**Unacceptable Customer Service Experience** I'm really disappointed by the customer service I received at this location today 4/16. I arrived 30 minutes before closing--plenty of time to be served--and was met with unprofessional and frankly rude behavior by one of the two young women working, specifically the blonde employee. After stating my order, I was met with sarcastic, witticism-filled remarks. Throughout the sandwich-making process, she continued with unnecessary comments, including saying, "After a 12-hour shift, I'm locking the doors," and began removing the blades as if to prepare for closing, all while we were still clearly in the middle of ordering. The entire experience felt incredibly unwelcoming and dismissive. This was especially surprising, as I've had pleasant, friendly service here in the past. It's one of those timeless no nonsense hole in the wall gems. Great value, quality ingredients, they never skimp and are consistent, these are the best Italian subs around. Great bread, fresh lettuce, cold cuts are sliced fresh for each sub. I always get the Italian sub w lettuce, hot peppers, banana peppers, oil, vinegar, and oregano. (For me no onions. Sometimes I get mayo) Great turkey sandwiches. Great for catering a party or a picnic. I've been going here for years and they don't disappoint. This was an excellent Italian sub. The bread was a little soft, but it didn't turn to mush with oil and vinegar and a 20 minute car ride, so that was great. Meats tasted good, fresh veggies, I was a big fan. Be warned- cash only, but I think my wife said there is an ATM there. This place is worth checking out. read more

Although this sub shop is very good, the staff there are so unpleasant to deal with. I went there to get sandwiches for my family. When I ordered a cheesesteak sandwich the girl in the back of the kitchen goes omg another one. I'm a paying customer, If you don't want to do your job then simply don't work anywhere. It's the younger blonde lady that always seems to have an attitude every time no matter what you order. I went yesterday to the spot and the lady's there and unfriendly I have been going there for years the owner the guy is pleasant it also seem like they cutback on the portion of meat on the sandwich I hope this is a isolated incident . I've been hearing about D A Subs for a while with its great reviews. So I tried it out and it was pretty good. I'm very spoiled having been raised on Tastee Subs in Edison. Unfortunately NOTHING compares to them no matter how many places I've tried! However DA Subs were pretty darn close. Drawbacks were 1. Cash only option 2. Completely outdated menu online 3. Kind of limited menu choices. In any event I would return as Edison is a hike and DA's is minutes away and satisfies for a NJ SUB craving! read more

The subs will consistently fill you up for a cheaper price then competitors, and despite the inner conditions of the establishment the succulent flavors enrich my mouth each time. The best way to achieve perfection at DA subs is to find something that's delicious every time you get it. I have been coming in for cheesesteaks and that only. This place makes great subs, tremendous amount of meat with all of the toppings. Their #5 sub has ham, provolone, prosciutto, hard salami, and pepperoni. For $5 bucks and change! The bread in my opinion is just right, the meat is good quality, and you can have it topped your way with vinegar, oil, shredded lettuce, tomato, and onions. I'm a big eater and a half of one their subs is more than enough for me. A quarter of a sub is plenty for an average person. So a $5. sub can easily feed two people. The food is generally very good. But, many of the females that work there, especially the older one with long dark hair, have miserable attitudes. As if they hate their job. Sure, they say "have a nice day" but they grumpy as hell. They act like they are doing you a big favor. Even a cash tip doesn't get you a thank you or a smile. So I won't be bothered doing that anymore. I don't recommend going there in the late afternoon/early evening. They are cleaning, and their food handling and sanitation practices go down the tubes. For example, they will be spraying cleaning solution, or sweeping with gloves on, then they try making your food without hand washing or changing gloves. I called one girl out on that and she looked at me as if to say, "oh really - my cross contaminated hands aren't good enough for you?" Today, I was not happy with their food. It was their usual uninterested level of service, but with the obligatory "tip" bucket by the register. But more of a concern was their food handling practices - like putting an entire ham with no plastic wrapper right on the counter, the cleanliness of which was questionable. The lettuce on my sandwich had turned, and was mushy and tasted bad. I am really going to have to re-think continuing to give them more chances. They aren't getting better, the place is not clean enough, most of the employees have miserable demeanors. Down to three stars..... read more

HORRIBLE service. I'm from Jersey and when I'm visiting, I usually like to get a sub from this establishment. Service has always been subpar, but the subs are good, which normally keeps me coming back. Today was the worst. Called for 2 subs and immediately the girl says, in a rushed, annoyed voice, "that's gonna take like 25 to 30 minutes." I say that's fine and then I proceed to tell her I want two BLT subs. She then gets even more annoyed and says "oh, well we don't have enough bacon for that". Come to find out, my buddy said he's been told the same thing, the last few times he called. He now goes to ELI Bagels, up the street and they are way more accommodating and polite. I'm on my way to ELIs now and will never return to DAs again. Cheap and good for you value. The subs are huge. They really pile up the meat on these things. The toppings are more limited than even your typical subway. The place needs fixing up. The place looks aged and had its hayday in the 90s. The counter's edge is cracked and needs fixing. The meat display needs a new light. There is just alot of fixing that needs to be done. They need to better up their hygiene. They have one dirty rag for everything. They even touch money with their gloves. My sandwich even tasted kinda dirty. The workers need to be more professional. They kid around and that is okay but they should try to clean up a bit and be more warm. They just look depressed all the time. read more
