I will forever be indebted to this neighborhood spot. There are enough sandwiches and salads to constantly change it up, which is lucky for us because we come to this family-friendly spot to sit on the patio at least once a week. The patio opens up to Lincoln Square where my husband and I take turns playing with our toddler while the others takes a breather with a cocktail. Their kids menu has all the basics kids love with lots of sides choices, and the kids orders always come out very quickly. They're extremely tolerant of kids' antics and knowing there is a friendly and welcoming place for our family to go enjoy these last few days of warm weather is wonderful. Jerry's is a solid lunch choice. Service was efficient and friendly. Food was filling and tasty. The outside patio was beautiful and shaded. We definitely enjoyed lunch. I ordered the Rachel C, which is under the turkey section. The sandwich had thick slices of turkey, provolone cheese, avocado, lettuce and the most amazing pesto on ciabatta bread. I was only able to eat half it was that full of ingredients! When you order a sandwich, you get the option of two sides. I ordered the fries and a fruit cup. Both were small, and I expected that because it's a taste portion, but I'm talking 4 chunks of watermelon and 1 slice of pineapple small, so it was a tad disappointing. Skip the fruit and order something else. My boyfriend ordered the Ansel A, which is under the fried chicken section. It was fried chicken, American cheese and avocado on challah bread. It was HUGE! It was a little spicy, a little smoky, and very flavorful. He also ordered a side of fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw has kale mixed in it and wasn't soaked in mayo, so it was actually pretty good! The only downside (besides the small fruit cup) was the price. $13-$14 per person for a sandwich and fries seemed a little too much. It's not necessarily a deal breaker, but it definitely could have (and should have!) been $10-11 per person. This place claims to be kid-friendly but today my 2yo who has sensory issues wanted to walk around a bit to calm down when we were dining in. We usually do this for 5 mins at other restaurants like Daily with no issues since we are not disrupting the service or bothering anyone. But today the host stopped us and told me we can't do that and that kids need to stay at the table. Now I understand why he might say that but my kid wasn't even running. So then I had to force my kid to sit down and she wouldn't calm down unless I put on a show on my phone, then I saw the host and another wait staff shot us some looks while my kid stared at the phone screen. So for parents with toddlers or active hyper kids of any kind, just know that you might get judged and that probably will impact your experience. I do not recommend this place. read more

A legit 3. A possible four. The alcohol choices are strong. The food on the other hand is just good. There is definitely no need for adjectives here. The cheese curds take on their own interpretation of a cheese curd---imagine creating a pizza without ever having a pizza. As does the elote. I think both are trying to hard to break culinary boundaries. I'll just say my expectations were different than reality. Sometimes increasing a flavor profile changes a food in misleading ways. This holds true more for the elote which masked the corns flavor to criminal levels. Let's move on. I had the Cobb salad. Not much to report on that front...maybe to it's credit. This was my first time at this location. Normally the menu is truly humongous but with Covid it's not as BIG but there are still plenty of choices. Went with the Lucy B as a sandwich with sides of potato salad and macaroni & cheese. For beer got a brown ale and a milk stout. Chose to eat on patio. When I walked in the guy at the bar told me there were bees buzzing outside and thought he was exaggerating but they were out in full force. Felt safer eating outside. The way the street is designed in this part of Lincoln Square its reminiscent of some kind of Italian plaza or outdoor mall. Besides the other diners spotted folks waiting for a cafe across the streets and plenty of dog walkers and parents with kids rambling by. It is what it is. Savory sandwich on ciabatta bread. I like the philosophy behind this place and their sandwich influences. It reminds me of Zingermans in Ann Arbor, and Bat 17 in Evanston as far as quality and sandwich variety. read more

This was a very disappointing experience. Having been to the Jerry's in Andersonville which we found an outstanding experience, I can't say the same about this location. I admit I was a little concerned when we read the Yelp reviews and just about everyone had something negative to say about the service. But, since the food was so good at the other location, we thought we could put up with sub-par service. They seated us right away. As expected, it took quite a while for anyone to come by the table. If you have read my reviews before, you know that I am one of those people that restaurants hate - I have food allergies. So, I ordered a "Manny's" Pastrami sandwich that had swiss cheese melted on it and made it very clear to the wait staff that I had a milk allergy - no cheese. Since I think it is not right for this type of sandwich to be on anything but rye or challah, I asked for it on challah. When it arrived it looked great, but it was served on seven-grain bread. The server apologized and said they would remake it. It came back looking great. I did note that the portions at the Lincoln Square location are much smaller than the ones in Andersonville. Second time is supposed to be a charm. It came out about 10 minutes later (the rest of my party was almost done by then). After a few bites, I noticed the stringy strands of melted swiss dripping from the sandwich. If I was simply lactose intolerant I could have dealt with it, but I have been hospitalized several times when mistakes like this have happened before. I called over the server and calmly asked her to take it back and send the manager to the table. When I explained what happened - his answer was that he understood since he had a problem with cheese too. That is the absolute worst thing you can say to someone who doesn't just have a problem with cheese and has a real food allergy. In this case, ignorance is not bliss. This is where my wife jumped in and let him have it. He offered to take 40% off of our ticket. Frankly, he should have comped the whole meal, but we said okay. They asked if I wanted anything else, but worried about what was coming I said no. When the check arrived - he did take 40% off but still charged me for my sandwich. I walked calmly to the back and told him to remove the charge. At least he complied without an argument. So, after a long review, I gave them two stars, not one. I gave them two because the other meals were okay. The other three at the table were with me in Andersonville so they also were surprised by the small portions. But, they did try to make it right even though they did not do a good job at it. Two suggestions if you go here. (1) Make sure they get your order right. (2) Check your bill carefully, read more

My wife and I have mostly been good about staying in quarantine and avoiding contact with other people, but recently after reviewing the science we decided we were probably fine doing some patio dining in an outdoor, distance environment. Of the places near us Jerry's seemed to have the best options, and seemed to have plenty of options to meet our needs. Our first visit was great! They customized our options pretty well, and we were able to get a seat where we could keep to ourselves. The second visit was more disappointing. The busser/food server was wearing the mask under their nose, which is both foolish and pretty dangerous. Like if you are doing to do that why are you wearing a mask at all? We mentioned something to the staff, but when we came back around a little later to have some tea in the plaza we saw he was still wearing the mask the same way. We are not going to visit again, and may be done with trying to dine at restaurants at all until this is all over. read more

No one came to my table, no one served water and no one stopped by. There's always a wait but at this time of the morning it was dead so they can't even use that excuse anymore. The food has never been very good but the place has a nice set up so it's a shame that they can't get this together because they are losing customer after customer. All the people in my building have told me to avoid it and look at your reviews because this is a common thread. Get your act together or you'll be another Lincoln Square causality. This carne asada sandwich was on special and has cactus, smoked cheddar, cilantro, lettuce, southwest mayo, on ciabatta. These guys are sandwich architects. The steak was so tender and flavorful. The craft beer list is one of the best I have ever seen and the whiskey list would give a blind man blurred vision. It's one of my favorite spots for a sandwich and a beer in the entire city. The positives: the restaurant is cute and clean. All of the other servers with the exception of ours seemed extremely friendly and accommodating. The cons: our waiter was so rude that a member of our party laughed in hysterics at the levels of disrespect. The story: after a year in quarantine a group of 5 friends and I reserved a table to reunite. As soon as we arrived we were seated quickly and the table was comfortable. Our waiter however could have taught a master class in what no to do to be in food service. The moment he approached us he seemed to be in a hurry. Three members of the party arrived first and he took their drink orders. We arrived about 5 minutes after them. When he returned with the drinks he asked the table if we were ready to order food. This was a brunch. Our plan was to order several rounds of cocktails, appetizers, more cocktails and conversation, and then eat. We let him know that we just arrived and needed time to look at the menu. When he returned 2 minutes later he asked again were we ready to place a food order. One member of the party let him know that we'd like to start with drinks. He took that single persons drink order and then began to walk away. We stopped him to let him know that others wanted drinks which seemed to annoy him. He returned with the drinks and again asked "are you ready to order food". We let him know that we'd like to start with cocktails and then some appetizers. He left and returned 2 minutes later to get our appetizer order. We surrendered to his demands and ordered. He seemed annoyed again when we asked questions about the food preparation. Who knew that cheese curds and condiments could cause so much frustration. He returned with the appetizers and left never asking if we wanted more drinks. We had to waive him down to ask. When he returned to take our food order he dropped the menu that had been in his pocket in one of our appetizers and said "it's all good it didn't go in the dip, your fine". At this point my friend laughed hysterically in shock from this outrageous statement. To make this long painful story a little shorter this type of behavior continued throughout the meal. We weren't served at a reasonable pace. Once the entrees were delivered he went from overbearing to NEVER returning and at the end of it all he positioned the payment machine to give him a 25% tip and told us to ignore the survey which implies that he knew he wasn't giving quality service. I don't know his name because he never introduced himself to us when we arrived but he is a tall lean caucasian male with long hair that he wore in a top bun. If you go please avoid him at all costs since the other servers seemed really polite and professional. They are the only reason I'm giving this 2 stars. The margarita is delicious but very light on tequila and the food is just ok. Not worth the stress of the bad service from the gentleman who served us. As a side note everyone at that table is gainfully employed generous tippers and very well connected. And everyone at the table was turned off by the experience. I don't give that detail to brag but to bring awareness to the impact on business when you chose not to provide a quality experience to every customer. read more

Friday was a beautiful day in Chicago and my husband, son & I were on a hunt for outdoor dining! We decided to go to Jerry's since all other patio's were full and we've been before and enjoyed our first experience. BUT this time they fell way short on many levels! We were seated immediately at a nice spot on the patio. However, once we were seated, we waited...and waited...and waited a good 15 minutes before being initials served. And this only happened by us hunting down a server. He was less than thrilled to help us...unenthusiastic and couldn't crack a smile. I would accurately describe the waiters personality as "bitchy". We placed our drink and food order immediately, considering we had plenty of time to decide. Then we waited...and waited...and waited for our food. Tables that were seated after us received their food. Again, we hunted down our server to inquire after 40 min of waiting. Which isn't totally fun with a hungry toddler. The bitchy server looked into it begrudgingly. Apparently, the order was never placed so it was being rushed thru. Not sure if it was the server error or the equipment. They did comp our food for the inconvenience so I give them two stars for that. It's nice to sit out on the patio for drinks and will go if desperate for patio. Otherwise, stay away! The servers are snobs and food overpriced. I would prefer to spend my money at an establishment who appreciates me being there. Oh...the bus boy was great and busted his ass! My next step was to look at the reviews and they were good so I decided to stop in. Overall, it was better. (The bread a small baguette?) and braised shrimp were very good. I tried a shrimp. The sauce was good though a little salty. The place was clean and comfortable and the hostess and food runner friendly. Cons: Three of the four sides were a bit on the bland side. (Peanut pasta, baked beans, oil-heavy green salad). Not bad but nothing special. The service was very slow--must have been someone's break. After fifteen minutes I was about to go ask the hostess to send us a server when she spotted me moving and said someone would be there shortly. Our waiter came a couple minutes after and took our order. Five minutes later another waiter came and asked us if we wanted to order. The service was fine after that, though waiter #2- who apparently was supposed to be our waiter--was a little slow to give us our check. Bottom line: Very good sandwiches, hit and miss on the bread and sides, friendly but slow and disorganized service. Don't go there if you are short on time. Go if you are in no hurry. The sandwiches are good but make sure to note the kind of bread on which your sandwich is made. read more

Dude. I had an excellent dinner and beer here. Try the grilled salmon sandwhich, arachera steak sandwich, or Korean fried chicken sandwich. All home runs. Sandwiches are a deal too that are hearty and come with 2 sides. Beer selection is excellent. Like the 5 Rabbits Paletas ale or the Destihl sour stout. But have around 20 good craft beers on draft, and many more in cans and bottles. Plus, another menu for limited run beers in bombers. Add a full other cocktail list and its a party catering to anyone. Service is friendly and fast even on a crowded night. Come on a Thursday night in the summer and enjoy the weather with the retractable Windows doors facing the square with a live band playing in the background. Will come again really soon. read more

One star seems overly generous. Jerry's has a trash problem - they can't seem to prevent their trash bins from overflowing, and littering the neighborhood with trash on a regular basis. Repeated visits to ask them to clean up their act garnered responses that were initially apologetic, but quickly became full of excuses and finger-pointing. Ultimately, no one else should have to clean up your trash because you're engaged in a dispute with your waste management provider. At one point, it was so bad that their industrial trash bin made a break for it, and attempted to make a new home in the front yard of someone unfortunate enough to live nearby. Their response? It isn't ours! Even though the bin was clearly labeled with their name, address, etc. Now, they've decided the quickest route to resolving the dispute with their waste management provider is to abandon their trash bins altogether. So they've pushed them to a spot in a public alleyway and made a poor attempt at removing their identifying information. In terms of food & cleanliness, Jerry's is a poor addition to a great neighborhood (yes, I've eaten there; no, it's not noteworthy enough to mention). If you're choosing a local business to support, please choose a different one. read more

I've been to both Jerry's locations in Chicago, food is always delicious. This location is a bit bigger but the menu is still up to par. Beer list is also pretty good with a little bit of everything. I must admit however it can be hit or miss with the service at times. It's usually just me and my young one stopping by for lunch and we usually get pretty great service out on the patio. Once or twice we will get hit with the grumpy or less active server but like all things there is the good and the bad. Still would recommend for a good beer and sandwich combo. read more

Update: Tried this place a second time and I've become less impressed. The service is atrocious! Wait forever to be acknowledged. Don't get your drinks. Table may or may not be cleared. Same server I had the first time and after being open for months things just aren't getting better. Have to drop your stars, guys. Let me tell you, this is no ordinary sandwich place (like my dearly departed Costellos, RIP). This place is almost more bar than restaurant. Big beer and cocktail list and a growing list of alcohol-related events. The space is really cool. I could definitely see spending some time in here. It's a nice balance to the existing bar scene in the area. As for the sandwiches...lots of fun combinations. My boyfriend had the Western burger and said that it was really good, but not in the same league as Kuma's or Lockdown. But it clearly isn't meant to be. It's an "artsy" burger, in his term. Lots of good flavor in the meat itself. I ordered one of the chicken salad sandwiches. It was good, but the bread was kind of dry. I'd try something on a pretzel roll next time.
