Nice location close and cheap food near the riverwalk. The whataburger was tasty, with chopped lettuce, onions, and the classic whataburger sauce. Standard burger where cheese is extra. We also got the chicken sandwich which was surprisingly better than the whataburger. It was tender and thick cut of meat, the tomato and lettuce seemed a bit fresher as well. They do offer their own whataburger ketchup and spicy ketchup. My favorite of the two was the spicy ketchup and they let you take however much of the sauce when you dine in. I needed a chicken biscuit but it was Sunday so no Chik Fil A. I passed a Whataburger and saw that there were a few minutes left for breakfast and it was on the menu. After waiting 5-7 minutes to place my order, I had to wait another 10 minutes for my order to appear. The biscuit was warm and soft, the chicken was a decent filet in crispy batter. Fun stop in downtown San Antonio at a must eat place! The birthplace of Whataburger, we went to see what the hype was all about. Turns out, fast food was terrific and cooked drag to order. This location needs serious overhaul. On Thanksgiving night we went here because everything was closed. They were seriously understaffed, grumpy and annoyed. I got some chicken tenders and a jalapeño cheese burger. The burger had a hair, we went back and told them so and they questioned it. They brought another one out with an attitude to boot, so opted not to eat it incase they had tampered with it. The fries were nothing to write home about, and the chicken tenders were bland and underwhelming. The Ambiance was dire since the patrons in this location were questionable and it made us feel a little unsafe. They were all out of tea, which made people upset. I don't understand why some reviewers gave this location one star--maybe they came at a different time with a different crew. My experience was solid. The burger and fries were just fine, exactly what I'd expect from Whataburger. For a fast-food spot, the front staff and cashiers were very friendly and welcoming, which made the visit pleasant. I was pretty impressed with whataburger. I am from California and came here for a business trip. I took the red eye, so when I got to my hotel it was late. There's been debate that whataburger is better than in n out. Come at me with pitch forks and fire but I think this burger chain is more comparable to mcdonalds. Looked online and the census was to try a patty melt. The cashier was a bit impatient with it being our first time. However, this is one of the only food spots open late night if your plane arrives late. They also packaged everything in one paper bag piled high rather than spread out for convenience of carrying Onion rings- crunchy rather than crisp. The onion inside is sweet. Fries- more like mcdonalde and dryer rather than crispy. Not too bad on saltiness. Patty melt bacon avocado- overly salty. I was not a fan of this but I also prefer fresher flavors. Chicken little (nuggets) it's moist and real chicken but seasoned like nuggets. Pieces are on the smaller side. Apple pie- pretty good, solid crust. Less cinnamony than mcdonalds. Spicy ketchup- indeed ketchup with a kick. Its self serve at the counter so u can get it yourself. Jalapeño ranch- also legitimately has a kick Sweet tea- verrryy sweet. Probably southern normal level though. Overall, I found the food too salty for my taste and can't compare to in n out at all in terms of freshness. I was happy to be in Texas when I realized that I was going to be within walking distance of a Whataburger. Since my first taste while I was in Vegas, I was impressed with their food and wanted more. This is a convenient place to grab a quick lunch if you are staying in or around the Riverwalk area. Tired of the sit down restaurants or gimmick chains you find along the walk you can come here real quick. My colleague and I did just that. Lunchtime was upon us and we were on a tight schedule and wanted to grab something to bring back. We walked over here and expected a somewhat small wait, especially with it being lunchtime. I'd like to touch on the fact that this is basically the first floor of the parking garage and made it kind of look like Whataburger was wearing a hat. Inside it almost gave off a fifties diner vibe. Walked up to the counter and placed my order. What knocks this place down a bit is the lack of swiftness. The employees seemed like they could have cared less if they were there let alone serving you food. It took a good ten minutes for the food to come out. Yes there were people ahead of me, but not the whole hotel where I am staying. Food was what I expected it to be. Just as good as I remember from my last visit. read more

It was ok. They took awhile to bring our order out, which made me think that they were making it fresh. The drink sizes are huge, so when in doubt, order a size down. The meat seems to be a good quality as I got the double patty and it didn't give me heartburn. Love that the Coke fountain is well maintained. I had trouble getting the restroom door to open with the code on the receipt, and a helpful staff member jumped to help me instead of waiting to be asked first. I think they hire elderly staff and others who would otherwise have a tough time getting work, so that's great. Doesn't compare to Culver's though. I'm glad to have tried it once as this chain is all over San Antonio, even more than McDonald's or In n out. read more

So we are walking back and Whataburger is always open so we had to stop in. It's like 2:00 in the morning so at the end of the day, we needed something that was going to be open and readily available. You come in and wait in line, but if that's the only thing that serving food like this, you expect to have a little line there so it's not the end of the world. I ended up getting the patty melt with bacon, and a breakfast sandwich. Again, it's almost 2:00 in the morning right now so I have to get something related to breakfast. The manager, Shirley, really came through for us. She let us try some different sauces and different foods, we are definitely going to come back. She gets an extra star just for being her. In every discussion of which is the best burger, whataburger always comes up so I was curious to finally try it and decided for myself. In my opinion, the quality of this burger reminds me of the smaller unknown burger spots you see while driving around town. If that's not a good description, let me just say it was an alright burger. This was my first time having Whataburger. I decided to go here even though I was not hungry. I couldn't leave Texas without having tried this food and see what all the fuss was about. Since I wasn't hungry, I decided to get a kid's meal that was a bacon cheeseburger, fries, a cookie, and drink. Everything was good. No complaints from me. Well my only complaint was that the food took longer than I thought it should have. People before and after me with full adult meals were being given their food before me. Doesn't matter, I wasn't in any rush. I am not sure what the fuss is all about. The fries I enjoyed since I prefer shoestring fries anyway. I would come back if I had the desire for fast food but its nothing to go out of my way for. The manager in my picture was so nice and sweet. This is my go to place when I'm in the mood for a burger. Yes, they have changed some of how they do things. I just have to be mindful when I place my order I hear other people complaining and blame it on the staff they think the people at the counter can read your mind. I tried Whataburger on Rittman Rd. for lunch - Say it ain't so, it was one of the worst fast food experiences of my life... First and foremost, I feel bad for even having to expense it as I'm here on business. To o I'll begin, the ordering process was weird. I pull up to the drive through and the guy says "Whata you pick somethin and speak" so that was off-putting. After I ordered, they said "pull to lane B" so I go to lane B and I'm greeted by another emotionless human who doesn't greet me, but forces his boney hand in my car window... My initial reaction was to roll my window up and watch him squirm (stranger danger), but I didn't want to end up in Texas prison... so instead I handed him my credit. I paid, and then waited an eternity for my food.  Let's start with the fries. Ooooohhhhhh the fries. They were not edible. At All. They were super-duper dry, and no flavor - no salt, pepper, nada.... For the main course, I choose an avocado chicken sandwich... while it was the best tasting item of the three I ordered, it didn't "knock my boots off." In fact, it was soggy as heck. I dunno if they were using avocado oil instead of avocado, but it was a mess-bucket. And they provided no napkins! What is this, the prehistoric era?! Finally, I got a dr. pepper shake, because the subcontractors here raved about it. Now, you would think to yourself, or maybe to everyone, that there's no way you can screw something with Dr. Pepper, and while I don't often find myself consuming soda, Dr. Pepper is usually my choice, if I'm feeling pop-py...  But Woooooaaahhh man, things took a turn for the dirt road, headed toward a cliff, with no breaks, when I tried that shake. They shurrree did ruin Dr. Pepper for me. When I tell you this drink tasted like the cherry medicine from my childhood (and not that good one), infused with two spray's of Windex, a dash of rat poison, and a few tablespoons of phony red cherry snow cone topping.
