Charles and his team did an excellent job in renovating our kitchen and laundry room. We were in the process of moving in, and Charles had the team start as soon as we had the keys, and finished in a very timely manner. Everyone was punctual and there were no surprises. We hired Z design to build our brand new kitchen and powder room. Why we highly recommend them 1. Highly professional and trustworthy- they show up when they say they will, and all the team members are trustworthy. The owner, Charles, is outstanding at communication, responding very quickly to texts even on weekends and evenings. His on-site foreman, Wu, is very experienced, very personable, and expertly handled the day-to-day of the project 2. They have their own showroom, so zero hassle with regards to design ideas/inspiration or visualizing what your end product will look like 3. They have an outstanding designer named Crystal who is extremely creative, detail-oriented, and excellent at communicating project details and updates via email. She also coordinates the delivery of all cabinets, etc., and any replacement pieces exactly when the team needs them, so the homeowner doesn't need to coordinate that part. 4. Excellent workmanship, everyone takes pride in their work, and a job well done. DaPeng and Zhao were particularly gifted in their craftsmanship and excellent problem-solvers for more complex tasks 5. When there were examples of work we were not 100% satisfied with, Charles worked with us to ensure the work was done again/redone to meet our satisfaction 6. Highly competitive rates and very flexible with working around our preferences, e.g., we were not required to leave the home while they worked. They were also very flexible and professional in working with our timeline and the schedule of another team working on a different project in the house. 7. Timeliness. Charles said the project would take 3-4 weeks, and, yes, they were done right on time. The team even worked on Saturdays, as needed, to stay on track with the deadline 8. Finished on budget. We're happy to have had an excellent experience working with Z design and LOVE our brand-new kitchen and powder room. read more

Charles and his team were exceptional throughout our entire home renovation. We chose to upgrade in phases to manage the transition, and Charles executed the plan perfectly. What stood out: * Reliability: He consistently started and finished each phase on schedule. He proactively scheduled all required jobs ahead of time to ensure he met every committed timeline--which was invaluable since we were living in the home during construction. * Communication: He was always reachable and provided regular progress updates and photos while we were away, keeping us completely comfortable with the process. * Collaboration: Charles worked closely with us on the design of our kitchen and living room. He was incredibly flexible and made sure to incorporate all of our specific design needs into the final look. * Professionalism: The entire team was friendly, skilled, and easy to work with. If you are looking to renovate but aren't sure where to start, I highly recommend Charles and his team. We are incredibly happy with our finished home. read more

Charles and his crew did an excellent job on two bathroom remodels. We are thrilled with the final results and couldn't be happier. Throughout the whole timeline from visiting the showroom to demo to wrapping up, Charles and his crew were available via text, email or phone. I never waited more than a few minutes to hear back any time we had a question or concern. Charles' crew is very attentive and punctual. They cleaned up after themselves at the end of every day. They were very careful of not damaging any other part of the house. I received updates to the invoice at periodic times all throughout the process. There were never any surprises with cost or otherwise. My only regret is not finding them sooner. Highly recommend Charles and Z Design!! read more

Charles and his team are very highly recommend. I'm a homeowner who has embarked on 2 large remodels. I also have investment properties and have engaged with contractors for remodel jobs. My experience with Charles and the team at Z Design Construction was, by far, the most pleasant. He is will priced, works quickly and is a good communicator and responds quickly to email and text messages. He is also very flexible and can add/reduce scope of the job without penalty. The quality of the work was good and they'll come back and fix or adjust anything that may not have been done to your satisfaction the first time (no contractor gets it perfect the first time). Thanks Charles! read more

Extremely professional, sincere and very hard working team! Everyone was onsite at sharp 8am every working day to the extent that we started telling the time from their punctuality. We got a lot done on our (old) new house and really appreciate the detailed work Charles and team put into making it brand spanking new. They were able to handle everything from flooring, baseboards, appliance installation, fixing leaks, kitchen remodeling, electrical pane upgrade, lights, vents, car charger installation and a lot more nitty gritty things required to make a house livable and worth enjoying! Charles and his team are a phenomenal bunch. Highly professional and super easy to work with. Quality of work is stellar. They did my kitchen remodel, the end product turned out great. I requested for a custom range hood; they took my design inputs and shared their recommendations through out the process. The range hood is now the focal point in my kitchen and I couldn't have asked for better. Big shout out to Wu and Chen for their hard work. Good work ethic is hard to find nowadays, but Charles and his team have been a complete joy to work with. They are efficient, thorough and communicative. Every project has been handled with care and I don't have to worry about anything. Charles is on top of his team and provides the best service every time. It's obvious that he takes the time to make sure his staff is well trained and prepared. I'm not loyal to many company because there are often more than 3 strikes. However, Charles has not disappointed me after multiple projects, and on top of that, his pricing is reasonable! Finding a good contractor is tedious enough, so finding Charles has truly been a blessing! Loyalty earned. read more

Tina Turner probably sums it up the best..."simply the best. better than all the rest. better than anyone" 2nd time using Charles and his team, this time to redo flooring, install new pre-hung doors and remove a wall to expand living space and final outcome is awesome. Wu was the project manager and made a lot of suggestions along the way, some of which helped save money which was appreciated. He also has a great personality and is very easy to work with. They are all great to work with. Overall had around 8 or 9 different workers between flooring installers, demo crew and installation of doors and baseboards, over the course of 2 weeks and they were always on time. We usually get 3-4 different quotes when doing larger projects but this time we did not and felt confident with the decision from the beginning. read more

Upon buying our home in early 2020, we knew we immediately wanted to remodel much of our home before moving in. After some research and looking at other projects they had done, we went with Z Design Construction. We have absolutely no regrets about this decision. I highly recommend them for the professionalism, work, materials used, quality, and precision. They have their own showroom and they have a wide variety of color combinations on tiles, cabinets, vanities, flooring, among everything else you might need and want. Although the overall environment was challenging during these COVID-19 times, the team at Z Design Construction were very patient and accommodating. Once the work began, it became immediately clear that we were dealing with top-notch professionals who were responsive to our calls, texts, questions and thoughts from beginning to end. We were kept updated on status of each workstream and next steps. Our contractor was Charles and he was terrific from start to finish. He was quick to raise concerns and offer solutions as we went along and was a true partner on the project. That, and he's an extremely kind person who truly cared about the outcome throughout and wanted the best for our family. Charles and his team did a fantastic job from everything from the kitchen cabinets, kitchen countertops, installing/replacing light fixtures, bathroom vanities, bathroom tub/shower, flooring, and everything else they worked on. This is a company that employs great people who do very good work. They team was polite and also very good about cleaning up after they leave. This company really cares about rectifying problems if they do exist and ensuring customer happiness which will set them up for success for the long term. This is a high-quality operation and we're thrilled we chose to go with them and look forward to partnering with them again on future projects. read more

Charles and his team were an amazing asset to the sale of our home. They were professional, fast, thorough and they came in right on budget. For a very reasonable amount we were able to fully update our home before selling and ended up having a bidding war of 11 buyers. Charles offered cost effective solutions and his ability to provide a fully comprehensive build (supplies, all trades and all hardware/finishings etc) made the process seamless and low stress. We would happily recommend Z design for anyone's home update needs. Especially in the Bay Area where the prices are high and that doesn't always lead to quality. Thanks Charles and team! read more

Had a great experience with Bing and the Z Design team on our new recessed lighting and plumbing job. They were very responsive and very transparent with their quotes. While doing their work, they even caught another plumbing leak, reported it to us, and got it fixed on the same job! They were prompt and timely on their start date, very thorough in their work, and left the place spic and span after the job. Highly recommend them for their professionalism and great attitudes! read more

Charles and his crew were fantastic, from the initial meeting in the showroom, to several weeks later, the lightning-quick installation of our kitchen remodel in summer 2021. We live in Capitola, and our far-out location from typical radius wasn't a problem. Beautiful cabinets, countertops, and greatly improved the functionality of our space with practical electrical suggestions, and we stayed within our budget expectations. Extremely knowledgeable crew. We plan to hire Z Design again for future remodeling projects. read more

Wonderful experiencing working with Charles, Wu, Denny and the entire crew on our condo kitchen remodel. We used Z design construction to finish our garage and attic space. Bing and his team were great from start to finish. We had an initial consultation regarding the scope of work and Bing heard us patiently and explained the feasibility of the tasks, especially in finishing the attic space. Bing was very open to feedback and also late requests. The Z team was very professional, always cleaned up at the end of the day, and wore masks as per guidelines. The structural as well as restoration work was done with due diligence. Although the work took an additional few weeks than what was forecast in the beginning, there were no surprises with pricing at the end, and we were very pleased with the end results. Would highly recommend this team. read more

Amazing. Had them securely hang some hammocks under our concrete patio. Prompt response. Scheduled. On time. Highly recommend.

Charles and his team were amazing. He finished the entire remodel within 10 days. I concur with the other reviews regarding Charles communication during the entire process. There were no unexpected charges during the entire process. Charles's pricing was transparent, reasonable, and fair. Like most remodeling, minor issues popped up after the remodel was finished. Charles and his team fixed the issues immediately even though it was the day after Thanksgiving! read more

His entire team was on-time and they cleaned up everyday at the end of their work shift. We were so impressed that we used his team to install engineered hardwood flooring after our kitchen was done. We are very satisfied with the services provided by Charles and his team. Charles is very easy to communicate with and always approachable. Mr. Chao is the most experienced carpenter I've ever worked with. His custom made bar countertop is such a masterpiece. You can't make any factual HONEST, truthful review on yelp about a business if negative, because yelp makes it money from them. My experience with Z Design is a negative 5, sales peoples extremely rude, arrogant, their inventory not price, so you have to ask. Their contractor "Charles" claiming to be the owner, didn't show up to appointment, without any apology. Their Contractor license is under Wanyi Zhao, none of their workers speak a word in English! Is it crossing the line expecting businesses to respectfully communicate in English in a predominantly English speaking country? Chinese speaking neighbors who've used them pay a fraction of what other contractors charge for the same jobs, how is that possible? read more

We have had Charles and his team do two house upgrades for us. In both cases, the work was done on time and on budget. Things were done on schedule despite some delays from Home Depot. Home Depot delivered Garden Window 5 days behind scheduled promised date but these guys went ahead with measurements and placed rest of the structure so no delay happen to overall schedule. I had the pleasure of working with Charles and his crew on adding an additional bathroom to our home. I interviewed six contractors for the job and, for me, Charles exhibited a level of trust, flexibility and friendliness I was looking for. During the process Charles always answered my questions and he really helped with plans to submit to the city for review. He was there every step of the way. When we received the okay from the city his team was on-time and ready to work. I did have to remind his team barricade the area of work off from the rest of the house but that is just a technicality. The workmanship of his crew was tremendous. There was extensive tiling involved and it looks absolutely wonderful. Charles and I worked together very well and we played suggestions off each other through the entire process.
