Good lamb and beef skewers! Mostly for the seasoning, super super lean meat too, which is good if you're looking for some solid protein. Service was a tad slow, but no biggie
On a freezing Friday evening in St. Marks, Jiang's Kitchen fed our large group of 8 pretty fast and served us the most authentically-flavored Chinese halal food. I would give 6 stars if I could! We ordered an assortment of dishes from hot and sour cucumber [5/5], sauteed cumin lamb [6/5 - would highly recommend], diced chicken with hot peppers [6/5], baked buns topped with lamb ribs [6/5], and a couple more that I can't remember. I mean it when I say that all 8 of us were thoroughly impressed by the meal and enjoyed every single dish. Although all the dishes border on the saltier side, that's my taste preference so I thought they were seasoned perfectly. The dishes at Jiang's walk the perfect line between spicy and flavorful. Everything we ate had the taste of authentic Chinese cuisine. By the time we finished our meal at 8PM, the restaurant was completely full and had a line out the door. Service was great at handling the busy restaurant and still being both attentive and friendly. I would 100% come back here to try even more of their many options of dishes. :)
Jiang's Kitchen was very delicious, and we really enjoyed celebrating our Valentine's dinner here together. Our favorite dish by far was the lamb skewers -- they were so good that we ordered them twice. They were juicy, perfectly seasoned, and easily the best value on the menu. The General Tso's chicken had good flavor, but the batter was a bit too thick, making it overly crunchy with not much chicken inside, so it wasn't my favorite. We also ordered the sizzling beef platter; while it tasted fine, the portion didn't quite match what was advertised in the menu photo, which was a bit underwhelming. In terms of the service it was okay, they definitely need more waitstaff as the restaurant was busy and they were running around so it was hard to grab their attention. The ambiance was okay as well not a fine dining establishment by any means but the food definitely makes up for it. The restroom was also very cold with no heat but clean. I am sure there can be improvements made in the future. Overall, we'd definitely come back for the lamb skewers and would love to try some different dishes next time.
I ordered a delivery from this interesting and unique Northwestern China and Uighur Halel cuisine. I had Lamb Shumai, Hot and Sour Cucumbers, Wood Ear Mushrooms with Chinese Vinegar and Chili Oil, Hand-rolled Noodles with Spiced Minced Beef, Salt and Pepper Jumbo Shrimp, Xinjiang Big Plate Chicken with Noodles, Sautéed Noodles with Cumin Lamb, and Sautéed Vegetables with Rice Cake. Generally, the food was quite good. The stand out dishes were the Salt & Pepper Shrimp, Hand-rolled Noodles with Spicy Minced Beef, and the Sautéed Noodles with Cumin Lamb. Clearly cumin lamb is the house specialty and I would advise ordering more of that, such as the lamb ribs or other lamb dishes. The hand-rolled noodles are excellent, as are the rice noodles. I would avoid the rice cake, but that is a matter of taste. I found the Big Plate Chicken to be tasty on top of the included flat noodles, but a little dry and not as good as the lamb. The Lamb Shumai is very good, also. Packing is excellent and delivery was fast. Highly recommended.
Authentic and legiit food!!! Speedy service and they seat you in record time. Didnt even book a resrevation and got table in few mins on a friday night!! Every thing on menu looked amazingg but we loved their beef pulled noodles and beef with cumin. Best part medium spicey was just the right amount not too much to handle. Service was great and cant wait to back again!!! Place is always busy!!
Stumbled across this restaurant on the way to another place but looked inside and wanted to try it! Service was prompt and had no wait on a weekday. I enjoyed the pitchers of iced lemon water since we had just went to a run club. Food was yummmmm and prices were solid, especially liked the lamb dishes although the ribs were very fatty. Worth the stop!

Great food, served fresh out the kitchen like fajitas. Lamb was cooked perfectly and the rice rubbed in the fond underneath was a delight. Reasonable price ($18) compared to some other things on the menu, service was straightforward. Will definitely be back again!
Delicious food and great service! All of the dishes were flavorful and the meet was perfectly tender. My friends dropped their chopsticks (lol) twice and the server noticed quickly to replace. We never had to struggle to get water refills or the waiters attention, which I'm finding is not that common in NYC. Prices were expensive for Chinatown but cheap for overall new york. The restaurant was not too crowded, but was buzzing enough where we could comfortably catch up!
I've been meaning to come here for a while because I love big plate chicken and there aren't a lot of Chinese restaurants in the city that I know of that do it (other than Spicy Village in Chinatown). I also love northwestern Chinese food and cumin lamb and wish there were more places like this in Manhattan. We of course got the big plate chicken and the stir fried cumin lamb and they were both delicious - super flavorful and slightly spicy. We didn't make a reservation and were able to walk in during dinner time on the weekend. Highly recommend!
So good! Came on Mother's Day so it was understandably busy, but the food was delicious and the portion sizes were generous. Service was fine--nothing standout, but no complaints either. Definitely a hole-in-the-wall gem I'd come back to. Highly recommend if you're in the area!
Was seated quickly, the lighting is good and the food is very cumin-y :) As seen in the pictures, we ordered the BBQ Lam Ribs, the Noodles with Chicken, and the Sizzling Plate with beef. Everything tasted fantastic, I will say that the BBQ Lamb Ribs my favorite taste-wise, but I felt it was overpriced.
Didn't know a halal hotpot restaurant exists in Manhattan. You have to ask for the hotpot menu, otherwise, you'll get the regular menu. The min order for hotpot is $50 & it's not all you can eat. This place is also closed from 3:30-5 on weekdays. Anyway, we got steamed beef shumai (6pcs for $10) & sizzling beef rice ($16). The shumai is scalding hot, so beware unless you want a burnt tongue. This is basically like xiao long bao btw. It's good, I liked the flavor. The sizzling rice with beef has a very strong cumin smell, meaning it smells like armpit. Once you get over the smell, the beef is actually pretty good. It's flavorful. I just wish it had less onion & more beef. The beef to onion ratio is off. It was mostly onion with rice.
Great prices and great flavors. Menu is Halal-friendly! The service was a bit slow but that might have been to not rush this. Will return sometime soon to try their hotpot (although it's a little pricey for hot pot). It's a pretty casual place but great for friend or casual date. read more

We came here to try the lamb dishes. My favorites were the lamb ribs and the sautéed bok choy with garlic. I didn't care for the lamb skewers and kidney skewers which were dry and tough. We were the only table here at a rainy weekday during lunch so the service was good. The lamb dumplings had thin skin but flavor was just ok. I would return just for the lamb ribs and the sautéed bok choy. read more

Wow, the BBQ lamb ribs are awesome. So juicy and flavorful, the meat is tender and the spices they give you are perfect too. We came with 2 kiddos and I appreciated that they put the spices on the side (the red was too spicy for the kids). The skewers were also delicious. We saw people eating oxtail at the table next to us, which looked appetizing and a few tables ordered hotpot. Overall everything coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great, the service was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was comfortable. The interior is pretty casual, not too upscale, and the prices are reasonable. Can't wait to come again! read more
The old Jiang diner couple blocks away closed down and relocated to this location with new name. I came with high expectations but didn't leave satisfied. Me and my friend came for restaurant week which is really good deal for $29 choose from 3 courses. Overall all the dishes are a little blend, compare to authentic XingJiang food. The restaurant week price is lower also they cut down the portion, the BBQ lamb ribs only came in 4 ribs small size. Shumai also only 4 pieces instead of normal order of 6. The big tray chicken is prob the worst I had in New York. There's no bold flavor, more like just low sodium soy braised and the noodle is soggy no texture. There's only one man running the whole place, service got a big slow and hard to get his attention to get water and check. Honestly I won't come back again, would go to flushing for a better quality at a cheaper price read more

All their dishes looked great and were very fragrant. However, I'm someone who is use to strong flavors and still found their dishes extremely salty. Their shumai dish was okay, but their lamb kebab dish paired with the naan bread was quite nice. read more
Had this last week. It was great! If you like spicy and food that has a homemade feeling to it, Jiang's kitchen is your place. The waiter mentioned that their original store (the owner is the chef!) was from fifth street. Nevertheless, my sister love this place and she is super happy to see them back to business!! Delicious halal Chinese Uyghur food, although prices are a bit on the high side. We had the lunch specials which came with a simple clear chicken soup. The sauteed noodles in traditional sauce is delicious and a bit smoky in flavor! The spice level can be adjusted. There is few options for the noodle type. I chose the hand rolled noodles since it was unique. The lamb shank was a bit too salty. Not a big fan. The lamb bun was good but I had tastier. The lamb kebab was delicious! I recommend the lamb kebab and the noodles. read more
Jiang's kitchen deserves all the hype! We haven't had such a satisfied Xinjiang cuisine for a while. N we can't wait to come back for another try. We had their special hand made noodle. Their Da PAn Ji n sizzling beef rice. Everything is perfect. Each one is season well great with flavor n reminds me of how good Chinese cuisine has been developed over the years. Overall: a must try. It's not expensive. They have a huge portion size where it can feed 4 people with 3 dishes. N it only costs 70 dollars in this inflation period. Go enjoy Jiangs's kitchen. read more

This place is so good, highly recommend. For a place on saint marks, there is never a wait and bonus points for being BYOB for now. The stir fried noodles are so flavorful. - beef shumai was a bit dry - sour cabbage had sesame oil, hot oil and vinegar flavors and was refreshing - fried cumin lamb noodles was the best dish we got - baked bread with lamb rib was not my favorite, the bread was really fresh and crunch however the lamb was a bit bland in a stew form. the dish was a bit pricey but enough to feed a few people - lamb skewer- delicious seasoned well read more
This is my review for which could be skewed because I did delivery. I ordered the lamb skewer and sizzling lamb over the rice and it was really average. The dish was fine but I was expecting to be blown away since I believe this spot specializes in lamb. I've had better Xinjiang lamb around the city than this. Wouldn't recommend you take a trip but if it's close to you, sure why not read more

Ok, I didn't want to rain on the parade because it is a HALAL hotpot restaurant but 1. the food is not worth it for the price. we ordered 3 meats and some veggies and the total came out to 160$ 2. charging us for sauce- 5$ and some pickled garlic for 5$ (we didnt even ask for the pickled garlic) 3. 7$ for a few leaves of cabbage?! lmao worst hotpot ive been to ever. not worth it. food is mediocre. read more

Absolutely love Uyghur cuisine! my new favorite in NYC. We got the fried lamb with cumin powder. My first time ever having deep fried lamb but wow the hot sauce it came with was superb. We also got the BBQ lamb ribs which was dripping with fat. I mean a lot of fat. The baked lamb bun was ok, I've had better. Bok Choi is a delicious garlicky must. My favorite dish was the sautéed noodles with lamb in cumin flavor. This can easily replace Xian Famous Foods hand pulled noodles for me as a halal alternative. I wish they had cumin lamb skewers. Used to have these all the time in China and I miss em! Also wish there was more obvious halal branding. read more
The food was decent We ordered the Big Plate Chicken and Lamb dumplings. Portions were surprisingly generous. I was afraid this wouldn't be enough food for two- but we were surprisingly full at the end. The Big Plate Chicken was pretty saucy and salty. We got the bone in and while some pieces were tender, we found a lot of the meat a bit tough. The noodles that came with it were also not very chewy and fell a little soggy. More noodles also would have been nice to balance out the sauciness. The skin of the lamb dumplings were delicious- very chewy and perfectly thin. The filling was also pretty good but also found it to be a bit salty. I also wished it was a bit more flavorful. Still a pretty decent meal all things considered and service was very nice! read more
We were hungry and in the neighborhood when we saw Jiang's Kitchen and their soft opening sign in the window. (They are running a little promotion right now until before Thanksgiving.) After a quick glance at the menu, we were excited to go in and honestly a really amazing meal. The interior is deceptively spacious for a spot you could easily miss if you walked past with plenty of seating inside and modern but cozy. The menu isn't terribly long but we still had trouble narrowing it down to what we wanted to try this first visit. The three of us ended up getting: + Hot & sour cucumber - we were actually a little surprised by how much we loved this? I love Chinese cucumber appetizers and make a version at home all the time, but this one had such an incredible sauce, not too spicy, not too sour, a little bit sweet, a wee bit of savory to really pump up the flavor. Don't sleep on this one, it's so refreshing and good! (It was one person's favorite thing we ordered!) + Big plate chicken - got the smaller size, which is a HEFTY portion for one person, and it is a generous amount of incredibly succulent and juicy chicken and some veg (potatoes, bell peppers) coated in a savory sauce served over some wide noodles that looked hand-cut? Really tasty, if a tiny bit saltier than I was expecting, but super tasty and really satisfying. I'd definitely recommend getting the large if you have someone to share with, and the boneless comes at an extra charge but is very convenient for just shoveling into your mouth + Hand-rolled noodles with the tomato sauce and lamb, medium spice - please note these are hand-ROLLED and not hand-pulled, which means the form factor for these are individual pieces that are rolled, so more like a shorter pasta than a long noodle. I really love hand-rolled noodles because they hold a lot of sauce the middle, and the tomato sauce was my personal favorite of the ones we tried. For folks familiar with Chinese tomato dishes (like tomato with egg), this is a familiar flavor that was still surprising for us because it had more depth than the simple tomato-egg flavor while still retaining that very tomato-y flavor and the freshness of it. I liked that it was a bit sweet and very umami and this is kind of my favorite sauce right now~ + Rice noodles with spicy minced beef sauce and beef, medium spice - admittedly, there was not as much beef in this as we would have liked but the sauce was still (chef's kiss). This one will feel more familiar for folks who haven't had much northwestern Chinese food and will not disappoint Our server was also very kind and attentive, bringing us new water bottles before we even poured the last cup from our old one. Fantastic halal Chinese restaurant in downtown. We've been there several times and I can finally get to leaving a review. I'm told by my Chinese wife this restaurant serves somewhat fusion food rather than authentic northeastern Chinese food but I still think it's worth visiting to satisfy your Chinese food cravings or to diversify your list of ethnic restaurants you like visiting in NY. We had oxtail soup, lamb meatballs winter melon soup and sizzling rice with beef. Winter melon soup was a bit too spicy for us but all the food was awesome. The atmosphere was very nice and the waiter was also very attentive despite the restaurant being relatively full. read more

I enjoyed the food with my girlfriend and shared both dish which made her and I full. I believe the chicken comes with free white rice just ask to double check. This a great spot for authentic Northeast Chinese cuisine. The noodles are fresh, the sauce was full of cumin and chili. They also other great options on the menu including "dough with tomatoes" - a dish often eaten by monks in rhe Qinghai province of China. The space is spacious and low-key, a nice place relax and unwind. A great spot in the St. Marks Place area. I've travelled to China 28 times and have been to this region twice in rhe late 90s. Everyone deserves to experience another delicious cuisine in the Chinese culinary landscape. This place is Halal-friendly as well. read more
Wow. The food here is amazing! I tried the wood ear mushroom with black vinegar, the lamb shui mai, the sizzling cumin rice with lamb, and the hand rolled wheaten noodles with tomato sauce and vegetables. The lamb dumplings were my favorite, I've never had a dumpling that juicy and savory, honestly amazing. The hand rolled noodles were chewy and the sauce was addictive and coated everything. The vegetables provided a nice crunch to the dish. Honestly everything was so good I can't wait to come back and eat the rest of the menu & it's halal! read more
Restaurant week is back in NYC! Pretty solid food. Love the stewed lamb ribs and chicken plate. The meat in both dishes are tender, juicy, and well-seasoned. But, the potato in the chicken dish is a little undercooked. The soup dumpling and the baked lamb bun are kinda disappointed. The skin of soup dumpling is a little dry, also don't really like their sauce as it is a little too sour. Cucumber and wood ear mushroom in chilli oil are okay. Price is probably the cheapest among all the restaurants that participate in restaurant week - $29 for dinner/person. read more

Jiang's Diner is back and it's back as Jiang's Kitchen! I'm so glad this spot is back. When I visited their previous location I absolutely love the CUISINE and was so happy to see traditional Xinjiang cuisine that was Halal! Food: The food here is seasoned with traditional cumin seasoning so expect it to be a little bit more on the salty side and it's super savory. I love their sizzling rice with cumin flavor and I get it with lamb but I'm sure it will taste just as good with chicken too (have yet to try that!) The steamed beef shumai is excellent and I always start off my meal with that. I was particularly blown away by the lamb ribs barbecue which is a very big portion of lamb ribs seasoned with cumin and it comes with a side of bread and extra seasoning. It was so juicy, tender, flavorful and a really good option for large groups. Service: The food comes out fairly quickly and the servers are really on top of your meals and are super kind in suggesting items and explaining the menu for those who aren't familiar with the cuisine! Ambiance: There's a decent amount of seating so large groups are definitely able to come and dine here. I also noticed that it was very clean which is obviously a major plus! Super underrated halal Chinese spot! They specialize in northern Chinese cuisine and have something for everyone. The restaurant itself, though located in East Village, is quite spacious and would be good for large groups. It also usually isn't too crowded and is easy to get a spot last minute. All the staff is very nice. Our favorite things to order: Appetizers: BBQ skewers - both beef & chicken - we tried the chicken for the first time during our last visit and I actually preferred it to the beef! Beef dumplings - sometimes a hit or miss, we don't get these every time but will if we're craving dumplings Beef wonton in sour soup - w got this last time and really enjoyed it! The soup is sour, tangy, and very vinegar-y so just be prepared for that but the wontons/dumplings with the soup make for a great combo! Entrees: Sizzling cumin lamb - This is actually listed as an appetizer but it's perfect to share for 2. I seriously crave these some days! That perfect season, delicious sauce/marinade, served with rice. Noodles in traditional sauce with beef or chicken - we usually get it with rice noodles - the noodles and sauce are addictive! I will admit that it's slightly on the pricey side but I do think that it's a very unique halal option and in the city which somewhat justifies it! The restaurant itself is also very clean, they have prayer mats in a small corner in the back where we were able to pray, and the bathrooms are clean as well. They also have hotpot that I've heard is delicious and can't wait to come back to try!! Definitely recommend if you're looking to stay in or visit the city and need a good halal option for dinner! read more

MOLDY FOOD + BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE Never come to this place! We found a Moldy bun they served as shown in the picture. OMG, this is not the worst. We talked to their waiter and their cook came out and called me "B* word, what do you want?!" the cook didn't even care about food SAFETY and said "it's just a MOLD". Totally speechless about what happened to us as customers here and its Just totally ruined our day. read more

This place has some of the MOST FLAVORFUL dishes, and I'm specifically talking about the baked buns topped with stewed lamb. Everyone in my group was blown away with the tiered level of tastes within this dish. The general tso chicken was also pretty good and the beef shumai was wonderful. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes!! The staff is very sweet and friendly and there's plenty of seating with cute decor around. Overall, if you're looking for delicious Chinese food with clean ingredients, look no further!! read more
