I've been here 3 times. First visit was to get ice cream and it was almost 3 years ago. I don't remember much from that visit. The last two times I've been there was in the last 3 months. I ordered chicken strips and sweet potato fries, and the most recent visit was 2 days ago, I ordered a BBQ burger. I was so disappointed with the quality of food. The chicken strips tasted like they were fried in oil that hasn't been changed in over a year. They tasted bitter. I thought the fries would taste better, but they were so greasy and honestly didn't have much flavor to them, I didn't think you can go wrong with fries, but I was wrong. I expected a little more, being that it is a family run business that has been around for so long, and they have a unique story, I thought it was going to be Newberg's gem, I was wrong. My most recent visit was the result of being hungry, and I thought I'd give it one more try.....oh I was so wrong. I ordered a burger and the meat tasted old and gamey. It first made me think that it underwent a freezer burn. I left the place and had the worst stomach ache afterward. My advice is put a little more love into your food, it can't possibly cost you that much. There is great potential here however, when you serve hamburger that tastes like it is old, it's just wrong. read more

This is a local favorite that provides consistently good service and food. Besides the ice cream they have a great food menu that is classic greasy spoon fare that is filling and delicious. Really disappointed with our most recent encounter with Jem 100. The burgers are usually better. This time one of the burgers came with a little extra hair. We had an order to go. They left out the french fries that we paid for. When we called to inform them about the missing fries and the extra hair all we got was a sorry. They said we would get a free french fry order next time but in fact it would not be free because we already paid for an order and did not get it. This is poor customer service. Most places would replace the burger with hair in it or agree to provide the next meal free. read more

This place isn't bad at all.. But, its not the best, in my opinion! I would almost just go to Bugerville in town for the same price value and type of food. Be prepared to look for parking as soon as you come to this place, that's assuming you don't hit the busy dinner hours, lunch time or weekends. The parking lot can hold about 7 cars in the front all packed in together with pretty bad spacing for larger cars or trucks. You can park in the rear, but there are aren't that many places to park a big long car, or truck again. It shares a parking lot with the pizza place so cars are flooding in and out and avoiding getting hit. Seating is alright, I mean enough for a good amount of people, but if you come on a weekend or Friday night you probably should just eat your food in the car. I would say that there are at least 15 booths are of which that are close to the table so if you are a bit bigger then most you get to suck in your gut most the time during your visit. Followed by the round chairs that sit two people. Not really the best for a large family or group of people if you are looking to eat there on a weekend or Friday night. The restaurant isn't that big, kinda like back in the 50's type diner feeling. It's a pretty narrow walk way so you have to dodge little kids running around, people waiting to order or people who are waiting for their ice cream/shakes/food to go. You really have to watch your step and hope you aren't stepping on anyone's toes while you are there and keeping little kids from roaming all over the ice cream display is pretty tough. So if you're ordering, expect some prying eyes on you while you order. Price varies, for me personally I feel it's just as the same as Bugerville kinda high priced for an okay burger. Really the joy is going for the ice cream there, and the shakes. The prices are good for ice cream and shakes compared to most places. The food is like I said okay. Not great, just okay. Since the menu is on the board up top of you, you really have to ask what comes on the burgers.. REPEAT: YOU REALLY HAVE TO ASK WHAT IS ON THE BURGERS! I say that because I have a thing with pickles, not allergic, but they make me icky. I asked for no pickles on my burger and got it with no pickles, but the sauce or whatever they call it had chopped up pickles in it. Was not a good end result for me. So like I said, make sure you ask what is on the sandwiches. I really think all the food is just like going to a fast food place, nothing special, nothing like a mystery or anything like that. Just a frozen patty on a grill. I say check it out for the ice cream and shakes, but nothing else. You might as well just go to another place that has a take out window, better seating, less of a tight squeeze feeling and just a normal burger. read more

I'm yet to have a good burger in Newberg. McDonalds has surpassed them all so far. I don't expect superb service a place where all teenagers are working. But they were pretty pleasant. The burger was dry and had no flavor. Fries were great. Ice cream was great. I'm willing to pay good money for a nice juicy burger but I'll keep looking. read more

Wow, other reviewers aren't kidding about weighing your cup/cone of ice cream! There was a huge line behind me and they're painstakingly, slowly removing about 1/2 teaspoon of ice cream from my dish to get the right weight. Top that with the fact that they only had enough flavors on hand to fill half their coolers, and what was there wasn't even correctly labeled, and I'd have to say that next time I'll be driving a few extra minutes to get ice cream at Baskin Robins in Sherwood. read more

I love coming here. It's often packed and noisy, but it has that authentic diner feel. Great ice cream, but even better burgers. The nachos could use some work though... Because of the store's set up, it can be hard to order, or to know whose turn it is to order so be prepared for a little bit of chaos. They've gotten tighter on the quality control of ice cream proportions, which sucks. I used to love getting huge scoops from them, but 2 scoops now looks the same as 1 scoop. read more

Jem 100 is a place I want to like. But the last few times I have gone the service was terrible. We came in at 9pm which is one hour before they close. They couldn't be more rude. They were already closing up and were audibly annoyed. The ice creams were all covered and half of the refrigerators were empty. As someone who has worked in food service, one of the worse things you can do is start closing early. 5, 10 or even 15 minutes before closing, sure. But an hour is absolutely ridiculous. One of my friends asked for a shake and the server just stared at him and the walked away. One guy was pretty cool and even came over and asked if we needed anything. But the others were either talking to their high school friends or sulking. Another time we came in at 9:30. Before we walked in we could see them staring at us and talking. When I walked in I asked if it was alright and confirmed they closed at 10. The girl actually said "uhhh....like, we are closing" So we left. They lost the service of 6-7 of us. read more

The prices are fair and the food is good. The ice cream is delicious and the employees are friendly. The restaurant has that old diner feel and would be perfect if the lighting was a little brighter. They also keep their bathrooms very clean and tidy. Sadly, the service is very spotty. I live near by and go in from time to time and sometimes they can get the food to you at a decent time but usually you will be waiting a while. The last time I went in the place had a few booths of people and my friend and I ordered chicken strips and fries. A little over an hour later they place the food on our table and leave without asking if we had what we needed. They never said anything about the wait. I remember thinking to myself that I could walk home, make some chicken strips and fries from scratch and bring them back before my food came. I was so hungry I ate the whole thing in 5 minutes even though the food had been sitting and was room temperature by the time it got to me. They mean well but the employees are young and inexperienced for the most part. I think this can be fixed with more training or by having a manager present more often. read more

Perfect end to a perfect day. After a hard workout at the Evergreen water park, we stopped in for sundaes. When we walked through the door we were transported back 60 years in time replete with sparkly booths and doo wop music. We enjoyed excellent service, yummy Umpqua ice cream topped with hot fudge, whip cream and nuts. A perfect spot for an old fashioned dessert. We'll be back to try the banana split! read more

Super great! They buy their meat from a farm about 15 miles away, buy most their produce from the fruit stand across the street and have kept all the charm that this place probably started with. Need to be a bit patient with the staff though, this is a diet job for most of them! read more

YUM! Very old school feel and we absolutely love it! Been twice, first time for burgers, fries, and ice cream, tonight as our second time just for ice cream. We had a bad dining experience for dinner elsewhere and came here to at least end the night off well with some yummy scoops! Everything tastes homemade and just, well, good! I wish the menu items were inclusive and you didn't have to pay for add ons like cheese and fries came with the burger though. Only critique. I'd rather pay the larger total for the meal then but everything individually and see it add up. Still fantastic though and we'll be back! read more

Best burgers and ice cream in town! Definitely recommend the BBQ Onion burger! Great atmosphere and people! The music is awesome as well.
