Jose and his crew came out and climbed up our 30ft Queen palm. This tree had a lot of overgrowth and old seed pods. They made sure not poke the main trunk with their boot spikes. His crew used a climbing harness and proper line management to secure themselves. They even cleaned up some of our neighbor's Giant bird leaves that were creeping over our fence. Every 6 months for the last four years I hire a tree service to lace the trees, shape the hedges, trim the bamboo and clean up the palms. I've never used the same crew twice. Each time it's a different company but the issues are the same: they don't have the proper equipment to do the job well, I have to monitor them to complete the full scope of the job, they break things like the light fixtures, sprinkler line, wiring, and they don't really know what they are doing. Lacing a tree is an art, trimming a podocarpus hedge takes a good eye and a careful hand with cutters- not an electric trimmer. Enough about my previous experiences. I week ago I called JJ, on a Sunday, after finding his company on yelp. I was looking for someone I hadn't used before (I've been through 9 other companies) and I wanted to use a family owned business. He picked up and we set up a time for him to stop by and give me a bid. At our scheduled time he arrived and listened politely to everything I wanted to do. He pointed out a few things to me that needed attention, he did it in a professional and polite way. In his explanation I could tell he had more than just a lot of years under his belt, he takes classes and reads articles to stay up on his trade. And I know it wasn't up-selling, because there were a few things I wanted to have done and he explained that I could/should wait on it and he gave me a sensible explanation why. The day after he stopped by he gave me a bid that was reasonably priced. We locked on for the job to be scheduled a week later. On the day of the job he showed up with a cherry picker that goes about 50 feet up, another truck outfitted with a wood chipper and a professional crew. They showed up on time with the right tools for the job. For the first time in four years the bamboo was cut the right way! The podocarpus hedges were cleaned up beautifully. Everything was done perfectly, nothing was broken, and the crew cleaned up everything. I think they even cleaned up more than they had to just so I'd be happy. There was a couple things I asked him to trim a little more so it would be exactly to my liking and he didn't mind at all. I think there were 5 or 6 guys in the crew, some paired up to tackle stuff and others worked individually. He walked around checking on each of them. Directing them here and there. His crew have been with him awhile and have learned a lot over the years so he doesn't have to monitor each one constantly. Still he keeps a close eye on the work. I couldn't be happier with the work they did. My search is over. I will be using JJ only from here out. And I'm going to see if I can convince him to work in my area for weekly maintenance (mowing and blowing) - seriously, that's how good he is. Aside from being good, he shows up when he says he will, and does everything he says he will. That's pretty rare. read more

We needed a really huge job completed in our backyard. We needed a huge Melaleuca tree removed and it was a tough job to do. We were quoted a very decent price and we were very happy. Unfortunately, there was an incident we had NO IDEA would happen. A very mentally ill neighbor screamed and complained from a block down at the workers, even after notifying him of work being done. Jose penalized us by raising the price for the work done, and then blamed us for the man going crazy. He continually mentioned how we should have told him. This was my first real time using Yelp for a service verses finding a restaurant. We contacted J&J to come out and give us a quote to have a very large pine tree removed from the slope in our backyard. Jose was prompt for our appointment and gave us a very fair quote so we went with him. He even pointed out some damage, spikes to climb trees, done by a previous tree service to some of our queen palms. The day of the removal, Jose and his crew showed up on time. He listed to my concerns about trying to minimize damaging sprinklers and debris falling into out pool. He and his guys got right to work. My neighbors to the side and at the top of the hill, along with us, watch as Jose and his crew meticulously sawed away part after part of the tree. All along mindfully of my previous concerns. After the tree was removed, the crew did a good job at cleaning up the pathway from the slope to the trucks out front. My tree is close to the power lines and for safety must be maintained at a safe distance. J & J came out and took care of my tree when no other company was able to help me.
