The food had some highlights, but unfortunately the service and several other issues made for a disappointing experience. When we had questions about menu items, our server was unable to provide any additional information and simply responded that "it's whatever is written on the menu." That was not helpful and did not reflect the level of service I would expect. The wood-fired chicken was very good--moist, flavorful, and one of the best parts of the meal. However, the steak was ordered medium and arrived significantly overcooked. To make matters worse, the pizza I ordered never arrived because the server failed to enter it into the order. The biggest concern came when the check arrived. We were charged for a bottle of wine that we never ordered, which required us to question and correct the bill. Additionally, a 20% gratuity was automatically added even though the menu states that automatic gratuity applies only to parties of 8 or more, and our party consisted of just 6 people. While the kitchen did produce some good food, the combination of unhelpful service, missed orders, an overcooked steak, and billing errors made for a frustrating experience. This restaurant looks really nice and cozy when you first walk through the door, probably because the lights are quite dim. I was very excited to try their chicken as I did see it roasting from one of the side windows. Unfortunately, I am not really a big rotisserie chicken person so the Nuroongji Cheese Corn was just okay for me. The crispy rice on the bottom was quite addicting for me though because I am a texture person. The people was a little softer than I usually like it but it was super cheesy and I didn't mind because I just let it sit out for a little longer for the rice cakes to cook down allowing the texture to become more favorable. My favorite which I did not see coming was the fried oysters. They tasted super fresh and flavorful with the perfect crunch. Just be careful as there are juices flowing within. The service was okay. We decided to go to JJ Dak on Christmas eve, when they were super busy, but we got a table luckily without much waiting. This was our first visit in couple of years. The place mostly remained the same, similar interior, bar area and even the menu items were also similar. Other than our favorite Nuroongji dak woodfired chicken, we also ordered wings, mac and corn cheese, squid fries and fried oysters. We loved all the dishes and feasted on all of them the night before Christmas. Despite being crazy busy, the food came out in short intervals and the service was decent. They have a bar area that is nice, but it's more a place you can wind down with some friends late at night. I had the mango habanero wings, bulgogi pizza and fries. Flavors are good and unique, but I don't know if they justify the price point. Dishes are around 20-35$. I didn't have the alcoholic drinks so I can't say for that. We had 20+ in our party, so ofc service will be a bit chaotic. For the most part, they were serving drinks ok. Only towards the end did we have to flag down servers for waters to be refilled. This was my second time visiting the restaurant and I always enjoy the environment and the food. The first time I went, I had the roasted chicken with corn and cheese which was yummy but some parts of the chicken felt a little dry. This time, I got the yangnyum fried chicken which is a sweet and spicy flavor. It looked very saucy at first but I was surprised by how delicious and not too salty it actually was! The crunch of the fried batter was also great given that it was doused in sauce. It was delicious but the portions felt small for how costly the dish is. The Ddukboki (spicy rice cakes) were also perfectly spicy which lots of fish cakes, cabbage, and cheese. Unfortunately, the Ddukboki was too soupy in my opinion. We also had the budaejjigae / army stew which also had a wide variety of ingredients and was made well but the soup was too salty. While the aesthetic of it was nice, the cheese was a bit too much. I love cheese, but this was a bit overwhelming. It was at a point where I didn't know if I was eating rice or cheese because of how much there was, but this is a personal preference. If I were to return, it'd definitely be just the standard Nuroongji Dak. We also ordered the white cabbage salad, and the flavor was interesting, but not in a way that I enjoyed. When you look at it, it looks like it'd taste like kimchi, but it was sweet and the dressings and all the other toppings just didn't really make sense to me.
