As a lifelong fan of the Grateful Dead, I love the subtle Garcia theme. The artwork hanging in the place fits with the theme but is definitely not in your face, very cool vibe for a late spring Sunday evening in Lincoln Square. Cheese curds were average, but the dipping sauces were really tasty. The barbecue beans (vegetarian) are sweet, tangy and spicy - delicious. The spiced apples were a bit too "clovy". The Janice J (tuna burger) was out of this world with spice and rich umami flavor. The sesame bun is delightful. A companion had the brisket sandwich - way too fatty, average flavor and very tough - not what you look for in brisket and a huge disappointment. She wanted a burger, but because it's "Burger Month", they were out of burgers - how can that be? Parisienne burger was good. The Burgh burger was dry, but tasty. Likely because you can only order your burger medium or well done. Service is ok. Overall, an interesting place, but nothing to write home about. read more

Great service our waiter i think was named Michael he was very nice and helpful with a beer option and food choices. The Joey V sandwich was really good, skirt steak was tender and it had all the right toppings. It came with 2 sides, i got the mashed potatoes with polbano peppers and the house chips both really tasty. Will definitely come back! Easy near by parking was a plus too, also in the nice Lincoln Square neighborhood read more

I just stopped into Jerry's with some family, and I'm so displeased that our experience was horrible. The service was the absolute worst I have personally ever experienced. I work in hospitality as a bartender and server In Chicago and I can tell you all firsthand that our servers presentation, attitude, posture, tonality, communication, and timeliness was absolutely unacceptable. He showed up to out table 12 min after we sat down, didn't give any sort of introduction or welcome, never once said please, thank you, or sorry, and seemed very aggressive, tense, and unfriendly. My family was very uncomfortable and we left very unhappy. I wish I had known our severs name, although he never told us since he barley spoke to us, besides in a very derogatory manner. He looked really messy as well, as if he had just woke up from a bad night. I don't recommend. read more

We came to Jerry's after recommendation from family. The place has a great location, with a nice, warm interior. Service was friendly and attentive. Ended up ordering the Clint E. w/ french fries and mac & cheese as our side. The first thing I noticed was how much lettuce they crammed into the sandwich. Seriously...look at that thing; it looks like a lettuce sandwich?!? My girlfriend and I were sharing, and we were both in quick agreement to shed more than half of it. The sandwich itself was tasty, loved the crunch and flavor of the fried shiitake mushrooms. French fries were also good. Mac & cheese was meh at best. Our whole table was in agreement that something was off about it. Cheese was kind of watery and I honestly didn't even want to finish it. The sandwiches were well-received by all parties in our group. It's just a shame they're bogged down by excessive amounts of lettuce and sub-par side items. Because I am curious to try more of their sandwiches. read more

I really enjoyed my meal at Jerry's! I ordered the Eli W, a turkey sandwich with avocado, lettuce, bacon, and avocado. This was a casual sit down spot! They have a very large menu of drinks and sandwiches, and I liked that you can get two different sides with your sandwich (though the portion is pretty small.) All in all, I had a good experience and would return. read more

Usually this is my go to salad spot. But today was an absolute nightmare. I was picking up a tossed flame salad to go, planning on taking it to work to eat. The salad was a mess. I asked for it tossed in dressing, however this salad was absolutely doused in dressing. Everything was soggy and practically drowning in dressing. Not only that but the salad was tiny. Usually it is a much larger portion. Threw it away immediately. $20 for this?? read more

I got some coffee, tea, and baked goods. The drinks were amazing! Unsweetened black iced tea, with a splash of lemonade was so refreshing. The unique Rose Chai Latte was uniquely flavored and full of flavor, and I loved it! The ladies serving me were extremely helpful, as it was my my first time there. My husband and I plan on going back for sure soon, because the lunch sandwiches were looking and smelling amazing. I love their hot and cold beverages as they were flavor tasting, especially compared to Starbucks. The smell of the food throughout the restaurant and wonderful staff and service will have us coming back soon; and this place is a long drive from the Southside! read more

Jerry's has been one of my favorite places in the neighborhood, but my most recent order was disappointing. I ordered a sandwich, which was great, but the bread pudding was thrown in a plastic bag. Good food, terrible service. I would cut them some slack due to the warm weather increasing the number of tables, but it's always like this. A few (admittedly tasty) sandwiches and one round of draft beer should not take 90 minutes. Don't go if you're on a schedule. read more

This place claims to be kid-friendly but today my 2yo who has sensory issues wanted to walk around a bit to calm down when we were dining in. We usually do this for 5 mins at other restaurants like Daily with no issues since we are not disrupting the service or bothering anyone. But today the host stopped us and told me we can't do that and that kids need to stay at the table. Now I understand why he might say that but my kid wasn't even running. So then I had to force my kid to sit down and she wouldn't calm down unless I put on a show on my phone, then I saw the host and another wait staff shot us some looks while my kid stared at the phone screen. So for parents with toddlers or active hyper kids of any kind, just know that you might get judged and that probably will impact your experience. I do not recommend this place. read more

Kinda hodgy podgy decor inside..but great outdoor seating if you can snag it. Opted for the sammies. They basically use the meat + slaw+ sauce methodology which executed well are usually very good. I think better bread and the sauce on the sammie would've elevated these sammies and would've seemed worth the cost of each.. The Sandra O was $15.95. The bread was very chewy and bland. The sauce tasted only of honey. Was alot of sauce and not much flavor. The Manny S was $16.95. This was corned beef, slaw, dressing etc. The bread was toasted sandwich bread ( like maybe a wheat toast you'd get from any bagged bread. Nothing special. The best part of this sammie was the pickled jalepeno. The bread just wasn't right for this sandwich. Even though you get decent options for sides they were not worth these prices as is. I kinda expected this to be better than your average diner. I did see a salad being served that looked very good. The fried avocado app was ok. They needed to season the avocado before battering it but it was worth a try. Server was nice and attentive. Decent pours. read more

i ordered takeout from here, excited to try a new restaurant that a trusted friend recommended. the online ordering didn't have a place for notes, so after ordering, i called to ask for no aioli on my sandwich. she said she'd let the kitchen know. after I picked up my food and got home, I noticed there was still aioli. I was very disappointed. outside of that the sandwich tasted pretty good, the baked beans were decent, but the mac and cheese was below average. also very small portion sizes for the amount you're paying ($20 for this!) i'm pretty disappointed in this place, not sure if i'll be coming back. read more

I will forever be indebted to this neighborhood spot. There are enough sandwiches and salads to constantly change it up, which is lucky for us because we come to this family-friendly spot to sit on the patio at least once a week. The patio opens up to Lincoln Square where my husband and I take turns playing with our toddler while the others takes a breather with a cocktail. Their kids menu has all the basics kids love with lots of sides choices, and the kids orders always come out very quickly. They're extremely tolerant of kids' antics and knowing there is a friendly and welcoming place for our family to go enjoy these last few days of warm weather is wonderful. Really diverse beer selection, and the servers are really hard-working and laid back at the same time. read more

A legit 3. A possible four. The alcohol choices are strong. The food on the other hand is just good. There is definitely no need for adjectives here. The cheese curds take on their own interpretation of a cheese curd---imagine creating a pizza without ever having a pizza. As does the elote. I think both are trying to hard to break culinary boundaries. I'll just say my expectations were different than reality. Sometimes increasing a flavor profile changes a food in misleading ways. This holds true more for the elote which masked the corns flavor to criminal levels. Let's move on. I had the Cobb salad. Not much to report on that front...maybe to it's credit. My wife had the Jenny sandwich and enjoyed it immensely making pleasing sounds. I never hear pleasing sounds from her anymore. So 4 stars. read more

This was my first time at this location. Normally the menu is truly humongous but with Covid it's not as BIG but there are still plenty of choices. Went with the Lucy B as a sandwich with sides of potato salad and macaroni & cheese. For beer got a brown ale and a milk stout. Chose to eat on patio. When I walked in the guy at the bar told me there were bees buzzing outside and thought he was exaggerating but they were out in full force. Felt safer eating outside. The way the street is designed in this part of Lincoln Square its reminiscent of some kind of Italian plaza or outdoor mall. Besides the other diners spotted folks waiting for a cafe across the streets and plenty of dog walkers and parents with kids rambling by. It is what it is. Savory sandwich on ciabatta bread. I like the philosophy behind this place and their sandwich influences. It reminds me of Zingermans in Ann Arbor, and Bat 17 in Evanston as far as quality and sandwich variety. read more

The good: Place was clean. Staff was friendly. Beer list had nice options. So many menu options to chose from. Food came out quick. Room for improvement: Served our meals, Did not get utensils for a bit. Not asked for drink refills until we were done with the meal and ready to go. A little pricey for sandwiches, kids meal in particular. Wife's caprese grilled cheese was cold. Side of potato salad was more of a sample. A good sample, but small. Grilled meatloaf was average. This was a very disappointing experience. Having been to the Jerry's in Andersonville which we found an outstanding experience, I can't say the same about this location. I admit I was a little concerned when we read the Yelp reviews and just about everyone had something negative to say about the service. But, since the food was so good at the other location, we thought we could put up with sub-par service. They seated us right away. As expected, it took quite a while for anyone to come by the table. If you have read my reviews before, you know that I am one of those people that restaurants hate - I have food allergies. So, I ordered a "Manny's" Pastrami sandwich that had swiss cheese melted on it and made it very clear to the wait staff that I had a milk allergy - no cheese. Since I think it is not right for this type of sandwich to be on anything but rye or challah, I asked for it on challah. When it arrived it looked great, but it was served on seven-grain bread. The server apologized and said they would remake it. It came back looking great. I did note that the portions at the Lincoln Square location are much smaller than the ones in Andersonville. Second time is supposed to be a charm. It came out about 10 minutes later (the rest of my party was almost done by then). After a few bites, I noticed the stringy strands of melted swiss dripping from the sandwich. If I was simply lactose intolerant I could have dealt with it, but I have been hospitalized several times when mistakes like this have happened before. I called over the server and calmly asked her to take it back and send the manager to the table. When I explained what happened - his answer was that he understood since he had a problem with cheese too. That is the absolute worst thing you can say to someone who doesn't just have a problem with cheese and has a real food allergy. In this case, ignorance is not bliss. This is where my wife jumped in and let him have it. He offered to take 40% off of our ticket. Frankly, he should have comped the whole meal, but we said okay. They asked if I wanted anything else, but worried about what was coming I said no. When the check arrived - he did take 40% off but still charged me for my sandwich. I walked calmly to the back and told him to remove the charge. At least he complied without an argument. So, after a long review, I gave them two stars, not one. I gave them two because the other meals were okay. The other three at the table were with me in Andersonville so they also were surprised by the small portions. But, they did try to make it right even though they did not do a good job at it. Two suggestions if you go here. (1) Make sure they get your order right. (2) Check your bill carefully, read more

Friday was a beautiful day in Chicago and my husband, son & I were on a hunt for outdoor dining! We decided to go to Jerry's since all other patio's were full and we've been before and enjoyed our first experience. BUT this time they fell way short on many levels! We were seated immediately at a nice spot on the patio. However, once we were seated, we waited...and waited...and waited a good 15 minutes before being initials served. And this only happened by us hunting down a server. He was less than thrilled to help us...unenthusiastic and couldn't crack a smile. I would accurately describe the waiters personality as "bitchy". We placed our drink and food order immediately, considering we had plenty of time to decide. Then we waited...and waited...and waited for our food. Tables that were seated after us received their food. Again, we hunted down our server to inquire after 40 min of waiting. Which isn't totally fun with a hungry toddler. The bitchy server looked into it begrudgingly. Apparently, the order was never placed so it was being rushed thru. Not sure if it was the server error or the equipment. They did comp our food for the inconvenience so I give them two stars for that. It's nice to sit out on the patio for drinks and will go if desperate for patio. Otherwise, stay away! The servers are snobs and food overpriced. I would prefer to spend my money at an establishment who appreciates me being there. Oh...the bus boy was great and busted his ass! He did show our appreciation for his hard work! read more

My wife and I have mostly been good about staying in quarantine and avoiding contact with other people, but recently after reviewing the science we decided we were probably fine doing some patio dining in an outdoor, distance environment. Of the places near us Jerry's seemed to have the best options, and seemed to have plenty of options to meet our needs. Our first visit was great! They customized our options pretty well, and we were able to get a seat where we could keep to ourselves. The second visit was more disappointing. The busser/food server was wearing the mask under their nose, which is both foolish and pretty dangerous. Like if you are doing to do that why are you wearing a mask at all? We mentioned something to the staff, but when we came back around a little later to have some tea in the plaza we saw he was still wearing the mask the same way. We are not going to visit again, and may be done with trying to dine at restaurants at all until this is all over. read more

New restaurant in the heart of Lincoln Square strip had a lot of hype impatiently waiting for their grand opening! Unfortunately after two tries, I don't think I'll try this establishment again. Pros: Huge restaurant with plenty of space, (great for families) extensive beer menu, crab dip is delicious Cons: Sandwiches. What? How can a sandwich joint serve underrated sandwiches? The bread was very disappointing/basic and just the taste alone makes it seem like I just stayed at home and slapped something quick together. Especially the price you pay when you get that hefty bill when you leave for "just meh" sandwiches.. I'd rather just go there to try their beer selection at that point. (Paid average $80 for two) not worth it. read more

It's worse than the Jerry's on Clark St. and that's really saying something. I've gone in twice and both times received no service. None. No one came to my table, no one served water and no one stopped by. There's always a wait but at this time of the morning it was dead so they can't even use that excuse anymore. The food has never been very good but the place has a nice set up so it's a shame that they can't get this together because they are losing customer after customer. Dude. I had an excellent dinner and beer here. Try the grilled salmon sandwhich, arachera steak sandwich, or Korean fried chicken sandwich. All home runs. Sandwiches are a deal too that are hearty and come with 2 sides. Beer selection is excellent. Like the 5 Rabbits Paletas ale or the Destihl sour stout. But have around 20 good craft beers on draft, and many more in cans and bottles. Plus, another menu for limited run beers in bombers. Add a full other cocktail list and its a party catering to anyone. Service is friendly and fast even on a crowded night. This post is a little delayed. If u live in Chicago and have not been to Jerry's, life is beating u. This carne asada sandwich was on special and has cactus, smoked cheddar, cilantro, lettuce, southwest mayo, on ciabatta. These guys are sandwich architects. The steak was so tender and flavorful. The positives: the restaurant is cute and clean. All of the other servers with the exception of ours seemed extremely friendly and accommodating. The cons: our waiter was so rude that a member of our party laughed in hysterics at the levels of disrespect. The story: after a year in quarantine a group of 5 friends and I reserved a table to reunite. As soon as we arrived we were seated quickly and the table was comfortable. Our waiter however could have taught a master class in what no to do to be in food service. The moment he approached us he seemed to be in a hurry. Three members of the party arrived first and he took their drink orders. We arrived about 5 minutes after them. When he returned with the drinks he asked the table if we were ready to order food. This was a brunch. Our plan was to order several rounds of cocktails, appetizers, more cocktails and conversation, and then eat. We let him know that we just arrived and needed time to look at the menu. When he returned 2 minutes later he asked again were we ready to place a food order. One member of the party let him know that we'd like to start with drinks. He took that single persons drink order and then began to walk away. We stopped him to let him know that others wanted drinks which seemed to annoy him. He returned with the drinks and again asked "are you ready to order food". We let him know that we'd like to start with cocktails and then some appetizers. He left and returned 2 minutes later to get our appetizer order. We surrendered to his demands and ordered. He seemed annoyed again when we asked questions about the food preparation. Who knew that cheese curds and condiments could cause so much frustration. He returned with the appetizers and left never asking if we wanted more drinks. We had to waive him down to ask. When he returned to take our food order he dropped the menu that had been in his pocket in one of our appetizers and said "it's all good it didn't go in the dip, your fine". At this point my friend laughed hysterically in shock from this outrageous statement. To make this long painful story a little shorter this type of behavior continued throughout the meal. We weren't served at a reasonable pace. Once the entrees were delivered he went from overbearing to NEVER returning and at the end of it all he positioned the payment machine to give him a 25% tip and told us to ignore the survey which implies that he knew he wasn't giving quality service. I don't know his name because he never introduced himself to us when we arrived but he is a tall lean caucasian male with long hair that he wore in a top bun. If you go please avoid him at all costs since the other servers seemed really polite and professional. They are the only reason I'm giving this 2 stars. The margarita is delicious but very light on tequila and the food is just ok. Not worth the stress of the bad service from the gentleman who served us. As a side note everyone at that table is gainfully employed generous tippers and very well connected. And everyone at the table was turned off by the experience. I don't give that detail to brag but to bring awareness to the impact on business when you chose not to provide a quality experience to every customer. read more

We love the food at Jerry's. I'm usually sketched out by a menu with so many options, but the food never disappoints. Unfortunately, I'm leaving this review after a handful of poor service experiences. The staff seems...out to lunch. Dazed, confused even. As a result, service is slow, staff lacks knowledge of the menu, and owners are missing out on profit. I might buy a second mimosa if I saw our server between order placement and payment. Update: Tried this place a second time and I've become less impressed. The service is atrocious! Wait forever to be acknowledged. Don't get your drinks. Table may or may not be cleared. Same server I had the first time and after being open for months things just aren't getting better. Have to drop your stars, guys. Let me tell you, this is no ordinary sandwich place (like my dearly departed Costellos, RIP). This place is almost more bar than restaurant. Big beer and cocktail list and a growing list of alcohol-related events. The space is really cool. I could definitely see spending some time in here. It's a nice balance to the existing bar scene in the area. As for the sandwiches...lots of fun combinations. My boyfriend had the Western burger and said that it was really good, but not in the same league as Kuma's or Lockdown. But it clearly isn't meant to be. It's an "artsy" burger, in his term. Lots of good flavor in the meat itself. I ordered one of the chicken salad sandwiches. It was good, but the bread was kind of dry. I'd try something on a pretzel roll next time. Before I wrap up, let me tell you about the mac and cheese side. O. M. G. I kind of want to do inappropriate things with it, it was so good!
