Hands down best fried chicken I've ever had! I got the lemon pepper and spicy dark meat and both were sensational. Fried okra was hot and delicious, collard greens and Mac & cheese were excellent. I definitely recommend trying the corn fritters! And even the fries were fresh! So yummy! I'd give ten stars if I could. And the sweet tea was on point. Chatmans set the bar high for me. I'm very picky with my fried chicken and this place knocked it out the park!

Man oh man!!! That was some good chicken!!!!!!!! I've been living in Texas for about 7 years now, originally from NC, I haven't had chicken that good since I stepped off the place in 2018. We ordered the original 8 piece family meal mixed and it was sooo good. Seasoned well, fried hard, juicy meat. Everything you expect from a good piece of fried chicken, they had accomplished it all. The service was southern and hospitable and the ambience was great. We got our food fast and everyone was very helpful. When I'm in San Antonio, this will be my permanent chicken spot!!!!

Oh how I love those discoveries! I bookmarked this place a while back, it is too far of a drive but then on a Sunday evening I decided to just go drive there! I had to do the drive thru since they were getting ready to close. The man at the window was truly nice. I wanted the gizzards and all the other things they have. He politely told me they only have fried chicken left... bummer! I brought the food home which still tasted good! I had to peek and look at it before driving. It looked so crispy and fried to perfection! There will definitely be a next time! Go early and sit inside to eat the food and try the other things they have on the menu

I need to try the chicken next but today I got to try the riblet plate with 2 sides, potatoes and corn nuggets. Yum!!

Fantastic customer service. Extremely friendly staff. This was my first time going and I will definitely return. I couldn't make up my mind on my two sides for my plate so I ordered two additional sides. All delicious but I have to shout out the green beans and greens as they had great flavor. If you're a vegetarian there are plenty of options you can have here on their delicious sides.

We were told about this place and said it was the best friend chicken in town. We lived previously where we couldn't find much friend chicken so was excited to try it. First I want to say Thai place visually could make people think differently. It's not the cleanest and it is apparent it's an old establishment. With that being said... it's a little gem if you can get past that. Food was very tasty and the service was great! Very friendly folks! I haven't tried other fried chicken places yet other than chains sooo I can't say it's the best but it is definitely delicious.

Stopped for lunch with a coworker First things first...the man who served and took my order was phenomenal. Very polite, great service & even before I ordered, he offered a sample of a Pork fried Riblet....very tasty & will order next time. (I found out later that the man was Mr. Chapman himself) exactly what you'd hope to say when dealing with an owner. However, because of the name, I had to order the Chicken meal; -Chicken was hot, fresh & crispy-but no flavor...similar to Churches Chicken -Yams needed nutmeg -Collards were perfect! -Kool-Aid was good but could've used more sugar Overall, a good place to get a meal, especially if you're in the area. And, again, kudos to Mr. Chapman for taking an intentional effort in running a successful business!

What an experience San Antonio! I got to try the legendary Chatman's Chicken on the Eastside of San Antonio and I'm just floored by the delicious chicken I tasted! The owner Mr. Chatman is just an incredible human being and after talking with him for 5 minutes, I realized why this restaurant is so beloved. Every Tuesday, they have a $1.99 special for a two piece dark chicken. The Fried Riblets are so damn good and I also loved the Chicken Fried Steak! On top of all of that, they also have delicious sides with homemade Potato salad, Mac & cheese, and Mashed potatoes. We assumed that meant it's like a bar and grill, not just a bar that happens to have a unassociated food window/kitchen at the back. We planned our first ever visit here after family day at the art museum, but the bar staff asked my husband and son to leave while I was trying to find parking (the lot next to the bar is privately owned and charges $19 for 4 hours). That isn't mentioned on their Google page or Facebook page, and on their Instagram, it isn't clear that it is 21+ all the time as it is written right after "late night." I went in on my own to order wings to go. The menu is not written anywhere, and isn't on the website (which would also be a convenient place to mention that anyone under 21 is not allowed on property), so the moved slowly as no one could figure out what they wanted until they reached the only ordering kiosk at the window. Maybe their flavors change frequently? A chalkboard or something would be nice. The wings were very reasonably priced and didn't take overly long. We took them up the road to someplace with picnic tables to eat--only to discover that one of the extra sauces was missing and another was wrong. It would also be helpful if they labeled the different flavors. Maybe it was an off night for the wings, but we didn't get the hype. I think this restaurant is suffering from being too successful too quickly and will hopefully find a way to scale up to accommodate its popularity. Maybe somewhere with menus and access for families. I would try it again at that point, but I can't see going through the inconvenience for their food until then.

When I came up to the place it wasn't a sit down place to eat, but that you have to order which was confusing as there were a lot of other restaurants within the small space. That's how I ended up trying Anthony Fish & Chicken, and honestly it turned out better than expected. The restaurant is located on the east side of San Antonio, which happens to be the area I grew up in. Some people who aren't familiar with the area might consider it a little rough, but in my experience those neighborhoods often have some of the best food in the city. I called in my order and was quoted about 25 minutes. It took a little longer than that, but it wasn't a problem. When I pulled up there were a grip of cars waiting for food, so clearly the place stays busy. One thing to know if it's your first time: if you don't call ahead, you order at the window. I accidentally tried going inside at first and was told they were serving through the window only, which was fair enough. I ordered the 15-piece lemon pepper chicken, which came with fries and two slices of bread. We also grabbed steak nachos at the last minute, and those didn't even make it home because they got demolished in the car. They were loaded with toppings and I'm pretty sure they used Doritos for the chips, which added extra flavor. The chicken itself was excellent. Crispy, fresh, and clearly made to order. The legs and thighs were seasoned well and the portion size was generous. A 15-piece could easily feed a small family of three or four. Between the nachos and a couple sides we made at home, it actually ended up feeding five people comfortably. The crinkle cut fries were also solid and had a nice seasoning on them, and the hot sauce they give with the chicken paired really well. When I arrived there were a grip of cars waiting, and after trying the food I understand why. Compared to my number one fried chicken spot, Chatman's Chicken, this place honestly holds its own. The chicken here is crispy, fresh, and flavorful all the way through. Another thing I appreciated was the value. I've seen places around San Antonio charging close to $20 for a simple three-piece meal, and the food doesn't even come close to this quality. Here the portions and price felt much more reasonable. Anthony's definitely has something going on. They have a solid menu with plenty of combos and options for a good price. Next time I'll probably try the wings because they looked great coming out of the kitchen. Overall this spot definitely satisfied my fried chicken craving. I'll be back again.
