One waitress wonderful. One waitress had a major anger management problem. Luckily we were with friend's and Could enjoy ourselves. Brisket and pulled pork great. Enjoyed both barbecue sauces. Hummingbird cake delicious. read more

I so wanted to like this place. Smoker in the parking lot, cute little bar and BBQ joint, and it smelled amazing. Walked in, was seated reasonably quickly for lunch on a Wednesday (read: mostly empty). Was handed a menu, and then sat there for the better part of 10 minutes waiting for anyone to acknowledge my existence. Finally ordered - decided on the bbq combo platter with ribs, brisket, Mac n cheese, and potato salad... basically everything a good bbq joint should have mastered. Food comes, ribs have a gorgeous bark, brisket has a smoke ring, mac n cheese is delicious and the potato salad tastes good. Go to the meats, and that's the last bite I had. Brisket was shoe leather tough. Overcooked to oblivion. I don't mind well cooked brisket, as long as it had enough fat to keep it moist. This failed miserably. The ribs? Couldn't pry the meat off the bone - again cooked at too high a heat. Their bbq sauces left a lot to be desired as well. Left money for the tab and walked out. Absolutely disappointing experience given the hype. read more

This was the worst barbecue I've ever had and one of the worst meals I've ever had. The corn bites were liquid in the middle. The pork ribs were absolutely flavorless and tough. The lamb was so dry and flavorless it was like having sawdust in your mouth. I only ate 1/3 of my meal but I used a tablespoon of salt trying to save it. Gross. I'm embarrassed to say we paid for this. We were in a group and I didn't want to start any drama so I just let it go. Today the guest of honor told me he loved his birthday trip to Colorado except for this disgusting meal and I felt inspired to post this. read more

Located in the historic Teller House, you'll find some great bbq! This is a non-gaming establishment that is just wonderful! No noisy slot machines, just a great place for great food and conversation. I got the Mother Lode sammich and it was great! Pulled pork, brisket, and smoked kielbasa, topped with coleslaw and banana peppers! Delicious! With some potato salad on the side. We just love this place and will be back again and again! read more

JKQ BBQ - Mother Lode with a side of potato salad. - Barbeque Near Me - Blackhawk, Colorado

Service good! Ambiance good with a band in the bar area. Meat was good; side dishes so so!

This place is soooo good! My family and I each ordered something different and everyone loved what they got. The staff was amazing and friendly. The food came out fast and the server was on top of everything. The building is a historic landmark and is very comfortable. On the weekends they have live music. I definitely will be going back. read more

We stumbled upon this place by chance after seeing someone eating take out from here at another bar and are so glad that we did! All the staff was incredibly friendly, and the owner himself was there to greet us and hold the door open for us. We had a house specialty cocktail and I am still thinking about it nearly 2 weeks later. I was impressed that they also had alternate dietary options. We tried good assortment of the food and everything was really good. The place itself has an old-time feel to it, which is exactly what I was hoping for when I went to visit Blackhawk. It was great to stop at a place that was truly a local establishment and not just a casino. Overall, this is a great experience, and I am sure we will be back! read more

Had a party of six and apart from another couple or two, we were the only ones in the restaurant at dinner time, which was probably a red flag. Restaurant was understaffed and we waited almost 45 minutes for food to come out. A few people enjoyed the wedge salad, but all that ordered BBQ were disappointed . I tried the pulled pork and brisket. Both lacked flavor and were served cold. It was one of the more disappointing meals we've had at a restaurant. Do yourself a favor and skip JKQ BBQ. read more

Love this place for both its Dining/in as well as a to-go option. I have never been disappointed. My favorite is a double order of Mac & Cheese, smoked pulled chicken and kielbasa. Just amazing. The portions are excellent. I always have to ask for a box for my leftovers. Don't even get me started on the cheese curds...YUM. read more

Drinks, atmosphere and staff were nice. Place was a bit dirty. We ordered beer and nachos after a hike. Took 45 minutes for an order of nachos and the place was 95% empty. Beer was great. Nachos were disgusting. Maybe 20 chips with unmelted cheese, queso and bbq pieces of fat!??? The burgers at the next table looked alright. We probably won't be back though. read more

We happened upon this great restaurant as we were off roading. Martina was our waitress. She took care of us the moment we sat down. The atmosphere was great and the food was even better. We would be happy to return or recommend. Thank you for a lovely birthday celebration. read more

Disappointed with the BBQ, tried it twice and won't be returning. Overpriced for the lackluster taste.

We had a surprise birthday party and the staff & management were very accommodating to all of us. Thank You for all you did

The food is absolutely delicious! No complaints. Service could use some work! The Ambiance is good not many here so quiet.

We were exhausted from walking the strip of casinos on the 1st day of our weekend getaway. This was the perfect place to take care of our hunger. The location itself is charming & comfortable in a historic building in the downtown which is a nice change from the modern casino restaurants. The staff were super welcoming & quick with service. As for the food, you will smell the savory bbq before you even reach the restaurant like a siren song. I got the cheesesteak & my husband got the pulled pork sandwich both with sides of mac & cheese. The meats are tender & flavorful. The mac & cheese is the way I like it: thick cheese, not watery, & penne type pasta. The desserts also looked too good to pass up so we had the yummy lemon cake. Also don't pass on the house cocktail because that was addicting! Everytime we come to Black Hawk from now on this is our first stop! read more

Some of the best BBQ I've had. Homemade baked beans and homemade bbq sauces. They had live music. The atmosphere was great. Service was all you could ask for. read more

Wow!!! I gave them another chance and they seem to have gotten worse. It's pretty sad when a place can ruin nachos, but JKQ has accomplished that and more. I was with a large group and they brought out our food over about 30 minutes. The nachos were made with chips that had obviously been left open most of the day. The cheese had the consistency of congealed fat, and the 9 brisket pieces, that were about the size and taste of kibble, were rock hard. The restaurant itself is generally uncomfortable and poorly furnished, so the ambiance is like that of an old bar that should've been shut down long ago. One of my friends had pastrami that was so slimy the bread had soaked it up like a sponge. All this at about $30 per person. Make the drive to Idaho Springs and go to McDonalds. Your wallet and your stomach will thank you. read more

YUUUM!!! Beautiful space and very kind people (shout to Martina!) who gave us all the best tips (including her and the local tow truck driver's phone numbers) to feel safe on our post-lunch off-roading adventure. Po-boy was delish. Fries were super yum. read more

Amazing pig wings and ribs! The pit master drink was so good! The service was spectacular and we will 100% be back! Thanks for the lunch!

They had a special on fish and chips... the fish was obviously pre breaded and frozen like from a cardboard box and the fries weren't fresh. You know when you bite into that fry and it's spongy instead of crisp? I understand fish comes frozen but if your service is to cook and serve food and all you did was reheat stuff smh. Thaw the fish, bread the fish, and then fry it up fresh. No one is expecting fresh caught fish in the mountains but take 1/2 an ounce of pride in what you're doing. Seriously disappointed! read more

Ribs ribs ribs Let me just start with we never ever eat BBQ as hubby just doesn't like it. BBbutt this place has changed his mind. He is already figuring when to go back. Why. The Ribs Ribs and the Ribs Considering our lack of experience with eating BBQ these were the best dang ribs I have ever eaten. And I am comparing them to the ribs in Austin and Delhart Texas. So yep these are good The char on the outside was just right. The thin line of pink from the smoke perfect. Fall off the bone just perfect. Thank goodness we have left overs to enjoy this weekend. So drive past the casinos and their high price bland food and head up the road towards Central City and get ready to be fed. I would where pants with stretchy waistband because you will want to have room for those homemade desserts. read more

We're locals and prefer to send our business outside the casinos when we can. For lunch or dinner, this is one of the few options that fit. It's all smoked meat and it's prepared really well. My fave is the Pig Wings. The setting is nice; a bar, restaurant, garden room in a historical building They spend Sundays in the summer at the local farmer's market read more

This place is a gem! Had the loaded fries, rib tips, and lamb sandwich. It was so good we went for lunch and dinner. The location is amazing and full of history. The nice lady that helped us was very nice, warm, & inviting. They are family friendly, too! I definitely recommend! Go! You won't be disappointed. Martina was so wonderful and the food was just as perfect! It was my birthday and she brought out a special drink, was happy to share her experience in the town and all the best places to go in the area. We had the lamb, chicken po-boys, pulled pork, and pastrami- everything was delicious but the pastrami and tater tots and mac and cheese sides were our favorites :) Thanks so much Martina and Jen! read more

I really enjoyed the bbq lamb sandwich. I've tried several items on the menu and they are all delicious. The service is hit or miss. We've had some great servers and some that get annoyed when you ask for things and then remind them when they've forgotten to bring you your request. The location is great. The old bar and wood floors give the best place an old saloon/restaurant feel which adds to the experience. read more

Love this bbq. We had the mahi sandwich and pastrami. Both were delicious and Kaitlyn was such an amazing help. Would be a favorite if we lived near. read more

Worst restaurant we've experienced in decades. Food so bad we couldn't eat it. A BBQ restaurant allegedly famous for its ribs, yet it was out of ribs early in the evening. A surly waitress with no clue. What more can we say? JKQ is pathetic. FYI, we were there on August 16. read more

We happened into JKQ by chance- just walking by. The staff are super friendly & the atmosphere is totally cool! The history in this building is palpable. My kids sat at a marble top table & were thrilled to be "in" history. The food is amazing! My picky kids loved all their choices: Chicken Caesar salad, fries (of course! ), beans - OMG the beans! You'd think it was Jack & the Beanstalk magic means! Amazing, multi-layered flavor! If we weren't so stuffed from the ribs & pulled pork, we'd definitely ordered more beans! I'm actually going to call them magic beans- they're that good! The sauce on them! Wowza! We came to Colorado to see Blues Traveler play Red Rocks on the 4th. We're planning a trip every year & including JKQ BBQ on our itinerary too! (And a show at the Teller House) read more

First of all, what a location!! Refreshing to just walk into a restaurant in Blackhawk and get straight to the good stuff - the food! And the interior is as historic and pretty as the outside! The food was delicious, so much meat on my brisket sandwich! And the beef? Ahhhhhh, perfectly cooked! I didn't love the sauces, tbh, I'd have liked more heat in the hot one, but they did the job. Doing an even better job is the staff, I was heartily welcomed and after sitting at the bar solo had just the right amount of interaction with the server tending to me. She was pleasant and thoughtful, checking in, made conversation here and there, and then letting me be to work a bit. Food was delivered quickly and with a smile, and my water glass stayed full even as I was especially thirsty that day. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Blackhawk! read more

Highly recommend - in Crooks place. It's worth the stop and does not disappoint. Amazing customer service

Great food choices, friendly people, priced right with good portions. They have a lot of parking

Stopped for dinner while camping at cold storing in Arapaho National forest. Pulled pork was excellent. Sides were a 7/10. We had cold slaw, Baked beans and Mac and cheese. They were ok but all lacked flavor in our opinion. We do a lot of BBQ at our home smoker and I make the same sides do maybe we are spoiled. Restaurant was historic and fun to look at all the pictures, the bar was beautiful. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. We would go again. Okay read more
