We dined at Jeffreys last evening for the first time and it was one of the top 3 meals we can ever remember. Absolutely everything was perfect from start to finish, they "get it". Out server was Mcvay and he is exactly what you want at this level of dining. Professional, knowledgeable, and witty without being intrusive. We started with a martini and old fashioned from the beverage cart followed by the foie gras with a bottle of sancerre. We then shared a Caesar salad that was perfectly dressed and crispy. We both selected steak for dinner, 12 oz filet and bone-in dry aged new York strip. The strip arrived already cut off the bone and sliced which I wasn't expecting and it was a great presentation. One of the highlights of the entree was the sauce bearnaise. We are overly critical of bearnaise and are always left disappointed, but Jeffrey's sauce is on point! We ended with the chocolate soufflé and three selections from the cheese cart to finish with our Cabernet. I had the roasted heirloom beets + strawberries with goat cheese and candied cashews followed by the petite filet + mushrooms before finishing off with the chocolate souffle. Steak was cooked perfectly, but came solo on the plate (ugly presentation...at least drop a handful of greens with vinaigrette or something on there) Five stars for the spectacular service. Arrived for a special Birthday dinner with my husband. Service was prompt and attentive at first and then became rushed. When at a fine dining establishment, we take our time through courses and like to enjoy a cocktail, appetizer, salad etc. prior to having an entree shoved in front of us as to "flip" a table. That was our pet peeve at Jeffrey's. On the plus side, the ambiance is inviting, low light. enables conversation etc. Food is good but not of a Michelin star quality in any way (just to set a bar). Would we return? Yes but most likely would do the bar area and reserve a fine dining experience for something more Chef and Service Driven. read more

We chose Jeffrey's for our anniversary based on Johnny (long time waiter) and our past experience. The ambiance was great, staff friendly however I was a bit disappointed with my filet. The cut of meat was subpar and fatty. Really nothing else special to add. My wife was happy with her fish entree. Probably won't be back anytime soon based on the price and poor quality meat. This is a mixed bag of a review from Monday night when we went to Jeffrey's for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. Our servers were stellar, the drinks were delicious and lots of the food was impressive. Dinner kind of fell apart around dessert, though, and while we don't mind making it rain for special occasions, it just didn't feel like the value was there. The restaurant was pretty dead for a Monday night (even during SX) so we got sat at a cozy table in the back and were given complimentary champagne and they even had a card for us. Nice touches. We started with the chicories salad and the tortellini. The salad was fine, nothing memorable to it. The tortellini were *slightly* undercooked, by like a minute, and we loved the truffles, but they also sadly drowned out the sunchoke. Jeffrey's give each table popovers, and ours were nice and crispy on the outside, but the insides were doughy and raw (more on this later). For dinner we shared the dry aged ribeye with sides of brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. This was the best part of the meal--the meat was truly perfect and certainly one of the best steaks that we've ever had. Sides were good too. Dessert. Yikes. We got the baked alaska and the lemon souffle. The staff seemed a little befuddled about the baked alaska, initially saying that the sour cherry was whipped with the meringue (but actually ended up being a sorbet in the center). The flavor combinations were nice, but why on Earth are you calling the chocolate a semifreddo when it was anything but? Either make an actual semifreddo (emphasis on the semi!) or call it ice cream--it should not have been as hard as a rock. And for god's sake, freeze the meringue before you set it on fire. The souffle was just offensive on all fronts--it looked gorgeous, but when cracked in, it became a curdled mess and one bite tasted entirely of scrambled egg. Gross. It seems like something is up with the ovens in the kitchen because the popovers had the same problem. Anyway, after chatting about it with our servers, they ended up taking the desserts off the bill, which was unnecessary, but classy of them. The manager even came over (again, unnecessarily), but a kind gesture. So, overall, a decent meal that didn't end on the best note. Our bill came to the mid-$300s, which is about what we spent on Uchiko last year for our anniversary, but we left that restaurant floating on air and didn't bat an eyelash. Sadly, not the same could be said of Jeffrey's, and while we appreciate the excellent service we received, we probably won't be back again. read more

It's the real deal -- REAL FOOD prepared authentically. Real ingredients from real farmers... no corn syrup nor soy lecithin nor factory-farmed food nor any other junk. This is a genuine, high-quality, 5-star, upscale food experience. Perfect for a date night!! Tonight, I had the 14 oz. ribeye steak, plus their amazing creamed spinach (unlike any creamed spinach you have ever had before), plus a garlic bulb with bone marrow & butter melted in it, and an unbelievable wedge salad -- half a head of lettuce covered in the most delicious buttermilk cheese dressing you've ever tasted. The staff and management is extremely friendly and attentive and accommodating! Also, a few hot tips: - Sunday nights is half-off all bottles of wine! - Also, there is an additional food menu that you can only get by dining in the bar area. - They leave half the bar area open for first-come, first-served customers. So you can walk in and hopefully get a seat in the bar area if you don't already have a reservation in the dining room. Fantastic experience, all the way around. read more

Everything about this place was amazing. The food was awesome. We got the bone in aged rib eye steak, creamed spinach, mushrooms, brussel sprouts, deviled eggs, and bread with ricotta cheese. Everything was delicious and customer service was on point. They also gave my bf a pie like dessert torched in flames for his birthday. My bf said this was the best steak he's ever had. Excellent service, excellent food. Our waiter, Kevin, was friendly, and attentive. The centercut tenderloin filet melts in your mouth and the shellfish risotto was good as well. My only mild dissapointment was corn in the shellfish risotto and it wasn't as creamy as I'm accustomed to. I'm not a big corn in a dish fan. I'd prefer it separate and not mixed in with anything. But overall it was great. Definitely will come back....but only on a special occasion! :) read more

Where do I begin? My husband and I drove in from Houston for my birthday dinner at Jeffrey's. I expected a lot and got only pure disappointment!! The first sign of trouble was seeing the hostesses run around like lost chickens. We got seated at our confirmed time of 8 pm. We ordered our drinks then waited for someone to come around to take our order for appetizers. We ordered those , then waited more for the orders to come. After eating our appetizers we had to wave someone down to take our order. After a good 45 minutes after ordering, my husband finally waved someone down to ask what was taking so long. The waiter said he would check . To make an extreme long story , short..... the food was bad and cold . It took 45 mins to get our food after ordering. My fish had no flavor. My husband's steak was raw and we didn't want to send our food back because we were afraid it would take another 45 minutes to get it corrected. . I would never come back here nor would I recommend this place to anyone. Needless to say after 2 1/2 hours , we were leaving a bad experience and went to eat pizza. read more

My husband and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary in Austin, TX this year and Jeffery's was our first stop. Let me tell you, we could have gone all the way back to California after this meal because they NAILED IT!!! We were greeted by a happy host who took us to our special table, set up with a sweet card wishing us a happy anniversary. Upon getting settled in we were given a complementary glass of champagne to celebrate. Yes, please! My hubs was starving so he immediately ordered the crab and avocado toast which was perfection with that little bit of char on the toast! (Starting to salivate) He also wolfed down the table walnuts so I only got to try one, but they were delish! Our waitress, a sweet blonde with our first Texas accent we heard on the trip, was incredibly accommodating and bubbly. She even gave us a little card with recommendations for the rest of our trip! So sweet. We went for the Caesar salad, 42 oz. porterhouse (med. rare), and the fries. First came the caesar in cute wooden bowls. (LOVE) There were extra crunchies, grilled kale, and an abundance of cheese that all added up to the most perfect caesar. Then they killed me with the most perfect popovers you will ever have in your life. I mean, they were so hot and doughy, it was stupid. I TRIED SO HARD not to ruin my steak with those. Then it was time for the main event... The porterhouse. It was the most perfect sight I've ever seen. Our first bites took us to another planet. I wanted to hold the steak in my mouth forever because the flavor was so out of this world, but it started to melt in my mouth. My husband almost cried and wanted to savor every bite. (He never, ever savors his food. "Food is meant to be in my stomach.") Not this steak though. Jeffery's forever ruined us. Major disappointment! We've been to most fine dining restaurants throughout the city and noticed the positive write ups that this restaurant has received though different publications. So we decided to try it. After making a reservation for two, we walked in and noticed that the intimacy of the restaurant and the table they had set up for us in a hall way that was so tight that it literally created a log jam! As patrons and servers walked by. My chair was kicked around 6 times, which was very distracting! We could also clearly hear the surrounding tables conversations. I'm guessing this restaurant is about 30% more expensive than other fine dining restaurants in Austin, which I find to not be worth it at all. The crab appetizer had large shells in it. The lobster bisque was excellent! The snappers presentation was ridiculous and hard to eat, due to it being in a paper bag. The snapper had no flavor. The seafood risotto had a weird flavor to it and the seafood was chewy. The wait staff was nice and young but not seasoned. The way the presented themselves we were confused as to who our actual wait person was. Jeffrey's is a name of 'old' Austin and I would never recommend it to anyone new to Austin! read more

Arrived, we had reservations for a group of 6, the other 4 hadn't arrived yet so we (2 of us) walked to bar to get a drink and they were so rude. We walked up to bar and within 2 minutes we had two people descend on us and tell us to go In The hallway to have a drink by the front door. We were never given a chance to look at a menu let alone place a drink order. We were shocked at the rudeness after having gone to this place for the last 9 years. The food was fine, but after that initial drink/bar experience we just had a bad taste in our mouth overall. Very disappointing. read more

I had a lovely dining experience as part of a work dinner booked in their private back room, so am not reviewing for the main dining service. The whole experience was wonderful. Very classy yet comfortable, relaxed pace, made for a fun social experience within a working meal. Jeffrey's is definitely a well-to-do type of joint so I wouldn't make the mistake of wandering in wearing a t-shirt and shorts. Complimentary valet parking is a blessing. The private room in the back is cozy and perfect for 6 people. It can get a little loud if everyone is talking (and the wine is flowing). Rubs shoulders with the wine cellar and makes for a great ambiance. The service was stellar, if not a bit slow. For drinks, appetizers, entrees and dessert the experience ran about 3.5-4 hours. Food was great though I don't know if it justifies the VERY high prices. My lamb chops were maybe (MAYBE) 6oz and $40+. I don't mind expensive food as long as it blows me away and I wouldn't say Jeffrey's hit that mark. read more

Jefferies dining room has been full the last few times I have attempted to dine. However tonight was my night. I got sat at a nice table surrounded by other nice tables the guests were mostly dressed semi formal. I was by far the worst dressed person in this evening. However the staff paid no mention to this and served me like I was their favorite guest. So being that it was my first time dining here we wanted to try it all. They provided some spiced nuts that were covered in a sweet and spicy drive rub. Yum They brought free popovers which were amazing. Damn Amaz Balls. I mean cover them in the house honey butter and stick a knife in me because I was done at that point. We ordered bacon wrapped figs which were called devil rides something... I forget. Pretty good but wish their were more to snack on. Had a wonderful spinach salad and my entree was NY strip with Brussel sprouts and mushrooms. I consider this place a must visit again. This is my favorite place to get a really good steak. You can definitely tell that everyone who works here takes pride in their job. Have had some stuff I wouldn't normally order (eggplant &banana pepper salad most recently) and was very pleasantly surprised. The one area I was underwhelmed in is desserts. Very fresh ingredients but just lacking a wow factor. Nice adult beverage selections (gratis The Macallan 12yo is always welcome). Went in this afternoon as a pre-anniversary celebration with my wife to check out the happy hour menu. We started with king crab & avocado toast, which was light, delicate and quite flavorful. Next for me came the warm spinach, dandelion & arugula. The sherry bacon vinaigrette in this dish is... I don't have the word for it. Insanely delicious. I also had the burger which wasn't too big and definitely not too small. Really, really good. Those steak fries are the biggest I've ever seen. Couldn't finish. We were in Austin for RTX 2016 and I wanted to sample some of the local fare as well as have a nice belated birthday dinner. Jeffrey's was one of the first menu's I ran across and made a reservation for; they answered my dietary concerns quickly and told me to just ask the waitress about vegetarian options. Drinks? Amazing. We had blackberry somethings in glasses that looked like my grandma would have owned from the 50's, but that was part of the whole decor. Gold, cream, dark blues, greens and dark wood everywhere. Absolutely lovely inside, like an old upscale hunting lodge. He had the steak, medium and it came with some 'taters. From what I was told he found a new religion in how soft and flavorful it was. I had the locally grown (no, seriously, they have their own garden out back!) sweet corn risotto with grilled shishito peppers they had plucked that day. I've never had either and I couldn't believe how great a sweet corn risotto could even be! If we're ever in Austin again, we'll be back. read more

My boyfriend booked a reservation here last night for my birthday. Visit started out a little rough, as the valet staff was pretty rude and we actually stood in front of him for a few minutes before he even bothered to lift his head and ask if we needed any help. A bit ridiculous. Once we walked inside the restaurant there was no one at the hostess stand. We stood around awkwardly for a couple minutes before someone approached us to be seated. Once inside the vibe was lovely. It was dark and cozy and our table even had a little "happy birthday" card for me. Cute. Our waiter was excellent; very friendly and helpful. The food was hit or miss. We started with deviled eggs (delicious) and lobster bisque (I thought it was tasty, my boyfriend found it bland). Following, we ordered a center cut tenderloin filet of wagyu beef, which was, thankfully, also delicious, tender, and super flavorful. Unfortunately the sides we ordered were a complete let down. We ordered 3 sides of different veggies, totaling between $30-40, and they were hardly edible. The brussels sprouts were chewy on the outside and hard on the inside. I don't even know how that's possible, but they were hardly edible. We also ordered mushrooms with white wine and demi glace; they had absolutely no flavor. They tasted like steamed mushrooms with a bit of white wine thrown in. Massively disappointing. Finally we ordered the broccolini, which had so much oak smoke we couldn't even taste the vegetable. Overall we were disappointed. We should have said something while we were there but my boyfriend didn't want to make an issue at my birthday dinner. Our server Maggie was more than amazing and I would only want to gave her next time. I told her I was gluten free and when the table ordered avacado toast, I just assumed I wouldn't eat any which I'm totally used to. She brought me one on lettuce so I could enjoy it to. It was just so thoughtful and nice that I could enjoy with my friends. Half off food and $2 off drinks made our bill affordable for a high end place. Definitely get the bar steak. After 4 years of coming to Austin for business we finally tried Jeffery's restaurant. We were completely and utterly disappointed not only in the quality of food but also in the total lack of service. How that meal was 400 dollars one will never know. We don't mind paying top dollar for fabulous food and service, sadly neither were present May the 4th (be w you) 2018. The only person who asked us how the meal was was the valet, who received a very generous tip. We travel on a regular basis and eat at some amazing places. None of our friends nor family who live here have ever been to Jeffrey's. Lesson learned! DO NOT eat here. You will be disappointed more than Pagliacci. read more

One of the best meals my wife and I have had anywhere. Service was impeccable, food was delicious, and the presentation was beautiful. What more can you ask? The staff went above and beyond helping us celebrate our anniversary. There was a note card on our table recognizing the occasion and every staff person we spoke to wished us a Happy Anniversary. They also started us off we a complimentary glass of champagne. We had the Burrata & Strawberries appetizer followed by the Shellfish Risotto and Pan Roasted Niman Ranch Pork Chop entrees with a side of Heirloom Tomatoes. Their happy hour is such a good deal because all bar foods are half off! So I went with a couple friends and orders about 8 dishes. They were super accommodating with us and even Pres plot dishes so it was easier for us to share. The wagyu burger is amazing as well as the baked Alaska..those ere definitely my favorite but everything else from the deviled eggs to Bolognese were great too! They're uniforms were really fun as well.. kinda reminded me of pajamas in an old persons house but it definitely fit the atmosphere read more
