They have so many options to suit your dietary preferences such as dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian. They also promote organic and sustainable sourced food. I ordered the Shrimp Po Boy. It was served with brown rice and side salad with balsamic vinaigrette. It was pretty good, and you can taste the freshness of the food. I also ordered The One and Only Sweet Potato cupcake. They were just finishing up a batch when I asked if they were dairy free, the employee told me that they were NOT dairy free due to the cream cheese frosting, but she had some cupcakes that were not frosted and could sell me one! I'm so happy about this because I was able to enjoyed a little treats and this cupcake was DELICIOUS 100/10, definitely recommend. I got my other coworker the cupcake with cream cheese My coworker ordered the Tender Chicken Breast with the Chili Love flavoring and ordered it was a side of Mac and Cheese. She really enjoyed the chicken but not a big fan of the Mac and cheese. I was IN LOVE with the seating options, it was all outdoor, provided entirely with shade, a couple of fans to keep the area nice and cool, and lots and lots of plants. They played some tropical latin salsa/jazz music which created such a peaceful atmosphere. I loved how they served the meals in biodegradable containers/plates. They do encourage you to recycle anything recyclable. They also ask that you clean and wipe down the table (which I was glad to do.) I had a great experience as they were able to accommodate my dietary preferences of being dairy free--I will definitely return for the vibe and to try more items on the menu.

If you're anywhere near the east side of San Antonio, do yourself a favor and stop by J's Eatery…read more From the moment we walked in, it felt less like a restaurant and more like we were being welcomed into someone's home. The vibe was warm, relaxed, and genuinely friendly. We started with the orange pepper chicken wings -- flavorful, crispy, and absolutely delicious. The sauce was not thick or overpowering, and the wings were cooked just right with that satisfying crunch. My wife and I both ordered the shrimp & grits -- I went spicy, she kept hers mild. Both were cooked to perfection. The shrimp were tender and well-seasoned, the grits creamy and rich, and the spice level on mine had just the right kick without overpowering the dish. Truly top notch. We also added cornbread and greens, and honestly, I could have eaten nothing but those greens and been completely happy. They were that good -- perfectly seasoned, comforting, and full of flavor. The whole experience felt like we were sitting at a friend's house while their dad and uncle -- the best cooks in the neighborhood -- were in the kitchen preparing a special meal just for us. That's the kind of place this is. We'll absolutely be back.

The cabbage was somewhat spicy, the cornbread muffin was a half muffin, the muffin did not fill up the cupcake muffin wrapper. But the fried catfish, fried chicken wings and yams were on point, I would order the catfish and chicken wing plate to go anyday! The peach cobbler was very sweet. My daughter ordered meatloaf, a pork chop plate, Mac & cheese, collard greens, cornbread muffin, a tropical punch beverage and banana pudding which I felt the pudding was watered down vs. being thick. She asked for medium cooked pork chops and one pork chop was medium and one pork chop was over cooked. She notified the cashier and he stated they both were cooked at temp the same time. The collard greens were spicy and the Mac & cheese were watered down. I had to go to the restroom. This was the worst restroom in any restaurant I have ever used. First, there was no light on, I had to ask for light and one of the employees turned on the light. Secondly, there was an awful hole in the top right corner ceiling, I was afraid to use the restroom for fear of some bug crawling in through the ceiling hole. Third, there was also a hole in the wall visible behind the toilet tank top, again I was afraid to set down on the toilet and the whole bathroom decor was unappealing. When other patrons described this establishment as as "HOLE IN THE WALL" they were absolutely correct. Don't forget about the hole in the ceiling! Entering into the building, the walls and ceiling were black, making the atmosphere sad. There was also a small bar to the left of the dining area. But the kicker for me was, our two meals, two beverages, and two desserts cost $61!!! As many Soul Food Restaurant I have eaten in with my daughter for two people, I have never been charged so much for two soulfood meals with two beverages and two desserts. RECOMMEDATION: Of course my palate is different from other customers, but I would never return to the establishment due to being over charged for two meals, two beverages, two desserts and the lady's restroom was the pits.

There was even a photographer floating around capturing moments throughout the restaurant. We grabbed seats at the bar and started with the Lavender Lemonade topped with Belvedere. Smooth, refreshing, and the lavender flavor was a nice touch. Now, the food! The collard dip was AMAZING - and yes, you read that right...collards! Definitely one of the highlights of the meal. The bowl of gumbo was also flavorful, although it was definitely on the salty side, which happens to be right up my alley. The Praline French Toast was really good! The egg-to-bread ratio was spot on, giving it that perfect custardy texture without being overly heavy. And the side of bacon was cooked just the way I like it. Service was a little slow during our visit, but having good company definitely made it easier to overlook. The Sunday we went was also pretty quiet. I was hoping for more of that brunch-party vibe but maybe we just caught them on a slower day. Overall, a nice brunch spot with a great atmosphere, good food, music, and plenty of potential for a lively Sunday experience. I'd definitely come back to see it on a busier brunch day!
