First time at this location. I walked in and wasn't sure what I wanted so stepped back to look over menu. Meanwhile, a man & his daughter walked in to order sandwiches. I happen to look down at the station the meat cutter was so dirty! I believe the daughter whispered to her dad about it being dirty so the worker asked him if he wanted her to clean it! I ordered from the grill and only noticed AFTER he put meat in it, how dark it was and I could see all the dark bits so the grill was dirty too. The chicken steak came out so dark that it could pass for regular steak. So disappointed. It was not busy at all so they could have taken the time to clean it. read more

This is a place that's consistent in its sandwiches. The ingredients are fresh and the bread choices are good. I always get the Turkey wrap. Never need extra meat since once you add what you want on it. It's already thick to roll up. This locations staff is very friendly. Nothing like hearing what the staff recommends. I'm reviewing Jersey Mikes because I've been getting consistently good sandwiches from this location on Main St in Matawan. I got the number 5 today, I used to get a number 11 but the 5 seems meatier somehow. Their cheesesteaks are very good too. Always a friendly greeting when entering and they're observing all covid protocols. I think I like the subs here so much because they remind me of when I was a deli manager when I was a kid. Our subs were very similar, always fresh cold cuts, bread is excellent, and toppings are done right. So stop by, get a number 5 mikes way. My husband and I have been here many times for lunch or dinner and they continue to have excellent service. I can't believe I haven't written a review for them sooner! This last visit we used the online ordering for the first time and it went perfect. We were able to put in our orders through the app and also write in any special requests in the notes. In the past the only small issue Ive had is if you take the sandwich home with you it may get a little soggy with the dressing. So this time I put in the notes section that I wanted the oil and vinegar mix kept on the side. They did exactly what was requested. They had a small container of oil and vinegar ready to go wrapped in plastic wrap to put with my order when I picked it up. The staff there is always so nice and they are efficient with getting your order done quickly and right the first time. I really like their system. I helped a friend move this weekend, on my way home i asked my son if he wanted lunch. He asked me to bring him Jersey Mikes, he loves this place. This was my first time here i got a mini Italian and chips. He got a turkey club-mikes way. They were pretty busy, they said nothing to the stoner that came in to get his pickup order. He paced the store for 3-4 minutes without a mask before he realized that his food was on a shelf. Oh well, everyone else knew how to follow protocol. The first thing that blew my mind was the Low budget cold cuts they used ....yuck. The second thing was the price, $19.00 for a mini (like two bread rolls)and a regular sub with a bag of chips. No drinks. Was the sandwich terrible? No. Would i go there again, probably not for myself. I usually go to Demarcos up the street and get their equivalent of a king Italian sub, made with boars head on fresh baked bread-Price $12.00 No idea what all the hype is about. read more

I love Jersey Mikes, but today was so disappointing. The guy making the subs after he wrapped them would pick up any left over lettuce that was on the counter and just throw it back in the with the fresh lettuce. What topped it off and I walked out was he then scraped everything off the cutting board back in with the lettuce too. When I asked why he was doing that his reply was "the subs are on the counter too"... Well they shouldn't be !!! REALLY... someone needs to retrain him. read more

So our favorite place for subs, DA Subs closed early as a result of COVID-19, we tried Jersey Mike's in Matawan. We ordered the regular cheese steak while our kids got the Italian sub. My wife and I likes the bread, the cheese, peppers and onions but the main ingredient, the steak was horrible. The meat contained gristle with almost every bite. Gristle is the fragments of the cartridge and is often indicative of a cheap cut of meat. Since the kids enjoyed their Italian subs I gave it two stars. Otherwise this particular Jersey Mikes did not even deserve the two stars for their cheese steak. read more

Came for a sandwich.. but left with an open heart. I came in on a random Monday morning, in a bit of a rush as I was about to drive to CT to a hospital where my niece had just been born.. My first nibling. I knew I needed something good to eat for lunch so wanted to grab it before I went. The 2 guys working the counter did something that's never happened to me while purchasing a sandwich anywhere.. They asked me how my day was going and what my plans were with real authenticity and curiosity. When I told them what my plans were, they suggest I ask the new parents (my brother & sis in law) if they wanted food, since they probably were eating hospital food the last day or two. I hadn't even thought of that. I was in such a rush I didn't even think of anyone but myself. I made a call to them and they were thrilled that I offered, my sister in law hadn't been able to eat ham for the last 9 months and was very happy that I called and asked. When I went to pay for the 2 subs, the guy insisted that they were on him. Truly, my mind and heart are blown at how cool that was. I was so glad I stopped into Jersey Mikes to get subs that morning. For a place called 'Jersey Mikes', these guys don't act like the average strangers you meet in NJ. My heart was wide open and I left there with the biggest smile on my face and drove to the hospital feeling amazing at how beautiful people can be. Thank you guys. read more

Slightly smaller setting than most JMs. It feels much smaller when the line starts to form mixed with people waiting for their food. It's a little confusing of who's waiting and where the line starts/ends. The food is standard JMs (delicious!) My only real beef with this place is the one female staff member (blonde hair) was rude while taking my order. It was if I was annoying her. And the staff member assigned to the grill completed a transaction on the register with his gloves on and then went back to the grill without changing his gloves. I watched as he proceeded to make sandwiches with those contaminated gloves. Gross! and no thank you. I will not be returning to this location again. read more

The sandwiches are pretty good. If you order a cold sub "The Mike's Way", they will top it with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, oil & vinegar, and spices. I've only ordered the turkey breast and provolone so far, but I keep going back which is a good thing. I would hate to compare them to any other sub shop, so I won't. I do think they can stand out from the others. I'm interested in trying one of their hot sandwiches, maybe the chicken parm, on my next visit. The customer service is pretty good, and the store is clean with a decent seating area. Great location since they are in a strip with several other, but very different, fast casual food restaurants. I have a regular joint I go for subs but figured I would give them a try. Went with the club sub which is roast beef, turkey, Swiss and bacon. They offer three (3) sizes for some unknown reason and I always go with a 1/2 sub which is just that a half of a sub loaf. Four (4) slices of each meat, that's right four (4) measly thin slices of turkey and roast beef. In essence I had a lettuce sandwich because they don't skimp on that. If not for the convenience of their location they would not make it a year. What a joke and way pricey for about 4oz of meat. No extra lettuce please.
