First time trying a halal hot pot and wasn't too bad. It was a relaxing atmosphere but we were cold (space heaters weren't doing much!). Our waiter did mix up an item (we ordered the minced beef noodle but instead received the rice noodle w traditional sauce) but he didn't bother to change it. He did get it right for takeout order though. Points to be noted: - needs additional waiters especially on weekends - place needs to be warmer especially when the temperature outside is in the single digits (visited on 2/3/23) - base for hot pot was mediocre; definitely lacked salt and was very bland A place to try once especially since it's halal but no more that that. read more

We ordered takeout from Jiang's Kitchen on a random Saturday afternoon and we were excited to try it. My brother has mentioned Jiang's on multiple occasions but for one reason or another we never came. We ordered the big plate chicken, two chicken skewers and a lamb skewer. We went not impressed. There was too much potatoes in the big plate chicken and it left a gritty texture on the whole dish. It was also more salty that what I'm used too. Wow, the BBQ lamb ribs are awesome. So juicy and flavorful, the meat is tender and the spices they give you are perfect too. We came with 2 kiddos and I appreciated that they put the spices on the side (the red was too spicy for the kids). The skewers were also delicious. We saw people eating oxtail at the table next to us, which looked appetizing and a few tables ordered hotpot. Overall everything coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great, the service was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was comfortable. The old Jiang diner couple blocks away closed down and relocated to this location with new name. I came with high expectations but didn't leave satisfied. Me and my friend came for restaurant week which is really good deal for $29 choose from 3 courses. Overall all the dishes are a little blend, compare to authentic XingJiang food. The restaurant week price is lower also they cut down the portion, the BBQ lamb ribs only came in 4 ribs small size. Shumai also only 4 pieces instead of normal order of 6. The big tray chicken is prob the worst I had in New York. There's no bold flavor, more like just low sodium soy braised and the noodle is soggy no texture. There's only one man running the whole place, service got a big slow and hard to get his attention to get water and check. The sauteed noodles in traditional sauce is delicious and a bit smoky in flavor! The spice level can be adjusted. There is few options for the noodle type. Their Da PAn Ji n sizzling beef rice. Everything is perfect. Each one is season well great with flavor n reminds me of how good Chinese cuisine has been developed over the years. Overall: a must try. This hole in the wall on St. Marks was actually insanely good value for the food. We got the crispy chicken, lamb skewers, ribs, and a few other bites. Everything was delicious - the lamb was perfectly cooked and had the right amount of spices/garnish to compliment the meat, and the chicken was awesome with the seasoning/crunch. Service was also prompt and friendly. My only issue with this place is how bare bones the interior is and relatively unwelcoming the outside is. If this place got a modern interior and exterior facelift and pitched itself as a new/modern twist on uyghur food, it would be SWARMED with people (rightfully so, the food is outstanding). I'm told by my Chinese wife this restaurant serves somewhat fusion food rather than authentic northeastern Chinese food but I still think it's worth visiting to satisfy your Chinese food cravings or to diversify your list of ethnic restaurants you like visiting in NY. Absolutely love Uyghur cuisine! my new favorite in NYC. We got the fried lamb with cumin powder. My first time ever having deep fried lamb but wow the hot sauce it came with was superb. We also got the BBQ lamb ribs which was dripping with fat. I mean a lot of fat. The baked lamb bun was ok, I've had better. Bok Choi is a delicious garlicky must. Me and my friend came when this restaurant had their soft opening. They offered 15% off the total bill. I loved their original location at Jiang Diner and loved it here. The portions are massive, the food is hearty and delicious. The bbq lamb was phenomenal. The cumin rub on top was so tasty. I love the restaurant and look forward to be being back. We were hungry and in the neighborhood when we saw Jiang's Kitchen and their soft opening sign in the window. (They are running a little promotion right now until before Thanksgiving.) After a quick glance at the menu, we were excited to go in and honestly a really amazing meal. The interior is deceptively spacious for a spot you could easily miss if you walked past with plenty of seating inside and modern but cozy. The menu isn't terribly long but we still had trouble narrowing it down to what we wanted to try this first visit. The three of us ended up getting: + Hot & sour cucumber - we were actually a little surprised by how much we loved this? I love Chinese cucumber appetizers and make a version at home all the time, but this one had such an incredible sauce, not too spicy, not too sour, a little bit sweet, a wee bit of savory to really pump up the flavor. Don't sleep on this one, it's so refreshing and good! (It was one person's favorite thing we ordered!) + Big plate chicken - got the smaller size, which is a HEFTY portion for one person, and it is a generous amount of incredibly succulent and juicy chicken and some veg (potatoes, bell peppers) coated in a savory sauce served over some wide noodles that looked hand-cut? Really tasty, if a tiny bit saltier than I was expecting, but super tasty and really satisfying. I'd definitely recommend getting the large if you have someone to share with, and the boneless comes at an extra charge but is very convenient for just shoveling into your mouth + Hand-rolled noodles with the tomato sauce and lamb, medium spice - please note these are hand-ROLLED and not hand-pulled, which means the form factor for these are individual pieces that are rolled, so more like a shorter pasta than a long noodle. I really love hand-rolled noodles because they hold a lot of sauce the middle, and the tomato sauce was my personal favorite of the ones we tried. For folks familiar with Chinese tomato dishes (like tomato with egg), this is a familiar flavor that was still surprising for us because it had more depth than the simple tomato-egg flavor while still retaining that very tomato-y flavor and the freshness of it. I liked that it was a bit sweet and very umami and this is kind of my favorite sauce right now~ + Rice noodles with spicy minced beef sauce and beef, medium spice - admittedly, there was not as much beef in this as we would have liked but the sauce was still (chef's kiss). This one will feel more familiar for folks who haven't had much northwestern Chinese food and will not disappoint Our server was also very kind and attentive, bringing us new water bottles before we even poured the last cup from our old one. The food was decent We ordered the Big Plate Chicken and Lamb dumplings. Portions were surprisingly generous. I was afraid this wouldn't be enough food for two- but we were surprisingly full at the end. The Big Plate Chicken was pretty saucy and salty. We got the bone in and while some pieces were tender, we found a lot of the meat a bit tough. The noodles that came with it were also not very chewy and fell a little soggy. More noodles also would have been nice to balance out the sauciness. The skin of the lamb dumplings were delicious- very chewy and perfectly thin. They also other great options on the menu including "dough with tomatoes" - a dish often eaten by monks in rhe Qinghai province of China. The space is spacious and low-key, a nice place relax and unwind. A great spot in the St. Marks Place area. I've travelled to China 28 times and have been to this region twice in rhe late 90s. The restaurant itself, though located in East Village, is quite spacious and would be good for large groups. It also usually isn't too crowded and is easy to get a spot last minute. The soup is sour, tangy, and very vinegar-y so just be prepared for that but the wontons/dumplings with the soup make for a great combo! Entrees: Sizzling cumin lamb - This is actually listed as an appetizer but it's perfect to share for 2. I seriously crave these some days! That perfect season, delicious sauce/marinade, served with rice. Noodles in traditional sauce with beef or chicken - we usually get it with rice noodles - the noodles and sauce are addictive! I will admit that it's slightly on the pricey side but I do think that it's a very unique halal option and in the city which somewhat justifies it! Jiang's Diner is back and it's back as Jiang's Kitchen! I'm so glad this spot is back. When I visited their previous location I absolutely love the CUISINE and was so happy to see traditional Xinjiang cuisine that was Halal! Food: The food here is seasoned with traditional cumin seasoning so expect it to be a little bit more on the salty side and it's super savory. I love their sizzling rice with cumin flavor and I get it with lamb but I'm sure it will taste just as good with chicken too (have yet to try that!) The steamed beef shumai is excellent and I always start off my meal with that. I was particularly blown away by the lamb ribs barbecue which is a very big portion of lamb ribs seasoned with cumin and it comes with a side of bread and extra seasoning. It was so juicy, tender, flavorful and a really good option for large groups. Service: The food comes out fairly quickly and the servers are really on top of your meals and are super kind in suggesting items and explaining the menu for those who aren't familiar with the cuisine! This place has some of the MOST FLAVORFUL dishes, and I'm specifically talking about the baked buns topped with stewed lamb.
