Food and Service with a simple ambiance. This was my second visit with friends this time on a Wednesday. First there at opening time. Instantly greeted, and drinks came fast. Ordered the Soul Rolls and just WOW. A egg roll type wrap filled with seasoned ground beef, greens and Mac N Cheese. With Brown Gravy. MMM. Could be a meal by itself. Friend ordered Fried Green tomatoes. No complaints from him. Perused the menu with the Wednesday special being Meatloaf, 2 sides and a drink. ($11.99). I ordered meatloaf was delightful dense meat... not many fillers smothered in brown gravy. A side of Mac N Cheese and Okra.. SO MUCH TO EAT. Friends got the Swai fish with Yams and Green beans. Second friend had Catfish with cabbage and okra. They both loved their individual plates, had enough to create a to go plate for later. And don't get me started on the Banana Puddig for all 3 of us. Let me be clear up front: the food was amazing. We had the fried chicken wings, catfish, sweet potatoes, cabbage, fried okra, black-eyed peas, and cornbread--and not one thing disappointed. The flavors were on point, well-seasoned, and cooked with care. I especially enjoyed the fried chicken, the cabbage, and those black-eyed peas--pure comfort food done right. I do want to share one note for transparency. The catfish entrée came with one piece of fish. It was a nice size (unfortunately I didn't grab a picture), but I'm used to receiving two fillets with a catfish entrée, so that part was a little disappointing for the price. We also ordered a catfish sandwich to go, and while this didn't take away from the overall experience, an additional piece of fish would better match expectations. Now let me give credit where it is absolutely due. The young woman working the front--Ariel (I believe it's spelled A-R-I-E-L, and I apologize if I missed that)--was phenomenal. She was cashier, to-go coordinator, and full-on mama energy, handling everything with grace, patience, and a great attitude. Even as it started getting busy (you know how folks roll in after church), she still made space for friendly chit-chat while keeping everything moving. Another thing I truly appreciated: the place was clean. And for me, that matters. Spotless, inviting, and the only thing in the air was the smell of that delicious food--no distractions, no off-putting odors, just good cooking doing what it's supposed to do. The food is served in to-go containers and everything is cooked to order, so expect a little bit of a wait--but honestly, who would mind waiting for food prepared this fresh? Overall, this was a great experience with great food and excellent service. I'll definitely be back--and hopefully next time there's just a little more catfish on the plate. read more

Got food takeaway. The staff is extremely pleasant and efficient. We got chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, and the Asian ribs. All sides that came with the meals were good. The greens were definitely homemade with love as they were super delicious. It's worth visiting for the greens alone. The restaurant is casual with plenty of seating. It's definitely about the food and they have Koolaid! I didn't try it but got the unsweet ice tea and it was perfect on a hot August afternoon in San Antonio. Southern food at its finest‼ I had the smothered pork chops, dirty rice, mashed potatoes and cornbread! Everything top shelf and FRESH. Chops perfectly done with brown gravy. I've eaten this place for a few years every time I've been there I've never been disappointed. The hospitality is evident, but the food is very good as well fried chicken and pork chops, macaroni and cheese and the dirty rice are all excellent. While waiting my friend and I chatted with ladies at another table and laughed at the movie playing on the tv. As for my meal, I had the soul food rolls which contained greens, Mac n cheese and meatloaf. Plan to share this with friends as it is a hearty appetizer and my favorite item that I tried. Good fried chicken and cornbread. For $11.99 for two piece chicken and two sides that comes with cornbread, I think it's a great deal. First one to arrive when it opened on a weekend. There is a wait time but it's to be expected since they make everything fresh. Gravy was just finished and tasted strange. It's been a long time since I have been to a restaurant that has blown me away with the taste of their food, but Mr. A Ok absolutely did that. I ordered the Meatloaf with Mac and Cheese with yams and the wife got fried chicken with okra and fries...Oh, and we got the egg rolls of course. The meatloaf sandwich was huge and went perfect with the creamy mac and cheese. The yams were probably the best I have ever had and my sandwich came with excellent cornbread that I did not know was included. Where do I start? Wow! So it all started on an Instagram post that popped up and I knew I needed to try this place. I live about 3.5/4 hours away but figured I'd make a weekend trip of it and try a few other places while in San Antonio. This is in a small shopping center, nothing fancy but hey, so many times, the places are the best. Greeted immediately, friendly and helpful and were told to sit anywhere. It was Sunday lunch time but it wasn't busy yet. Based on the Instagram I'd seen, I already knew what I wanted....Grilled Cheese meatloaf with Mac n cheese! My friend was set on oxtails. We were strongly recommended an appetizer of Soul Rolls so we agreed. Woooweeee! Everything was amazing...word are hard to give. Cooked with love for sure. So many robust flavors. You could tell hours of cooking went into building these flavor profiles. Oxtails were fall off the bone. Meatloaf had the most amazing flavor and the Mac n cheese was cheesy, soft, and buttery. Fries were good but would have set them over the top if they were homemade fries but hey, not complaining. The entire ride home all my friend and I did was rave over this place. It's clean and the seating is spaced out. The bathrooms are clean and the service is good. I tried the soul rolls. A southern spin on egg rolls. They are very good. I was so excited when I found this place I ordered $40 worth just for myself. I would've ordered more but fried green tomatoes were not available. While the soul rolls had me excited, the flavor was very mild and uneventful. I ordered the meatloaf with collard greens and macaroni and cheese and the side of okra. Gave a four because the bread did not hold up, way to much stuff on sandwich for this type of bread.
