When you need a chicken biscuit but it's Sunday.
    Jeremy R.

I needed a chicken biscuit but it was Sunday so no Chik Fil A. I passed a Whataburger and saw that there were a few minutes left for breakfast and it was on the menu. After waiting 5-7 minutes to place my order, I had to wait another 10 minutes for my order to appear. The biscuit was warm and soft, the chicken was a decent filet in crispy batter. The only issue was the sugary sauce which ruined the whole experience. Never had a gooey chicken biscuit before and hope never to again.

I'm not sure why the low stars but this location is solid. Clean, friendly staff and placed in a great location. The food was good especially if you just want to grab a quick bite.

Solid Whataburger experience! Food was fast, hot, and cooked to order -- but the real win was the friendly staff. From the cashier who double-checked my order to the sweet woman who brought my tray (and offered extras like napkins & ketchup), they made the visit feel above average. Docking one star only because the place could use a deep clean. Still, a Jr. Whataburger, hot fries, and a chocolate shake hit the spot for my walk back to the hotel.

First time in Whataburger and a delightful fast burger restaurant. My Burger melt was warm and tasty with cheese and onions. Service was fast and friendly. The ambiance of the restaurant reminded me of the old Royal Castle from years ago. If your in San Antonio Tx. Check out Whataburger.

Fun stop in downtown San Antonio at a must eat place! The birthplace of Whataburger, we went to see what the hype was all about. Turns out, fast food was terrific and cooked drag to order. The restaurant was bright and cheerful and the staff were professional, polite, and patient as we navigated the menu. Definitely worth the side quest!

I arrived late due to a delay, but I went in around 10:15 PM and enjoyed my Bacon Avocado Burger, Fries, and Diet Dr. Pepper.

We came in late. Around 11:30pm. There was nobody taking orders. Then when the guy came out he had been obviously making food in the back and going back and forth without washing his hands. The lobby was gross. Garbage all over the place and bins overflowing. Tables dirty with spilled food and drink. The place was disgusting. We waited forever for our food. I love most Whataburgers but this location was awful.

Nope Sorry! (Disclaimer... I'm a huge In-N-Out fan) TX friends wouldn't stop talking about this place and how it's the best burger spot in U.S. sorry but this isn't in the discussion. Just look at my pics... these were burgers served at the restaurant... they are sloppy and completely smushed. Couldn't imagine how they would have looked if I picked this up from a drive-thru. The taste was ok (Burger King is better and Burger King sucks). Really really disappointed. The 2 stars were for cleanliness and service. Will not return... I doubt whataburger is going to miss one customer... they have a loyal following from their local Texans.

I waited at the counter for at least 1 minute while the cashier who did not acknowledge me acted busy . I just left because someone just can't right their rudeness and make you still want to eat. But the restaurant is very clean and that's at least one good thing

There's been debate that whataburger is better than in n out. Come at me with pitch forks and fire but I think this burger chain is more comparable to mcdonalds. Looked online and the census was to try a patty melt. The cashier was a bit impatient with it being our first time. However, this is one of the only food spots open late night if your plane arrives late. They also packaged everything in one paper bag piled high rather than spread out for convenience of carrying Onion rings- crunchy rather than crisp. The onion inside is sweet. Fries- more like mcdonalde and dryer rather than crispy. Not too bad on saltiness. Patty melt bacon avocado- overly salty. I was not a fan of this but I also prefer fresher flavors. Chicken little (nuggets) it's moist and real chicken but seasoned like nuggets. Pieces are on the smaller side. Apple pie- pretty good, solid crust. Less cinnamony than mcdonalds. Spicy ketchup- indeed ketchup with a kick. Its self serve at the counter so u can get it yourself. Jalapeño ranch- also legitimately has a kick Sweet tea- verrryy sweet. Probably southern normal level though. Overall, I found the food too salty for my taste and can't compare to in n out at all in terms of freshness. I don't feel the need to come back again, but appreciate the late hours

This was a great place and a great location in downtown. The cashier was super nice, and the whole place was relatively clean. The food came out quick. I noticed that the double burger that I got was a good size, but it lacked in flavor. The fries were average. I'll be back...

So we are walking back and Whataburger is always open so we had to stop in. It's like 2:00 in the morning so at the end of the day, we needed something that was going to be open and readily available. You come in and wait in line, but if that's the only thing that serving food like this, you expect to have a little line there so it's not the end of the world. I ended up getting the patty melt with bacon, and a breakfast sandwich. Again, it's almost 2:00 in the morning right now so I have to get something related to breakfast. The manager, Shirley, really came through for us. She let us try some different sauces and different foods, we are definitely going to come back. She gets an extra star just for being her. She came through and talked to us and had some conversation, even while the work shift was happening, so I really appreciate our customer service. Customer service definitely matters to me. She had it in spades!

    Cool downtown Whataburger!

They serve a variety of burgers, sandwiches, wings, dogs, desserts, and meals include either a side of tots, fries, cucumbers with chamoy and lucas, or corn in a cup. Other sides are available as well. This trip since we craved for burgers, ordered: Bistro burger- wonderfully seasoned and cooked, served on sourdough, with avocado, grilled onions and mushrooms, mayo. One thing that should be added, the works, I felt it would be even better with the addition of lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes. I ordered the cucumbers sans chamoy and lucas. I appreciate simple veggies. Mexican burger- excellent! Juicy burger with cheese, jalapenos, pico de gallo, bacon and the works. The tater tots had a nice and crispy outer texture as it should. Overall- very good. Tasty, reasonable, clean, and great service. We'll have to make sure to come back sooner!

The food was not the best especially for the price. The drinks on other hand were amazing. My server Marah toke great care of me. Attentive, funny, and well knowledgeable. Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)

It's been a few years since I've been by; so, I was truly looking forward to getting something. I chose The Brat & tots (plain). I was very happy with my choice. The gentleman greeted me immediately. I thought it would take me a minute, but, as I stated, I chose The Brat immediately. I'm a little high strung from my age, so people kinda chuckle. It's cute. I make me smile. They put the perfect amount of mustard on it too! See the photos, but it comes covered with cabbage & crispy fried onions. It is amazing. I was able to get a whole 1/3 of it eaten before my body shut down. Tot wise, they were hot & perfectly fried! I like to dip mine in ketchup, but they offer you various other dips as well. So, I got ranch cuz, um, of course. Also, I really like their soda brand. I can't remember it, but it's a dia de los muertos skull for the logo, but I love their roots beer, which was my beverage of choice today. It's really a nice little place to just come in & sit & enjoy a yummy hotdog alone, or with family/friends.

My partner and I went on a Sunday morning just after 11am and there were already people coming in to eat. It's popular for a reason! I've eaten here a few times and had a very consistently good time, but this review will be about my most recent visit. We visited on a rainy day, but luckily we were able to snag one of the inside tables, we ordered at the counter and our orders arrived very quickly. I got the Ratchet dog which is a beef dog with queso, hot Cheetos and fried jalapeños. Dogfather uses quality dogs and buns for all of their gourmet dogs. I found the Ratchet to be meaty, salty with just right amount of spice from the jalapeños. My partner got the Pop it like it's hot, but removed the jalapeños. This was good but lacking a bit of flavor, however she and I both agreed that was on her for taking the jalapeños off the dog. Both dogs were extremely tasty, and we devoured both. I also got an order of curly fries loaded with their chili and cheese. For me, these did not have to go as HARD as they did. The chili they are using at Dogfather is seriously good, with a slight tang and a good amount of spice. It thrills but does not take away from your meal with too much heat. Very tasty. My only feedback is that Dogfather needs a larger space! There's a good size outside seating area, but for times like today when it's raining people need some coverage. They're doing it right and the crowds want to come! As I have stated this is a local favorite. If you live nearby, make it a regular spot. If you live in San Antonio, do yourself a favor and make a trip over at least sometimes. If you like hot dogs you won't go wrong.
