Free chips and watery salsa accompanied with nacho cheese flavored dip. Nothing special. Chicken Mole was tasty, and included generous portions of beans and rice. Menudo, a humble soup of hominy and cow stomach was the star of the show. Huge portion went home with me as leftovers. We love to grab breakfast tacos at this local establishment in old Schertz behind the railroad tracks. Quaint little place. We love the painted walls and story behind the cafe name on the menus. We visited on a Saturday morning. Great crowd. We walked in and chose our own table. We were quickly greeted by staff. One brought us waters and took drink order. Another arrived with menus and we were off to the races. We chose a mixture of breakfast tacos. You can't go wrong here. The flour tortillas as warm, soft and fluffy. The refried beans were just perfect. They must do a great business on mornings during the week. They have lots of specials. Sounds like people must come by and pick up for the whole office. We found this place by accident. My wife was down the street having coffee with her dad. My daughter and I let them have some time so we went ahead and looked for some breakfast and we found this restaurant. The decor is very homey and made me feel like I was back in my own barrio (neighborhood). The first thing my daughter said was that it reminded her of the movie CoCo. They were super busy, but we were greeted right away and told to make ourselves at home and sit wherever we wanted. My daughter and I found a great little place to sit, watch some futbol, and enjoy some complimentary queso. The queso was subpar but the chips were nice and warm. I ordered a carne guisada taco which was delicious and had great flavor, and my daughter ordered her favorite bean chorizo and bacon taco a bit greasy but that is par for the course for this taco. I also ordered a chicharrone taco which was full of flavor and cooked just right. The salsa was flavorful and the price was right. Half a soccer team + parents bum-rushed this place on a Sunday morning between two tournament games after the other restaurant we would normally hit was just too busy. The staff here was super-accommodating and pulled together multiple tables so that we could all sit together. They hustled out the drinks and good food. Gourmet? No. Homemade and really good? Yes. After a week of searching fir breakfast tacos, I found a place. I've been driving by this lovely green and gold building for years. Upon entering, you are welcomed by a friendly staff member in a well decorated dining room. I then ordered a sausage and egg taco, a bacon and egg along with a carne guisada taco. When I arrived home, I was crying because the tacos were still hot. I dressed them with their green sauce and started eating. The sausage and egg tacos was delicious because there was ample sausage mixed with the egg and the carne had lumps of beef in a flavorful gravy. What made the tacos was the garlic that was present either in the sauce or the eggs and sausage themselves. Also, the flour tortillas or homemade, so they were great by themselves. Finally, South, Texas, boasts hundreds of Mexican restaurants, but some are better than most. And I have stumbled on a gem in Schertz, Texas. Once you find Schertz Bank on main street, the green and gold building is right down the street. If you're there before 3 o'clock give them a try. However, I think they have a food truck that's open in the evening. read more

This place in Shertz is great!! We were hoping it wasnt crowded because it was 11:30am on a Saturday. To our surprise they had plenty of seating and great customer service. The waitresses are dressed in cute mexican dresses and they have beautiful wall murals in there. We had quick service, they serve delicious cheese, salsa, and chips before your meal. Clean place and our meals were well served and delicious too. I recommend the horchata but not the lemonade(it was too sour for our taste, may be fountain lemonade). I typically order their potato/bacon taco, carne guisada & cheese, bean & cheese and/or Barbacoa on corn tortilla. New Mexican restaurant alert! Yes, it is worth stopping by to get great food, service, price and feel. You will notice as soon as you walk in that this place is authentic. It is colorful, music is going, the staff is friendly and you can smell the food cooking. We ordered the daily special and we actually could have probably shared. The tortillas were definitely homemade and the food had just the right flavors that took me back to my grandma's kitchen. I didn't check put any Sweets but maybe next time. Parking looks like it can be a challenge if it gets busy but that will probably take you to the street. You can't miss this place with the yellow and green building. I noticed that they have another location in San Antonio. I will probably try there breakfast tacos and see how that goes. We will definitely be back. read more

Very nice atmosphere, full of color and representing the culture well with nice murals on the walls. The menu had a variety of items for all tastes. I had the Caldo de Pollo and it was DELICIOSO! They also have fresh homemade corn and flour tortillas. My kiddo ordered and orange juice and they made it freshly squeezed. The server kept our coffee and water full.
