This is a cute little coffee shop/gift shop/bookstore near the train station in Katonah and as others have said, it's quaint and adorable. I wanted to pick up a white elephant gift and get some birthday cards and was able to fulfill both objectives here. I also had a cooked and something to drink. It wasn't too crowded the day I was there but it's not a huge place. Prices are on the higher side, but what you'd expect at a quaint local shop. I wish I had a place like this in my neighborhood (in Danbury, not Manhattan) so I could stop by regularly. read more

A lovely book shop. Came here, while visiting the in-laws, and the place did not disappoint. I was looking for a book, THERE'S ALWAYS THIS YEAR, and since I was in the area, was hoping I could stop by and pick up a copy. I called ahead and the staff could not have been more helpful. Although the system said they had a copy, they couldn't find it. Well, these folks searched up and down till they did and then called me back. That's A+ customer service. When I stopped by the shop was adorable. I hadn't known they do coffee as well and so had to enjoy a latte while I was there. I didn't get a chance to go upstairs, but I heard it's quite nice and the space for author events. Would highly recommend getting your books here. This place is what all bookshops should aspire to be. read more

The perfect neighborhood bookstore - and so much more. A downtown Katonah gem, Katonah Reading Room has something for everyone, and is a must-visit on weekend mornings. Their coffee is perhaps some of the best (if not THE best) in Northern Westchester, and the baked goods are a true delight. I had a scone recently that I can only describe as the perfect cross-breed between a traditional scone and a biscuit - it was crumbly but in a good way, sweet but not too sweet, and tasted so fresh. I can't stop myself from buying at least two books on each visit, too (one for me, one for my son). The owner is truly amazing, too. Always has great recommendations and during the pandemic, was incredibly resourceful at keeping her business going while being a real utility to the community. Katonah should consider itself lucky to have such an institution. read more

The Katonah Reading Room is one of the most magical places in all of Katonah. The space is quiet, serene, and lovely, and it's a special treat to go inside and watch the people perusing books and the kids get excited for the children's toys, markers, colored pencils, etc. It's a wonderful combination of delicious delicacies from those you can eat to those you can drink to those you can read and create with. The outside deck is one of the only places in Katonah where you can sit and relax with your coffee and book in hand and have a moment to enjoy the town, overlooking their gorgeous and well-tended garden. read more

This little place is a gem! Excellent coffee and pastries (try the banana Nutella loaf, or the lemon cranberry scone!). It also has wonderful ambience, with outside seating on a nice porch as well as a relaxing upstairs seating are with comfortable nooks, eclectic wall art and relaxing music. And, finally, in addition to a nice but limited book selection, it has a FANTASTIC art supply area that specializes in watercolor painting with a great selection of beginner and artists quality materials. I'm so glad I had to make a detour from Katonah Reading Room's sister store, Little Joe's Bookstore Cafe, down the street for the bathroom, because otherwise, I might not have found this awesome hidden gem! Located just off the main business district drag, the Katonah Reading Room is a cute little cafe / book / gift shop that's a must visit if you're in town. Not only do they have an amazing selection of salads, sandwiches, coffee, and teas for the hungry bibliophile, but they also have the largest selection of food books I've ever seen at an independent bookseller! I was very impressed! The food is also to die for. I got the Banh Mi Salad with grilled chicken, and adored every bite, so much so that I forgot to take a picture of it! It was the perfect balance of flavors - spice from the pickled jalapeño and sriracha mayo, freshness from the pickled veggies and cilantro, and creaminess from the house made yogurt cilantro dressing. YUM. It was worth every penny (and a lot of pennies went into making this salad!). That was my one thing - the Katonah Reading Room's food and beverage prices aren't cheap, so don't expect to get any major price steals here. However, the food is all made fresh to order with hyperlocal ingredients whenever possible (check out the list of their farm partners and purveyors when waiting in line!), so that's probably why you'll be shelling out some serious dough. The vibe is lively and convivial, with a young and hip staff and friendly service. Be forewarned - they don't allow laptops between 11 and 2:30 PM, and instead encourage people to read and socialize. This is great, but definitely something to consider if you're a person who likes to work from a coffee shop on your computer. Even though I was a little miffed by paying $22 for a small iced tea and a salad, I'll be back next time we're here. That salad was so worth it! read more

I came here around lunch time. This spot is super cute. The outside is a nice old building. Inside, they have books (smaller selection, but it's a local bookstore), arts supplies, and a small coffee shop. They have quite a bit of seats by upstairs, and you can tell a lot of thought went into the decor. read more

We were in the area, chilly, and looking for some hot cocoa! Since people like the Reading Room, we popped in for some cocoa to go. It was a cute place with some nice items and good looking chocolates. We split a giant cocoa. Prices were a little high, but not surprising for the area. Service was fine, but not super attentive. Gosh, I hate coming in here with my toddler because all of the toys are at his eye level and he hasn't quite grasped the concept that not everything is his toy (whether or not it's purchased already). But I force myself to come in here at least once a week, ideally with someone who can stand outside with my tot. Why? Because of their affogato and soft serve! The affogato here is such a treat on warm days or if I just need an afternoon pick-me-up. The folks working here are super sweet about serving the tiniest little soft serve helping for my little guy. In all honesty, the coffee here isn't my favorite and I'm not crazy about their prepared foods or pastry selection either but none of that keeps me from coming back. I's great that you can get books ordered here if they don't have it on their shelves and it typically comes in within one or two days. The Katonah Reading Room is truly a neighborhood gem. read more

I found many titles i didn't have. The food selection was limited but sounded delicious. I often have to decide whether my Aunt can eat the menu items. She wasn't interested. The store is carefully arranged and cozy. It is well organized and a quiet place to read. There is not much seating inside but there is a little outdoor seating. I was in town for business and found this great little place! They have breakfast and lunch food options and great coffee selections. I loved that they have gluten free bread for breakfast/lunch sandwiches but they also had a great selection of salads. They had lots of snacks/drinks/cheeses/small grocery-type items for purchase that weren't typical grocery store items. The atmosphere was so cozy and home-y. This cute spot hiding off of the main street of Downtown Katonah has very good salads. I ordered the Dark Kale Salad with the Yogurt Cilantro Dressing and it was surprisingly filling. The salads have great texture and flavor - it's hard to make a salad that doesn't suck! This place is also fairly environmentally friendly. They have kombucha on tap which you can fill with their reusable glass bottles and I love that most of their beverages are sold in glass bottles rather than plastic. This place is adorable and the food is great. I ate there yesterday on the porch- it was a perfect day (added to the experience!). I had a cold brew and their scrambled eggs on toast with chives. I must say, I'm glad I gave Katonah Reading Room another try, because the second time around I had an extremely pleasant experience here. On a quiet Sunday afternoon, we decided to head to Katonah Reading Room for a light lunch. My dad and I both got toasts (my dad the tuna niçoise and me the salmon), and my stepmom got the farm salad with the lemon tahini dressing. Unlike last time, the staff was extremely friendly this time around and was helpful when it came to deciding what to order. As for the food, everything was fresh and refreshing, especially the homemade lemon tahini dressing. I'm glad I gave Katonah Reading Room another try, because the food is delicious and the prices are actually much more reasonable now (just $6 for avocado toast!). People complaining it's overpriced.. The prices reflect the high quality of ingredients of all things made and sold here.. I used to love this place before they moved locations. Their coffee is great and the store itself is super cute. I went in today and the item that I wanted wasn't available so the worker asked me if I'd like a corn chowder. I said sure and when I went to pay, the cost was $21 for the small soup, a small cappuccino, and a small tea. I called back to make sure that this price was right and they said they may have overcharged by a dollar, but that the soup is $9 on its own. I went home and ate my corn chowder, which ended up just being corn suspended in a cream with nothing else. I'm disappointed in the experience I had today. read more
