We came here after church a couple of Sunday's ago. Man, the food was good, but it felt like we were family as they welcomed us and sat us. We did come with another family and they had room for us all to sit at a big table, I believe there were 7 of us. The food was amazing!! Super large portions. When it filled up, it was a bit noisy, but at each table, I noticed as the table was served, it got quiet with people digging in and enjoying the food! When our food came, wow, we stopped talking too and dug in! I had the chicken and waffles...the crispy tenders and the waffle crispy outside and yummy inside was perfect textures! The other people in the party had chicken fried steak abd eggs. The chicken fried steak went over the plate edges! It was huge! The tacos were stuffed completely and we're made to order. Great food. Amazing teamwork leads to fabulous service! Lupe and Lily each took excellent care of our 2 groups. I have been there twice this week: our parties had the ginormous chicken fried steak, a bacon cheeseburger, the pork chop special, chicken fried chicken, chicken fajita taco, beef fajita taco, and bean and cheese taco. Their green salsa is terrific! All portions are generous and it is good home cooking. Pro tip - stop by during the week - the place is crazy busy and there will be a wait on weekends. Sorry no photos. Stopped by for a nice breakfast and was saddened by the decline in quality of food and cleanliness. It's been before covid that we ate here last. (not on my everyday commute). They really need to consider removing all the old posters and photos. They are showing their age. Floor was sticky and soiled. Lots of patch work keeping the buildings together. They might consider a complete tear down and re-build. Food was ok, service was good. We had sausage omelet and sausage was kinda funky and veggie omelet which was ok. Biscuits were good, coffee was endless. Servers all had tattoos. Felt more like a biker hang out than a breakfast lunch venue. Not planning on coming back to this one. Grumpy's is a home cooked food kind of place. It is more cafe than Mexican food. The restaurant is located in an old farmhouse. It's very rickety and I'm actually surprised it has a building permit. This is a very casual restaurant. They have an outstanding menu of comfort food such as fried chicken, homemade pies, and biscuits. The servers are nice and attentive. Went for breakfast/lunch with my friend. This place is a typical cafe and very hole in the wall that knows it's good. You walk in to a vestibule where people wait when it's busy and it can get filled. They are very big on their community and have it represented. My friend ordered two tacos which were huge and delicious. He couldn't finish them both, water and a chocolate milk to go with his food. The server was amazing in remembering the order for the milk and brought it with the tacos. I ordered the ultimate patty melt because I've exclusively eaten their breakfast and I wanted something different. The tomatoes, onions, dressing, and burger patties were perfect the Texas toast buttered and grilled perfectly crispy. French fries hot and salted. My in-laws spoke very highly of this place, but given the distance I hadn't made an effort to visit. Since my wife and I were going to be in the area for an appointment, we decided to stop in for lunch. Place was mostly full, but we were able to be seated right away. Our waitress quickly came by to take our drink orders. Since we were there after 11 am, breakfast was not being served. I always enjoy a chicken fried steak, so I opted for that. The plate came with mashed potatoes, grilled zucchini, and toast. The steak was huge and quite filling. I added their green salsa to it, and enjoyed the kick and flavor that it added. The zucchini was good, but I wish there was more than just one piece. The place has very interesting decor throughout, and is not terribly big so I can see why they have long waits on the weekends. A lot of rude people and suffocating atmosphere, all I did was sit with my wife and everyone was giving us the most dirty looks and just all around staring at us, everyone was being very rude, not sure why, it was literally everyone. The staff was amazingly polite but we felt so ugly sitting there, we felt as if we weren't welcome there. Totally traumatizing experience, will never ever even think about trying this place again. Too small, and too judgmental, it's like I stepped into the customers restaurant instead of grumpys Mexican cafe. My friend found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. When you pull up it looks like a small hole in the wall. Parking is very limited and it seems to get busy quick. We were instantly greeted as we walked in and sat down. I would say this place had the friendliest staff I have ever had. We ordered the potato twisters, a potato and cheese taco, bean and cheese taco, plus a potato and egg taco. I had a mimosa and my friend ordered a sweet tea. I will give you fair warning their potions are quite large. I was full after the one taco. Everything looked and tasted nice. The waitress came by our table every so often to make sure we were okay. I even took a lemon meringue pie to go. Definitely would recommend this place. Good is great. People were amazing! I think you definitely get what you pay for. Delicious and worth the 40 minute drive and 45 minute wait for a table! The waiting area is a little cramped, but they are super busy so it's understandable that they're a bit limited on space. Their decor is a good mix between customer picture, kids' art work, and their own decor choices. I got the biscuits and gravy with the home fries which was delightful. My toddler ate a significant amount which is surprising, because he typically doesn't like biscuits. My husband got the pecan pancakes and said it was delicious. Took advantage of being off on a weekday to grab breakfast at Grumpy's without waiting in line for a table. Good decision! Chicken fried steak and eggs platter was massive and delicious. Hot crispy batter on the steak, not too heavy. Comes with gravy (obviously) 2 eggs, hash browns, biscuit or toast. We shared. DH had the Henry taco- his favorite. Delicious and huge. We normally order an extra tortilla so we can separate it to make it manageable, but today we forgot! They have a large assortment of fresh fruit and meringue pies available for purchase, as well as a variety of other baked goods. I don't mind the kitschy decor, it's what gives the place personality, but when the cowboy boot is dangling a big ol' dust ball over the side of the table, maybe it's time to give it a wipedown. read more

So a friend of mine sent me an article from the local paper listing number 1 restaurants in different food categories. This place made the #1 spot for country cooking. I picked up my friend, and we went to confirm the rating:-) Driving up, we were able to land a great spot. We walked up the stairs and entered a large waiting area filled with lots of empty seats. I guess we beat the crowd. Opening the door to the dining area we were immediately greeted by a young lady behind the register. She directed us to our table, and showed up right behind us with the menus. She gave us few minutes to look over the menu and then brought our drinks. My friend asked her what she would recommend, and she gladly gave us her opinion of chicken fried steak. We both said "sold" at the same time. Our food arrived after a reasonable time, and we were both shocked at the size of the orders. Mine at least fit on one plate, but my friends took 2 full plates. Neither of us had eaten this type food in a long time, but after the first bite, we were so glad we did today. The food was very good. My friend said the green beans were the best he ever had and gave me some to try. They were fantastic and reminded me of my grandmother's cooking of things straight out of her garden. Will I return? I wanted to love this place so much! Tbh it was okay but nothing to write home about. The plates while large in portion were slightly lacking in flavor. I did very much enjoy the top notch service, as our server was both attentive and friendly. When I look back at my visit what stands out most in my memory instead of the food is the cold windy draft coming from partitioners entering and exiting as we were sitting near the door. What a great home cooking establishment! We posted pics of the chicken fried steak and the patty melt. We also got the shrimp and fish platter (not pictured but too delicious not to mention). The food was just delicious and temperature appropriate when served to us. The portions were overly generous. The place was decorated in many nostalgically. We brought the muffins home and heated them with butter for breakfast the next morning. We would have liked to try one of their many wonderful looking pies but had so much good left over do that will happen next time. We drive 50 minutes to get to Grumpy's and it was worth every minute to get there. The staff was welcoming and for all these reasons I posted, we will no doubt be back to try breakfast next time. Very comfortable feeling. The staff were all smiling and greeting you. Lots of large groups. This place is known for their chicken fried steak, they are huge! And their breakfast.
