I've been to JenChans many times and it's been nothing short of amazing every time. Last night the neighborhood lost power and we had my niece down for her 18th birthday. Our potential dinner plans we thought were ruined. Emily found a way for her and her team to stay open to serve their community. An impromptu candle lit dinner and delicious food was what we got! Everyone loved it and my family can't wait to come back. Emily in the kitchen cooking food flawlessly with a head lamp on speaks volumes of her character and work ethic. Their constantly rotating menu with fun mashups of different cuisines keeps things fresh. The owner and staff are so passionate and upbeat, you can't help but want to return. **Atmosphere - 5 Stars** JenChans has a very homey atmosphere with chinese lanterns, group photos, and a kids chalkboard coloring station. On Sundays, they do a farm-table style family dinner so everyone can get to know each other since they are tight knit with the neighboring hoods. **Service - 5 Stars** The staff has always been super nice and attentive. The owner (Emily) has approached my group and myself multiple times to ask how things are, requests constructive feedback, and infects you with her passion for this neighborhood and restaurant. **Food - 5 Stars** First, they have their supper-club delivery service which you can order online and get delivered to your house, akin to meal service deliveries except these are frozen and feel so much more made-with-love. They have a cooler of frozen/refrigerated items that range from small bites (e.g. charsui pork buns, egg rolls) to full meals (containers of black bean spare ribs, gouda/cheddar mac & cheese) which are also great. Not to mention shelves of homemade jams, oils and sauces. Their lunch, brunch and dinner menu has its staple items plus a lot of specials that rotate through. I keep trying to work my way through the menu but it's proving to be difficult in the best of ways. Most items have asian influence but many times, Emily just asks her kitchen staff to come up with things based on their inventory. Salmon croquettes? Why not! (and of course they were amazing). **Prices - 5 Stars** It's great to have a spot that is not only reasonably priced for the area, but gives you a good quantity of quality food without feeling like you need to go into a food coma. There are specialty dishes that can run $20+ but you can easily find well-priced lunch and dinner options that will still satisfy. **Drinks - N/A** They should be acquiring their liquor license come the new year. My previous visits they were amazing about BYOB, having a free corkage service and providing glasses. Be sure to tip extra if you're going this route because your bill is going to be smaller than usual with all the great prices :) read more

I have ordered many items from JenChan's. The food is so diverse - there is really something for everyone. I am a weekly subscriber to the Supper Club and LOVE that I can have a restaurant quality meal at home once a week for a lot less than I would spend eating out. I used their catering service for a company outing. I emailed them with our needs - including a vegetarian option and a sensitive stomach option. They put together the perfect menu, delivered and set up on time, and the food was a HUGE hit! Even my picky eaters were happy and my adventurous eaters got to have something different than the standard salad and sandwich. PLUS the food was still light enough not to put us in a food coma for the afternoon. AND there were super yummy desserts that were also light and delicious. And last but not least - I asked them to put together a care package for a dear friend when her husband (my colleague and also a dear friend) passed unexpectedly. I was in no state to make decisions on what would be good to send. I emailed JenChan's and they took the reigns and put together something perfect. Right now, JenChan's has only five star reviews, but that's not going to last, so sorry to the restaurant, but I feel differently. While nothing I ate there was bad, I live ever so close and yet won't be returning. The Asian/Southern concept is fine in theory; it could work I imagine. But the corn fritters were rock-like and the egg rolls with pimento cheese had just a squirt of pimento cheese. They were fine, but really not as good as they sounded. The fried tofu salad was a very decent attempt at a healthy somethingerother, but I wouldn't want to order it again. The Coconut Curry Bowl is $14, yet it tasted like something I could make myself and my wife banned me years ago from making any Asian cuisine because I made things that very closely resemble the Coconut Curry Bowl. Honestly - everything you want from a local spot. We have eaten in or had delivery several times, but last nights meal made me realize I need to rate them. We were enjoying a nice night outside and we're well taken care of. Our server told us there was a mistake and our pizza was missed (we didn't even really notice) and got us a round of drinks. The pizza came moments later - delivered by the chef - and was awesome (Teaches for Peaches - get it while in season). The glass of wine I wanted ran out and they brought me the remainder plus options to taste as a substitute. One of the best eats in Atlanta, everything that I have tried has a been a 10/10. They're curry shrimp noodles is so savory and filling with the perfect blends of spices you couldn't ask for more. The ambience is great and the waiters do show concern and love for this place. We had planned visit this place from a long time now. Here is our experience. Parking can be a little challenging if you don't know the area. The areas is a a cozy , cute , cabbage town. When we got there nobody welcomed us at the door and the employees at the bar just looked at us like if we were no customers that just came in. We get it! Two latinas coming in to this place that maybe don't look like the typical clients! AnywaSo we approached the bar area to ask if we should seat anywhere. I get that restaurants are struggling with short staff thats why we need to enforce the people at the bar make sure sople feel welcome. Once at the table, this was wobbling. My wife fixed it putting a paper under one of the table's legs. Ok. Drinks. Chardonnay served in a small glass. I'm used to a bigger glass when drinking wine. Don't know if red wine is serve in a bigger glass which it should. However, the Chardonnay was good. Food. Street Fries were amazing! Pizza 007 was delicious. Overall, the experience was good. Sure, but its a limited menu with a premium tacked on. EVERY TIME my food from these services has been cold/mediocre at best. This. This right here. Nothing in ATL like it. Our order arrived neatly packaged (see photos). We ordered the black bean spare ribs small, for two. We popped it in the oven at 350 for 45 minutes and our meal was ready. the two servers, server 1 recently hired and server 2 hired that night, had no idea how to attend to the 6 people in the entire restaurant. our drink order took 10 minutes. this comprised of 2 beers from the small fridge 10 feet away, passed several times by said servers. Server 1 perched at the bar on his iPhone for 5 minutes because he had forgotten about us waiting to order our main course while he was contemplating opening the fridge. Our food came out late and cold. $127 later, for 3 beers, wings, and a pizza, the staff of Jen Chan's determined that they are not able to provide the pizza box to take home the other half. Instead, I need a salad box for the half pizza, because the 80 pizza boxes sitting on top of the beer fridge are reserved for the to-go orders. I asked again thinking he was joking but he was serious. So I laughed and told him to bring me the check. Guess who won't be getting anything to go from Jen Chan's....me. Hire right. there are plenty of restaurants in Atlanta. Have you thought that maybe Your restaurant was empty for a reason? And that reason is that your staff cannot do their job. It is insulting to charge high Prices for unexceptional food that is served by children that can't get off their phones and do their jobs. While I assume you took pride in your business and menu at one point in the history of Jen Chan's, it appears today that you are complacent and satisfied offering a low quality product. 100 yards away is Agave, one of the best dining Experiences in Atlanta. Updating my review because perhaps my first try was a bit harsh and because, well, full disclosure, the JenChan staff wrote me and honestly it was the sweetest, most heartfelt, humble message ever. So full of passion that I cannot stomach the thought that my previously 2-star review could play any part in harming JenChan's business. We need more people like JenChan/her staff in this world who really care about what they do and are resilient enough to face the world and do so with a smile. So take two: same opinions but with more perspective... JenChan's ambiance is not my favorite. I didn't like the layout of the place when it was Mouth of the South, and I was really hoping that JenChan had changed the inside significantly. Significant structural changes would imaginably have been hugely expensive. So, I suppose JenChan did the best she could, but it just wasn't the total transformation I wanted. A pro: it is charming that there are family/friend pics on the walls. A downside: there are some lighting challenges, but I guess if you asked the staff to dim the lights, they probably would. What I now know about JenChan's is that she and her community poured a lot of heart into the physical space. I hope with their continued success, they might get the opportunity to do more. In good news, one server gal was absolutely delightful. So genuinely energetic and a great server. A heads-up that JenChans corn fritters are hush puppies, not fritters. They are tasty, but they just aren't fritters. Pimento cheese egg rolls were great. Delighted they weren't too cheesey. Coconut curry. Watch out: it's VERY spicy. And I have a high tolerance for ghost peppers, habanero, etc with ease. This dish has a heavy handed CuRrY kIcK!!! There is not warning on the menu, so consider yourself informed. If the curry spice was toned down a bit, I imagine this dish would be very good. All in all, JenChan's strength is the positive energy exuding from the staff and those who have invested into her success. I do recommend checking it out. read more

Some of the best food in town, passionate owners who are pulling out all the stops and adjusting to keep serving during COVID against all odds, without sacrificing safety or quality. Easy deliveries through their restaurant or supper club, efficient and safe take out, outdoor dining. Food is creative and always delicious. Our long-time favorite is their staple lasagna with homemade noodles, but we also have fun trying all kinds of new stuff that they come up with each week. One of the best places to be a delivery regular, since you won't end up ordering the same thing every time! Wow! I just finished dinner and really can't say enough good things about the food that these women are putting together. But since that's kind of the whole point of a review, here goes: - Packaging: all of the portions are packaged using recyclable materials. ZERO plastic! And the entire meal comes in a super cute insulated, reusable bag. - Shaved Kale Salad: I will be the first to admit that kale is a tough thing for me to get excited about, so I had pretty low expectations for this. Boy was I wrong! The flavor of all of the ingredients and the dressing come together and I was literally scraping the last bites out of the bowl so that I didn't miss a bite. - Mongolian Beef cheesesteak: the bread was excellent, the meat, onions & peppers combination was perfection, with melty smoked Gouda to top it off. My order of 2 servings was ample to make 2 hearty sandwiches and still have some leftovers for lunch tomorrow! And since I am a culinarily challenged lady with a full time job, the BEST part is that I was able to serve my husband an amazingly delicious meal on a weeknight which required basically no effort in my part.
