Since their best food isn't too healthy (who is going to order healthy food at a place like this?!) and it's not cheap, we haven't gone back in a long time. I do miss it though! These folks seem to be doing an excellent job of keeping things clean and sanitized while still offering the same great food and good service. I feel comfortable eating in here. Today is one of my first indoor restaurant dining forays. Love love it here. Tried the cheeseburger for the first time ! Wow. The fries were great too!

The atmosphere is reminiscent of the late 60's early 70's diners that we used to stop at when traveling on vacation. They claim all food is made from scratch and locally sourced. I had the club sandwich which was huge and substituted onion rings for fries. The onion rings were thin and crispy and a definite recommendation. Everything I've had at Jim's though is tasty especially their chicken tortilla soup. It is THE BEST chicken tortilla soup. I've tried others, many others. I've tried them in San Antonio and Austin. Nothing compares to Jim's. It has the right mixture of broth, cheese, chicken, and tortilla strips. The broth is something I could drink alone. They have it available as a cup or bowl. Early Sunday morning. Hardly a car on the road. Media and society are hyped about Corona Virus. So restaurants seem more empty these days. I enter a clean facility. Immediately greeted. Offered table or booth. Booths aren't fat man pleasant. So we waddled to the tables and chairs section. To my delight within 30 seconds I'm greeted again and asked for beverage requirements. Within 90 seconds I have my water and fresh coffee! Tricia was my server and I give her props. My coffee was warmed up regularly and not a once was I dry. The meal: I did the big breakfast platter with three eggs, three meats, hash browns and biscuits. Please recall above, I've already declared my undying love for my cardiologist. Well I said it differently above... I think you get the gist. Hash browns were bland and could be cooked longer. Sausage patty was underwhelming. Monday meatloaf and Friday catfish are the days to come. Their lunch special is a great deal, comes with 2 sides and a beverage. The staff is generally hospitable ( wouldn't say overly friendly) and efficient. Both the meatloaf and fried catfish are really good. These are the days I try to come. Portions are generous and em the price is right. Come try the lunch specials or the other items on the menu which I've never tried but a friend has tried several and all where food. This is a very popular and overrated breakfast restaurant in Austin. My favorite thing about this restaurant is that it is opened 24 hours. My family and I visited and it was quiet for the most part. It took a long time for the food to come out given that there weren't that many customers. The waiter seemed like he didn't want to be there either. He argued with us about if we ordered drinks or not, which was weird...Our food eventually came out so I was happy about that. My Omelette was decent, but nothing too special. The biscuit was very underwhelming. I absolutely loved their hash browns! Overall, I wouldn't suggest coming here. Only come here if it's your last choice. read more

First place we found after my looong visit to the DPS that served breakfast. The hostess promptly seated us and told us who are waitress would be. I looked at her and said please I need coffee desperately. Dang! She immediately went behind the counter grab cups and poured us some coffee. She made me very happy. When our waitress arrived shortly after, we both ordered the Eggs and bacon. He got the hash browns and raisin toast and I the grits and flaky biscuit. It helps to go on off hours for breakfast because our food came out fast. I don't know whether it was because I was famished or what. This breakfast was the best I ever ate. The scrambled eggs so light and fluffy, Bacon was crispy and I didn't have to ask for it that way, biscuit was warm and flaky, grits were served with butter on the side. I mention this because I never use the butter but sprinkle a little sugar on top like cereal. Yes, I know, this is a Yankee thing. Both of us finished everything on our plates, it was so good. I have to admit that I love IHOP because they leave the pot of coffee at your table so no waiting. Went to Jim's on Mother's Day for brunch and this time I had to wait. Not long but I expected it. I also went it if my comfort zone and opted for the Cowboy Sandwich instead of my usual pancakes. Hubby ordered a pork chop meal and my son of course ordered shrimp. My sandwich was good and simple. Sausage and eggs in a Texas toast with some hash browns. Ordered the migas - a scrambled eggs, peppers, onions, ranchero (red) sauce all piled on top of one another with two cheeses on top and side of beans and hash browns, $7.39. Yum, Yum. Eggs, hash browns and beans were perfect. Asked for a side of sausage to sample, I've noticed Texas sausage is a little bland, at least the plain pork sausage. Will look for other types. Of course there is social distancing between booths but I did observe the staff diligently keeping tables and the restaurant clean. Food was good; average for this type of establishment.
