Real tasting food cooked at home!! That is not fast food taste. Extremely great tasting food and cheaper prices. Friendly waitresses and waiters. I felt like I was in loving home and eating lunch or dinner there. I wish they had more restaurants in smaller towns. read more

We tried Jim's for the first time this morning. Boy have we been missing out! The restaurant is friendly, welcoming, and the breakfast was great. The prices were also amazing. Eating at Jim's is like walking back into the 80s-90s and I mean that as a compliment. read more

Jim's will always hold a special place in my heart. I've been eating at this restaurant for close to 50 years. They have a full menu, but in my opinion, their breakfast is what sets them apart They have weekly specials, including a friends favorite half chicken on Fridays that she promises me is still one of the best values and best tasting meals around Today, I placed a takeout order to deliver some food to a friend who is currently housebound Eric took my order and a very friendly and professional manner. When I arrived, Holly greated with a smile I guess she was just stapling the bag with the final pieces of my order Checkout was smooth The food was packaged well and the food did not suffer any from being delivered to a house about 15 minutes away The breakfast taco of chorizo, potato, egg, and cheese was simply delicious m. Very generous serving, and although two tacos were ordered, one taco was definitely a meal in another itself. I normally separate the tortilla and layer in the salsa, but I could not break apart the tortilla because of the plentiful amount of cheese, prevented separation without destroying taco - not complaining just stating the fact. He doesn't love a lot of cheese on their breakfast taco lol The patty melt was good, my dining companion said it was not as stellar as normal. Apparently, they went a little bit like on the grilled onions, but other than that, the steak and the grilled bread were simply divine The pancake breakfast was thoroughly enjoyed. The buttermilk pancakes definitely hit the spot. Another hidden gem on the menu is their liver and onions. Overall, Jim's still delivers. read more

Been coming here for years. Does it have bells and whistles? No. Is it fancy dining? No. Is the decor posh and modern? Absolutely not. But what it is ; is a place where you can go to have a great meal at a fair price with great service. It's almost like time hasn't moved in decades inside and that's actually a refreshing thing to me now days. Breakfast never disappoints. Service is always sweet diner style. Hope the stress of the economy and the rising costs of lease leave this place alone. Have zero complaints ...well except how hard it is to choose a plate haha. Brenda was our server today and she's been our server before. Super sweet, helpful and responsive. She is such an asset of a waitress to have and she embodies what Jim's is. Yall come visit. read more

I hadn't eaten here in years, but walking back in felt like stepping into a memory I didn't realize I missed. One bite of that breakfast and it hit me -- I've been depriving myself of real, honest‑to‑goodness home‑cooked food. The flavors were exactly what breakfast should be: comforting, fresh, and made with care. And the waitstaff? Absolutely awesome. Friendly, attentive, and the kind of people who make you feel like you're a regular even when you haven't been in forever. If you want a breakfast that tastes like someone's grandma still runs the kitchen, this is the place. I won't be waiting years to come back again. read more

On a Sunday morning, we decided to have brunch. Luckily, my partner found Jim's Restaurant as an American style diner. We drove to the restaurant and found parking right away. We didn't have to wait very long after writing our name on the waiting list. We thought that the food should be okay because the waiting area was full of local patrons. Checking the reviews on Yelp, the chicken fried steak looked like the dish to get! I ordered the chicken fried steak with 2 eggs over easy, a side of fruit and wheat toast. The eggs were really good! The chicken fried steak was very dry and salty. The fruit was colorful and most of it was fresh enough. As we were eating, we wondered why it was so hard to breathe. Then we noticed black mold on the ceiling which was kind of everywhere. Looking at the couple in the booth behind us, they had a large dog sitting that was not a service dog, on the bench seat in the booth behind us. The dog wasn't so bad. After we paid for our meal, we looked up at the ceiling near the waiting area and saw more black mold in the ceiling which was very not okay. We won't be back. read more

this is the location we usually go to. The chopped steak is my favorite, but basically i like all their foods. One of the last old school american diners, i love that interior, also the smell of fresh coffee and pancakes when you step in. Service is always good, Brenda took good care of us. Only thing i miss, when they were open 24/7. All in all, what is there not to like at Jim's? We LOVE this place! read more

I went here on my lunch break hoping to get a nice decent good lunch in a timely fashion. I seated myself at the bar and proceeded to order a half-and-half, tea, and a double meat cheeseburger, and fries.. I had to remind a bartender after 10 minutes to bring me my drink, and shortly after that, my food was brought to me. Before I start speaking about the food, let me speak briefly on the gnat infestation at this place . The gnats we're not small they were pretty big in size. I had to keep swatting to keep them away from me flying around my face and flying on my food. You would think that a restaurant will be able to get that problem on the control. It was not a very welcoming situation because you cannot enjoy your food or your space. Asked for the hamburger and fries, everything about that food experience was bland and basic. There was nothing that stood out about Jim's. It was not $17 worth of food value. read more

Going to Jim's on a Sunday morning was such a feeling of nostalgia. There was about 9 parties in front of us but was able to get seated right away sitting at the bar. The staff was very friendly and quick, even with a Sunday rush they still were able to check in on you multiple times and get you what you need! The vibes of this restaurant makes you feel like you're back in the 1990s eating breakfast with your grandparents, the staff knowing your name and catching up with you about how your family is and why you haven't been around in the past few weeks (we saw this happen in real time and it was so cute). The food was really fresh and hot when it came out. I got there as breakfast with egg whites, bacon and pancakes and they were all really solid. Can't go wrong with these items. We also got the onion rings which were nicely battered and fried. I loved this place! Simple and good. read more

Stopped into Jim's Restaurant and ended up ordering their bacon cheeseburger--and wow, I'm glad I did. This thing is delicious. The patty is juicy, cooked just right, and full of flavor. The bacon is crispy without being overdone, adding that perfect smoky crunch with every bite. Add in the melted cheese and fresh toppings, and you've got a burger that hits all the right notes. Everything tasted fresh, balanced, and way better than your average diner burger. You can tell they actually care about putting out good food. If you're thinking about what to order at Jim's, do yourself a favor and go straight for the bacon cheeseburger. Absolutely worth it! read more

First let admit , I eat here several times a week. Many of the servers have been here a long time and know me as a regular. That said , I eat here often because it's the most consistently great food and service. But I wanted to add this tidbit that should make you feel good about dining here. I was on my motorcycle so didn't have my usual routine of gathering my belongings after eating. Somehow I left my cash wallet in the booth. I did not discover this until late that night. The next day I walk in and immediately they tell me , we have something for you. My wallet. With the $130 still in it. Great food great service great atmosphere and great honest people. read more

The service was very friendly and our waitress gave great recommendations for our food. Her name is Michelle. The ambiance seemed like a place to take your family to eat, it was homey inside. Always came to refill my coffee but I wish they had some other flavors of creamer. However, I didn't ask so they might have them. My food was cooked nicely, the eggs weren't overdone and the biscuit was actually nice and flaky. We also got the chicken fried steak which had some delicious seasonal jalepeno gravy on top but I wish it would've been crispier. Overall, I think they've got some great staples, the service is really nice and I like the old fashion diner style. We'd definitely come back here. read more

The food and service were excellent, but I was very concerned about the cleanliness of the restaurant. Several ceiling tiles appeared old, stained yellow, and some showed signs of mold. This was especially concerning over the booth seating areas where customers dine. The overall environment felt dusty and unsanitary. During my visit, I found a piece of dust/debris in my drinking water. I also observed a cook who was not wearing gloves or a hair net, and witnessed unhygienic behavior in the kitchen area. It seems management may not be prioritizing cleaning and food safety standards. I would strongly recommend a temporary closure for a deep cleaning to address these issues. I enjoy the food and hope to return in the future, but I cannot recommend dining here until the cleanliness and food handling practices are improved to meet health standards. To Management / Health Department, I dined at your establishment recently and wanted to provide feedback. While the food quality and service from the staff were excellent, These conditions do not align with standard health code requirements and pose a potential risk to public health. I respectfully suggest a temporary closure to conduct a thorough deep cleaning and staff retraining on food safety protocols. I plan to revisit in approximately two weeks. If these conditions have not been corrected, I will have no choice but to file a formal complaint with Austin Public Health / department. I appreciate your attention to this matter and hope to see improvements, as I would like to continue supporting your business. It's not a threat just worried about people getting sick. read more

Ordered online. It came extremely fast. Received stale and cold Country Fried Steak and hash. It was so bad I couldn't even finish it and I always clean my plate. Hit up Jim's on the way to a late night at cap comedy club. My niece wanted onion rings, burger & a shake and I wanted chicken, but eggs, and waffles. We knew in that moment only a diner would hit the way we needed. I recommend sitting at the bar for the full vibe and if you want pie, order that first as they run out quickly, My niece said that the Oreo shake was the best she had ever had. I dipped my chicken strips into a cream gravy that they put on the chicken fried steak. YUM & I don't even like gravy. I love a dive restaurant with great food & a real authentic vibe and Jim's diner is just that. Food reminds me a bit of the old Threadgill's food (before they closed) but in a true diner vibe. They are normally understaffed so be nice, sit, relax, and enjoy yourself or your company and solid diner food! Guaranteed you will meet some good new people in the process! read more

This was our first time at Jim@'s after hearing good things. It was a great experience!! First, they serve Pepsi here and they serve breakfast all day. The eggs were fresh, the gravy was delicious and the service was friendly and fast with no wait time on a Saturday morning. To be fair, we stopped in here while between things we had to do, just got coffee and beverages. We sat at the bar area and were not here long so the three stars is just do that that. It was crowded but we were up front with our server that we just were stopping in for a beverage and to discuss future plans. She was nice and fast without being overbearing. Place hasn't changed much in all the years it has been there. For a old fashioned, comfort food dinner this is the place to go. Nothing was wrong with our visit but we didn't do much or need much on this go round. read more

Why would this particular restaurant qualify for five stars? Furnishings are shabby and dated. I did not detect any environmental practices. There's so much room for improvement. Well... Take note, Yelp: This place is a gem! * When service is some of the best I have ever experienced. Shout out to the friendliest and most efficient waitress of my acquaintance: Ms Kaz! * When hardly any of the main courses are over $12. * When even two of the pickiest eaters (6 and 8 yrs) give new food two thumbs up. * When my $7.99 #1 Jim's Original Burger, fully loaded, is scrumptious. I ate every bite. And all the fries it came with. * When the food is prepared fresh. Not from cans! read more

Good solid old fashioned diner fare here. I ordered breakfast off the senior menu and it was plenty of food. Jim's is an absolute gem of an establishment. Local to the Austin area with several locations around town. Offering the old school diner feel and vibe to them. They serve all of your classic items and the portion sizes and prices are extremely affordable. Food was absolutely delicious I got their pancakes and southwest Omlette. We love Jim's. We go here for weekend breakfast between 2-4 times a month and it never disappoints. We have even started trying out dinner options there. I've tried so many things that it's hard to narrow down what is the best! Tried the breakfast tacos this morning and those were the bomb. Huge and delicious. Pancakes are tasty, eggs always cooked to perfection, yummy biscuits, crispy bacon, sides of fruit are huge portions and reasonably priced, delicious chicken fried steaks and gravy, pie (yes, please) - everything is just overall solid. The service is ALWAYS friendly and it's amazing watching the servers work. They are fast, efficient, and the orders are always correct. Hard working chefs in the back doing us all right every day. Would love to see this place get some upgrades because it's pretty beat up from years of serving this community but it definitely is just an old school diner. Solid American / diner fare with good portions and good prices. I ordered the Chicken Fried Breakfast (Steak) and Cinnamon Roll for me and the roommate and there was enough to go around for almost 4 people. Unlike a lot of the major breakfast chains, the eggs tasted like they didn't come from a box and the chicken fried steak was pretty tender and the crust was crisp. There wasn't an incredible amount of flavor variety and seasoning, but it was good solid food that was cooked well. The hash browns could have been cooked a bit more thoroughly and the biscuits were a little bit dry, but otherwise I have no complaints. read more

This place reminds me of my childhood in the 80's...amazing food and superb service. Truly a taste of vintage Austin.

Listen yall, this isn't fine dining or some hip restaurant. I rate based on category of restaurant. To me this hits all the marks for a diner. Quick service, counter seating, traditional american staples. A bit of a clean up (not an updated) on some of the furniture and bathrooms would be good. My go to is the half sandwich (BLT) and half soup (tortilla). Great value and very delicious. read more

I placed a to-go order. My order came back incorrect. I called back to the store to share my order was incorrect. They asked me to come back to pick up the rest. They would NOT refund me. Jim's might not be a hip place for you to be seen at and maybe not be the best place for fancy photos but the food specifically the breakfast and sandwiches are really good . For an old diner that's definitely seen it's better days the staff is composed of some of the most friendly down to earth people you will meet in North Austin . This location is the only one I can speak for as I have not had the same experience at other Jim's Diners . When we walk in everyone greets us and for the handful of times we have eaten here the entire wait staff knows us by name . Tell me how many high end restaurants you go to and spend tons of money to have an " experience " that you walk into and the waitstaff even cares to bat an eye at you ? Yes I like dinning out expanding my pallet and being introduced to new cultures all through culinary arts but it's nice to have a down to earth simple meal done rite with a smile and great service . I love the club sandwiches here at Jim's they also have an off the menu club called the Colorado club that comes with ham and melted cheese toasted on the flat top . But what I really love here at Jim's is breakfast . They have amazing cinnamon rolls which are good with coffee . The pancakes are way better than ihop which has gone down hill as of lately and the hash-browns are always crisp never soggy . Believe it or not Jim's has amazing breakfast tacos as well including my go to Chorizo egg and cheese . These come with a choice of one or two tacos and a side of ridiculously good refried beans and hash browns . But if your not into breakfast the spaghetti and Texas garlic toast is a close second rite after the Patty melts . You can always ask for half fries and half onion rings with burgers or sandwiches if you can't decide which you like better and finish off the meal with a delicious slice of pie . Jim's will always be one of those places you can rely on getting an excellent meal if you not feeling fancy and want to save a buck or two because it extremely reasonably priced . I do recommend going for breakfast or lunch to get the best service and they close at 8 now after covid . Hope you give them a try next time you want a decent breakfast any day of the week . read more
