstate) arranged with JM Construction to handle the restoration work. Two bathrooms and the front hallway were involved. JM did a great job for us. The JM project manager, Dave Bieber, was very responsive to our questions and requests. He visited the site several times to make sure things were moving along as planned. The people he sent to do the work were all pleasant to work with and they were all professionals. Dave even figured out a work-around for a glitch left by the plumbers who fixed the leak (not JM).
