I was able to ask questions about the menu and I was given several options, all of which sounded delicious. Ultimately, I ordered a half and half shrimp and catfish po boy, a mixed order of beignets which included 2 classic and one oreo, and a peach lemonade. Everything was packed up hot and fresh and by the time I was home I was ready to eat. I ate the po boy so quickly I did not take any pictures, but everything was seasoned perfectly. Today we happened to be driving to Natural Bridge Caverns and saw this place on the side of the road and decided that we'd drop in to try it out after walking a mile underground. That was a great decision. It's a small place, but there were plenty of tables available (and several people in there having a late lunch/early dinner, too) and the service was on-point. Not too present, not too absent, and very approachable. We got an order of chips and salsa to start and for us, we don't mind paying for chips and salsa. But make it worth it. And this definitely was. The server brought us a big basket of chips and a cup of salsa that we barely put a dent in. It was more watery than we prefer but the flavor was amazing. The chicken was perfect: flavorful, moist, and plenty of it. The charro beans were delicious, and the rice was, too. Literally zero real complaints here. We saw, we ate, we conquered. The photos and descriptions on their truck and menu look amazingly mouthwatering. Naturally, we ordered based on that. What we received was NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, like what we saw or read. Unfortunately, I didn't get good pics because it was already dark. DH ordered the Cubano Sliders. 4 sliders with fries, and he opted for the garlic Parmesan fries. We've had plenty of sliders in our lives, and these things were TINY. They looked like delicious sliders in the menu photo, but you know the chicken minis you can get at Chik-Fil-A? That's how big they were. One or 1 1/2 bites each. Super small. The fries very garlic-heavy, but we like garlic so that wasn't too terrible, but the fries themselves were not good. Too crisp and dry inside, they just snapped off when you took a bite. The other dish was Pollo Guisado. I'm not denying what "guisado" style chicken is, and in my photo it is pretty accurate, but the photo they display- which was what I wanted- is completely different. Couldn't be more opposite! Their photo and description showed whole pieces of chicken with grilled peppers and onions, rice on the side. Looked pretty delicious. The young girl who took my order said they could do vegetables but it's extra. Huh? Ok, but the picture with the vegetables looked great so I went with it. She asked which beans I wanted (not in the menu photo) but I chose to skip the beans. What I received was a pile of pulled chicken (found a few bones inside!) with rice, some previously frozen mixed vegetable blend (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots) that tasted way off, and fried plantains whose dominant flavor was the oil in which they were cooked. No whole pieces of chicken, no grilled peppers and onions, nothing in any way resembling what they advertised on their truck. For the two meals, it cost roughly $31. Not worth it in any way whatsoever. FWIW, our friend ordered a burger from the other truck and enjoyed it. We enjoyed Ernie's itself but the next time we go, we'll either get a burger from the other truck or get better food down the street. We were so hopeful for this one but it's a hard pass from here on out.

I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with jalapeños and banana peppers, and it was perfectly balanced just the right amount of buffalo heat, plus the kick from the jalapeños made every bite pop. My wife and kids went for the bacon burgers, and they were juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. We also got two baskets of "the best fries in the city," and let me say I never finish my fries, but I devoured these. Crispy on the outside, soft inside. Absolutely delicious. We also got the homemade ice cream, and it was so creamy and rich. It was the perfect sweet ending. What really set Mellina's apart, though, was the vibe. It's a family-run food truck, and you can feel the heart behind it. The staff was incredibly friendly and personable, even serving us right at our table. It felt like a home-cooked meal made by a pro chef. If you're in the area and looking for amazing food with a personal touch, Mellina's is a must-try.
