In March 2024 a 100 ft. tall tree fell on our home in a storm. The tree smashed an 8' X 12' skylight, blew out a 5' X 12' window wall, damaged structural beams and walls, our fireplace, our sunroom and back deck. We had a Garage Fire in June 2024 with heavy smoke damage throughout our home. We were referred to JM by another contractor, who did similar fire restoration work, but he was too busy. This proved to be a stroke of luck, because not only is JM an approved repair vendor for our carrier, Liberty Mutual, but they are also a Lionsbridge Contractor, which speeds up the payments process. JM also writes their bids using the Symbility application, an estimating platform, for property claims. Liberty Mutual has transitioned from Xactimate to Symbility, making Symbility their primary estimating platform for property claims. If your contractor doesn't intimately play the insurance game within their required processes, you and your restoration process are toast. Once we got going with their recommended Architect in October, we had all our permits approved by Halloween. JM attacked our job with speed and precision and offered some very helpful tips to make changes that improved the value and functionality of our home. They have every specialty person in house, including their own Plumber, Painter, Electrician and Framer. We cannot say enough about Cesar, their Painter. He does so much more than just paint and he measures everything 3 times and always uses a level. He is so patient and he just works at such a consistent pace, showing up early every day and staying as long as it takes. Our entire house required repainting, inside and out. I used to be a House Painter back in the day, but I was never anywhere near his level. Their Plumber Stephen is very efficient and also does so much more than merely Plumbing. You wouldn't believe how he installs so much stuff, so quickly and carefully too. Lastly, our Supervisor in charge of the whole project, Rodrigo, was very skilled, both as a Manager and a Construction worker. He handled all of our requests in an efficient manner and was always very respectful. Our house was completed and we are very happy with the results. We know they will be responsive if we have any issues, as they back their work with a warranty. I would use JM Construction again without hesitation. A friend of ours is remodeling her house with a different contractor, and she is having all sorts of quality issues and communication problems. Our nightmare began November 29th 2023, my parents home of almost 40 years burned and was marked a complete loss, this was going to be a huge project. JM Construction was the company recommended by insurance. Never going through this type of process we were clueless and went with it, no regrets. Ron reached out within a week and wanted to come by and formally introduce himself and talk about the process, what to expect while our home was being rebuilt and always reassuring us to call or text if we had any questions. We met with Ron several times during the year it took the City Of San Jose to approve permits Ron was always updating us permit status during that long year wait. When permits were finally approved Mark contacted us and wanted to meet with us at our home as the project of rebuilding was going to start. Mark let us know that it would take 6-8 months and not to quote him but weather permitting with no major issues, we could be home around the 4th of July weekend. Mark made it happen....final inspection was July 2nd, inspection passed and he let us know immediately we could start moving back in. Communication was always, always, always at 100%, with Mark, the different crews working on our house. Mark went on vacation, he let us know he would be out of the country but would be available if needed. Mark never missed a text, call from me....Mark and the crews did an outstanding job on our house....the walls, paint, floors, cabinets, windows and doors, fixtures, appliances....Everyone with JM all made it home again....Last meeting with Mark was greeted with a hug and walk through of the house to make sure we were happy and everything acceptable....as always through the rebuild process, we were extremely happy with all their hard work. I have had JM Construction to do work at my Cupertino townhouse in 2022 and did excellent work on a very timely basis. My ex tenants had a refrigerator leak. Ben Edens came out and gave me an estimate which was very good. The floors were ripped out, then dried. Then they replaced the kitchen floor and replaced all the carpets. This year, 2024, JM construction replaced my garbage disposal, completely replaced my master bathroom tiles in the shower, and bathroom floor. Six months ago, JM completed a job repairing water damage to our home. Because they did such a great job, I asked them to bid on a patio project, widening the patio and and some structural work removing a post that blocked our view and limited the ability to have patio furniture. Ben Edens came out to look at the job and estimate the work. He made recommendations on how best to approach the job. He provided a reasonable estimate and I didn't bother getting other quotes because I had confidence JM would do a quality job based on their past performance. I'm glad I did. JM Construction did an excellent job for us! They did an extensive repair for us where the main item was replacing a set of doors that had been damaged. I had called some places on my own prior to having JM come out and they all told me our door couldn't be matched with the other ones in the house. JM found me a door company that could match exactly what we had. Their team is highly skilled in multiple things so they can do complex repairs. In our case, they needed to put in new flashing, install the doors, restucco, and paint everything to match. They did high quality work and you can't even tell the doors had to be replaced. JM construction is a very poorly run company that I would avoid at all costs. The project manager never wrote anything down. The plumber they hired burned my framing in 3 places and used over 50 shims to level my shower floor. The tile person did not seem happy to be working for them and did terrible work. The grout lines were not even throughout the job and he did not use enough mortar on each tile piece. He couldn't figure out the patterned tile we selected to run through the middle of the shower wall and he put it in the wrong direction 3 different times. The soap dish stuck out so far from the shower wall that it looked comical. He also stapled the the vinyl water barrier to the shower floor, so it would have leaked immediately. I had to remove everything they did and start over. I got a real contractor who came in and did an excellent job. If you hire this contractor, you will regret it. read more

I was a bit disappointed at how long it took to get the work started but that is no fault of theirs, they just had jobs previously scheduled ahead of me. Everything went smoothly from estimating to the various sub contractors coming out to do an assessment. Cindy kept me updated with schedules, payments, etc. I was hesitant about the schedule they gave me working out as it seemed quite tight but the project was completed to the day, everything on time. Dave answered all of my questions and helped connect the dots for me. Just as most large projects go, there were minor fixes that needed to be done after the job was finished but Dave and team were rock stars and made sure things were back the way they were. We used JM based on our insurance company's recommendation. It took over six months to get our kitchen back together after the dishwasher flooded. That means over six months with no running water in our kitchen. No way to cook in the kitchen. And Jeff at JM rarely returned texts, phone calls or emails. The only time he seemed to respond was when we included our insurance rep. It took from March - July to pick a new countertop because Jeff kept giving us useless information. Every time we spoke, it was like the previous conversations never took place. We finally found a place on our own to get the materials because JM didn't do it. When they finally put our appliances back, all but one was damaged. They tried to tell us they started out that way, but we had photos and eventually they fixed things. The flooring people they hired tried to tell us they'd just glue in and fix half the floor. After months of going around, the insurance rep stepped in and confirmed they were supposed to replace it all. I cannot recommend JM construction to anyone who values good work and good communication. read more

We had a fire at our freestanding commercial building in June 2020. We went through torture for two years to get permits to do the repairs. JM was as diligent as they could be in dealing with the County. Once we got the permits, they had workers starting within hours. They did a fabulous job as quickly as they could having to deal with the County. The building was only partially damaged, but you can't tell where the old part is as they made the whole building look like new. Mark Nelson and his team kept us apprised at every step of the way and provided very helpful suggestions. Jim Edens was also very helpful as was Cindy Wax with how she did a fabulous job with the contracts and billing. She made everything very easy to track. Jim and Mark run a great company. It is has been said that patience is a virtue, so here is our story. We had major damage to our upstairs master bath and bedroom which went through the walls and floors into our downstairs family room and bath. We contacted three different construction companies with JM being the most fully booked for several weeks out. Since JM came with high recommendations from a reliable source we decided to go with them and live with the inconvenience a little longer. Our contract letter read in part: "We appreciate the opportunity to assist you and are committed to the highest level of quality and service". JM lived up to this promise way beyond any expectations on our part. To start, Ben, JM's estimator, sent a detailed 19 page estimate to our insurance company and it was then declined by our USAA claims adjuster. In a very professional manner, Ben notified USAA of an oversight on their part and the full amount requested was immediately transferred into our checking account. Thank you to Ben! Once the restoration began we were provided with excellent work, in a timely manner, as well as kept informed throughout the process. Our scheduling needs were taken into consideration and adjustments were made accordingly and we were pleased with all the projects done by the sub-contractors. However, we were especially impressed by the meticulous attention to details and the professional mannerisms of the JM employees, Antonio, Hector, Julio and Stephen. Most of all, Dave, our Project manager, was there for us every step of the way. We would have been lost without his expert recommendations and guidance during the reconstruction process. We had a leak from the AC coil that ruined our laminate flooring and it needed to be fixed and/or replaced. We went through our insurance company and they recommended JM Construction to get it all fixed. The assessor came out, then the project manager, then a date was set for demo and laying of the floors. We decided to also remove our tile in the kitchen to have the same flooring throughout the house, so that was an extra piece that we paid for on our own outside of the insurance help. I thought JM did a fantastic job. The only reason for four stars instead of five is due to the communication issues with the flooring subcontractor and them needing to come back to finish a few things. They were very responsive to every request we had and I would use them again and have already recommended them. Oddly enough, our neighbor had the same problem we did a few months later and their insurance company used them as well (different insurance company than us). They asked me if I recommended them and I did, so they are working there as well. read more

I am a very picky and detail oriented person, but couldn't find a single flaw in their work. I hired JM Construction to clear away the remains of my burned-up garage and build a replacement garage on the same concrete slab. From contract signing to completion, the job took 519 days. The workmanship was excellent. Shari Parker did a good job of keeping me aware of when workmen would be coming. Jeff Bailey was the project lead. I am very happy with my garage and working with JM Construction. It just took too long! Most of the problems seemed to be caused by subcontractors and not by JM Construction, itself. For example, a significant delay was the garage doors, which took 278 days from contract signing to completion of installation. I also had JM Construction replace my front steps and rear porch. both, which had severe rot. I am also satisfied with that work. I would use JM Construction again for other repairs. read more

The job was to rebuild kitchen after water damage occurred. Went through insurance co that used JM as the GC. For insurance work, you need to be an active participant in how you want to repair your kitchen. It is not a planned project. The insurance company will just want repair it to its original condition and reuse whatever can be salvaged and reinstalled. JM and their team worked with us on managing the insurance and our cost to replace some of the appliances and fixtures. We selected the materials and had ready for them ahead of the scheduled work. We were very pleased with the workmanship and end results. JM was heavily booked with work when we were ready for the rebuild after the kitchen went through separate water drying and abatement work. So the start of work took about 2 months to get on their schedule, and it took another 6 weeks to complete the bulk of the work complete with only 3 minor touchups. You can use the waiting period to start selecting replacement materials for the counter, sink, faucet and appliances you want to have replaced. JM has subs that helped us select our cabinets and flooring materials a week or two prior to getting on their schedule to start the work. As always, be an active partner with any contractor and you will minimize the time to complete the work and improve quality of the job for all involved. I had extensive water damage in my home due to a faulty installation from Home Depot-- our entire ceiling (washer/dryer is on second floor) above the kitchen had to be pulled out and removed. We went with JM Construction to do the repairs and were very pleased with their work. The entire ceiling looks exactly as it did before (including paint color and texture). The team who did the work was professional, efficient, and only took two days to finish up. They also did a great job of cleaning up after they left which is no small feat considering the amount of paint and debris had to be cleared out with the extensive nature of the repairs. The only minor quibble I had was that it took two weeks to schedule a time for them to come out and repair due to their busy schedules, but ultimately this was under stable with their workload. read more
