Diined here again last weekend and can't give them enough stars. Food is always outstanding. They age their steaks in house and cook over mesquite grill - flavor can't get any better. Sides were just as delicious. All their desserts are fantastic but if you've never had the Profiteroles you need to start there (pastry type biscuit sandwiching vanilla ice cream covered in chocolate sauce). We come here daily for breakfast and it does not disappoint. The food is always good, all of the waitresses are so friendly. They sometimes have large groups, but the staff do all they can to fit anyone coming in to a table or booth. They have been short on staff a few times, but you just see them hustling a bit more to provide the same service. Missy, Sharon, Jessica, Deanna, Amanda and Jeanna are an awesome team. We started with the Carolina egg roll and it was very good but had way much collar greens than protein. We had the cowboy steak and it was delicious. I discovered JK's some years ago and it is one of the best restaurants in North Carolina. They offer the best cuts of beef you will find anywhere and cook it to perfection. The side dishes are very good as are the desserts. I admit I cannot offer any guidance on non-beef entrees because I always get beef but I would think they are on par. The staff has always been respectful and friendly. No reservations so go early since they always fill up quick. read more

Sadly, this truly feels like the end of an era for us. For well over 10 years, JK's has been an amazing place -- somewhere we would plan day trips around a couple of times a year and look for any excuse to visit even more often. There are so many sentimental memories tied to JK's, and those are what we'll choose to reflect on rather than the disappointment and letdown we recently experienced. Unfortunately, that disappointment was significant enough that I don't see us returning. Our anniversary is on New Year's Eve, and unless you're local with a reservation, you're simply not getting in -- or if you do, you should expect an hours-long wait. Last year, we gladly waited, and it was absolutely worth it. When we visited in May, we specifically asked about when NYE reservations would open and were told September 1st. During an early November visit, we were then told December 1st. On December 1st, we began calling and messaging. We were assured there was plenty of availability but were instructed to call back the Friday after Christmas. We did -- left a message -- and then received a voicemail Monday afternoon stating there were no more reservations available. It's incredibly disappointing and honestly feels like we were led on and sent on a rat race for nothing. Just be straightforward. Don't lead people on. We've always spoken highly of JK's and shared it with others -- even encouraging folks from our car community to visit, where they happily spent hundreds of dollars on a dinner. But I have to say, after all these years, something felt off during our November visit. It was the first time I've experienced dry chicken and a noticeable dip in quality compared to what we'd come to expect. Now, being left to scramble for anniversary plans just two days beforehand is frustrating. That said, I trust there's a reason for everything and that our anniversary will work out exactly as it's meant to -- but there's no denying that JK's truly let us down. read more

An upscale restaurant where the locals go. This very popular steakhouse gets jammed packed with multi hours wait times quickly. There's a reason, it's good. We got there at 6 on a Saturday evening and had a 1.5 hour wait. So we headed to the bar for two of the best made Old Fashions we have had. As promised, 1.5 hours later our table was ready. At this point they were turning away customers saying it would be close to 3 hours and the kitchen would be closing. The restaurant is small, but the tables are well spaced. I was surprised at how well i could hear my dinner companion. In spite of crowds the noise level was not bad. I can tell how much I will like my meal by the bread they serve. They served the best French bread baguette with whipped butter. Our steaks were perfectly cooked at MR, our veggies were not just an addition, they were made with love and just the right seasoning. Customer service from the raspy voiced man acting as maitre d (JK perhaps?) to our server was friendly. Maybe too friendly, we were made to wait for our check while the waitress enjoyed a glass of wine and some small talk with the folks at the table behind us. They seem to take away from the plate. Something was not right but that's ok. Not worth singing the place over. We had such a great experience at JK's. This was the perfect date night spot in the Outer Banks. We felt like we really got our money's worth and the food was very delicious. I tried the JK's special. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and the grilled shrimp were very flavorful. We also got clam chowder to start. It was creamy and actually had clams! (I've ordered clam chowder at other restaurants and swear the soup didn't even have clams). My boyfriend also really enjoyed his meal. It was a special fish meal, so it's not on the typical menu. But it came with a crab salad on top, which was a nice touch. I was so stuffed by the end of dinner, but we had to try a dessert. The creme brûlée was also very good. I'd highly recommend this place if you're looking for some good quality food at the beach. Over the years, we've had bad experiences at obx restaurants. Overcharging and selling mostly fried options. This was a nice (sort of hidden) place to find. And if you're like me, looking for a nice spot to get away from large crowds, disruptive kids, and just annoying touristy type people - this is your place. read more

The Angus Barn in Raleigh is not that expensive plus you get a choice of salad and potatoes with the meal. Also condiments when you sit down. Plus they take reservations. Let me start with price. JK's is not for the pocket book timid tourist. Its prices rival high price steak houses in major cities, yet in a very limited tourist area. With that said, the quality was better than good, however not great; not for the prices. Service was excellent, you could tell there was a local, friendly repeat customer feel. Several customers were greeted as friends or regular customers, which speaks to their longevity in a seasonal market. The menu changes, according to our server based on availability and price. He noted supply chain issues, in November 2023, when I questioned the absence of a NY Strip, which is my go to steak. I had a filet which was solid. My daughter had a chicken selection which she enjoyed and my wife was disappointed with her $78 ribeye. The sides were very southern and limited. While I know this review has a negative slant, mainly due to high cost, that is relative to your wallet. As I often say in my reviews, look at the totality of the reviews, not a single opinion. All I can say is wow at this dining experience. My boyfriend and I are visiting for the weekend and ate at the bar last night. We haven't had food as impressive as JK's in awhile. They open at 5, so we arrived at 5, as they don't take reservations. We waited in line for about 10 minutes, and got seated right away. We did choose the bar in hopes of getting seated quicker. However, we probably would have gotten seated within a few minutes if we didn't. I do recommend getting there when they open, I promise you it's worth it whether you wait or not. The bar was pretty busy, but incredible and attentive service by both bartenders! I really enjoyed the atmosphere & decor. They provided waters as soon as we sat, and then I opted for a glass of Argentinian Malbec. A few moments later in comes one of the freshest, most delicious loaves of bread we have ever had. This was warm, delicious and served with a side of butter that was magical. JK's has a extensive menu, with so many incredible options! We decided to start with the braised short ribs. These aren't on the menu online, as I just checked, but they were in the restaurant. The first bite, let me tell you, I think I was overwhelmed at how mouth watering this was. We devoured it and I considering another. We then ordered the wedge salad. This is a special wedge as it's served with prosciutto - YUM. Yet again, one of the best wedges we've ever had. For our entrees, my boyfriend ordered the NY Strip Sanchez, covered in a delicious chimichurri sauce. This was phenomenal. Served with succotash and baby bliss red mashed potatoes, the impressiveness just continues. I went for the JK's Special - grilled and sliced filet mignon medallions, cooked perfectly and served with a Mediterranean marinated mesquite grilled shrimp skewer. Also served with succotash and baby bliss mashed potatoes. Everything was mouth watering. I highly recommend JK's if you're visiting the OBX, or even if you live here & haven't yet.
