We were driving up to our house in Connecticut one afternoon and we weren't too hungry but wanted some nice coffee and maybe a pastry, so I opened up the Yelp app and saw that Jean-Jacques was right on our way in Pleasantville. We hopped off the Saw Mill Parkway and made our way here. There is a private parking lot for the restaurant, which is very nice. It was a sunny day and they had the front patio open for dining, but we sat inside. Once inside, the sight of all the delicious food made me hungry so I ordered a cheesesteak panini and fries. My husband got a jajik sandwich and a chocolate tart. My sandwich was delicious and filling and the fries were very good. I had some of the chocolate tart also and that was really good. Soooo chocolatey. Lamentably, I forgot to take pictures of my food. I was so hungry and it looked so good I scarfed it down and only as I was wiping the crumbs out of my mustache did I realize I didn't get any photos. I guess I'm a bad Yelper. Oh well, that means I have to go back so I can take photos of my grub next time. And I do hope to go back. If you're in Pleasantville, you should stop by here. It's also very close to the train station if you're coming through on Metro North. The folks who work here are super nice as well. read more

The restaurant is a quieter room next to the Jean Jacques cafe. This is the first time we ate in the dining room. It is insists and well laid out, with the bar and TV. The menu is not extensive, but attention is paid to making the food excellent. The waiter laid out some incredible garlic bread. I could have had it for a main course and dessert. I've been to Jean Jacques for some private parties and it's always been a great experience. They have a private room that is always very well decorated and their staff are awesome! Their quiche is probably my favorite dish, the flavors are phenomenal. On the dessert side, their chocolate mousse cake is what I dream about often. It is delightfully airy and also gluten free! They also have a more casual dining area with tables where you order at the counter. The only downside is the parking lot fills up quickly so you often need to find street parking. read more

Recently came here after work and it was a nice spot to end the day. I'm a big fan of a breakfast all day menu/cooking breakfast for dinner at home so this spot was right up my alley. While you order at the counter here there is plenty of seating if you want to dine in and they will bring your meal to you. We ordered the Florentine omelette and the ham and Brie panini. We recently had my Mom's 100th birthday in their private room. The room was beautifully decorated, the food was excellent. Everyone was very happy with the buffet. The service was amazing. The staff was extremely helpful, they always came around to make sure they removed the plates after you finished. They also made sure everything was OK. Will try a chocolate or cake based dessert next time to see if it's any better. Kids loved the heart shaped sugar cookies, though. Also want to see if this place has good mocha frappes to replace my old go-to option. Will give it a second chance next time. This was our first time pre ordering catered meals from Jean-Jacques. We selected 4 Passover meals as well as extra desserts, hosting some vegetarians and some meat eaters. WOW. The grilled salmon, braised brisket of beef, potato Kugel, and Vegetarian stuffed cabbage were wonderfully prepared and delicious. Their Croque monsieur Sandwich is just a simple piece of bread, with ham, cheese, tomato and some bechamel. Those are the regular ingredients, how you make it makes the difference. The cheese was not melted, the bread was not the right one which is supposed to be sliced white bread, the ham was good, the tomatoes were cold and the bechamel lacked flavor. I can make that at home. I am posting two pictures: one shows how a Croque Monsieur should look and the other is the one I got. I understand they may have their own version, slightly different but this one is not even close to what a Croque Monsieur should look/taste like. Jean Jacques catered my wedding many summers ago. The food was fine - steak, good; salad, wilted; Mary was the catering director at the time and she was a great facilitator. Reading the comments section of a recent Wirecutter review on wedding guest dresses in which some commenters were AGHAST some of the featured dresses were white triggered a memory that Donna - now JJCC catering director and Mary's daughter who was assisting at the time - showed up to the wedding wearing a white lace mini sheath dress. Attention seeking or microaggressive? (I'm a POC). Hard to know. I didn't say anything at the time bc I was having a raucous time celebrating, and this was long ago, but I still remember this years later. Otherwise everything else was great! 5 stars. Holy delicious desserts! We tried three different desserts while we were here and each was excellent. All three of them were gluten free and all of them were decadent and delicious. Yikes...adult supervision required! This cafe/bakery has totally lost it! I don't know if this is a result of Covid or what, but I don't think there's really any excuse for the poor food and service I received. Ordered the jajik wrap -- basically yogurt dip, vegetables, and sprouts. How could you mess that up? The kitchen staff were clearly confused or exceptionally tired (or maybe both). They moped around, eventually slapping together my wrap which was drenched in liquid. This "yogurt dip" was a bland, cold swamp. Also, no sprouts! Basically just cafeteria-style shredded lettuce & tomato stuffed in a very chewy tortilla that eventually became all soggy and borderline gross. Very disappointed, especially because this place is far from cheap. Also got a red velvet cupcake that was obviously stale and lacked the classic red velvet taste. Hopefully this place recovers. I went to the store to order a cake for my son's birthday.He chose a picture cake topper what I want to put in the cake. I am afraid of not putting on the cake right and I'll ruin the birthday cake. I expressed this in the store when I ordered the cake. I paid $65 for the cake what had no decoration (as it would have normally) other than a thin red frosting around the image what comes on top of the cake. I wouldn't mind having a thicker frosting line as I showed the person who took my order. I had to pay in advance. I just picked up the cake and the person who actually knows about cakes told me that they didn't put the topping on the cake because it will suck in by tomorrow. I'll have to do it myself. On top of it the girl who took out the topping image dropped it on the floor. So, after I place the topping in the cake myself (what I want to avoid and this was the specific reason why I ordered the cake at the begin with) I'll eat this topping what was dropped on the floor in front of me. I don't even want to think about where else was it dropped since Saturday when I placed my order and left the image topper with the person who took my order. I feel ripped off. I could have buy a cake in the grocery store and place the image on top of that chocolate cake. This exercise cost me ca. $100 what I could have done out of $40. The girls at the counter have no idea about bakery and I am under the impression that they are just going for my money. No wonder they invested in the past few years in an outdoor patio and renovated (got rid of the beautiful checkerboard floor replaced with the cheapest vinyl floor) the side room. I've been going to this place for 20+ years. It's time to look for another spot where they actually care about customers. read more

I came on a Sunday to grab one of their beautiful cakes, but ended up getting one of their specialty chocolate almond croissant that's only available on the weekends. The croissant was dense, stale, and burnt at the ends. I love a good chocolate or almond croissant, so this one was very very disappointing. As for service, they're very friendly! Ambiance is fine, it's your average local cafe with a French theme. I won't be going out of my way to come again unless it's for a quick breakfast when I'm already in the area. read more

Cute and cozy spot in pleasantville. Large menu. Lots eggs. I ordered an egg white and cheddar omelette and received an egg white omelette. It was great and I didnt say anything to the staff about the lack of cheese. Came with fresh rye bread. Loved the assorment of condiments (hot sauce, mustard, ketchup, etc.) available at a serve-yourself centrally located table. Nice quiet place to meet a friend and have a chat. This is a long time in coming. We have been coming to Jean-Jacques for years as a family. I have dined in for brunch frequently. The brioche and pastries are always a lovely way to finish the meal. The quiche is my husband's favorite. We have also had sandwich and pastry platters for several family events including Mother's Day. They are ALWAYS a big hit. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure that you get top quality service. There was a miscommunication on Mother's day when our quiches didn't show up when we picked up the order. The manager sent a driver with a replacement quiche to make sure we could still have the celebration we planned. The next day the manager that took my order called to apologize. It's so nice we have such a high caliber of service, quality, and convenience so close by. Looking forward to the next event I can splurge on one of their delicious cakes. Jean-Jacques is a small place located right in the heart of the Pleasantville that serves breakfast and pastries. I was really interested because of the crepes and that's what I am going to focus on. There is a lot of competition in the area so making your crepe unique and fresh is key and much to my disappointment this place falls short. The crepes are pre-made which is basically inexcusable and the chef has a hot hand with the microwave to heat the crepe (I witnessed it firsthand) . The idea of going out to eat is to have a meal that's cooked fresh and with care but this doesn't seem to be how things are done here. My wife got an apple turnover, with coffee which was fairly good, but the crepe was lacking in all phases. They also seem to have a nice venue for parties that looked like something you might use for a birthday party or a wedding shower. Nice enough place but the business has to learn to make fresh food and keep away from the microwave! read more

I came close to getting a mozzarella and tomato with pesto sandwich, but went with the hamburger (classic me). It was just okay, but it's also a "french" place so like what was I thinking getting a hamburger? It was a little bit diner-y on the inside, which isn't bad! Just be prepared to order at the counter and then have your name called to pick up your order. I did purchase pastries but have not eaten them yet, so I can't speak to how good they are, however something that did strike me is how reasonably priced they all are. Most large cakes (unsure...maybe 7"? 8"? Couldn't eyeball it) were in the $24-27 range. I thought to myself that that would be a good deal, if I were in the market for a cake. We absolutely love Jean-Jacques Culinary Creations in Pleasantville! We try to stop in at least once a week even though it is not near our home. Cris, Lauren and Jack are so very sweet and always welcoming. The food at the grill is delicious and meticulously prepared by Wilder. The environment is warm and inviting but it is truly the caring team and quality of the food that make this place so special. It feels as if everything is prepared and presented with such care and never has anything we've tried been less than excellent. The bakery selection is outstanding. Not only does everything look like a work of art but it is delicious. In my opinion, it is rare to find that combination.
