This is an old restaurant and I don't mind that if the food is good. There are so many great Mexican restaurants in San Antonio, I won't be coming back to this place. I got the breakfast chicharron and egg taco. The chicharron was not crunchy and almost gummy texture. The egg was cooked well. The hot sauce was just okay. Staff: the employees look tired, but service was good Cleanliness: average Bathroom: below average and in need of a renovation

An interesting time-capsule, local restaurant. Stopped in on a recent cold Saturday morning for a breakfast taco. Place was crowded but not packed. Ordered a machacado and egg taco. The flour tortilla was horrible! The tortilla was partially scorched and hard. Tasted like it came from a major grocery store and was warmed by an amateur. And the machacado and egg was just mediocre. Ambiance: rough 1970s San Antonio family restaurant Service: decent service Overall cleanliness: average Bathroom cleanliness: below average Misc.: Pay after eating at register

Ate here this morning & they served my husbands taco plate with a dead cockroach under his tacos . We asked to speak to the manager we were told she was very busy got up too leave and we saw the manager chitchatting with the other waitresses. She wasn't busy at all but running her mouth. We told her we were not paying for the tacos because of the cockroach on his plate but she made us pay for the food anyway. She said she could only give a 10% discount off the tacos. Steer far away from this restaurant as possible unless you like added meat on your plate !!!!

We use to come here every weekend prior to COVID. Loved the food. Tried it out again. But even the kids said it didn't taste the same. Had the menudo (that I always loved ) but now I got to watch out for the bones. Both small and large. Not the best in town anymore As my dad would say maybe " the may have changed cooks"

Service and food are great. Always fresh, welcome upon arrival. You seat yourself. They have daily specials posted. Located on the corner lot with parking. If you are in the area give it a try.

Had a great experience here on a Friday! I ordered mini tacos al pastor and my kids ordered the adult fajita quesadilla plate. They served chips and salsa w/ drinks while you wait for your food. We had a great bilingual waitress, I didnt get her name but she was so friendly and gave us great customer service. My kids loved the quesadillas, they looked soo good and very cheesy!! But you have to love Tex-Mex because the beans did taste like canned beans but not horrible. Rice was good and the guac could have been a little fresher but again, they loved it since they are more into the rice and quesadillas. I added queso fresco to the mini tacos and they were amazing!! My plate came w/ charro beans, they could have been better though. If you like sweet limonada this is the place, it was delicious!! They served the limonada in a jarrito(mexican-clay-pottery mini barrel shaped cups), impressive! Again overall our experience was great, the waitress was very nice unlike when waitresses are in a bad mood in other places. For three adult plates, two limonadas, and a sprite we paid under $50 without counting the tip, great price for 3!! Service was fast but probably because there wasnt many ppl there at 5pm. Ambiance was great too, not hot, average clean, and good mexican music:)

The food OMG!!! This is our 2nd time coming here and they haven't disappointed. From the customer service to the food. Our waitress name was Beatriz and she recommended the shrimp nachos as her favorite and these tacos with asada and pork mix.. can you say !! Oh and she also recommended this drink to get a fresh lemonade with half pineapple and man that drink is goooooddd...10 out of 10 experience today!!

The building is easy to find, situated next to Randolph Dental and across the street from Take 5 Oil Change. Parking is straightforward. The restaurant shares an outdoor lot with several neighboring businesses, and there was plenty of parking directly in front, including clearly marked handicapped spaces, plus an additional row across from the restaurant. Inside, the space is open, comfortable, and very clean. The interior seating is well maintained, and staff were consistently attentive to keeping the dining area tidy throughout the visit. The setup feels relaxed and inviting, and it is also nice to see that outdoor seating is available if you prefer fresh air. The food was excellent. I ordered the veggie omelette with added avocado and turkey, which was savory and well balanced. The hash browns were well seasoned with a good pepper profile, and the white chocolate latte stood out in particular. It did not have the artificial syrup aftertaste that is common at many places, which made it especially enjoyable. Service is what truly made the visit stand out. Jacqueline was friendly, attentive, and helpful from start to finish. She checked in at the right moments, answered questions without rushing, and kept everything running smoothly. As a thoughtful bonus, I was also given an extra pastry, which was a pleasant surprise and a great example of genuine hospitality. If you are looking for a casual breakfast or coffee spot with a clean environment, quality food, and staff who clearly care about the customer experience, Biscuit House is well worth a visit. Keep up the great work, Jacqueline and Biscuit House Schertz.

The good: The beer selection was solid, and the cucumber margarita was genuinely delicious. The not-so-good: * Wedge Salad: The salad itself was fine, but the highlight--bacon--was extremely sparse. Six tiny squares were placed on the edge of the plate, which felt oddly rationed and not nearly enough to enjoy throughout the salad. * Mussels: This was the most concerning dish. We expected mussels in a white wine and garlic sauce, but instead received them in a buttery yellow-orange sauce with a very unpleasant odor. The smell was not "fishy" but something far more off-putting--honestly resembling manure. I've worked in the restaurant industry for years and don't send food back lightly, but this was not normal. The server said the smell was typical, suggesting vinegar may have made it "pungent." Ultimately, the manager told us we still needed to pay for the dish, which we did without argument, though the experience was disappointing. * Shrimp Appetizer: It was fine, but nothing memorable or worth raving about. * Burger: The patty was overcooked, the bun was dry, and the fries ended up being the best part--crispy and greasy. Overall, we were hoping for a much better experience. While the drinks were enjoyable, the food quality and response to legitimate concerns left a lot to be desired.

But once we sat down, it made sense. Everything is made to order, and you can taste the difference. There was only one server handling the entire floor, and when a rush hit all at once, it definitely got busy fast. But here's the thing... she handled it with grace. Even when you could tell she was juggling a lot, she stayed attentive, kind, and kept checking in on us. That kind of effort deserves recognition. Now let's talk about the real star of the show... The Texas French Toast. Oh. My. Goodness. Thick, golden, perfectly cooked slices topped with homemade whipped cream and fresh berries that tasted like they were picked that morning. It wasn't just good, it was indulgent in the best way. Sweet without being overwhelming. Rich but balanced. I couldn't even finish it (which says a lot), and happily boxed the rest up. The only regret? I ate all the berries first. Rookie mistake. My husband ordered one of the hash plates and said it was solid comfort food... hearty, flavorful, and filling. He couldn't finish his either, so I'm definitely sneaking a few bites later. Overall, we left impressed. The food feels intentional. The flavors feel thoughtful. It's the kind of local spot you want to root for. And the fact that they serve pork lumpia for lunch? Say less. We'll be back for that. If you're looking for a cozy, made-from-scratch brunch spot in Universal City, this one is worth the wait. Good food takes time, and this place proves it. ***This review is based on my taste buds. Both dishes were overwhelmingly salty, and the salt overpowered the flavors of each entrée. While the eggs themselves were cooked well, I couldn't help but wonder, where was the Hollandaise sauce? The key part of the dish was missing. The pulled pork biscuit was tasty, but again - it was overly salty.

AH. WANTED TO LOVE IT, DIDN'T END UP EVEN LIKING IT. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE THOUGH!…read more Service: 4/5 It looked like a one man show- I can appreciate that. The man who I assume could be the owner, was a server, cashier, and the cleaning crew. Haha. He looked a bit serious but he was very kind. Food: 2/5 I hate to admit it, but just like some of the lower reviews said- the food was so bland. I mean, not a taste of seasoning. I ordered a chicken fried biscuit with gravy, and it came with potatoes. My sister ordered a bacon croissant. I'll start off with mine. They did give me a rather large hunk of chicken; the batter slid right off and the chicken itself was tasteless, I do mean absolutely tasteless :( The biscuit was so dry, and crumbly. Possibly day old? Not sure. I slapped some of their homemade jam (Now that jam was wonderful! ) however they don't give too much of anything (butter, gravy, jam) so I do feel the sandwich would be better if it was maybe made smaller? I'm not sure. It was just a huge biscuit with nothing to slather it with. The gravy portion is really not fair, lol. Since the biscuit was super dry and again SUPER bland, I do feel they should make the gravy a bigger portion. My sister said her bacon croissant "was nothing special. I could've made it at home." I also want to throw out there that their drinks also need some help. I ordered a strawberry lemonade, my sister did a "freshly brewed tea" ah. The tea was bitter as heck and the lemonade tasted like it was pure strawberry syrup. :( Price: 2/5 I spent $30.00 on two plates, that Indeed we could've just made at home for 1/3 of the price. I know food is at an all time high right now, but this meal was not worth my hard earned money. We couldn't find one thing we actually enjoyed about it. Overall: 1/5. I hate to be honest because I really want to see small shops thrive; whenever I go to a restaurant I ask myself "Would you come back?" And the answer for Happy Cafe is absolutely not. The food, the atmosphere, the drinks, everything was just not for us. The restaurant itself needs some deep cleaning, an upgraded menu, and maybe some new tables (ours were peeling and super sticky) however, if I'm being honest I can get past that- but I simply will not return due to the food. As some of the others said, I don't know how this place is so highly rated (love that for them) but it just wasn't for me and my family, maybe it will be for yours.
